"Shiroe-senpai!"
Soujiro's visage exuded bright excitement as he waved his hand, catching the eye of both players and townsfolk alike as he passed by. It wasn't often when the leader of Log Horizon (or a player of his caliber in general) sought out external assistance, let alone Soujiro's. Needless to say, he was eager to hear what Shiroe had in mind.
Could it be another raid? Some important mission? Or even just a secret mission with just a few members senpai handpicked? Uwahhh, I can't wait! I can't wait!
Once Soujiro's presence was acknowledged, the said excitement changed into calm gratefulness instead. He felt glad and relieved that someone like Shiroe started asking for help these days, rather than the old days by working by himself most of the time. Soujiro thought had the best ideas, to the point that he could be quite oblivious whether there were devious intentions behind them.
"I'm sure you either had something important to ask from me, or that you want to simply play catch up," he chuckled. "But we both know that the latter is more of a luxury these days."
Unbeknowst to Shiroe, Soujiro's admiration towards him alone would make him stop anything else he was doing, if it meant acknowledgement and praise from one of the players he respected the most. (As Nazuna would put it from time to time, like a puppy eager to please.)
( so this is an ask of all time... Hello!! Shwksns )
Ha. Unfortunately, Soujiro isn't exactly wrong about the lack of freetime they all have. As everything surrounding their circumstances comes closer to slotting perfectly into place, the gaps between "incidents" seem to shrink.
But neither of his guesses are entirely off the mark.
"Actually, you could call it a little bit of both..." Shiroe begins, a little vaguely. "That is, it's something important that I trust you with, but I wouldn't say that it won't involve any catching up..."
It's true that he probably could have asked just about anyone to join him for what he was planning to do with enough preparation beforehand. As far as operations went, this one wouldn't require a particularly large group of people, nor did Shiroe think it would require an especially particular team composition. It wasn't reported to be as difficult as an ordinary "boss fight" in terms of raw power, after all. But he stands before Souji now for a particular reason.
"For a while, I've been working with Rieze and Misa from D.D.D. to keep an eye on the waters that separate the physical locations of the Chinese server and the Japan server, since that's the shortest way for Kanami and Krusty to make their way here. Recently, Misa informed me that a Genius had been spotted who was able to completely disable an Adventurer's capability to do things like view the menu, or communicate with eachother through telepathy."
According to his meeting with the two interim leaders of the guild, the Genius hadn't been particularly strong, but things like menus and telepathy are vital to a party of adventurers, especially during sea-based battles. Cutting off access to menus was already bad for spellcasters and healers, but parties spread across multiple ships would have been essentially unable to convey anything to the members of their party on a different ship. Which was why...
"If it's a small enough party, using menus and status screens isn't strictly necessary, and we'd only have to use it with one ship if we only took a few people. But, just in case, I figured it would be best if I were fighting with people who I can trust myself to figure out. So far it's just me, Naotsugu, and Nyanta... But I wanted to ask if you and Nazuna would be willing to accompany us."
Shiroe can't help sounding sheepish, uncertain of himself. It's still just a little difficult, getting used to asking others for help, even knowing Soujiro likely would jump at the opportunity.
unprompted. / accepting.

if a way back to earth was found, what would be consequences of such a thing? such as whether or not some people would stay or the landers flipping out because the adventurers are bailing out on them.
Thanks for your patience! Work bled outside of work hours this week.
So! Wild Mass Guessing time! IMO, the consequences would depend on what type of a “way back to earth” is discovered, and there are three options: 1) mass reversal of the Catastrophe; 2) individual one-way street back to earth; 3) individual two-way street back to earth. Most of these are also predicated on all parties knowing the terms involved (which is unlikely, but who knows). Let’s explore!
1) Mass Reversal of the Catastrophe. Essentially, someone slams the reset button or smashes the applied phlebotinum, and voila! All the Adventurers are back on earth, and no one gets a choice. The Lander reaction here is simple - either they think all the Adventurers are bailing out and there will be no more (and so flip out and try to stop it, with a smaller portion saying “good riddance”) or the effect reversal is known AND explained and they’ll go back to normal operations as a video game. In which case (probably unsaid to the Landers), they won’t care anymore, because from both Lander and Adventurer perspective the other party is now back to being mindless. Now it’s POSSIBLE that things won’t work out like that, but if things don’t just go back how they were, it’s also possible that the Adventurers are getting shoved back into dead bodies or comatose bodies.
The Adventurer reaction is much more interesting here, because it will either be one or the other - and given it’s not an SAO type situation here (to our knowledge), most Adventurers would resent someone taking that choice from them. There are already indications that a number of Adventurers have much better lives in Theldesia than on Earth (Touya, Nureha, Akatsuki, etc). These people are not going to want to leave, and some may violently oppose it if aware. IMO, this is Nureha’s purpose is in controlling Plant Hwyden to “find the way back.” We’ve been explicitly told that her life on Earth sucked, so it’s likely that she’s plotting for her worst case scenario (this one) in order to put herself in control of that reset button, so no one else can press it. Of course, those with strong feelings for family members left behind or traumatized by Theldesia may fight equally hard for the way home. The more violence and “death” there is over this, however, the fewer motivating memories people have to return for...
2) Individual One-way Street. They find a portal or ritual that can return an Adventurer back to earth. They will never be able to come back. Adventurers first this time. Where is it? Depending on the cost involved and scarcity (high-level quests, rare materials, etc), there may be both competition and cooperation to get people back to earth. Those who want to stay might monetize their aid; those who want to leave may band together to achieve the goal. If an individual Adventurer has left significant loved ones or goals and projects behind on earth, they’re going to choose to go back, even if, like Kanami, they really enjoy the world of Theldesia. Adventurers who had shitty lives will stay. Adventurers who have died too many times in Theldesia and have forgotten details that would make them care about earth will stay. Adventurers who don’t particularly care either way will stay, due to effort. If enough people from one guild leave, the whole guild will return to earth, or it will break down and integrate with those who are staying. The reverse is true too - I imagine if the bulk of Log Horizon chose to stay, so would Shiroe and Naotsugu, even if they have loved ones at home.
This one makes Lander response a bit more nuanced! The Adventurer population now turns into a finite resource that will decrease as time passes (unless Adventurers can have children, which has been… somewhat hinted at?). And hey! That’s our protection from the monsters who go bump in the night! Some very short-sighted and stupid Landers may try and threaten or force individual Adventurers to stay, or control the method of return (if known). Smarter ones will compete to sweeten the deal (and relationships) enough to tie Adventurer cities, guilds, or just individuals to the Lander population, so they’re willing to stay. Some nobles might try to take Adventurers on as part of their retained military force; others may try to build relationships to entice them to stay (Demikaas and his Lander wife, though likely not intended in this manner). It might also increase competition between Lander societies with regards to the location of Adventurers on a server (like the cities that bid for Amazon to host their headquarters there).
3) Individual Two-way Street. This is the most ideal outcome, but also raises the most questions. Where is it? How many? Who has access? Adventurers AND Landers? Is it expensive (in terms of materials or difficultly)? Can people from Earth cross to Theldesia? Will they be Adventurers too, or Landers? Do Adventurer’s abilities go away when they return to Earth? Can you carry *stuff* over too? Creatures?
For Adventurers, there’s no real dilemma outside how much it costs, who controls it, and whether people from Earth can come to Theldesia (Kanami’s kid). That last is a big one, because it potentially opens up Theldesia for exploitation and greedy capitalism, depending on who’s in the Know. Shiroe would probably be immediately planning for some kind of customs control or limitations on who comes and goes and for what reasons. But the two-way street removes the finality of the choice.
For Landers, the biggest consideration is how that entry point is managed, who wants to exploit it (if trade of some kind can be managed) and the passage of knowledge. Knowledge is the big one, really; exposure to more detailed Earth technologies would likely springboard them forward quite a bit. They aren’t so worried about the Adventurers abandoning them (though there still may be some bribery), but the Nobles may worry about the commoners running away to earth, and also money on their own parts. They may have mixed feelings about the spread of ideas (the commoners are getting Uppity).
Thanks for the ask! If you or anyone else has additional thoughts, please feel free to add!

The Persona 3,4, and 5 Rewrite FAQ Masterpost
Everything under the cut! Including my plans, current fics, and spoilers for all three!
Persona 3 Rewrite, titled “Pull The Trigger” (https://archiveofourown.org/works/18834676/chapters/44696302) -Hamuko is the main character, and protagonist! She does all the major plot important things, cause it’s what she deserves. -Minato is not excluded though! He is still a part of S.E.E.S, and is a senior student. He takes the role of the Navigator. His Persona is Eurydice, to mirror Hamuko’s Orpheus! -Fuuka is no longer the team’s Navigator! I’ve reworked Lucia into a battle oriented Persona! She uses the nuclear skills from p5, and has a big fuck off sword. -Yukari/Hamuko/Aigis RIGHTS! -Minato/Akihiko RIGHTS! -More LGBT Rep! -Not as many social links, mainly cause i’m not a big fan of the P3 SL’s, keeping the party members and a few favorites. -Both Elizabeth and Theodore are included, with the added addition of Theodore staying out of the Attendant fight. They are represented by the Temperance social link. -Shinji still dies, sorry!  -Ken isn’t used in combat as much, cause he’s 9. Same with Koromaru.  -Operation Babehunt? Don’t know her! The gang meets Aigis when Hamuko spots her on the beach. -The Awnser’s time loop isn’t just hand waved??? It’s def more explicit with (SPOILERS), Metis’s whole deal of being Aigis’s Shadow? -Little stuff, like Pharos ending everything conversation with “Time Never Waits”, Hamuko using ultimate personas after finishing social links, Rio’s inclusion, Hidetoshi’s exclusion, Fuuka being trans, etc, etc Persona 4 Rewrite, titled “Part The Fog”! -First off, Kanji is mlm, and Naoto is a trans boy. Those are the stories that Atlus wrote, but refused to follow up on. Naoto’s arc is about accepting himself as trans, Kanji’s is about him recognizing himself as gay. -Kanji is now the Navigator! Featuring a redesigned Take-Mikauzachi! Rise takes his role as an active party member. -Soukanji rights!!! Yukichie rights!!! Naorise rights!!! -Yosuke, Yosuke is bi. His social link itself is about overcoming his internalized biphobia and homophobia. It’s not his shadow’s main focus, but it’s a part of it. -Rise’s shadow is no longer a pole-dancer! her shadow takes the form of a clown like Rise, putting on a LOVELY carnival (her dungeon) to get people to look at her for who she really is. She finally takes off her make-up in the boss fight, splitting into a bunch of different rise’s and begging her to tell her who “The Real Rise Is?”, kinda like P4TA. -Adachi is dead. Full stop. He does not come back for P4AU. -Speaking of spin-offs, Kanami Mashita! After the events of P4D, she gets a Persona of her own, Laetitae! -Biggggg social link changes. A disguised Kanami, Amnesiac Labrys, and Sho all apear as Social Links. Kanami being The Hanged Man, Labrys being Strength, and Sho as the Moon. Other SL’s changed accordingly. -Marie is still present, and is more integrated into the story. She is one half of Izanami, and willingly erased her memories after seperation. She herself carries Fog with her, and appears...off. She has a too-long shadow, her smile’s a little too wide, her eyes a little too yellow, rain seems to follow her.  -Teddie is not a perv character. He’s close to the plot so I couldn’t write him out??? But he’s not as pervy as he is in canon, just a flirt. Also Teddie’s Bi, so jot that down.  -I really liked the concept that Rise’s non “Risette” personality was harsh and aggressive? So she’s really rough around the edges when she first meets the IT, only warming up to them after her dungeon is completed. Think Severa from FE13. -Overall, a lot more actual truth finding, a lot less homophobia and transphobia. Persona 5 rewrite, titled “Invitation To Freedom”!  -this is the one im most excited for HOLY S H IT -okay so, -redesigns for everyone’s phantom thief attire. especially the girls. Ann’s design is more like, a mix between her persona and Shego from Kim Possible? If that makes sense? Less dominatrix, more cutesy evil queen. (Makoto is more knight like, but is still spiky like a biker, Futaba resembles a video game merchant mixed with a tech super villain, and Haru is full on Musketeer.) -MORGANA ISN’T CREEPILY INTO ANN. NO MORE ANN BEING CONSTANTLY SEXUALIZED. G O D -speaking of Ann, her entire awakening scene is reworked. No more writhing for my girl. She still kicks the sword and kills Cognitive Ann tho. -Pegoryu rights!! Shihoann rights!! Okujima rights!! Kasutaba rights!! -Akechi joins during Kaneshiro’s palace, along with Makoto! Makoto gets herself in too deep thanks to her being over-protective, and Ren folds, saying that they need someone with detective work to help them, and as much as he hates it, Akechi’s probably been onto them for awhile now anyway. -Akechi is still the traitor. -There are not one, not two, but three players in Yaldaboath’s game! Whose’s the third player? Kasumi Yoshizawa! -Kasumi actually has her own team of Phantom Thieves! They interrupt The PT’s antics the palace, messing with them in Mementos, being rascals. her team includes Hifumi Togo, Sho Minazuki (the weird uncle who followed her into the metaverse), and an OC! (She’s currently based oN Hatsune Miku because I do what I want.) [This was inspired by a tumblr post I saw once,] -When I say that Kasumi messes with the PT, I mean like. They have this elaborate plan to steal Madarame’s treasure, but whoops! Kasumi has already swiped the thing and is a making a break for the exit! -Along with the standard chapters, smaller ones will be added to give the reader Kasumi’s perspective! She is also a wild card. -Goro lives and has a palace, sorry atlus!! -That one scene where Ryuji gets beat up for scaring everyone? Not fucking happening babey! -All those extra cells in the Velvet Room? there are only three! This is how Kasumi and Ren figure out each other are Royal (Codename still pending) and Joker. Miscellaneous
-I am currently in the process of adding more Personas and Demons to a growing roster so I can give each Arcana an even amount! Most info on the actual Personas, their skills, and the associated Social Links, can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uHJv26RnGryvx_yhfzloPzIQUAB_cYOtwyzWGAxKdlQ/edit?usp=sharing EDIT: i completely forgot that most of the new personas im adding are from Bayonetta!
-also im indecisive so uhhh help me decide P4 protag and p5′s protag’s name!

reVERSE
Send “reverse!” to see me attempt to write your character | Not accepting
He grins, perching gingerly on a set of blankets that aren't his own; operation "sneak into Kanami's apartment while she's at work" is a success. His shoes are sitting neatly on the vent below her window sill -- the same one he uses to get in all the time -- so as to avoid dirtying her floors wand leaving traces of his presence.
Smoothing out her blankets, his grin widens as he looks around. Now he's free to... what? Snoop? Be creepy? He could, but he won't. Instead he rummages a little here and there, even taking the time to set a few new records in Mario Kart. Before he leaves back through the small window, he takes the marker from its place on the magnetic white board decorating her fridge and scrawls the tiniest message. Pleased with his handiwork he erases his steps, puts everything back in its place and leaves, scrambling down the side of the building after his fallen shoes.
When she finally sees it -- and he knows she will because it wouldn't be fun to make it that sneaky -- she'll know it's him. After all, who else would write a tiny 'croissant' in English on her fridge?

LONG PERSONA CANON-RELATED POST AHEAD FAM SORRY IN ADVANCE
hwecqi replied to your post“By cameo I mean it is...
So when you’re saying we’re getting lots of non canon games despite them officially being called it sorta makes it weird to argue that point
hwecqi replied to your post“hwecqi replied to your post“By cameo I mean it is a full part of the...”
I mean, to a degree I agree with you, but when it's produced by the company that owns it, and all the teams internally recognize the canon of it (P4DAN is definitely rendered canon given the Kanami references in P5 for example) it's kinda hard to say it isn't canon. Of course you can accept whatever you want canon wise but that sorta dodges what's considered official.
hwecqi replied to your post“By cameo I mean it is a full part of the game for sure, but it's not...”
They generally continued the P3 lore by showing Mitsuru and the others with the Shadow Operatives as well as elaborating on where they went over the years after P3, and P4's spinoffs add more to what happens past the golden ending of the game
hwecqi replied to your post“l m fao sorry fam, followers are dropping like flies after that little...”
Was anyone actually attacking p3p though?
So, last thing I’m going to say about all this, because this is getting really tiring:
This whole canon debate is a Catch-22, and really effects P3P even if it isn’t directly brought up. By saying that P4A, P4AU, PQ and P4DAN are all canon, as a company you have to acknowledge that P3P is canon too, because all of these games are doing the same thing at their core: expanding on an already established story line. That’s all these games are doing: “continuing the lore” as you so eloquently put it. What really gets me is when you have P4G - which does everything that P3P did, including introducing a female character specifically for the portable version - it’s accepted as canon, but P3P is still thrown under the proverbial bus. Marie and Theo are completely accepted into the cast, but where’s Minako in the official artwork? In merchandise? Hardly anywhere. A keychain, maybe. A calendar. But that’s it. Bottom line: you can’t claim that one game is not canon as a company while the rest are because they’ve been successful. That’s not how things work.
Again, me personally: I dislike the spinoffs, specifically because:
PQ turns everyone into the stereotypical, overly-exaggerated versions of themselves (Aki and Shinji in particular) for laughs. While P4DAN is a “just-for-fun” kind of game, too, at least everyone is in character, not a caricature of themselves.
P4A, P4AU do not contribute anything for me storywise. They just don’t. If you gave me those games with 100+ hours of in-depth, well-written gameplay, I’d be on board. But it didn’t happen. They were boring, hastily done, and I don’t like them.
P4DAN is a great game on its own, and it’s cute. But again, it doesn’t expand on the story. It’s just fluff. Filler.
To me, they’re not canon. I don’t accept them as true Persona games. They’re farcical compared to what the main titles of the series have achieved. I don’t have to like them, but they’re canon to ATLUS. That’s the argument I’m making here. Which is why I’m bringing up P3P because dammit, it’s just not fair. P3P really improved P3, JUST LIKE FES DID. P3FES IS CONSIDERED CANON RIGHT? SO WHY? ISN’T? P3P?
Also, what’s “official” and what’s “canon” are two totally different things. We get the word “canon” thanks to the Bible:
canon: a collection or list of sacred books accepted as genuine."the formation of the biblical canon"
While Catholics believe the apocrypha is a definitive part of the Bible, other denominations don’t consider it canon. See what I mean?
P3P is definitely official, but it isn’t canon according to ATLUS. And this new game, Blaz Blue: Cross Tag Battle may be an official Arc System game (not even sure what ATLUS’s involvement is at this point, but it most certainly isn’t an official title), but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to be canon, especially with the cross-over element from different franchises.
TLDR; THIS NEW GAME LOOKS STUPID, I’M SICK OF P4, JUST MAKE P3 AND P5 STUFF FROM NOW ON KAY BYE

Chapter 1 of The Next Seventh Chevron is up on Ao3, now! Go me!
Here, however, is the copy for here, because I’m weird like that.
"So far so good, sir." Sergeant Harriman expertly panned the M.A.L.P. camera from one side to the other, examining what seemed to be the inside of a cave with the air of a man who'd seen the insides of far too many caves through a security camera.
"We've got some movement," he noted, pausing the camera where a shadow had flickered for a moment before stilling again.
"Natives?" General Hammond asked, peering down at the screen.
"Or animals. More likely animals. I’m not seeing any lights or fire." Harriman agreed, and resumed panning across the cave. "There we go. The DHD looks fine."
On screen, the raised pedestal drew closer, then turned as the M.A.L.P. circled around it to get a good look at the buttons.
"Looks clear, sir." Harriman judged a moment later, and Hammond straightened up, looking out the window of the operations room and down into the staging room, meeting Colonel Jack O'Neill's eyes and giving him a short nod before pressing the button to turn on the microphone into the room.
"SG1, you are clear to go. Good luck, people."
The four figures in the room below didn't waste any time, hefting backpacks higher on their shoulders and doing one last weapons check before one by one stepping through a rippling, waterlike curtain of energy.
A moment later, with a rushing sound not unlike a waterfall running backwards, the energy vanished, leaving behind only a ring, standing on edge, with a ramp leading up to it.
-----
"Oh yeah! Krusty's here too!" Kanami's voice was cheerful, and Shiroe's eyes widened.
"Krusty's what!?"
"He's here! We found him a couple of weeks ago, just wandering in the desert!"
A deep breath.
Another.
"That's- that's really great. We were worried about him." Hopefully his voice didn't shake as much as he thought it had, and he tried to ignore the watery 'He's okay!' from behind him.
Static crackled, and another, unfamiliar voice interrupted the conversation. "Teal'c? Major? We've got company, and it doesn't look friendly!"
Shiroe blinked.
What?
"Shiroe?" Kanami's voice was curious, "Who was that? More friends of yours? What did they say?"
"No," Shiroe frowned, "that came over the radio. I don’t know who it was."
"Really? That's so cool!"
"It's not possible," Shiroe corrected, "we're currently using the only radio array in Yamato, and I'm not even sure how we’re reaching China!"
Another burst of static cut through whatever it was that Kanami was about to say, and Shiroe froze, listening.
"Colonel, we ran into hostiles after the third fork. We’re going to have to fall back to the gate. We’ll meet you there."
Shiroe's eyebrows lifted.
Major?
Colonel?
The first voice came crackling through the dish, sharp cracks of noise almost drowning out the shouted request for a status update from the Major.
Shiroe frowned. "That sounds oddly familiar..." he mused, and from Kanami's end of the connection he heard muffled shouting.
"Really?" This time Kanami's voice is more concerned than curious, "What was it?"
Rieze’s voice was strangled when she spoke. “Shiroe, you never played any fps games, did you?”
“No, why?”
“That was gunfire .”
Shiroe startled, almost dropping his staff.
"That's impossible!" He exclaimed, "Guns don't exist on Theldessia!"
"Maybe an Adventurer re-created them?"
Shiroe could almost see the concerned frown on Kanami's face.
“No,” Rieze disagreed, moving forward to stand where her voice would better reach the broadcast array, “It sounded more like an automatic weapon, and that’s really not something that you can just make witho-”
"Sir, we're being pushed back to the gate by humanoid rats! We could really use some backup!"
Shiroe froze.
He had no idea what gate the woman was talking about.
He had no idea where she was.
But.
“Rat-men inflict the plague status effect…” Rieze murmured, her knuckles white around her staff. “And they don’t sound like adventurers.”
"Go on," Kanami's voice was almost gentle, "They need help, right? I'll still be here when you get back!"
"There's no guarantee that the array will continue to function for much longer," Re-gann warned him, glancing up from where he'd been fiddling with the wires that connected the radio array to the odd power pack he'd hauled through the building.
"Then you'll just have to save them quickly!" Kanami said impatiently, "And if we don't get a chance to say goodbye, that's fine! We'll just have to hurry and get to Yamato as fast as we can!"
"Right." two fingers adjusted his glasses, and for a moment he was silent, thinking hard.
"Radios." Shiroe said abruptly, his head coming up with the realization, "That's how we're hearing them; they're using radios too. Short range, more than likely, and military issue, since they're calling each other Colonel and Major. The range on those is..." he paused, then, shook his head, "variable, depending on terrain, but no more than a few kilometres."
"They don't seem to be able to hear one another," Soujiro put in helpfully, and Shiroe nodded.
"Difficult terrain can interfere with the signal, but we're higher up, and using a more powerful array, so we can hear them."
Two steps took him to the door, and for a split second he hesitated, glancing back at the radio array.
"I'll talk to you soon, Kanami," he called, and got a happy laugh and cheer of "Go get 'em!" before he strode out of the room.
"Does anyone remember the nearest location that spawns Rat-men?" he asked the room at large.
"Nakano?" Kitsunesaru ventured, his brow furrowed as he thought. "I think Rat-men spawn there sometimes."
"Some of the areas in the Hero's Mausoleum," Kushi Yatama added, and Soujiro, having followed Shiroe out of the radio room, nodded.
"Shinjuku Underground, too." He added, "Those three are the closest dungeons I know of, though."
Several of the others, all older players, added their assent and Shiroe planted his staff in front of himself, running his fingers over the smoothed wood as he thought.
"Are we going to go help them?" Hien asked, and Shiroe raised his eyebrow at the Wolf Fang, who shrugged. "What? It's not like most of us couldn't hear."
Shiroe sighed, then nodded. "Anyone who wants to help is welcome. Split into three groups, and head out. I, and anyone who wants to come, am going to the Shinjuku Underground Passage. Those of you who were listening, please fill in those who couldn't hear, but do it on the move. From the sound of it those people don't have a lot of time."
And with that, he strode toward the door, his cloak billowing behind him.
To absolutely no one's surprise, a flash of pink heralded Akatsuki teleporting to his side, falling in step with him as though she'd simply walked up. Minori and Tohya were next, and Shiroe glanced at Naotsugu as they passed him. The Guardian gave a barely perceptible nod, and fell in behind the four, pulling his griffon whistle out of his inventory as he went.
"We're going to be moving fast," Shiroe said, his face intent as they stepped through the shattered front doors and out into the bright sunlight, "but I know you all can handle it. It's not going to be quite as hard as the raid we just finished, but there is a chance that we won't make it in time. Those people could already be..."
He trailed off, swallowing uncomfortably.
"It'll be fine." Minori's voice was firm, and when Shiroe glanced down at her from the corner of his eye her face was as stubborn as if she'd just been told that she couldn't be a proper strategist because she was just a healer. And a girl .
(Shiroe had been around the corner when the luckless Guardian from one of the smallest guilds had said that, and the blistering diatribe Minori had unleashed had been worth the teeth marks Shiroe had left in his own hand trying not to laugh.)
“Yeah!” Tohya agreed, his smile full of steely eyed determination, “We’ll be fine, and those people will be fine too!”
Akatsuki huffed in agreement on his other side, and Naotsugu just shoved him gently in between the shoulder blades, rushing him the last couple of steps toward the clear area that would be best for summoning the griffons.
Two whistles, high and clear, soared through the clear air, and Shiroe listened for the returning screech of the griffons before turning toward his guildmates.
“Minori, you’ll be riding with Naotsugu. You’re light enough that it shouldn’t encumber the Griffon. Tohya, you’ll be with me and Akatsuki-”
“We’re coming too!!” Tetora, Isuzu, and Rundelhaus Code darted through the broken doors and across the cracked asphalt, Nyanta strolling along in their wake with his own griffon whistle raised to his lips.
Shiroe blinked, then looked between the seven adventurers and the two griffons that were only just touching down.
Even the griffons looked skeptical.
Right.
“Minori, Tetora, with Naotsugu. Isuzu, Akatsuki, with me. Rundelhaus, go with Chief Nyanta-”
“I’m heading to Nakano, nyan~” the werecat said, swinging up into the saddle of his griffon and pulling Serera to sit in front of him. Henrietta clambered up behind him, only slightly awkwardly, and settled stiffly into the saddle. “Isami and Yuzuko’ll follow, and Rudy can go with them.”
Rudy hesitated for a moment, glancing between Isuzu, Nyanta, and Shiroe, before nodding firmly.
“I won’t let you down, Master Shiroe!”
“Good.” Shiroe waited for a moment, watching as the blond boy trotted over to join the two women, then steeled himself. “Good luck!”
Slim fingers clutched the reins of his griffon tightly for a moment, then Shiroe tapped his heels against the feathered sides of his mount, which leapt into the air with great, surging beats of its wings.
“Why are so many more people coming with us?” Isuzu asked, peering back down at the ground, where a fourth griffon had just landed in front of a group headed by Soujiro.
“The Underground Passage for Shinjuku is huge,” Akatsuki explained, “And we aren’t sure where those people are, if they’re even there. Having more people means we’ll be able to split up if we need to, and move faster because we’ll be beating the monsters faster.”
“Nakano Mall is fairly large as well,” Shiroe added, “But the trick with that dungeon is the layout. It gets really confusing for some people, which is why Nyanta is going; he used to farm there when he first started playing Elder Tales.”
“Ohhh, what’s the other place? The Hero’s Mustang?”
“Mausoleum,” Shiro corrected automatically, “The whole area is a haunted graveyard. Once a year or so there’s an event; The Festival of The New Emperor’s Return. Most of the monsters there are undead, but in a couple of the underground crypts there’s places where Rat-men can spawn.”
“Huh.” Isuzu sat back thoughtfully, “Are we going to have to worry about that?”
Shiroe shrugged, “Maybe. It all depends.”
For a moment the three of them flew in silence, then Isuzu twisted around to get a better look at where Naotsugu’s griffon was flying laboriously after Shiroe’s. “Is that griffon going to be okay?”
Shiroe glanced back, then winced. “I hope so. I don’t think it would have taken off if it was overloaded, but we might have to avoid having Naotsugu summon it for a while, just to let it rest after this.”
Isuzu grinned at that, and at Naotsugu’s imagined reaction to it, then tucked her face close to Shiroe’s back to get her leaking eyes out of the air rushing past her face.
It was only another couple of minutes before the Shiroe saw the ruins of the aboveground part of Shinjuku station and the village that had sprung up in and around them and angled his griffon towards the ground as close as he could get to the entrance he was most familiar with.
The griffon landed with a light thump, and its three passengers dismounted as fast as possible, Shiroe dismissing his mount with a soft ‘thank you’ and a quick beak scratch.
Instead of flying off immediately, however, it waited until Naotsugu, Tetora, and Minori had dismounted, then paced over to Naotsugu’s mount and checked it over concernedly.
Shiroe ignored the byplay, focusing instead on the stairwell that led down into the underground part of the ruined version of Shinjuku Station.
“I always hated coming here.” Akatsuki muttered darkly from beside him, glaring balefully at the dark stairwell, “I had enough of getting lost in the real world.”
Shiroe stifled a snort, and hid his grin behind his hand. He knew exactly what she meant. Even in real life Shinjuku Station was a nightmare to navigate, with stairways that led to floors with no other stairways off, or floors that could only be accessed by elevator. Unless you spent a lot of time there, you could usually count on being hopelessly lost within five minutes. And of course, the Shinjuku Underground Passage had to be sufficiently different from the real world version that no one had an advantage, so there were even more twists and turns and dead ends.
Even though the monsters weren’t too hard to deal with, the Shinjuku Underground Passage was still one of the most hated dungeons on the Yamato server.
“So what’s the plan, Mastermind?” Naotsugu asked, coming to stand next to him and peering down the stairwell.
“We’re going to take this as systematically as we can,” Shiroe said, “keep your eyes open for signs of combat, and whatever you do, don’t attack the Rat-men . They don’t usually attack first unless they’re cornered or you’re a lower level, so as long as we move fast we should be able to get through without being bogged down by fighting everything.”
“Sounds good to me!” Tohya grinned, settling his hand on the hilt of his sword and staring eagerly into the darkness.
“Minori?” Shiroe asked, glancing at her, “Tetora? Last chance to back out.”
Minori scowled up at him, her grip on her staff tightening until her knuckles were white. “I’m staying.” She informed him, and Tetora grinned broadly at him.
“I can’t just sit back and let the opportunity for others to bask in my presence pass by!” She chirped, “There’s no way I’d ever forgive myself!”
Shiroe sighed, smiling fondly, and nodded once.
“All right then. Let’s go.”

Various thoughts from the 20-ish hour mark in Persona 5
(Spoilers up through the end of May and the second boss dungeon)
It took a while to get used to various of the mechanics, but I am so into all the cool thief stuff we get to do.  Crawling through air vents!  Sliding under laser beams!  Epic mindscape parkour.  Parker-from-Leverage would be so proud.
Even more than that, I am so so so into the way we are making plans with multiple moving parts and splitting up to enact them, as a team.  We haven’t done that in Persona before!  P3 was a disaster of everybody doing more or less their own thing and attempting to reach the same goal, P4 is a pile of puppies all going in the same direction, but this is different.  This is a team of thieves that can work separate angles of the same master plan.  It’s exactly the correct thing for this genre, and I love it.  The painting heist made me really happy.
I was kind of torn on the whole Madarame heist tbh.  ‘This guy plagiarized his students’ is just way less compelling than ‘this guy physically and sexually abused his students’, and it felt like a stretch to link plagiarism to the various miserable and homeless victims we occasionally ran into on street corners.  That said, the art museum, the ropes, the lasers!!!! made me very very happy, and I 100% called the whole Sayuri-painting-Yusuke’s-mom-etc thing.
It took me a while to warm up to Yusuke, but I have decided that he is bizarre and absurd and not quite right in the head and therefore I adore him.  He’s slightly less in touch with the real world than Yukiko.  It’s super-charming.
(Honestly I blame the name.  Why is half our party Yusuke and Ryuji, why is Atlus doing this to us, I recognize that in Japanese it probably isn’t quite so terrible but honestly.  And given that we’ve got a Yuuki and a Makoto both running around, what, was it just ‘let’s name half of the characters after people Yuri Lowenthal has voiced or would if we ever got around to making an English dub of that damn movie’ or something?  I AM AMERICAN I CAN’T TAKE THIS.)
I had to look him up, but apparently Goemon, aside from being super-cool (and of course Yusuke would have a classic Japanese folk hero as his persona, that is exactly correct), is partially famous for the failed assassination that got him publicly executed possibly along with his entire family.  Have we mentioned how very fucked these children are?
(Zorro and Arsene Lupin were pretty much fine by the end of their stories, honestly.  I’m real curious about whether that means something or not.)
I adore all women named Nijima and want nothing but delightful things for them, so mote it be.  Sae and Makoto had better both be social links sooner or later.
Mishima, you are adorable.  We are never, ever, ever doing Operation Maidwatch if I can possibly avoid it.  I am sorry, sweetheart.  You run an excellent fan site and I am happy to fulfill your requests to power up that social link, but that is a worse idea than Operation Babe Hunt and if it is anywhere within my power as a player we are just not.
So over the past month I’ve spent a ton of time absently watching my way through LP’s of P3 and P4, and one thing I’ve noticed from the full social link runs is that they tend to max stats very early so they can concentrate on social links later.  I am trying to do that but it is hard oh my god how do I get more guts, I need to social link with my very favorite slightly creepy fence.
I have thoughts about the plot/auto-levelling social links in the various Persona games.  They tend to reflect the protagonist and the core of the story--Pharos, of course, is obvious as Death, but Teddie as the Star does the same thing, given that the Star is effectively ‘hope’ (aka the protag’s role according to Izanami when she selected hope, despair, and emptiness).  Now we’ve got Magician, which is usually the dudebro BFF with the tragic love story.  Magician is skill, talent, and action, and it is the correct arcana for tricksters--which is exactly right for a story about thieves, yes, but I’m still curious.  I want to know more.  Why is that the arcana at the very core of this story?  (What is going to happen to our protag’s girlfriend(s)?  Why do all of his party members have personas with terrible tragic deaths, all of them except Morgana and the protag himself?  I don’t feel like that’s where this story is going but I can’t stop noticing.)
I feel like I’m supposed to be super-curious about who got our protag into Shujin Academy, what the principal is conspiring and who with, and what the deal is with the dude who got us arrested in the first place, but honestly I’m so busy being super-curious about the big picture endgame that I’m not thinking about it too much.  It’s probably going to be great when we get there, and until then I am busy wracking my schedule to squeeze out a little more time for studying or looking for a book to raise my guts so I can go talk to the back-alley doctor again, and that can just wait.
P3/P4 reference count so far: 2.5, with Kanami as the .5.  Rise on the poster in the subway, Naoto mentioned in passing on TV as the old detective prince.
BY THE WAY, WHO IS THIS NEW DETECTIVE PRINCE WHO THINKS THEY CAN TAKE THE TITLE AWAY FROM NAOTO SHIROGANE, HMMMM?  WE ARE GOING TO MEET HIM AND BE EXTREMELYL SUSPICIOUS AND DISAPPROVING and then probably ask him to join our party because lbr, Arsene Lupin beat Sherlock Holmes a couple of times but it’s surely much easier to work with the guy than against him.
I don’t think I’ve said anything about how we’re doing persona fusions in this game so far, so: it is both creepy as fuck and really, really interesting in terms of the mechanics of how fusions work?  You’re killing off your old personality to give birth to a new one.  It somehow tells me so much more about what’s actually going on in the protag’s brain than P3 or P4 ever did, and I’m really into it.
Morgana is the bossiest fucking cat who is always telling me to go to bed or informing me what books look too hard or boring for me to read, and between that and the way he licks himself while I’m making lockpicks, if we find out in the end that he’s just a normal cat who got caught in the deepest level of Mementos where the general human cognition believes that black cats are magical and can probably talk and turn into buses or whatever, I am going to laugh and laugh and not be even a little bit surprised.
(The way this game uses the protag’s internal dialogue, I instead of you and Morgana as a direct voice for all ‘you’-directed comments and observations, is a really interesting contrast to the other Persona games in terms of what it says about the agency of the player, I think.  Nobody is telling me how I feel, but on the other hand, the game is repeatedly telling me that I am not my protagonist, and it’s interesting.)
Already having thoughts and thoughts and thoughts about how this game will and will not end.  I will most definitely have to write them down at some point.
Confidants so far: Fool rank 4, Magician rank 3, Hierophant rank 3, Lovers rank 3, Chariot rank 4, Strength rank 1, Death rank 2, Moon rank 2.  I am holding out for Shiho to eventually come back and be our High Priestess.  Shiho is the most High Priestess.  I know the politician on the street corner is supposed to be Sun. We’re getting Yusuke and the gun-selling fence guy at some point soon (stupid guts), plus I assume both Makoto and Sae Nijima are going to be social links.  I’m going to guess Temperance for Yusuke, Emperor for Iwai the fence, Justice for Sae, and I genuinely can’t figure Makoto yet.  Maybe Tower.  She’d make a cool Tower.  We’ll see.

Persona 5 Arena (what I wish)
After seeing this video on YouTube, I’m inspired to write this. A made up trailer that tells the story of P5A, the gameplay, the features, even mini games and DLC. Well, here it is.
WARNING: May contain spoilers.
The trailer starts with a fade in of the Velvet Prison. The Phantom Thieves of Hearts walk out of a cell to find Lavenza standing near the desk. And sitting at the desk is not Igor, but a young woman who is dressed like Lavenza, but with more of a attendant vibe.
Lavenza: This is my older sister, Elizabeth, who also serves my master.
Elizabeth: A pleasure to make your acquaintance.
Elizabeth shakes Akira’s hand.
Elizabeth: I hear you take requests for heists. Because... I, myself, have a request to give you.
Elizabeth opens the Compendium to show a picture of Sho Minazuki.
The scene cuts to the Thieves in an empty train station. Akira holds up his phone to see the Navigator App. Everyone smiles as Ryuji talks.
Ryuji: This will be our biggest heist yet. So, you guys ready?
But just as Akira turns on the app, Morgana senses someone from behind. Everyone looks back to see... The Investigation Team!
Chie: What the?
Yusuke: No! You have to get out of here!
But they are too late and they enter the Palace.
Akira, as Joker, finds himself in the middle of the Palace version of Tokyo with his comrades nowhere in sight. He takes his mask off to wipe the sweat from his face. But as he looks forward, he sees a slightly shocked Yu staring at him.
Yu: Who are you?
The scene then shows Joker with his Persona, Arsene, getting rid of some Shadows that showed up.
Joker: I’m Joker, Leader of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. But have seen my face, so I guess I can tell you my true name. I’m Akira Kurusu. And you?
Yu summons his own Persona, Izanagi-no-Okami, which kills a group of Shadows that were sneaking up behind Joker. Joker looks back at Yu in surprise as Yu smiles.
Yu: Yu Narukami. Nice to meet you.
The scene then shows in-game footage of Joker and Yu running through the streets of Palace Tokyo, fighting Shadows with their weapons and Personas.
The next scene shows where the others are. Skull is with Yosuke, Panther is with Chie, Fox is with Yukiko, Queen is with Kanji, Oracle is with Rise, Noir is with Naoto, and Mona is with Teddie.
The next scene shows Skull smirking at Yosuke.
Skull: Ready for this?
The next scene shows Skull fighting Shadow Yosuke when suddenly, Skull leaps off screen and Yosuke jumps in and fights in Skull’s place.
The next scene shows Panther fighting some Shadows and Chie jumps in and they summon their Personas, Carmen and Haraedo-no-Okami, who combine their attacks and shoot a strong stream of water.
Another scene shows a huge stadium in Palace Tokyo. Inside, in the middle of a fighting ring, Show Minazuki is sitting on a throne in the dark, grinning and holding something in his hand, most likely his treasure.
In the next scene, Mitsuru , Fuuka , and Aigis, with their backs turned, are facing Cafe Leblanc in the real world.
An angry Junpei punches Iwai in the face.
A depressed Sojiro is about to hang himself in his cafe, but is stopped by Dojima.
Nanako, with bloodstains on the front of her clothes and tears streaming down her face, is running for her life and a mysterious figure chases her.
Aigis, Labrys, and Marie are standing on a building in front of a red moon.
In game fight, Aigis and Labrys fight Marie.
In game fight, Fox and Yukiko are fighting giant Shadow..
In game fight, Joker and Yu are fighting what appears to be Shadow Joker.
Anime scene, Yuuki is in the arena, pulling on a mask on his face. When it comes off, Tsukuyomi Picaro appears.
In game fight, Yuuki fights Sho.
Anime scene, in the Velvet Room, the Velvet Siblings and Igor are performing what looks like a big fusion with the guillotines. On the side, Yuuki is watching. A bright light appears at the guillotines.
Mini game scene, Ryuji and Kanji are sitting at a table in the cafe about to arm wrestle as Kanami’s voice shouts, “Test your strength!” It changes to Akihiko and Aigis arm wrestling.
Mini game scene, in the Velvet Room, Margret is sitting at the desk with cards on it as she says, “Test your wit.” The cards turn over. The scene changes to one of the cards flipped over. Suddenly, a card flips over and it matches the one that was already flipped.
Mini game scene, in the Shujin Academy track yard, Akira (in his Shujin jersey) and Chie (in her Yasogami jersey) are stretching as they prepare to race on the track as Kanami’s voice shouts, “Test your speed!” The scene changes to show Junpei sprinting against Teddie (also in a Yasogami jersey).
Game feature, inside the Toyo Cinemas theater where you can watch scenes from the game.
Game feature, in an art studio with Yusuke where you can view game art.

Yu: (voice over during this scene) Mitsuru san, you and the Operatives did a lot for us. Now we can return the favor.
Joker: (voice over) And you can count on us. We also have people to protect. Come, are next target... Nyx.
Persona 5 Arena
Morgana’s voice while the screen is black: I’m... I’m human.
Trailer ends.
Keep in mind, it hasn’t been confermed if there will be a P5A, so don’t get your hopes up.

There was no rest for the wicked, it seemed.
Only half of a year had passed, and the former Investigation Team already had something suspicious going on around them. Seeing them on TV was surprising enough, but it's the rumors of a cursed video surrounding the impending LMB Festival that truly caught his attention.
"If you go to the LMB Fest site at midnight you will see a video of a dead idol dancing". It sounded like a simple urban legend to someone unfamiliar with the supernatural. To him, however... Well, needless to day, it jogged a couple of memories. And the new cases of Apathy Syndrome popping up made him worried in addition to that.
So it was nothing short of a blessing when a word reached him about a strange portal opening up at Takura Productions during a photo shoot. Reserve or not, he was still part of the Shadow Operatives. And it was their job to investigate happenings like these, wasn't it? So it was his job as well. And if he had motives unrelated to work, well... It only made him want to get to the bottom of this more.
After getting to the TakuroPro building and scaring some staff with his badge, he happened to stumble upon someone he knew. Members of the Investigation Team were expected, but not this. No, what he got instead was probably worse. Puppy eyes and quiet incomprehension aside, few liked to be less qualified than someone half their age.
But one strained conversation with Dojima and a stern 'no' to Nanako later, he was all ready to go. Tomorrow, local library, Mashita Kanami. Chestnut hair, square glasses, plain clothes. Shouldn't be too hard.
And it wasn't. The library was almost dead when he got there — must’ve been too early for visitors. He quickly located the one he was looking for. She was sitting at an empty table, spacing out from the looks of it. Sliding into the seat opposite of her, he lightly tapped the table surface to catch her attention.
"Mashita Kanami? I know I'm not the one you were expecting today, but I'll be taking over for detective Dojima on this case."
