The goal: mimic the brushstrokes
Found a pic on a college website that showed the paint and brushstrokes well. There were a lot of colors of paint in those strokes. So my brain was like ok, build up the colors of the paint too. And then later my brain was like what were you thinking building up all that thread. And then when today after the fourth additional color, my brain was like you gotta stop now or you never will. Then when I pulled it off the frame and stepped back, my brain (with a headache today) says see, told you.
Now to take something to make it stop hurting, and then bind and deliver…

latest block is complete! I would like to have a few words with whoever did this pattern, but it's worked out!

Starting today, my quilt will be on display at the local county fair! This project took about two years to complete. The quilt top is entirely hand sewn using the English Paper Piecing technique, where cut-to-shape paper pieces are used to stabilize the shape of the fabric. A ladder stitch is used to join fabric pieces at the edges before the paper is removed. The individual fabrics are mostly vintage sourced and some of the solid colors are hand-dyed by me. The quilt overall measures 36″ x 56″

A birthday gift for a non-Tumblr friend - foundation paper pieced chickadees at the feeder!
These pieces are so tiny, this is why FPP works so well at teensy tiny details and angles. All fabrics from stash, and I love the tree-bark print as a frame. The birds' eyes are French knots.

First time laying out my scrappy patchwork using left over scraps given to me, and parts of jelly rolls and fat quarters. Could be a few more years in the making! Pattern will definitely change as it grows.

clocking in just shy of 75 hours, the quilt top is done!! I'll be heading to the store tomorrow after work to get the batting and backing fabric so I can start trying my hand at tying this thing together, but for now I am simply basking in the glory of getting the design completed
and now it's bedtime

Just finished quilting this kitty, sewed it to the jacket and couched a bunch of yarn all around it... to pick it up to give to my kiddo... only to realize I put it on (my) adult size jacket!! DOH! At least she'll be wearing it a LOT longer that originally planned (kids size 8 vs large adult jacket)

So I had an original plan to put these mini hexagons on 3" x 4" coin pouches BUT I think I'm just going to make a mini quilt instead with this fuchsia fabric as a background because I only have tiny amounts of each fabric. I MIGHT make one hexagon coin pouch for myself to test out if I actually enjoy the process enough to continue making them. A lot of people upcycle old quilts for making bags/pouches and I can see that as being creatively sustainable, but doing the actual piecing and quilting IN ADDITION to the sewing into a functional object is exponentially more labor-intensive. I definitely need to dip my toes into that whole endeavor by starting small

I love doing these english paper pieced hexagons. These are using mostly Rachel Hauer’s Birds of a Feather collection through free spirit fabrics.
