I feel like now, I no longer need to keep repeating what I feel like I’ve been saying since at least 2007, and definitely since moving back to Canada in 2014:

I wish I knew what we had to do to repudiate nationalistic racist, sexist, homophobic populism.  I wish I knew what was necessary to get a majority to be decent, instead of small-minded, ignorant, and foolish. 

A government without a platform is NEVER a good thing, no matter WHAT your ideology or values. It means one of two things, 

either:

1. They actually have no fucking plan, which I think is an obvious problem. Governance is hard. ONLY reacting to circumstances, rather than having criteria, plan As and Bs and Cs, principles for decision-making, etc. is like How To Be A Bad Leader 101. 

or

2. They have decision-making criteria, and plans, and principles, but they know they are just so repulsive to even the most ignorant of voters, that it’s better to just say nothing.

Who knows which it is, but now we’re gonna find out whether we want to or not.
