how abt a family Ror story where their child(reader) is ai hoshino?

In case you don't know who ai hoshino is; she's a teen idol, actress, and model from the anime "Oshi No Ko" that lives in a life full of lies by pretending she loves her fans and belives that lies were a form of love and saw it as a way rk express her love to her fans. But she becomes pregnant and decides to go on a hiatus to save her reputation and gives birth to twins, and after giving birth she continues with her career and becomes more famous later on. But in the end, ai's/reader's lies catches up to her and leads to her death by one of her fans(which was a stalker that found out her secret kids) going to her home and killing reader with a knife.

This is just a short summary that I hope you understand since the anime goes much more deeper if you haven't seen it.

But I wanna see how the family like helps out the reader with her idol career and her twins, as well as how they go through the readers death if you wanna add that! :))

I haven’t watched this series, but I heard how dark the first episode was where she dies in front of her babies- that sound super harsh!

-It was an accident, the one-night stand that led to you being pregnant, despite being a teenager. You felt ashamed when you found out, and you felt scared about what your family was going to think once they found out.

-They supported your dream of becoming an idol, becoming your first fans, and even if nobody else came to one of your concerts, they would always be there for you.

-You became popular over time, slowly rising in popularity until a video of you went viral and you became super popular.

-Your family still supported you, but wanted you to be safe, so you always had a chaperone, as you were still under aged.

-It was one wild night that you managed to sneak away to have some fun, unaware of what was going to become of that fun with one of your fans.

-Your family was upset when they found out, not because you went and had fun, but because you were scared to come to them- despite this new step in your life, they still loved you and still supported you, even if your idol career was over.

-You wanted to become a mother and they supported you when you gave your final concert, a farewell to your fans before you started to show, telling them that you were quitting due to personal reasons.

-Many of your fans were upset, not wanting to lose you, but for the most part they all supported you, giving you words of encouragement if you ever decided to come back.

-Your family was by your side from there on out, helping you with morning sickness, cravings, going to your appointments with you, and helping when you wound up bed bound during your last trimester, due to your petite size.

-You welcomed your babies, a boy and a girl, twins- which was surprising to everyone as all the scans ever showed was one baby, but you were overjoyed, and your family instantly were whipped for your twins.

-It was trial and error on your part, learning how to be a good parent, luckily you had a lot of people on your side who offered you different strategies, viewpoints, and advice, and your family was impressed, you took to being a parent with ease, once you had a rhythm down.

-It was a year later, on your twins’ first birthday, you had worked hard making a beautiful birthday party for them, with help from your family who helped you and your babies celebrate when a knock came to the door.

-You went to answer it, thinking it was the caterer, as you had ordered a sandwich platter as there were so many people at the house and it would be easy to clean up.

-Before you was not the caterer, but a fan, one of your first fans that was not a part of your family, seeing you in an apron, your bright smile falling into one of confusion.

-You only saw the knife as it was coming towards you, your shriek of fear filling the house before your family ran to your aid, seeing your fan had stabbed you in the stomach, crying heavily like this was hurting him and not the other way around, “I can’t believe this is the reason you left! You became a mother?!”

-Leonidas showed no mercy, kicking the boy away from you hard as Odin quickly held you in his arms, his magic trying to slow the blood flow from the wound.

-Blood was coming from your mouth and tears from your eyes from the pain and fear as you heard your family yelling, calling paramedics and police, yelling at the boy who stabbed you, and your babies were crying. But everything sounded so far away and was slowly fading, your vision going dark.

-You were their light, snuffed out too soon, as you died in Odin’s arms, the wound too severe to do anything before paramedics arrived.

-Your family felt broken, in shock, seeing that you were gone, taken from them so cruelly.

-The fan was arrested and thanks to security cameras, he was put away for life, everyone knew his name for the one that killed you, and with it, everyone found out that you had been pregnant and had twins.

-Many fans tried to say they were the father, wanting fame, but you were the sole parent, and you had, just in case, prepared if anything ever happened to you, that your family would become the guardians of your babies and that your babies, once they were old enough to make their own decisions, could consent to a paternity test, but until then, the decision was left to your family who had no hesitation in giving these glory hounds the boot.

-Your fame skyrocketed more after your death, after everyone learned that you became a mother, and how you were killed by a fan who wanted you to be an idol once more.

-Your family kept your babies out of the limelight, and did their best to do the same, not wanting to expose them to the fame of being your children.

-Your family was guarded and protective of your babies, not wanting to risk losing them too, they wouldn’t allow it.

So, I feel the need to say something here.

So, I watched a recent video Thomas has been in with Smosh Pit. It was overall a sweet and funny video. But that's not what this is about. It's about the ending. When Thomas was asked the quintessential question of "where can they find you?" He goes like "Oh I do shorts, long form and short form" and "keeping up Vine". I was like yeah makes sense to bring that up, that's fine. But then he brought up Roleslaying with Roman. He was very happy to bring it up. However, no mention of Sanders Sides at all. I get it, Sides could be chalked up the being long form Vine things seeing as the characters are from Vine but...feels off. I remember times Thomas did advertise Sides on collabs and stuff. But other times he wouldn't really advertise anything specifically and just say the socials' names and just say basic shit like "fun videos with nice messages" etc.

But, I've also taken note that Thomas has been REEEEEEALLY pushing Roleslaying, a series that a lot of us weren't really expecting to be the way it turned out to be. We were just told "Roman series" for like a couple years before it was officially revealed. We all expected Sides Roman and we all felt kinda ripped off. Don't get me wrong, the series is nice and all, has a decent story, and it can be engaging to a degree, but it does have it pit falls. But, he's been really adamant on getting the series popular. Constantly promoting it, making a podcast for it(which to me seems unnecessary) and what seems like begging(to me) for 5 star reviews so that Roman of Reston can read them. Now it's like number 25 on Leisure on Spotify because of it. That is great and all but again, Thomas seems like he's forgetting where this series even originated from...Sanders Sides. His bread and butter. The series that garnered a majority of fans he has. A series we're all waiting for proper episodes for with the same spark and energy that it had originally. It seems Thomas has just lost interest in Sides but knows it's what got him popular on the YouTube space so he keeps it up for the money and relevance(for example Patreon branding). He says he still loves the series and enjoys working on it but the longer it takes to produce, the more it seems like it's taken a back seat in priority. I really hope this season finale is really worth the hype he's been pushing for it. But, the way he's been pushing Roleslaying makes it seem like he's saying "Like this! Please Like this! I wanna do this more!" Thomas, buddy, you need to realize that Roleslaying wouldn't exist without the popularity of Sanders Sides. Hell, Sanders Sides wouldn't exist without the Vine characters.

Now look, I get that Thomas shouldn't be tied down to just doing Sides content. But, using it now as a kind of cash grap and attention grabber like dangling keys in front of child feels sad to me. Feels like lately he's been using it as a buzz word or just for products...which is ironic because all sides merch has been wiped off the merch store. Sure, it could be making way for new ideas but they've made several over the years under the same manufacturer and didn't do this before. So, it feels off. If it was because they were out of stock, they could just list it as "Sold Out", not wipe it entirely. And Now he's released Roleslaying merch and new Could be Gayer merch. Which that's fine, just feels weird that that is all that is available right now. Especially because I remember Thomas talking about hoodies for each side back in December of 2021 but a manufacturing issue came up. He said that it was due to the company not being able to do "custom orders" like that detailed. Which, I understood. But then like a week or so later, the Bucket Hats were released which just didn't really help the previous statement. So this whole thing feels off. I'm just hoping it's just a wait of restock or new design releases in the future.

I know this year has been hard on Thomas to do what he wanted in terms of the season finale. I hope that now that things are seemingly getting better, he'll continue the promise he made this year into next year of getting at least Part 1 of it out, maybe two if lucky. I just feel like Sides has plummeted from grace. What it once had is now a slowly crumbling ancient temple, that the more you try to patch it and keep it up..it doesn't last long. If there isn't a significant restoration done soon, it'll all fall apart. I pray that once the Season finale is released, the fandom will have a resurgence. Old fanders come back, animatics are everywhere, art is flying out like hot cakes, forums are booming, it's trending everywhere, and the fandom is reborn...and hope it stays that way into the third and final season. Hell, I hope Joan does come back to a degree and revive the husk the series has become. But, it's up to them to decide that. Now, seems like Quil is the only one left of the old writers of the series. And if she leaves, season 3 is going to be wild and may not even feel canon but again we have yet to see that.

I just want what drew me to this series back again. Is that too much to ask genuinely?

"Hey guys! Today we have my wife, Gracie Abrams joining us!" Y/n speaks to her camera as she sits in the passenger seat of her girlfriend's car.

"Not wife yet. Soon though" Gracie replies, parking the car in the parking lot of the restaurant.

"Yeah? How soon?" Y/n asks, giggling as she leans closer to her girlfriend.

"Very soon" Gracie quickly pecks her lips before pulling away, thanking the fast food worker that brings them their food before the worker walks away.

"Alright. So. We're just doing a little vlog today and there's a new restaurant that we wanted to try. So that's where we are right now" Y/n says as she watches Gracie did through the bag of food that was handed to her.

"Do you wanna try the chicken, beef or fish first?" Gracie asks her girlfriend as she pulls out the food.

"You choose first and I'll try after you. Gracie's my taste tester if you guys didn't know. If I haven't tried something, Gracie tells me if it's good or not" Y/n tells the camera before she feels her girlfriend arm wrap around her shoulder, pulling her closer.

"That's because you're such a picky eater" Gracie replies, kissing her girlfriend's cheek.

"You know, when she first had dinner with my family, they didn't know she didn't like corn and Y/n didn't wanna be rude so she ate the entire plate. Then she spent the whole car ride home trying not to throw up" Gracie tells the story as Y/n groans.

"Your parents are so nice! I didn't wanna make a bad first impression. And they're such good cooks.. you know, apart from the corn" Y/n scrunches her face up at the thought of the vegetable as Gracie takes a fork full of the chicken.

"Okay, this is really fucking good. Come here babe" Gracie tells her girlfriend as she puts more chicken on the fork and puts it in Y/n's mouth, watching as Y/n moans at the taste.

"Alright, you gotta edit that part out. That sounds for my ears only" Gracie tells her girlfriend with a smile, half joking.

"Come here" Y/n replies, pulling her girlfriend closer to her before putting her mouth against her ear, letting out a soft, quiet moan of Gracie's name.

"Babe! The cameras on!" Gracie exclaims as she laughs with a blush on her face. Y/n laughs in reply as she picks up the ice cream that they ordered.

"Oh, so you'll try the ice cream but not the actual food?" Gracie asks with a grin.

"Yeah, you want some?" Y/n asks, eating a spoonful before putting another one in front of her girlfriend's lips, watching as she eats the ice cream off the spoon.

"Babe, you should cut your hair" Y/n tells her girlfriend suddenly as Gracie looks at her confused.

"Where did that come from? I thought you liked my hair"

"I do! But you would look so cute with short hair. Like shoulder length" Y/n replies, moving her hand to play with her girlfriend's hair.

"I thought I was already cute?" Gracie asks, putting on an adorable pout.

"You are! You're so fucking adorable!" Y/n replies, squishing her girlfriend's cheeks and pressing a soft kiss against her lips.

"You do realise we're giving the fans months worth of content, right?" Gracie asks pulling her girlfriend closer.

"Yeah, but it's fine. They deserve it" Y/n replies, placing another kiss on Gracie's lips.

"Oh wait! We need to get Weenie more treats!" Y/n remembers, telling her girlfriend to drive to the pet store.

"Also, I know I said that food was good but it was actually kinda shit. We need to go somewhere else" Y/n continues as she stares at the road.

"Yeah, I was gonna say that" Gracie agrees.

"You said it was good!"

"Yeah, if I said it was bad then you wouldn't have tried it. I'm helping you try more things" Gracie replies.

"Aww, you're so cute! I love you so fucking much!" Gracie parks the car outside the pet store before stepping out the car.

"Do you wanna wait in the car?"

"Yeah, you won't be long, right?" Y/n replies.

"I'll just be a few minutes" Gracie says before walking inside the pet store.

"Alright, I guess while Gracie's gone, I'll answer some of the comments from the last video" Y/n tells the camera as she picks up her phone and goes to her comment section.

"How did you and Gracie meet? We met when I was in college. I was in the same class as Audrey, if you guys don't know, Audrey is Gracie's best friend. Audrey invited me over because she thought Gracie and I would get along. And look at us now!" Y/n giggles before moving onto another question.

"Is Gracie actually good at baking? Guys, she is so fucking amazing, she could actually sell them at bakeries. The first time I had one of her cakes was when she made one for me on our first anniversary. And she made my favourite and I didn't think she would remember what it was because I only mentioned it once like a month into our relationship" Y/n gushes only to stop when the car door opens.

"Alright, where do you wanna eat?" Gracie asks, turning on the car.

"I dunno, where do you wanna go?"

"Please not this again. We do this every time!" Gracie replies with a laugh.

"Fine! I want ramen" Y/n says as she watches her girlfriend begin to drive to the noodle shop. When they arrive, Gracie goes in to order while Y/n waits in the car. Gracie sits back in her seat, taking Y/n's noodles out and handing it to her.

"You wanna try some?" Gracie asks, holding her fork with her own noodles on it up to her girlfriend's mouth, causing Y/n to put them in her mouth.

"Wait babe, come here, you got something on your mouth" Gracie tells her as Y/n comes closer to her, watching as Gracie goes to wipe her lip only to connect their lips instead, causing Y/n to giggle into the kiss.

So here’s a project I’ve not advertised at all. No Requests: Live! From the Tavern is an Adult focused Edutainment series focused on discussing Art, Music, and Media. Each episode is broken up into segments that work together in a playlist including various other videos on Youtube. This means Music Videos, short films, and other video essays, curated together with extra commentary from the host of the show, Tavern Barz.

That’s a weird and unnecessarily complicated format, why are you doing this?

It’s really easy in this day and age to use Youtube videos as a replacement for other content. I mean, why watch a two hour movie when you can watch a 20 minute recap?

This is a bad habit. Critique is important aspect to a good media diet, but a diet consisting solely of critique misses the point completely. In order to talk about media, we must also experience it.

This format means we don’t directly compete with the art featured. Rather, Tavern Barz acts as a museum curator, and the other media in the playlists serve as the actual art itself. The original videos will get their view, and… as a nice little bonus, I get to avoid the copyright bots.

Why are you using a cartoon?

I mean, I’m an animator. I don’t know what else to tell you. Why does the Chocolate guy use chocolate when clay will last longer?

But also, I don’t really have any desire to host the show as myself. There’s a hundred and ten other Youtubers who will get on camera to talk about stuff, and like, I don’t have the room for that.

Besides, Tavern is a character distinct from me. As a writer, I have full control over the narrative I want to tell, and placing myself in the center of that just feels weird. Tavern’s allowed to act and be weird and hypocritical. Tavern is allowed to grow as a character in ways you can’t really depict through the lens of literal documentary filmmaking.

So that Cyclops character isn’t just your rantsona vtuber avatar?

I mean, in a very literal sense, Tavern is a Vtuber. They are a virtual character serving as the host for a real show on Youtube.

But Tavern’s also an OC with lore and a planned Story Arc. The pilot is admittedly pretty bare bones with all this, but I intent to incorporate more story elements as the series goes on.

Alright, so what’s the lore then?

Tavern Barz is the Cycloptic owner of the Tavern Barz Tavern, a fifth dimensional divebar thar exists all across Time and Space. After several eternities of service, Tavern thinks they know it all.

This is not true.

Is this project family friendly?

Not really. The main character is a bartender, so there's a lot of alcohol focus. Plus, a lot of the featured videos will also contain plenty of adult themes.

The pilot is pretty mild. There's some swearing, but nothing too serious. But the non original videos might have adult themes. I have some later episodes planned, including one focused on The Male Gaze, and in those cases, I can't in good conscience recommend these videos to minors.

All in all, I like to call the tone of the project comfortably adult. I'm not going out of my way to be edgy, but I'm also not censoring myself. If this were an actual TV series, it's probably be TV-14. Edgier than the Simpsons, not as edgy as Rick and Morty, so about the level of Futurama.

When will this project release?

April, 2024. As of the time of this writing, the first episode is basically finished except for the credits, but I also need sometime to compile my sources, write descriptions, and make some thumbnails, as well as advertise the project.

I'm surprised that as the number one rk fan I haven't posted a small analysis of him yet but here we go

So what we know from RK so far is barely anything at all but it's clear he wants to escape with people together rather than alone.

of course if that wasn't clarified I would most likely interpret it as him using the nomes to get further without giving 2 shits about them, but because it's canon, thats not rhe case. that doesn't mean he doesn't defend himself though. He will kill/harm others in order to defend himself (n this is why a lot of the times where I see comics of him getting bullied i get pissed because thats NOT him.) he does seem to defend himself several times throughout the game and will harm others in order to protect himself. What's unique about him is that not only do we get a view of what's happening all the way down at the maw, but his story compared to the other stories has a much more different vibe to it. With mono and six it was very hectic. RK seems to be the only kid that doesn't outright have a chasing scene the same way Six or Mono does (The guests, The doctor, the teacher, that kind of chasing scene.) The only thing we really have is the little battles of him defending himself. he gets chased by the lady for the last bit, and I think that part truly shows WHY he didn't have any chase scenes. I'm sure he was panicking when the lady was chasing him, and when you're panicking, it's very common for people to get impatient. So when he gets caught by the lady, he desperately tries to get away, having the lady basically haunt him from each corner. he goes into a room at some point with a broken mirror and you know if he stood hidden in there or was patient enough to just wait a few seconds or avoid going to the door that opened for him, he would've most likely lived. but being the kid he is, out of curiosity, he goes to where the lady opened the door from. He seems to be a curious little guy. I also wanna mention that he is really smart and it's overseen by the Fandom a lot. We know that Six is smart that's canon, but let's not forget that RK literally solved THE LADYS PUZZLES. I'm sure the lady wanted her puzzles hard enough for not anyone else to figure out, prior to the figures being placed in odd places to take and put on a statue, and extreme puzzles that were even hard for me, he figured it out. it's amazing. And he's invaded the lady's space so much that not only did he finish all her puzzles but ALSO find out her secret. So RK is pretty curious, gets impatient when panicking, and smart on top of that.

Could be a stretch, but truly, in this fandom everything gets stretched so why not 🤷‍♂️

One thing about his story that makes me think a lot are the shadow kids. Although you can usually hear giggles and whispers in the game, if you listen close enough, they will say actual things! (What upsets me though is someone figured this out way before I did and while I went on YouTube to find voice clips I saw the video of the girl that posted this 😭 its only fair if I credit her she's called SPILLTHETHEORIES, watch her video its informative!)

Horror Movie Marathon (part 31)

Rhea Ripley x Reader

Summary: You are in a toxic relationship with an abusive man but manage to run away. A tall, black haired woman picks you up from the streets just in time so your ex doesn't get you. But who is she and why does she seem so familiar to you? As you get to know each other you start to notice weird feelings you never had before whenever she's around.

"Hey Rhea, there's a package for you" you shout in the direction of the living room. "Did you order anything?" you ask and hear her hurrying towards you.

"Yes, yes don't open it!" she says and takes the package. "Okay okay, chill" you giggle and she pecks your cheek. "any plans for today?" you want to know.

"none that I'm aware of but we still got a lot to do" Rhea states. "ye.. True.. God why does planing a wedding have to be so.. Ugh.. Stressful" you huff and walk back into the living room.

Your girlfriend laughs and goes to hide the package in her closet. She didn't order anything except the tailor made suit, so it had to be that.

She comes back to you and sits down on the couch next to you. "Okay, let's get some sort of organization in all of this. We'll start with choosing a location, okay?" she looks at you and you hum in agreement.

"Do you wanna go for a more private wedding or make it public in like the arena or so, having all the fans watch you know?" Rhea asks. "I'm not such a big fan of big crowds so I'd be thankful if we keep it fairly private" you chuckle nervously.

"Okay, uhm.. I know we're both not very religious and stuff, but what if we do it in an abandoned church or so and make it all spooky?" Rhea seems pretty excited about this idea of hers.

"well, it would be a very unusual and unique wedding, I'm in!" you grin at her.

You keep setting plans for another two hours before making a quick break to get something to eat and then continue. You didn't think that planning something this serious could actually be this much fun.

At the end you both were pretty tired and exhausted but happy. It was totally worth the effort, at least if it turns out the way you want it to. But that was a problem for tomorrow, for now you've had enough and decide to chill for the rest of the day.

Either spend some couple time or invite the boys over to play some video games. You weren't completely sure yet.

"Okay, so Finn just texted me, asking if we wanna hang out today as it's his last free day before he has to leave for a match" Rhea says.

"Sure, why not. Wanna invite all of them and make a horror movie marathon?" you smirk at her. "What's gotten into you lately? You're so hyped for horror stuff it's scaring me" your girlfriend laughs.

She quickly messages the boys about your plans and soon enough you were all settled onto the couch, cuddled up together under some blankets. Rhea on the outside, you next to her, Damian in the middle and then Dominik with Finn on the other outside.

You decided to start with the Conjuring series as it wasn't thaat creepy. You spent your hours, watching the movies, ordering and eating pizza in between and cuddling closer even more as you and Dom were little scaredy-cats.

It eventually got so late that your friends decided to stay the night. The couch was only big enough for two people, so Dominik slept in the bed with you and Rhea.

Have some Halloween movies in no particular order

The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra is a great time, if you can find it. It's a love letter to so-bad-it's-good horror movies from the 50's and 60's which were all ambition and no talent e.g. Plan 9 from Outer Space and Manos The Hands of Fate. One of the funniest and most quotable movies I've ever seen!

House is as gorgeous as it is spooky and goofy! If you've not seen it, you're missing out. It's made by a director who made advertisements and a lot of the special effects are what would have been common in Japanese ads at the time.

Martyrs goes on the list for that one asshole who needs something extreme. Not that it's a bad movie, of course. But if you're that asshole and have yet to see it, have fun! If you don't know what I'm talking about, this film is not for the faint of heart and I mean it! Look up "French extremism" if you're curious. Again, if you've not seen it and don't like lots of blood and gore and little left to the imagination, this is absolutely not for you.

Valerie and her Week of Wonders is a gorgeous example of Czech new-wave, about a girl becoming a woman in a village of vampires! Strongly recommend this one if you like House, it's super colorful and whimsical!

Tetsuo the Iron Man is my idea of a more fun kind of extreme film. This is one of those movies I've seen several times and can't seem to remember the story, but suffice to say it's a wild ride about a metal fetishist who becomes sort of a metal monster in a similar fashion to Tetsuo in Akira becoming a giant flesh monster. It's got a very goofy tone and is shockingly wet for a movie about rebar.

The Thing is never not fun. I'm sorry to say I don't know my Carpenter as well as I should, I'm just too stuck on how much I love The thing and may never move forward. Yes I've seen Halloween, just I like The Thing better.

The Devils is a movie you can't watch in your home in a legal capacity, Warner Bros is never releasing this one on home video. Rest assured you can find it. It's a Ken Russell film about a whole convent of nuns (the Mother Superior played by Vanessa Redgrave) are so in lust with this priest, played by Oliver Reed, that they all fein demon possession to evade persecution. The complete version of the movie includes a scene in which all the nuns bang a crucifix. It's one of those movies I say the production team went to "the cool face store", because wow there's a lot of cool looking faces!

I can't easily pick any one Jan Svankmajer film, so this is the Svankmajer portion of the list. For the uninitiated, he was a Czech stop-motion animator who made these hyper realistic claymation films, often with a dark context. My favorite feature length films of his are Alice (a telling of Alice in Wonderland), Faust, and Otesanek (his final film and magnum opus, aka Little Otik aka Greedy Guts, based on the fairy tale Otesanek about tree-root baby turned vore-monster). His films aren't necessarily scary, just very unsettling and disturbing.

Hellraiser 2 because I haven't seen it yet and people keep telling me it's the good one, as if the first one wasn't delightfully generous????

The Witches is a movie that upset my very Christian grandmother one time when I was a kid, watching it on TV at her house. I don't think she understood the point that the witches aren't the good guys. I know it's irrelevant, I just thought it was funny. I miss you, Nana.

The Worst Witch. Can someone tell me where to watch this? I never saw it before and I wanna see some tacky Tim Curry schlock

eXistenZ is a movie which I only saw for the first, second, third, and fourth time ever one week last year and I'm ashamed as a Cronenberg fan that it took me so long! Not necessarily his most Halloween-y movie (I'd argue that would be The Fly), it's just a lot of fun.

Final Fantasy 15 is the story of Noctis Lucis Caelum, crown prince of the kingdom of Lucis.

The Kingdom of Lucis is facing a crisis as the ever-growing Niflheim Empire is trying to expend and take the kingdom over, at the same time as a sickness called Starscrouge is slowly killing people. When the night falls, daemons come in the dark, and ever since those events have started happening, nights are growing longer in longer.

As the Empire of Niflheim is discussing peace treaty with the Kingdom, a clause is made on their contract to have Noctis marry Princess Lunafreya Nox Fleuret, who's been held captive by Niflheim for about a decade, and who has been Noctis's childhood friend and penpal. She is the Oracle, chosen by a prophecy to be the only person capable of healing the Starscrouge before the sickness takes hold.

King Regis decides to send his son to his marriage-to-be right before the peace treaty is officially signed, accompanied by his three most trusted friends - Ignis Scientia, who's been working as a royal advisor, cook, caretaker ever since they were children, Gladiolus Amicitia, who's been Noctis' bodyguard and royal trainer for a very long time, and Prompto Argentum, Noctis' school bestie who, despite having no relation to the royal family, is the only person outside of it Noctis managed to get close with.

But soon after their departure, the peace ceremony goes array- King Regis is murdered and the Kingdom of Lucis fall to the Empire, now leading a manhunt for Noctis to kill the royal lineage, and recover the Ring of Lucis, a powerful artefact carried through the family that, especially once coupled with the Magic Crystal that is the source of all magic in Lucis, can connect its wielder with the Kings of Old to access tremendous power left by the Gods.

See, there is a prophecy in the Lucis lineage that one day the One True King Of Light, chosen by the Gods, will be able to purge the world of the Starscrouge and Daemons, ending this curse at all cost. and, as you can imagine, this burden will fall on Noctis's shoulders as he goes through his new journey to awake the old gods and reunites the soul weapons of the previous Kings in order to unlock the full potential of his power.

The game mostly plays as an open world where you explore the valley with your besties. There is a lot that is very difficult to communicate that is just about how it feels like a camping simulator. You don't want to stay up at night for too long because Daemons are overleveled and bitch to kill, so you try to level up, do your missions, and enjoy your time connecting with your friends, learning more about them.

From Prompto's insecurities about his place in this journey, to Ignis's unwavering loyalty that would oversee Noctis's protection to the end, to Gladio devoting himself to being the shield even when everything starts to fall apart, you end up caring a lot for this group of misfits who are just trying to enjoy their journey knowing it might be their last.

You spend the game mostly having fun with them. Finding place to camp, new recipes for Ignis to cook, Prompto is constantly taking pictures and selfies to remember the journey by, you stop to every ponds to be sure Noctis can enjoy all of the fishing he can, you meet up with Gladio's little sister, it's really a really heartful game in ways that are very difficult to articulate.

... until shit hit the fan.

You're introduced to the real antagonist of the game, the Empire's chancelor, Ardyn Izunia, who's been pulling the strings all along, while also helping Noctis unlock the powers of the Gods.

And when finally it's time for you to go find Lunafreya for their wedding and hopefully linking the power of the Oracle to the King of Light in order to finally purge it all.....

Ardyn will brutally murder Lunafreya in front of Noctis, killing with her any possibility to stop the Starscrouge and the endless nights around the corner. The death itself is pretty heartbreaking, showcasing Noctis' very difficult time to deal with her loss, and Luna was defined by how she was willing to do everything to carry her duty to the end, so it was really sad.. but Luna was not very well written unfortunately (she appears maybe 15mins in the whole game up until this point) so i don't have as much to say about it :( it was super heartbreaking but yeah... yeah.

During this confrontation, Ignis will lose his eyes trying to protect Noctis, as Noctis was unconscious and Ignis grabbed the Ring of Lucis to ask for the powers of the Gods to protect him, and the Gods burn his eyes off. (it's so hard to properly explain but Ignis becoming blind ends up developping a lot of problems in the plot, of course, but especially in the gameplay. Like you spend the game having Ignis cook all sort of things and exitedly tell you about what he's going to cook today, and then your first campire after this incident you see the only food you can cook is some canned bean and it's just. so sudden in the way to tell you Ignis is changed for ever by it.)

Shortly afterward, Ardyn will create illusions that will push Noctis to push Prompto off from a moving train, resulting in Prompto getting kidnapped and experimented on by the Empire.

all while Gladio is losing his faith in Noctis because everyone is expecting so much from him, that they're their only hope, and yet Noctis is so lost in his grief that he doesn't focus on the bigger picture, while everyone he loves is losing everything around them.

When you finally decide to take down the Empire's HQ to get Prompto's back, is when a lot of truth starts to unravel.

You learn that Prompto is the clone of one of the highest funding members of the Empire, who was created to become one of the mindless drone enemies you fight the whole game, but has been smuggled out of the labs before he could be turned as such - only keeping a mark on his wrist reminding him of who he truly is. As much as Prompto always wanted to be Noctis' friend, he always feared that him being a clone, a failed weapon made by the enemies, would eventually disgust Noctis, and he feared all his life that Noctis would turn against him. so you can imagine the panic for Prompto when Noctis did attack him due to the illusions.

Most importantly though, you learn that Ardyn Izunia is actually Ardyn Lucis Caelum - one of the prince of Olds, the first person who was prophetized to be the King of Light. Bahamut himself, god of gods, gave him for missions to purge the Starscrouge, and Ardyn did just that, and took all of the Starscrouge in the world inside of his body, eradicating it from this world... and when he came to ask what he was supposed to do now, the Gods turned on him and left him to his fate, as he was not the one to actually serve to finish this prophecy. (if i recall correctly they legit say it wouldn't be narratively satisfying. Fuck the Gods, fuck Bahamut, all the homies hate Bahamut no matter the universe.)

Then, as the gods refused to clean him from the scrouge, his brothe, Somnus, tried to kill him before locking him into a magical prison and a magical slumber for the centuries that followed. Somnus became known as the Savior of Lucis, he took the credit for the actions of his brother, and build his kingdom on his ashes, continuing his royal line until Noctis' birth out of it.

When the Niflheim Empire started to come to power, they freed Ardyn, and figured out how to be able to use his power -- Ardyn could unlean the Starscrouge inside of him and have it spread into the world.... and we learn that people who "die" from the Starscrouge actually become Daemons, creature of the night, and the more people become Daemons, the longer the night will last.

And so Ardyn unleashed all of his power, all of his suffering, but himself has been turned into a Daemon at this point due to the sickness ravaging his body for centuries. He only feels pain, and he cannot die, for the sickness made him immortal. So while the Empire woke him up to use him, Ardyn decided instead to use the Empire to take revenge on the descendant of his brother, destroy the world he had sworn to save, and finally by the end, being killed by the True King of Light in the way the Gods will find narratively satisfying.

And finally, as our four companions are trying to escape the forteress, Noctis finds the Crystal, and with all the power he has gathered since then, and prompted by Ardyn telling him that the only way for him to know how to defeat him, Noctis approached it... and was taken in by the Crystal.

In there he met the Kings of Old who told him about the prophecy. The King of Light will pure the world of the Starscrouge and the Demons by taking out Ardyn for good.... but since Ardyn cannot die, his soul will always come back into his body, the King of Light must die as well in order to kill Ardyn's soul in the afterlife once its there.

Noctis therefore learns that by the end of his journey, the only thing that awaits is his own suicide in order to finally put Ardyn to rest.

The Crystal kept Noctis in it for about ten years. For ten years Noctis could do nothing but wait, as the Night fully took the lands over and destroyed everything. Only small camps here and there managed to survive and fight -- and his three friends have been trying to do their best for the people's survival, while being torn apart at the sudden loss of Noctis that day.

When Noctis finally returns, he can meet with his friends one last time. And tell them what awaits him.

For one last time you team up with your dearest friends, all of them having to be aware that they're walking you out so you can kill yourself to finally bring peace.

Before entering the final room to the final boss fight, Noctis turns to his friends, and ask Prompto to give him one of the pictures he took. You go through all the pictures you took as Prompto as you decide which picture Noctis will hold on in his last moments, holding on knowing they were the people who brought him on this journey to start with. In there Noctis will share his final words with them.

And finally you leave your friends behind. Finally it's time to fight Ardyn as he himself only awaits for death. Two dead men giving each other a last fight, two pawns by the prophecy made by the Gods, tool in a narrative that never saw them as humans, no matter how hard they clang to their humanity and to the people they loved.

One last final fight, finally killing Ardyn. And watching Noctis climbs on the throne of his father, and empale himself with all of the swords of the previous kings, in order to finish this fight in the afterlife.

And so the game ends. Ardyn is dead. The Starscrouge and Daemons are purged from this world. the Kingdom of Lucis can live on and see better days. And Noctis is dead as well, standing on the throne of his father.

In the last moments of the game you see him in the afterlife where he reunited with Lunafreya. He's holding the picture you picked in the previous scene. Looking over his friends one last time.

And then in case it's not enough you have the DLCs. Ardyn's DLC tell you more about how the Gods set them up for narrative satisfaction to start with. Then you have all three friends' DLC, set at points in game when you don't know what happened to them. But all of them ends with some final goodbye of some sort.

Gladio's DLC is the most underwhelming one in general so i don't really know what to say about it, and it doesn't really have a big payoff.

Prompto's show how he felt, abandonned in the snow when Noctis almost killed him. Having to wrestle with his existence as a clone, and figuring out if Noctis even wants him by his side. This DLC ends on a last conversation between Prompto and Noctis right before Noctis entered the crystal, in which Noctis tells Prompto he hopes he'll be by his side as he'll try to be a good king. Prompto promise he will be, always.

And then. Ignis' DLC. god that fucking DLC.

You really see the events in which Ignis stole the Ring to try to protect Noctis there, the event that rendered him blind. You see how much he fights out of devotion for Noctis. And you learn that when he put the ring on, the Kings of Old told him Noctis was going to die. Ignis spent his life protecting Noctis. In fact, you go through various flashback of their first meeting. Ignis has to learn that the kid he's protected his whole life, is going to die, and there's nothing he can do about it, because this is the fate that has been drawn on him.

On the first ending of the DLC, There is one last goodbye. Where Ignis wants to follow Noctis to the end and Noctis has to stop him, telling him that he wants him to live on.

BUT THEN Ignis's DLC has an alternative ending. an ending where when Ignis hears the plans the Gods had planned for Noctis, he tells them, screw you. I'm never going to let it happen to him. I'll fight all of you if i have to and i'll save Noctis from this cruel fate you have planned.

And so in this ending, Ignis doesn't let Noctis walk into the Crystal and they work together, in an alternative way, until they can save him and put him on the throne.

and let me be clear: this ending is impossible by the game's lore. It's purely a fanservice fix-it ending, a what if, Ignis' ultimate proof of love that is enough to screw over the prophecy hundred of years in the making.

Where Ignis manages to save Noctis so Noctis can actually live on as the King he was raised to be. For ever at his side.

SO. WELL. WELL. I NEVER RECOVERED.

(and i am in fact crying as i'm writing all of this)

all of that while the main theme of the game is a Stand By Me cover by Florence + The Machine that will forever rip your heart and will leave you crying your eyes out as you finish this game, especially after the true ending, watching Noctis' die, and then hearing this fucking damn song.

Anyway i never fucking recovered from it. Like, never.

Like, even a summary doesn't do it justice. My first playthrough took me hundreds of hours. I spent hundred of hours with those kids. Enjoying their banters, seeing them protect each other, fight with one another. There's so much of their dynamic that is so deep into the gameplay, the way your companions will check on you during a fight, the moments they'll pause to have a high five, those moments of pure happiness where you know they're having fun by each other's side.

and Noctis being such a good character you really get to love and for what. And for what!!!!!!!! to get him killed by the end???? like for crying out loud. literally.

So yeah that's the speedrun of what FF15 is about. It's about tearing my heart out of my chest, that's what it is. (and others themes but you get my point)

She just has to follow team orders but what happens when one man challenges her on and off the racing line...

After Saudi Arabia, Liv headed straight for Sydney. She didn’t want to head home to California first before the race since the time change would mess with her head. Red Bull set her up close to where the track would be, and she took a couple of days to get over the high. Bucky flew in a couple of days later, ready to go over numbers and video.

He moved into the bar of the hotel and saw Liv sitting at the bar, her long legs crossed dressed in a short, black flare skirt and a green blouse. She dark hair was loose about her shoulders. Bucky gawked at her for a second. She was gorgeous and he was suddenly nervous. She turned and saw him and smiled. “Hey Bucky!”

Bucky moved and gave her a one arm hug. “Hey Bug, how are you?”

“Rested.” She smiled radiantly. “Exactly what I needed after the whirlwind of a couple of weeks.”

“Hate to break it to ya, kid, but as the season goes, it just gets worse.” Bucky flashed his best smile.

“Well, you tell me what I need to know, boss.” Liv shrugged and Bucky laughed.

“Alright let’s get started.”

Bucky pulled all the numbers and reviewed everything with her, tire pressures, fuel usage, speed, wind velocity, anything that could hinder or help in qualifying or the race. “Look,” he started, “it could mean nothing or everything with these numbers. Everything will change once you are on the track.”

“It is different. I mean, moto and F3 are totally different from F1, I knew that but wow.”

“I know what you mean.” Bucky took a swig of his beer. “But, let’s leave it. I wanna know more about my racer.”

Liv smiled. “Why? So, you can get a feel for me?”

“Kinda. If I know you, what it’s like when you sound frustrated or angry, it helps during a race. You can communicate with me without saying the words. And remember that radios can be translated on a broadcast because they can hear us.”

Letting out a frustrated sigh, Liv looked at her crew chief. “Alright fine. How will you know what I sound like if nothing is frustrating me?”

“Easy. Let’s talk about something the frustrates you.” Bucky cocked an eyebrow. “Like Steve.” He watched as Liv frowned at the name. “Thought so.”

“Thought what? That your best friend is a cocky, arrogant, petulant asshole?”

“Please tell me what you really feel.” Bucky laughed as Liv ordered a gin martini.

“He’s just such a jerk. He thinks he’s better than everyone else which he is not. He’s good, I’ll give him that but one day all that arrogance will bite him in the ass. Someone just needs to knock him down a peg or two. I mean, he has potential to be the next Vettel or Hamilton if he just utilizes and works with the team he’s got.”

Bucky’s mouth hung open for a second as she finished. She took a sip and then said. “What?”

“How do you know him so well?”

“Please, I know how all of these racers work. My dad is a legend for a reason. We studied F1 like some study football. Plus, you know, Ransom.”

“What is the story with that douche?” Bucky signaled to the bartender for another.

“The story with Ransom is that I was 18 and stupid in love with him. He swept me off of my feet. Should have lied about my name and maybe I wouldn’t have been used.” Liv drained the martini glass. “So here I am, finally living the dream at 28, and it has to be with my ex-boyfriend.”

“Have you seen him since you came back?”

“No, thank God. He’s lucky too. Told him and that bitch I found him with that I would punch him the next time I see him.” She flashed a smile, but Bucky could see the hurt in her eyes. “Didn’t realize that it would still hurt five years later.”

“How long?

“Almost five years. Made it to the day before our anniversary. Came home early to surprise him. Surprised me more.” Liv thanks the bartender before taking a health sip.

“Sorry Bug.” Bucky rubbed the small of her back.

“‘s ok. Frank helped a lot. So did my sister. I started racing motorcycles after that just to feel something again. Haven’t really dated since. Don’t trust guys much anymore.” She looked away from him, trying to abate the tears.

“We’re not all that bad. And Stevie, well, he just had a lot happen to harden him but he’s usually a sweet guy from Brooklyn.”

She snorted. “I can imagine. Guess I wasn’t worthy enough to see it.” Liv finished her drink. “I’m going to get dinner and then head up.”

“Would you like some company?” Bucky flashed her a soft smile, showing off his Brooklyn charm.

“Sure boss. Tonight’s tab can be on you.” She stood up and offered him back the same soft smile. He stood up and took her hand, placing it in the crook of his arm.

“Dinner with a beautiful lady. How can I say no to that?”

Liv’s cheeks flushed a delicate pink. “Charmer.”

They walked out as Ransom hit the lobby. He sneered at the image of his girl on the arm of Barnes. A voice beside him interrupted his thoughts. “What are you staring at Drysdale?” His partner, Lance Tucker clapped his back.

“Nothing. Let’s just check in.”

After a couple of good practice sessions, Liv left confident heading into qualifying. The confidence left after the first session.

Qualifying in Formula one is broken down into three sessions. In the first session, all 20 drivers take to the track and lay down a fast lap. The five slowest drivers are eliminated and slotted into their positions for the race. The FIA, the regulating body, then wipes the times and the remaining 15 drivers do it again and another five drivers are eliminated. In the final session, the fastest car of the 10 remaining is considered in first position or pole.

Olivia makes it though the first session. She is sitting in her car, waiting for her team to release her in the second session. “You got this Liv”, she hears from Bucky.

“Thanks Bucky,” she chirps back. She gets thumbs up from Frank and she heads onto the grid, warming her tires as she makes her way around the 3.2-mile track in Melbourne. As she gets closer to the starting line, she makes sure all of her gages and temps are where they need to be. She sees the start and takes off.

And makes a mess. She jumps curbs and almost loses the back end on turn 5. Her time is low. She pulls into the pit and the team changes her tires. She heads back out, but the time is hardly better than before.

“What the hell!” she yells in her radio.

“We don’t know Liv, nothing changed from practice. You got time for one more.” Bucky tells her calmly, trying to get her to relax.

Liv drops the clutch and shoots forward, starting her last lap, hoping to avoid elimination. She makes it around faster but its still not enough and she qualifies 11th. She heads in to the pit and parks the car.

“I’m sorry Liv, I don’t know what happened, but we lost DRS and it just wouldn’t stay open.” Bucky took her hands. “You were driving great. This isn’t on you.”

“Yeah, alright.” She pulled away and headed to the trailers to change. She still had her interview obligations to complete so she cleaned up and head out. Once she was done, she headed to her corner in the garage. It was high enough that no one would notice her unless they were looking for it. She headed up and curled around herself just needing a few minutes peace. She wipes away a frustrated tear.

“Problems?”

Olivia rolled her eyes as she saw Steve looking up at her. “Fuck off Rogers.” She started to climb down to head back to her trailer.

“See your attitude is still as sunny as ever. I was wondering.” He smirked up at her.

Olivia saw the smirk and her heart fell. “You’re happy I failed, aren’t you?”

Steve didn’t hold back. “For you, yes. For the team, not so much.” He shrugged. “I knew last week was a fluke.”

This brought even more tears. Being here, driving, was her dream. They say never meet your heroes. They couldn’t be more right. “Get away from me. You are an ass.” She moved to walk away from him.

He grabbed her arm. “Hey, I’m top here, just help me stay there,” Steve growled.

Liv shook her arm off and turn to him. He saw the tears in her eyes. And he instantly regretted his words. But she was done. “Right, because it’s all about you right? Fine whatever. I just wanted to make the Bartons, Andy, Frank, Bucky and… and you, proud of me. Guess I failed in more ways that one.”

Steve was stunned. “Olivia…”

“Save it. I don’t need or want your pity. You make it perfectly clear that I don’t belong here. You just want me to help you get to the championship. Message received. Excuse me.” She walked quickly out of the garage, leaving Steve stunned.

Steve’s POV

Steve stood with his hands on his hips staring at the door Liv just exited from. He hated seeing her beautiful eyes red rimmed. He knew qualifying wasn’t her fault and he wasn’t sure why he had attacked her like that. Maybe he was going about this the wrong way. She was good, that much he knew but maybe just talking to her might help her. He shook his head and walk out.

Right into Johnny Storm and Chase Collins, drivers for team Ferrari. “Yo Rogers!” Johnny flashed his infamous smile. “Heard your rook had a rough day.”

“Yeah, what’s it to you?”

“Nothing, just though you might know where she is.”

“I don’t.” Steve started to walk away.

“Shame, was hoping to comfort her,” he heard Storm whisper to Collins. The men laughed and it took everything within Steve not to turn around and pummel him. He let go of the fist he unconsciously made, letting the blood run back into his hand. He frowned. Why was his reaction to someone being disrespectful to Olivia violence? She didn’t like him, and he didn’t like her. But after seeing her eyes in tears, it dawned on him.

He might have, maybe, sort of, kinda, have a crush on her.

The race on Sunday went better than Liv had hoped. Her start was better, and she was able to keep pace. She passed several car and ended the day in fifth, earning her Driver of the Day honors. As she parked, she hopped out to be weighted. She smiled at Bucky and shared high-fives with the entire team. She looked up at the podium and watched Steve win his third in a row. Ready Player One's stuck on my mind again, so

I made this account to post long, ramble-y things occasionally that wouldn't fit on other social media sites. Might as well put it to good use!

Fair warning - Ready Player One spoilers ahead. It's been out long enough that I doubt anyone would care, though, especially after taking a brief look through posts with the tag.

It's a story that's a sort of boogieman for me. Every couple of months, my brain meanders back to this part of the woods, sees the beast, and roasts it relentlessly for how ineffective it is, despite its promising appearance. ...Promising appearance? Shoulda gone Intimidating instead, maybe? I dunno, this metaphor was a weird choice.

A few years ago, our teacher forced us to read it and we all went out as a class to watch the movie. The entire class - teacher included - absolutely hated the book, but found the movie fine. Well, outside of the plot holes, at least... What do you mean no one drove backwards in a race for FOUR YEARS? I'd do that in Mario Kart if I was doing poorly! It's funny!

We unanimously hated the book not because most people hated reading - everyone was pretty invested in the class, as it was "writing and literature in video games", and everyone was more than willing to participate and invest a lot of energy in the class - we all hated it because it was poorly written. We had some other points, but I don't want to get too side-tracked from the main thing I wanna focus on.

In the latter half of the second segment of the story, our Protagonist goes out of his way to play Pac-man. There was, like, an entire page or two dedicated to this. I decided to skim this part, since none of it seemed relevant. That is, until the very end, when our protag gets revived by the random quarter he got doing this sidequest. Turns out, the coin was just a free in-game insta-revive you got for playing pac-man on the buggy 256th stage?

This book was filled to the brim with reference slogfests, and every one before this one was basically one-and-done, having little to no impact on the story as a whole, or even the scene it was tied into. How was I supposed to know this was going to be any different? And even if I did know, why would I want to read through all this when it's not obviously moving the story forward in some way? The coin wasn't even mentioned between its introduction and the final battle! (At least, from what I remember. Maybe I skimmed that over too when it was buried in another reference I couldn't care less about.)

The movie, meanwhile, took the coin and tied it into a relevant point. Our protagonist didn't get it from some random side-quest - he got it from the museum's curator, who gave it to him after he went out of his way to research the guy who set up the main plot about acquiring ownership of the virtual reality world. He learned about something impactful to the guy's life, found a relevant piece of information that would help move him forwards, and THEN got this seemingly innocuous coin that would later save him in the final battle. Sure, it wasn't mentioned until the very end either (at least, not that I recall), but because it was better introduced, it felt like an actually earned moment rather than pulling plot armor out of his rear-end.

...maybe that's where he was hiding the coin in the book?

The weird thing is, the basic plot outline of the story was far more impressive. The movie didn't include any segments of the main villains, IAI, blocking off access to one of the keys with digital Wizards and using the fact that the key was in a no PVP zone to their advantage. It didn't include the main character turning himself into IAI under a false name in order to get high in their ranks and sabotage their grand plans. It didn't include one of the five major key-holders getting thrown off a thirty-story building to his death.

The book had all this and more. Its premise was AMAZING and I love the story it was trying to tell. Emphasis on trying. What the book had in potential, it lacked in execution. The movie, while dulled down in its concept, was better built for its creative medium and better realized as a story, even though it was more of an action movie.

If there's anything to take away from all this, tl;dr: Worldbuilding will only do so much for you. As with any sort of creative medium, it's good to dream big, but better to practice with smaller, more manageable projects.

...that last bit is more just good life advice rather than a real takeaway from everything I said before. Eh, whatever. I could ramble more, as I have MANY more problems with the book, but I think that's enough for one post. Plus, this is only my second post on this site...

Do you write in order? Generally, yes. Every once in awhile I'll have a scene or a little piece of something that gets written as it comes to mind, but it's often outline->write. The outlining/brainstorming process (as much as it is a process) is where the order happens.

This is notably not the case with Ask Me Anything, though, which is a collab and timey-wimey to boot, so lots of stuff needed to get figured out of order. We still haven't finished writing the chapter we're in the middle of posting, but the next one is finished and the rest are kinda 50/50 or 60/40.

How fully formed does your writing come out the first try? Gonna say a good 85-95%?? Depends on the story and whether I'm getting other eyes on it before posting. Most of Revenge Ranch got written and posted with a cursory read-through for glaring errors. Kitchen Mistakes & How To Avoid Them, though, tends to have its word count/phrasing fluctuate like 10-15% every chapter thanks to a delightfully nitpicky beta reader.

How many drafts do you go through? I don't really draft, per se? I spit it out, I review it, I get feedback (sometimes), I make changes, annnnd I'm done. Well, I guess that's technically drafting phases, but it tends to be less thorough than what I'm picturing.

Tell me about your process. I get an idea. It takes hold of my entire goddamn brain. I am compelled to start writing it down in some loose structure, usually bulleted lists, just to get it out of my brain. Sometimes the idea keeps growing, almost self-propelled (All That I Need Is You And The Sea). Sometimes it incubates a bit before it comes together, and needs to keep being formed and re-formed as it goes (Kitchen Mistakes), but the idea is still kind of in charge, if that makes sense.

Other times, I really need to work at it, like, I know I want to do something with X character, but I need to do some background research, think about what my goals are for the thing, make notes on the POV character, etc. I put a lot of time into breaking down Revenge Ranch Roach for his POV story last fall, and that was kind of like pulling teeth, though I'm happy with the result. I think this version of the process might end up with more of "me" in it. Maybe because I have to work at connecting to it.

While I'm actually writing, I typically try to keep some VERY simple/high-level notes handy--like the key plot points/character notes to hit--but abandon the rest. Exception: if the background research includes some specific entity (object, video, song, etc.) I need to describe/reference in the story itself. Even if I don't feel like I'm in a 'flow' state or whatever, often I'll just sit there and try to start pecking out some dialog or description of wherever I'm at, and it starts to move along, or doesn't.

Sometimes I have to flit through a lot of background noise to find the right vibe for my brain at a given moment. The nicest, though, is finding one of those "8hr ambient aesthetic vibes" videos on YouTube that is kinda close to the setting I'm writing. There's a road trip Revenge Ranch story that I wrote while watching someone's dashcam video of a drive through New Mexico. I watched a TON of thunderstorm videos for a couple other entries. A chapter of Kitchen Mistakes that took place in Stede's study was helped along by one of those "evening fireplace and rain sounds" ambient videos. Fuckin' love those videos. It hits a sweet spot of noise (without lyrics or too much rhythm) and background imagery like watching TV, but without all the distraction.

In terms of technical settings: I like writing in LibreOffice when I can, but if I'm collaborating at all, it has to be GDocs. And I am a heavy user of headings/outlines in that case. I have a half-assed AO3 post template in LibreOffice with places for notes etc. to copy and paste in order. I've been known to make a spreadsheet when shit gets very complicated. My brain loves little boxes. I don't write on my phone except maybe some notes to self in Signal for ideas that come up when I'm not at my laptop. Love a physical keyboard and multiple windows, mmm, room to spread out and see lots of shit at once.

Guys I'm gonna tell y'all gossip from what's going on in Brazilian tiktok because I wanna gossip about this and I don't know anyone who watched the video. So there's this guy, right, he showed up with a 10 minute video saying that God had given him signs about the woman who's going to be his wife. The guy is a born again Christian and he does Christian music and he's talking about how one day a woman came up to him and asked if he was married, when he said he wasn't, she said he should get home and write down what he wants in a woman and that God was gonna give her to him. So he went home, wrote a list that legit made me cringe all the way down, that comes down to: she has to be Christian, love the Lord more than anything, she has to be music inclined because he needed them to understand each other through music, she has to have green eyes, she has to be white, and that she has to have "a fast metabolism so that she will still have a nice body after she has his children" and he is laughing while saying this. At this point in the video I was sure the guy was a psychopath, but I was in too deep to give up now, so he moves on to tell the story about how he basically stalked a girl because he thought it she was the one, but she wasn't musically inclined, she was just white and thin I guess, so after she blocked him on everything and her father made him go away, he went away. At this point, there's still about 4 minutes left in the video, he's talking like he saw the light, there's instrumental music playing that sets a disturbing scene, I have no idea where this guy is going, he starts talking about finding a girl on the internet that matches his description physically, I mean I don't think it's that hard to go on tiktok and finding a girl who's thin, white and has green eyes, but sure, but he was sure it was her, but he was skeptical she was going to be a good Christian woman because she was internet famous. At this point I feel like I'm watching a bad remake of an episode of you. But turns out she is very much a Christian person, and she even does Christian music. So he goes on to talk about how he deduced that she's the person God was sending to him, so he started talking to her in her comment section and he knows she feels the same because she sometimes responds to his comments, but she has a boyfriend, so basically he's asking the boyfriend to break up with her so she can come find him. And that is gonna be fine. Then he does a very disturbing comment of "god showed it to me, and if she doesn't want to, it's okay, I'm not a psychopath, but she will want it *Joe Goldberg laugh*" and apologizes to her boyfriend, saying he was there first, before finishing the video. The woman that man is talking about has over 5 million followers on tiktok. Over 6 million on Instagram. She was in Brazilian telenovelas. It's like, straight up me coming out to the internet saying Luke Hemmings needs to leave his wife and marry me because I keep dreaming about him. And that man has been in her comment section, on Twitter, since the beginning of 2023 saying he's gonna marry her. I feel like I'm being punked but at the same time there's nothing bigger than the confidence of a below average looking man. I thought the video was bad, but the tweets and comments are worse. This man ANSWERS TWEETS ABOUT HER BOYFRIEND. He says shit like "oh how did you know she was gonna be with me" or whatever. The man is fullblown delusional and everyone is trying to figure out if he's a character or not while every woman in the girls comment section is telling her to go to the police and get a restraining order or something. I keep learning things about the guy and he keeps getting more disturbing and I'm seriously afraid for every white, thin woman on the internet.

Chainsaw Man's anime and why it fails as an adaptation

I LOVE CHAINSAW MAN I LOVE CHAINSAW MAN I LOVE CHAINSAW MAN.

And with that said, I hate the Chainsaw Man anime,

It's nothing to do with the artstyle, far from it, I think the still images look BEAUTIFUL, I LOVE THE MUSIC, all the tracks hit hard and help with the "feel" of the story, and I also really like all the different endings per episode they made, it's one of the first times Mappa used freelancers in a big way for their anime, they'd go on to implement this in great lengths for the Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 adaptation which is making numbers right now, I see Chainsaw Man as kind of a test for a lot of things, and that's got a lot of value, but it's also exactly where my praise ends. See, Chainsaw Man is kind of a movie, even in the manga you can tell Fujimoto's love for cinema, the panels are framed in such a way you can tell he was thinking of a movie scene, the tons of references throughout also scream for his love of the medium (I mean, Chainsaw Man's opening is like FULL of references, here's a video recounting all of them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow0eoZJ1QvA), so naturally the adaptation took this as well, but maybe they went overboard with the fidelity, they don't really innovate at all on the original manga, apart from 3 scenes which I can remember, they don't add anything to the story, but weirdly enough they took some scenes out for some reason? Like the muscle devil in the original manga, which was a really weird thing to do in my opinion since it was a valid scene that showed Denji's character, the scene goes like so in the manga, right after Makima finds Denji and picks him up, they get into the car and go buy some food cuz Denji is hungry AS HELL, when they get to the food place a bloodied man comes out of nowhere and says a devil took his daughter into the forest, Makima says they can help cuz they're devil hunters, Makima tells Denji to go hunt the devil for her cuz otherwise her udon (food) is gonna get cold, she also says she's heard that dogs who aren't useful get euthanized, scared, Denji runs into the forest looking for the devil, and sees a little girl who tells him her dad hits her and that this devil saved her, the devil reminds Denji of Pochita when he first found him, remembering that Pochita is practically dead now, he doesn't want to kill the devil anymore, but he also doesn't wanna get EUTHANIZED so he tells them both to run separate ways, then the devil reveals she's taken control of the girl (cuz he's the muscle devil and can control any muscle he touches) and is gonna do bad things to her when he gets rid of Denji, so Denji goes modo diablo and cuts the devil up into pieces, and says he'll sleep tight tonight knowing he killed a piece of shit like him, so he does, the girl is freed, and Makima tells Denji he's a dog she can use, Denji replies with a woof (same), and almost faints into Makima again, saying he got a bit anemic from the blood loss turning into a devil consumes, he also tries to explain how he got turned into a chainsaw man to Makima (even though she knows perfectly how and who Pochita is, but she's deceiving Denji by playing dumb), Makima also tells us she can tell Pochita is inside him, and that her nose is "really good", Denji gets happy when he hears this.

Makima points out how funny it is he calls soggy udon delicious, being completely oblivious to Denji's ABSOLUTE TRASH life until this point (orphan and broke), after this the chapter plays out exactly like in the anime. Pretty much everything stays the same except for the muscle devil, which is why it's a big head scratcher as to why they removed it, it showed Denji's willingness to follow Makima's orders for one reason or another, in the anime she just says "Useless dogs get euthanized" and Denji just gets scared, here we see him running headfirst into danger over getting his potential new life taken away, we also see him getting tricked by the girl, showing how easily tricked he is (which is important many times in the story as he constantly gets tricked) and we also see just how little Makima cares about him unless he does as he's told, here we see PERCECTLY the master - pet relationship they have for the rest of the story, we get none of this in the anime, and while it doesn't hurt it too much, it's a really weird decision apart from the argument that MAYBE the time was already too tight with only 12 episodes, but the decisions they keep making throughout the anime makes this hard to believe. So they take out this scene right? In change, what do they give us, what do they do with this free space they now have, well pretty much nothing, Chainsaw Man's pace when a fight isn't going on is pretty slow, like a movie, at times it's dialogue heavy and really shows off a lot of random things going on, specially in the earlier parts of the story, but we also gotta remember, watching an anime is a way different experience than reading a manga, the pacings are different, WAY different, and most adaptations adapt to this by adding scenes or removing scenes to favor moments happening or not happening, like Jujutsu Kaisen, that changed the entire place of an arc, the hidden inventory one, to adapt it better and make it more understandable, they also add scenes to make the characters feel deeper and emphasize all the tragic moments, in Chainsaw Man, they try to give us a little slice of life moment, but it's too little too late, in the manga we don't feel like the characters don't interact that much due to how fast the days and events happen, in the anime, they kind of drag out, making it all feel slow and heavy with not much happening, this is fixed in my opinion with the last 3 chapters, but that's like, 3 thirds of the anime poorly executed. In the end, I don't think it's a truly BAD adaptation, but GODDAMN it could've been better, there's so much in the manga to adapt that'd look so cool, yet they give us this perfectly serviceable but not great 12 episode anime, I know why this is, Mappa has been overworked to hell for the past like 2 years, but a part of me wishes they had given this more love, hey at least Jujutsu Kaisen is getting all the sweet juicy love and ideas they didn't put into Chainsaw Man. TLDR:The Chainsaw Man adaptation doesn't adapt it just copies and pastes, go read the Chainsaw Man manga instead bro it's peak.
