Rewatching Once Upon A Time for the first time since I was a kid (I watched it as it aired, I pretty much grew up as Henry did) and like as an adult I can now actually realize how fucking creepy Henry’s life must be. Time is STOPPED. Yes, there’s a day-night cycle, but we have no proof there are seasons. I don’t think we ever hear the date mentioned. People don’t age. He probably made friends when he was a little kid, and he aged and they didn’t. How horrifying must that be? His teachers probably teach the same lesson over and over again. The clock on the clocktower doesn’t work and no one has ever tried to fix it. From the Cinderella episode it’s implied that Cinderella has been pregnant since they left the Enchanted Forest—Henry must have seen her around! He must have seen this woman be pregnant his entire life and never give birth!

And then there’s also the fact that everyone is sad. Literally no one is happy with their lives. Everyone says things have been happening for “as long as I can remember.” And we see that he has access to media from outside Storybrooke (comics, books, tv) so he would also have picked up on the fact that everyone in Storybrooke talks fucking weird. No one in the real world brings up true love or darkness constantly. Regina threatens to “destroy” Emma. No one talks like that!! Henry has to have noticed!

Like no wonder this kid immediately latched onto the everyone was cursed concept. This whole experience must be traumatizing af, he would believe any explanation he came across

Regina talks a big game. But for all of her suspicions, right here? She is afraid.

She was so desperate for Rumplestiltskin's curse, she did not see the little...failsafes, little loopholes for Rumple to see. For instance, why he asked for Emma's name, because Emma's name--the Savior's presence in Storybrooke--would unlock his memories of the Enchanted Forest.

Or that little, "I want everything I want, as long as I say 'please'" which turned out to be a little curse trick that would FORCE Regina to comply, whenever he said 'please'. (Which should've been utilized more often actually...I suppose that broke when the curse broke, but still.)

But here in this moment, Rumplestiltskin reveals a few things.

He gave up his biggest trump card against Regina--his name, the knowledge of the curse she cast--just for a tiny PIECE of his memories with Belle. Regina has always known that Belle is important to him, but I don't think she understood HOW important, that what SHE thought was a clever move--kidnapping Belle for further use against Gold--actually seems to be her holding on to an atomic bomb ready to go off the moment Gold realizes he has her.

He is not SCARED to give up his name. It alters things a bit, he's annoyed, but he is not afraid to do it, the way she is. That frightens her. Gold has had this plan for WHILE and she has no idea what it is or how it might screw up her own machinations.

She tries to get the upper hand back when she taunts him with the cup--but it's too late.

Gold is a dangerous weapon and the moment he realizes that Regina has Belle, that weapon is gonna be turned against the Queen.

I've been rewatching Once Upon a Time lately and nearly a decade later, Quiet Minds still pisses me off. It's like Eddy and Adam went 'Hmm. We want Hook to be with Emma. What's the quickest and least thought-out way we can get Neal out of the way?' and instead of employing their reasoning and writing skills or even half a thought towards the deeper story being told they just said 'I know! We'll have Rumple absorb him, drive him mad, and then fast forward through reconciliations and bypass true emotion for cheap tricks! It'll be great!'

Bloody absurd. Only reason I bothered to continue on past that episode on the rewatch is for OutlawQueen. Because heaven knows they didn't know what to do with Rumple or Rumbelle for the most part after this.

So this is not to comment on either side of the Marina vs Penelope/Lady Whistledown argument. That would be an extremely long and detailed rant that I might do later. I will say that both Ruby Barker and Nicola Coughlan seem wonderful and I have nothing negative to say about either of them (and wish to hear nothing negative of either)! This is simply because the antis are ramping up again and I keep coming across a certain video. There is one phrase people have been quoting and I cannot keep myself from saying this anymore. You are all incorrect because you can, in fact, "Disneyfy a Dichhead". *Murder, Kidnapping, Manipulation/Mind Control,Torture even Sexual Assault have all forgiven and sometimes, at least seemingly, forgotten. The worst villans have been given a redemption arc and considered good or even heroic by the end and it all started with a new look and Tale of True Love.

Whats truly insane is that It Worked! It worked so well that it ran for SEVEN season!

FOR FUCKS SAKE, It only ended 5 years ago. There was even a one season spinoff with a complete story!

And this was all done on ABC with Disney characters portrayed as adults. So maybe we're all being a little hard on the teenagers in Netflix's regency Shondaland.

you don't understand. you truly don't. the magicians did superhell before supernatural even conceived of it. sera gamble looked at her bisexual suicidally depressed main character whose life was finally starting to turn around and was like what if i had him needlessly kill himself "heroically" after saving the cuntiest tall man on earth (a "sacrifice" but not one that narratively needed to be made?), the love of his life, and then gave that same man a stupid thoughtless "love interest" at the very end of the series. after permanently separating him from the other half of his soul btw. and having him be possessed for the final year of the main character's life. sera's spn crimes cannot compare to the carnage she wrought with the magicians.
