Pixie Recaps Starfleet
Hello! There are five weeks until the season two premiere of Strange New Worlds and I am using them to photocap one episode of each series I haven't done one for yet (Discovery, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Strange New Worlds). Further thoughts on Intersex Tendi
So it’s canon that she doesn’t produce pheromones like other Orion women, and I for one am hoping this means she’s intersex, because we intersex people haven’t had any Trek representation and it’d be great to have some. So what kind of intersex variation might she have?
I’m currently leaning towards her having an Orion equivalent to Turner Syndrome (one X chromosome).
Humanoid aliens in Star Trek are generally depicted as being basically human with a few twists here, and humanoid species generally seem to interbreed without issue, so I think it’s fair to assume Orions have a sex determination system similar to humans (X/Y chromosomes, estrogens & androgens, etc)
Tendi is petite. Other Orion women we’ve seen - especially ones from the current era of production (e.g Osyraa) are taller & fuller-bodied. Short stature is a characteristic of TS.
Tendi has a higher voice than the other Orion women - Osyraa has a much deeper voice in comparison. Higher voice is also a TS characteristic.
Finally: Tendi’s ears are low set, which is also a TS characteristic.
Not sure if we’ve seen her neck, but if it were webbed that would also be very TS-like.
That all said, I’m not 100% sure TS is the right model here. Tendi has breasts, which folks with TS tend to need hormone therapy to develop. But it’s Trek so good chance she would have had access to hormone therapy.
Another decent candidate is Aromatase Excess Syndrome. It’s also characterized with short stature and higher voice -- but importantly --- also breast development. So also a possibility.
