Things I've noticed while rewatching 'Once Upon A Time':
Snow white was an excellent tracker in the enchanted forest and Emma Swan was also an excellent tracker as a bail bonds person in Boston. Like mother like daughter.
anyone else remember the first season of once upon a time where henry’s therapist asks him why it’s so important for the fairytales to be true and this little ten year old boy says “because this can’t be all there is”
and yeah once upon a time is kind of a ridiculous show and it’s very much a telenovela but it also has this one moment that gutted me the first time and will haunt me forever because the entirety of human imagination and expression is contained in that one line
this can’t be all there is
and hopper doesn’t have an answer to that, the show doesn’t have an answer to that because there isn’t one. we will always be poking at the edges of our reality looking for something outside it. because we hope there’s something better out there. and maybe there is, but we have to learn how to live with that doubt
Season 1 Emma really did everything out of spite like she literally stayed because Regina wanted her to leave. That was a stated fact. I remeber thinking "damn, she is trying her best to be a good mother from the get-go" but no. Pure spite.
Okay but Regina being mad at Snow and blaming her for Daniel’s death is really frustrating because it was for sure Cora’s fault. She manipulated Snow into telling her under the guise of wanting to help Regina and then killed Daniel. It has always frustrated me to no end that she was so angry at Snow when she was a literal child who only wanted Regina to be happy
Things I've noticed while rewatching 'Once Upon A Time':
In episode 1x10 '7:15 am' snow white is about to erase her memories of charming but he sends her a letter declaring his love and uses the line 'not a day goes by that I have not thought of you'.
In episode 3x11 'Going Home' Emma has to erase her memories to escape the curse and Hook uses the same line charming did on snow 'Theres not a day that will go by that I won't think of you.'
So I started watching watching Once Upon a Time...
I am years late, I know! I know this is an old show that had its moment and most people just remember fondly, but this show is insane and if I can’t talk about it on tumblr I can’t talk about it anywhere, so im gonna talk about it !!
The following includes spoilers for season 1
Thoughts on the main characters:
Mary Margaret is a hypocritical protagonist (tm) and I don’t like her, but her coats and fashion is peak 2011 style
Emma is boring and also hypocritical
Regina is evil lesbian Hillary Clinton and I love her, also her backstory was so funny because I was like “I wonder how they are going to justify all her anger towards Snow White?” and then the answer was kind of stupid, but also i really liked that episode so idk
Prince Charming is the worst character. He is a cheating manipulator and I don’t like him
The kid (now adult man?) who plays Henry is doing a pretty good job, especially for child actors
August (pinocchio) is kind of sucks until he shows his wooden leg and then I thought he was kind of hilarious and I loved that
MR GOLD IS THE BEST PART OF THIS SHOW!11!! He doesn’t chew the scenery, he fucking eats it! This man rolls up with his cane and snappy suit and floors these bitches, and also I am so excited for more Rumbelle
And finally: JUSTICE FOR STEALTHY (and grumpy is like 100% gay but also its awesome he wants to fuck a nun)
Of course non of these thoughts apply to the actors, they are all totally cool people im sure
Other random thoughts:
The CGI is so bad in the fantasy sections of the show. Its not even the CGI artists fault either. I just cant it all looks so bad and sparse. like none of the rooms have any stuff in them because of the green screen
Also I kind of expected Red to be the wolf, but at least her whole story was kind of badass
This show is hella anti-adoption too! And, I get the foster system is fucked up and its meant to be all fantasy, but they go in real hard on “real family” and especially early on in the season it feels weird to me.
I do like the costume design, especially Red’s costumes and the whole town’s style is very early 2010s disney edgy t-shirt, like the ones where minnie was tatted and stuff
I think all the main characters are sort of crummy people. They have committed fewer actual crimes than Regina, but they aren’t really good either. It reminds me of my favorite song in Into the Woods
I’m rewatching OUAT and I wanted to share some of my opinions on each season!
Background: I first watched the show in middle school and I have only rewatched season 5b (for the Greg Germann content). I LOVE OUAT. It was my favourite show for a long time, I had merch and everything. It will always have a special place in my heart. Anyways, here are my thoughts;
- I like Snow but I can’t stand Mary Margret
- She is so annoying
- Regina has the best quips
- Again, I like Charming but David is annoying
- I forgot about the ENTIRE murder plot in season 1
- Literally WTF was that
- No wonder the show is tagged ‘soap opera/melodrama’ on Disney+
- Katherine deserved better
- Rip Graham, I could care less about you
- I kinda love August ngl
- Jefferson: kinda annoying, kinda slay
- I forgot how bad the cgi is at times
- Wonderland looked HORRIBLE
- So gummy and bad, like the cgi budget was 10 cents
- Regina walking in episode 1 lol
- Love Rumple, he is one of my all time faves
- He is literally so iconic and funny both as Rumplestiltskin and Mr Gold
- Same with Belle
- I NEED MORE RUMBELLE CONTENT!!!
- Rumbelle kinda has Chuck/Blair vibes imo
- Their backstory ep was my favourite ep this season
- Blue is so shady like hmm…
- Most iconic lines: “THE CURSE ITS HERE!” “I will always find you” “give them their best chance”
- Rip Daniel
- Cora made an okay first impression but she is a lot more interesting later
- Idk why but I hate “Dreamy” I don’t like nova/astrid AT ALL
- Red’s backstory ep was a blast from the past, I read Red’s Untold Tale when I was like 11
- Rumple calling his son ‘bae’ was very funny to me in 2016
- THERE IS A TOWN IN MAINE (me skipping the recaps)
Neutral: Regina, Henry, Katherine, Granny, the other dwarves, Jefferson
Dislike: Mary Margret, David, Cora, Dr Whale, Blue, Sidney, Graham
Hate: King George
Season rating: 8/10
It’s iconic because it’s the first one, the Storybrooke plot line was okay, the flashbacks were good, the finale was great. Needed more Rumbelle though.
OMG OKAY SO, in season 7, its obvious Henry is taking the place of s1 Emma. That would mean Ivy and/or Victoria is taking the place of s1 Regina, and Lucy is taking the place of s1 Henry.
But, in season 7, Henry gets drugged and kidnapped by a man (Nick/Hansel) who claims "the curse" is real, and he was Hansel in The Enchanted Forest. Now, that situation sounds awfully familiar, doesnt it?
Meaning, Nick/Hansel is taking the place of s1 Jefferson/ the mad hatter. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
