Will blinked a couple times at Leo's question before an easy smile drifted onto his lips. "You can pick, whichever you want to start with," he offered, because although Will was ostensibly trying to make sure Leo had indeed fully recovered from dying and then resurrecting again, now he was pretty sure he needed to be a bit more thorough with his exam.

Which, come to think about it, Will didn't think Leo had ever actually come to see him before. Not for a check-up anyway. Sure, there was the occasional scrap he'd helped to fix during a Capture the Flag here or explosion in the Hephaestus cabin there, but of all the campers that had come to see Will, Leo wasn't really one of them. It almost reminded Will of Nico in a way--the both of them almost dedicated to not taking care of themselves.

Nodding slightly, he filed the thought away to think about more later. "Yeah, that's an improvement. And no new headaches?" he checked curiously. As long as things slowly improved and the initial injury wasn't too bad, concussions weren't too hard to recover from. That was as long as a second concussion didn't happen. "You've been wearing your head protection, right?"

I like the idea of each of my three AU/fanfic ideas having a slightly different Narinder, slightly different Lamb(?)

or at least I hope they're distinct enough, Depression Quest and Courtship Lamb may be similar, but it doesn't make sense for moody trainwreck Courtship!Narinder to swap with dumbass trainwreck Restart!Narinder. Maybe he could switch with Restart!TOWW lmao

I'm gonna write some notes - which might change - on the pair/story for each AU because god knows if/when I'll actually write Depression Quest or Restart, at least we have some shitty doodles right

spoilers ahead for my Depression Quest AU/fic/whatever it is if spoilers for a nonexistent work matter to youwu. I'll blob a hopefully readable version of what story beats I had and link the two posts whenever it happens

ALSO CONTENT/TRIGGER WARNING SI/HI/THOUGHTS+ACTIONS OF HARMING SELF AND OTHERS/DEPRESSION

Depression Quest:

Lamb (she/they, mostly they)

poor babby beat down by the world and killed by the Bishops

gets the Red Crown and starts mowing them down with glee

they're a good leader, they're saving the Lands of the Old Faith from the Bishops, the Cult loves them

and it looks like The One Who Waits is as just as shitty as the others, can't have that, they are way better than he could ever be

so maybe they get a little too power happy and go a little too hard on the whole heroic leader thing

when he is conquered, TOWW is seen as nothing more than a trophy, a piece of property just like the Crowns surrounding his house

they act merciful, but Narinder knows it's just to make him submit, knows that they're just as power-hungry as he was

they let him run away because they'll always know where he is, and they want to see what happens/how long it takes before he crawls back to them

Narinder

finally gets revengeance on his family who threw him in jail, gets released from his prison just to get beat up and thrown into a gilded cage

he is depressed. he is angry. he has nothing left

I'm talking SI/HI, self-harm, screaming and breaking things, pushing Baal and Aym away, and crying on the floor breakdown shit

resists for a long time but eventually starts integrating into the Cult, only to get betrayed by a jealous follower

Narinder has a breakdown because he was stupid enough to think things would be better, so he runs away from the Cult

he encounters Ratoo and they bond over loss :'( but just like Ratoo, he never quite gets over things :(((((((

Ratoo might be the only person he'd call a friend/someone he trusts

addendum: narinder's third eye: he keeps it closed like in canon but technically he can open it, just really difficult and it fucking hurts to do it anyway

over time he gets a little strength to open it for short amounts of time but it still hurt

there's a few times when he gets angried or whatever when he accidentally attempts to open it and he goes OH FUCK OW and maybe it'll set his head straight

Depression Quest may have a bittersweet ending in which the Bishops return and were able to Get Over It™ in the Afterlife due to their actual support network, but I don't know tbh

I do know if they did return/if Narinder meets them again somehow, it'd just be like, sad, guarded, they'll reconcile but it's not the same kind of relationship deal

When I first came up with Depression Quest in September I was like, maybe Lamb is just protecting the baby and won't push him or anything because they love him and stuff

then as time passed I was like okay that's complete and utter bullshit and besides, Narinder is so consumed with his losses there is no way he could into a relationship in the near future. Sometimes people just can't move on :(

I also don't know how the Narinder/Ratoo friendshit even happened guys, it was just the idea of Narinder walking into Ratoo's heart pond and going "what the fuck are you doing" and things went from there

tu.lin has definitely tried using the whole sage business to self-aggrandise himself above things he doesn't want to do before ( not because he genuinely doesn't want to do them or anything. it just doesn't seem like a good use of his time as the sage of wind, y'know? he takes this job veeery seriously and is more responsible now, even if he only pulls this shit on the chores he is notoriously infamous for avoiding in the past — which is just a coincidence btw! he's grown past that, he swears!! ), but sa.ki and te.ba shut that down pretty quickly

like "oh, the sage of wind has no time to be a flockling who cleans out our aerie even though it was his agreed turn of the cycle? well, clearly he has no time to be a nestling who receives hugs from us either" and it gets tu.lin every time dlkfjkd

on serious reflection, though — beyond these instances and him running his beak off about his adventure with li.nk to his friends and the other villagers immediately after resolving the whole thing with colgera, once the novelty wears off, i don't think he actually sincerely says much about being a sage unprompted. it's not humility per se, he just doesn't see a point in addressing it if nobody asks ( and is more than happy to answer, otherwise ). in an ironic twist of events, he's got better things to do with his time than puff himself up over sagehood slfkjdf

it's due to a quiet sort of confidence, yeah, but also just...a nebulous understanding of his purpose as a sage. while he recognises his responsibilities as a flockmember and the eldest child of the elder ( which holds weight in terms of any impressions he makes of his family rather than any real emphasis on bloodlines ), he's still figuring out what being the sage of wind could mean for his people outside of being there for li.nk when he needs it/the whole of hyrule when it needs him — the full severity of which still kind of eludes him, honestly.

#* arrowhead / study.#* roosting / ooc.#LIKE....he understands how dire the situation is in hyrule rn and how he can and Must Help but it's more of a surface understanding #the same way he understood what being a flock is but didn't /GET/ the full extent of the support that entails pre-his mainline quest #(because he was so wrapped up in feeling like he was the only one who WANTED to get smth done and COULD get smth done #that the meaning of 'community' got watered down to 'people to provide for' rather than 'people who provide for each other')#he may headshot like nobody's business and vow to fight with you to the end but he's also only 13 #the biggest weight on his shoulders before awakening as a sage was scouting and hunting for his village (WITH THE HELP OF #SEVERAL ADULTS) and the biggest weight before this entire upheaval fiasco was mastering his gust technique in the relative peace of #a post-calamity hyrule....his 'to the end' is more out of a passionate desire to help than anything. not that he's any less sincere for it!#tldr; he's a kid! a very earnest one. but just a kid :')#* nesting / queue.#totk spoilers

im gonna be honest with you i was prepared for the first 50 hours to be a slog bc everyone says realm reborn is long and exhausting but tbh. the arr campaign itself got interesting halfway through. its the patch msq between arr & hw thats exhausting. the constant trials & dungeons forcing you to sit through queue times (levelled archer to lv10 & fisher to 20 and started botanist and so much other bullshit exclusively during queues in the past 2/3 days), the 5 different plotlines, what were they thinking

#yeah im invested in these characters but im so fucking lost dude #'yeah theres trouble in ishgard also the syllhs summoned their deity also the ascians also alphinaud has an army now also flames traitor-'#ONE AT A TIME #currently im at the crysallis dungeon & i quit for the day bc. dps queue times #ARR sucked at the start but that was 90% just meeting the characters & the world. i can cope with it being slow #70 hours in still getting massive exposition dumps??? youve lost me #and im SURE itll all make sense eventually but its just. so much #its like they had five different plot ideas for 2.x and decided to make the quests #put them on pieces of paper #put them in a bowl #shook the bowl #and then took them out one by one to decide the quest order #its so all over the place #and maybe it wasnt as bad for the people who played them as they were coming out. but im not one of them #idk #i liked ARR and im not gonna quit now (im relatively close to hw by now i think??? im getting there???) but STILL #ars0nism's ffxiv adventures #also just the constant queuew #yeah theres dungeons in the ARR story but you could do those with ai teammates. those ai teammates arent the best #but theyre ready before youve been fishing for an hour

i get the feeling that zos doesnt know how a majority of the player base runs group dungeons after the first few months of a new one coming out...

like when a new one comes out youve got the initial rush of people who wanna hear the story or learn the mechs or get the achievements before their friends. after that tho? a few months later it becomes just another dungeon up for pledges or you happen to wind up in it for your rnd. after the initial rush of dungeon fans passes over no one really gives a shit about it anymore and it becomes all about getting through it asap bc you just want your pledges and rnd xp

thats why i gotta ask why the everloving FUCK zos wants to put secrets and shit thats "off the beaten path" in fucking group dungeons of all places!! like 5 months after release no one gives a shit anymore and hiding kinda important things like mythic leads away from the main goal of the dungeon makes pulling my teeth out seem like a pleasant walk in the park. good fucking luck to anyone who even considers trying to convince the 3 random strangers they queued up with to waste their time just for their sake on a lead thats not even guaranteed to drop

we're dodging violence against Junpei today.

you know, i think clips are getting to be... about October? i have 600 in queue right now, it should be close. i kinda realized, this entire last year has been games that took place in Japan. Digimon Cyber Sleuth, World's End Club, Persona, i got into AI: The Somnium Files(i hope the next sale is soon!). i should probably also just play The World Ends With You, just to add another to the list, i got that on DS back in the days i was bad at prioritizing what to do in games. i saw the shrine in the background of this one, and it just kinda hit me how many of them were in Japan.

#⇢₊˚⊹ 🩷∥ruby∥yo，ide yo !!#and i'll have probably twice as many to add to the queue next time it runs out #i do like posts for the purpose of queuing them later #sometimes i'm just too lazy to queue stuff yk #like adding the tags and all that #anyway i'll just ramble about stuff under here #i hope that arnold (murderofbirds on youtube/twitch) has chongyun gameplay moments recorded at some point #hearing him admit that he wanted chongyun to be his main dps at first but then ended up not doing that made me :(#we seriously need more chongyun appreciation in this world #idk if he ever streamed character hangouts. or if he's uploaded the vods to youtube if he did #i don't want to sift through his channel to find out because i do enjoy his playthrough as-is. i kinda don't wanna spoil the experience by #finding out that he doesn't have any recorded content on chongyun at all and having much less motivation to keep watching his playthrough #it's hard for me to find good videos to watch over meals these days. and i'm not about to disqualify months' worth of genshin vods #i'm glad he reacted positively to xingqiu's story quest tho. especially after hating him as a playable unit (at first anyway)#people like him because he's meta but most people know jack about his character #i'm glad he can look past one aspect of a character he doesn't like and fully appreciate the other parts #can't say the same about myself with xiangling tho #idk she's just such a squick character for me. she annoys me to no end. i even stopped watching arnold's playthrough for a bit because of #how much he used xiangling and talking about how much he loves xiangling every two seconds #im glad he eventually benched her. and im also glad he didnt get to see her in wanmin restaurant like he was hoping to when he got to liyue #man i have very petty feelings towards xiangling lol #im still annoyed at my irl (ex-friend atp tbh) for going “nooo but she's so strong and metaaaa” when i told her about how much i dislike her #like fam. even if she did 1 mil damage with barely any investment i still wouldn't care. i don't like her. end of story #it's not like it's uncommon for people to hate bennett. and he's one of the most broken units in the game #(ironically i actually like bennett as a character)#(it's also why i insist on calling my main team chongqiunett instead of national variant. national implies xiangling is there)#i'm trying really hard not to go on a whole rant about everything i don't like about her #/sigh/ anyway.
