While most of you are praising the 'realistic' nature of Only Friends' ending, my issue isn't with the realism itself but with how the narrative was spun against Boston. YOU might have the media literacy to grasp that his ending is a realistic portrayal of how society treats promiscuous gay men.

But most people tend to agree with what they see. There might be insightful takes here on Tumblr, but the narrative's impact is evident when you go anywhere outside this platform.

Check out YouTube or Twitter, and you'll see what people are saying about Boston. You'll see everyone talking about how he deserved the ending he got. Even after everything, he remains the villain in the eyes of most viewers.

(This is drama talk btw - Only Friends ep 12)

THE FIRST FUCKING SCENE IS A THREESOME KISS ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! I don’t think Sand loves Boeing the way Ray is thinking though. I think Sand loves what he had Boeing but ultimately he’ll realize that what they had, they’ll never have again so his love for Boeing is that of past Boeing not current Boeing or even future Boeing where as with Ray - Sand loves the current Ray and the future Ray and loves what he has with Ray now. Sandray is end game anyway like they have to be.

How did I forget Boeing tried to get back with Top and then attempt to get with Mew 🤦🏻‍♀️ like Boeing doesn’t want Sand back because he still loves him - he wants Sand because he thinks Sand is easy to get with. He just wants something physical and is using the ex card to mess with Sand’s head. Ugh all the assholes just have to be hot don’t they?

I know others are going to say that Boston’s apology was half assed and that the group is going to let him back in too easily BUT I personally think the tone of his voice speaks louder than his apology. If you think about it; his tone isn’t the same as the other times he half assed an apology - it sounds more broken than it used to which indicates, to me, that it’s genuine. Plus, we all know that Boston has MEGA issues when it comes to actually showing emotions. He doesn’t like feeling vulnerable and weak in front of others so if you put that into consideration as well, I think the apology was genuine and he does really feel horrible about everything that has happened.

I love that Top is willing to give up his inheritance in order to start over with Mew - it shows just how dedicated Top is to Mew. I mean, who would actually give up their inheritance that gives them an easy life in order to start from the bottom and work their way back up with the person they love? Not many. Anything I ever said about Top has been thrown out, I actually do like Top now that we were given more of his story and see his true personality shining through.

It’s weird seeing Boston be so… domestic? Like, I was honestly expecting him to be more of the kind of boyfriend that is only caring and loving in private and is more like well an asshole when in public. You know, the way he has been in the past? Other than Ray, I think Boston had a lot of character development throughout the show - I never thought we’d see Boston like be all lovey with Nick like this. I am obsessed with this relationship though - I know Boston is scared of the future and just wants to live in the present but I love that Nick is giving Boston the idea that they could potentially stay together after Boston moves to New York.

Sand showing up to Ray’s social service after they got into a fight is honestly heart warming. It shows that he’s choosing Ray over Boeing because like I said before; he loves what he has with Ray now and he loves Ray in the present where as he loves what Boeing used to be. I love watching Sand and Ray with these kids! Like imagine them as parents?!?!?! UGH Ima need a season 2 where they adopt some children.

I am so glad Ray told Sand what he knows about Boeing going after Top first! Sand may think he loves Boeing still but AGAIN he loves what they had and once he realizes that Boeing just wants some physical attention from someone and not Sand in general - Sand will realize exactly what I just said. Facts are facts and Sand loves Ray more than he ever loved Boeing. Period.

I honestly would love to see Top become friends with Ray and Sand - I feel like him and Ray could have some similarities in terms of substance use and with Top and Sand, I feel like they’re both hopeless romantics that could spend hours talking about plans they have for Mew and Ray.

The way Sand looks at Ray while he’s going off about how he enjoys listening to music with him with their arms wrapped around each other - yeah Sand is in love with Ray and Boeing is totally out of the picture. Oop, Mew is here too is he? When he pull up you know it’s a show down (I’m sorry). But for real, I am so glad Mew came to back up Ray on this issue and finally kick Boeing to the curb.

DOG? OWNER?

Ima need someone to write a fanfic where Ray tops Sand and has him wear a dog collar and obey his every command like right the fuck now! Imagine how hot that would be?!?!?!

I digress…

Ray: All I do is win win win no matter what

This communication though with Top and Mew?! YES!!! We love healthy communication in this house - talking about their faults and letting each other know what irritates them is just beautiful. This is what true love is about man, like if my future partner and I don’t do this - then forget the relationship!

Awe Nick and Boston making out in the club as they slow dance is absolutely adorable! I love the idea of being kissed on the dance floor, like it’s just so romantic in my eyes. Boston honestly would make a great boyfriend if he could only allow himself to show more emotions to others. Right now I think he’s trying his best for Nick’s sake but that’s just it - he’s doing it for Nick and not for them as a couple.

Boeing….

Of course. Boston just had to go and make out with Boeing while he’s supposed to be Nick’s boyfriend. Yup, I figured Nick would catch them too. I predict that Nick is going to end this with Boston long before he leaves for New York - at the end of the day Nick is going to see that he truly isn’t ever going to be the one and only for Boston despite Boston telling him otherwise. Boston honestly needs to like, go to convent of women and heal himself from what ever is making him like this before he can even think about having a true relationship with anyone.

YOU GO NICK! I am so glad that Nick is speaking his feelings, he wants to be the exclusive person in Boston’s life where Boston just wants Nick to be the emotions but still wants others for the physical things because he can’t just commit to one person and one person only. Honestly, as much as I was hoping for Nick and Boston to be end game at first - I hope they aren’t because like Sand said; Nick deserves so much better than Boston and he can do so much better. Like, can we make Nick and Dan end game instead?

SEE? Boston knows how to apologize. I think that talk with Nick really helped Boston see that if he doesn’t allow himself to feel his emotions than he’s never going to heal and become a better person. Mew is also forcing him to realize this by telling him that just changing himself on the outside won’t change anything inside. I hope Boston really marinates on that and realizes that he’s never going to truly be happy until he changes himself inside.

Ooh truth or dare? I’m nervous about this ngl.

MEW SIR!!! Daring Sand to kiss Top?! You cheeky little boy. Never did I think I would be watching Sand kiss three different people in one episode but yet here we are like what?!?!? First is just adding more and more people to his list of actors he’s kissed and honestly I’m here for it. I will legit pass away if we witness Sand kiss anyone else though like imagine he kisses Boston or Mew next? Honestly, get it First!

I genuinely feel bad for Boston, you can tell that now he’s really reflecting on his choices and regretting nearly all of them. He’s seeing the consequences of his actions - which he should - but it’s really making him think about how much of a shitty person he’s been in the past. I personally just hope he doesn’t do what Ray did and just mask his problems with alcohol. I do really want him to heal and improve his life. Especially after the scene with Nick, like I just feel like Boston really needs to find himself and learn from his mistakes. It’s heart breaking a little because you can tell that he was really starting to fall for Nick despite knowing that he’s not quite ready to commit.

I would like to know more about what happened with Top when he was a child, like he’s clearly scared of fires so like I need an explanation.

Sand and Ray are absolutely adorable, I love them so much. I need a whole season of nothing but them being all cute and loving while they attend all those music festivals. I also need a scene where they both say ‘I love you’ to each other. Like I just need more of my babies.

*sobs*

It’s over. I am big sad now.

I will say that the show was honestly incredible and probably one of the best I’ve seen. There was so much going on but it never felt confusing or rushed. I also loved all of the character development and the storyline in general. Now that it’s over though, I will be hiding in my blanket fort, eating Dino nuggies and sobbing about the show being over.

Hank, Sanford and Deimos with a Reader who does Handcrafts

Gonna post my old MadCom stuff since people seem interested in it! I didn't write too much back then, but I'll post it anyway and hope for some MadCom requests as well! What the title says! Reader knits, crochets and embroiders in this! The format is different from how I usually write, but that's because I wrote this months ago, if not in 2022! I don't remember when, but it's been a while since I wrote this!

Hank

If you get his attention while doing one of your crafts, expect him to just stare at you for a while. He knows what knitting is, since you can use those needles to stab someone with enough force, but he never really cared much for any of it. So, seeing you do those small, but precise movements has him somewhat curious. If you beckon him closer to check out what you’re doing, he will approach you, taking your piece from your hands and gently examining it, before returning it to you.

While he won’t join you that often due to his occupation, Hank will lie down next to you from time to time, watching you work until he falls asleep eventually. Doing so next to you, especially when you’re knitting or doing embroidery, takes a lot of trust on his behalf, so it’s a rather rare occurrence, but it might happen. Still, sometimes even Nevada’s most wanted can’t resist getting some sleep in.

If you give him a scarf or anything of the likes it might seem like he doesn’t like it at first. As he only grunts in acknowledgement and doesn’t wear it, it might seem disheartening at first glance. But rest assured, he’s well aware that him wearing it would only get it covered in blood, and he wouldn’t want your creation, that you put so much love into, to get sullied like that. Hank does keep it somewhere hidden where only he can find it so that it won’t get stolen as well, he truly does treasure anything you give him.

Sanford

He has helped his mother crocheting every once in a while when he was young by holding her wool for her. Sanford always thought it to be really cool how you can make something so beautiful out of something as simple as wool and yarn. Much like he did when he was younger, he’ll hold your yarn for you, making it more comfortable to knit or crochet for you. Unlike Hank and Deimos, he will try to learn it as well. It seems relaxing, so why not? But by no means is he a master. Due to his strength, he will likely rip the yarn and wool apart from time to time and come to you for help.

In order to relax and unwind a bit, he’ll likely come to you and ask if you would like to practise your craft for and with him. Having you around in and of itself already makes Sanford happy, but just getting to spend time with you without having to worry about being killed by the enemy makes it all the better. If you let him, he will hold you close, lean into you, put you on his lap, anything you’re comfortable with.

Please give him a sweater. Because he’s never wearing a shirt he gets cold fairly easily. He’ll cherish it dearly and wear it whenever he can, and whenever he knows it won’t get ripped. Another thing he’d be very happy with would be a piece of embroidery. It reminds him of better times and gives him hope, especially when your piece of art is something pleasant and sweet to look at. Because of that, he will put it up somewhere in his room where he can always see it. Even if Deimos makes fun of him for it, he will simply lightly jab at the smoker, all the while smiling at it.

Deimos

He’ll lovingly call you a grandma for having hobbies like these. Even while doing embroidery, where you stab things thousands of times, he will snicker at you whenever he catches you doing any of these things. Though, he doesn’t mind that sort of thing at all since that means you’ll be sitting still for a while, meaning you’ll give him a chance to unwind with him. Deimos will wrap his arms around you, leaning onto you or just cuddle into you in general. No fighting, no getting hurt, just watching you do the same movements over and over again.

Despite possibly calling you boring, he does have great respect for your craft, since he can’t do any of it. It’s too tedious and he can’t sit around for long enough doing something like this. It’s simply not exciting enough. But the moment you give him his first sweater, he will think it’s the most awesome thing to ever exist. Proud as a peacock, he will flaunt and taunt his new piece of clothing, especially to Sanford and Hank, declaring just what a great lover he has.

Present him with a plushie and his mind will be blown. He always thought knitting and crocheting are just for woolly hats and sweaters and scarves and all. If he sees you made him a tiny grunt, he will simply lose it, run around the Status Quo base and show everyone what you’re capable of. It doesn’t even matter to him whether or not it looks good. Your hands are magical to him and absolutely everyone has to know just how cool and epic you are.

Kinda proud of how composed and upfront Ray is about this. I'm sure he'll start lashing out more, but at least he's very direct to Sand about how it makes him uncomfortable. One thing in shows that makes me so frustrated is when someone is obviously uncomfortable with something but they lie and say it's fine. It's a common way of dragging out a conflict. At least Ray is leaving nothing up to question.

Is Boston undeserving of love?

No. Out of all my long list of things I hated about what they did to Boston and Nick this felt like the most personal blow. Every time I think about this I want to cry. So… let’s get personal because I need to.

Nick telling Boston he’s better off alone and that Boston can’t ever change is… Fucked up. Nick knows Boston was crying to him ep10 that he didn’t want to hurt people. Boston wanted to change. Boston wanted to trust Nick. But now Boston should be alone without Nick. Story time I have believed for a long time I should be alone. I hurt my friends and family. I don’t mean to. I have mental health struggles. I have depression adhd avoidant personality and severe panic disorder. I believe everyone can and should leave me. Everyone would be better without my existence. But I.. can combat these thoughts with well… someone still wants me around. I’ll try to protect them by holding them back as much as I can… but if they are happy and keep talking to me… what can I do but be here? It’d be an insult to them to give up. If someone told me… what Nick told Boston that would be the End. Period. That I could never change? That I should just be alone and be me? When I hate me? When I know me hurts the ones I love. When the me I know has lost the only person who saw me? Especially after Ray Mew and Cheum rejected me and pushed me down a hill. I won’t be going to New York. But no one would see me again. Because if the one person who I trusted can’t even stomach to be my friend what’s the point? I guess as an audience we are supposed to forget the roof top scene where Boston says what he is really feeling. I’ll remind you.

So…. Yeah I just… want to hug Boston and tell him… he’s worthy of people even if he can’t see it right now. He can always change. Nick might not be the right guy but he can still change for the better if that’s what he wants to do. I believe in him. Boston did make a lot of progress. I’ve talked about it before but every conflict Boston grew from it. He can do it. I just wish Nick was at his side virtually or physically as his friend or lover either one would have been better than this.

Thoughts on Boston's ending in Only Friends

I've finally managed to articulate my thoughts into a more coherent stream of words, because I was so fucking upset about the last OF episode I didn't even want to engage. But now I just feel like word-vomitting about everything that pissed me off about Boston's storyline in the last episode.

The Boston-Boeing arc

We know that monogamy isn't Boston's thing, which is perfectly fine, you go king! But that kiss was so poorly timed, out of character, and just an unnecessary plot device to give Nick a sudden moment of clarity.

Boston has always been open and honest about his non-monogamous nature, even during their friends-with-benefits phase. So why NOW would he say one thing and do another? He told Nick in the last episode that he'd only sleep with him from now on, not that he's the only one he'd love, THE ONLY ONE HE'D SLEEP WITH. Why would he say that if he didn't intend to do it?

We knew he genuinely started to love Nick. So, why would he kiss someone else after promising Nick that he only wanted to be with him? Why would he LIE and hurt the person who loves him, especially after all the character development he'd undergone? Especially after realising he doesn't want to hurt the people he loves?

If Boston wanted an open relationship with Nick, he would have communicated that, as he ALWAYS did. He wouldn't have been unfaithful and started making out with a random guy at the bar 5 seconds after being all lovey & romantic with Nick.

Like he didn't even WAVER before making the moves on Boeing which doesn't make sense at all. Because even with Atom, he showed reluctance in the beginning, but he didn't even wait to THINK before seducing Boeing, while his boyfriend was waiting for him 10ft away? That scene just felt like it was written to undo all of Boston's growth in the last few eps & justify giving him a shit ending.

The arc with his (ex) friend group

First of all, FUCK CHEUM, all my homies hate Cheum! I absolutely hate that the narrative turned Cheum into this unproblematic peacemaking fairy who could solve all problems with a swish of her wand, when in fact, she's the worst type of friend.

Her apology to Boston was half-assed at best, given the SEVERITY of the allegations her stupid excuse of a brother made against him. Boston was falsely accused of RAPE, and had an anon acc exposing him of the same & NOBODY APOLOGIZED TO HIM FOR BELIEVING IN IT?

Cheum was portrayed as a generous forgiving figure for inviting Boston to the New Year's party for RECONCILIATION but actually all she did was force him into apologizing for all his wrongdoings without getting a single apology in return.

Boston apologized to Ray for filming him and Mew kissing, but no one apologized to Boston for spreading his nonconsensual sextape, threats of revenge porn, and the constant slut-shaming. How come none of THEIR wrongdoings against Boston were condemned?

When Boston expressed that moving to New York might change him, they were like changing his surroundings wasn't enough; he needed to change his inner self. NO FUCK YOU, I think it would significantly benefit him to change his surroundings and the PEOPLE he associates with. Like maybe finding a genuine group of friends would actually heal him, you self-righteous fuckers.

Like okay, Mew's reluctance to forgive Boston is understandable (even though his air of moral superiority pisses me off), but he's not been a good friend to Boston either.

And the others acted all holier-than-thou, despite having done terrible shit themselves. No one showed real concern for Boston's move to New York & nobody asked if he's okay, given how miserable he looked throughout the party.

Boston's final ending

Oh, his ending was SHIT. Like fine, Nick's decision to break up with Boston due to their differing desires for an open relationship versus monogamy was reasonable. Like yes, it broke my BostonNick heart to pieces, but it makes sense they didn't work out cause they wanted different things. I'm glad Nick chose his OWN desires over Boston's.

BUT, Nick telling Boston that a guy like him should roll alone was so unnecessary and contradictory to everything he's stood up for throughout the show. He's always understood Boston like nobody else, told him that he's not a bad guy & what not? Heck, Nick was the one who made Boston realize he wanted to be loved, but now he's leading Boston to believe that he should be alone?

Boston doesn't want to be ALONE; he needs & craves love, but also values the freedom to have sexual experiences outside a romantic relationship.

Perhaps NICK couldn't provide that, which is okay, but it doesn't mean Boston should just stay alone? It felt like the show suggested that if you're a 'slut', you don't deserve love.

And my last straw was the last shot of Boston alone, abandoned on a sidewalk, a HUGE contrast to all the lovely happy endings of other characters.

Boston was left friendless, boyfriendless, degreeless, and also with zero respect, solely because he was a promiscuous gay man.

Everyone else got redemption, forgiveness, and a seemingly happily ever after. But Boston?

So yeah, fuck this show, and FUCK any possibilities of a season 2. I'm so over it already.

I never expected to cry watching Only Friends. But Ray and Sand made me cry. That apartment scene tore my heart apart and stomped on it and left me half dead. But the therapy scene finished me. Khao really understood what it means to be addicted to something. The way he portrayed the outbreak, the helplessness and hopelessness was just pouring out of him and he knew that he had done wrong by Sand. All the anger, hurt, sorrow and misery just came boiling out until there was nothing left. He threw himself into Sand's arms hoping that at least Sand would understand him even after accusing him of doing it all for money.

I can never get over how good of an actor Khao is. The despair in his eyes when he confronted Sand and the misery in his whole being when he went back to therapy was one of the best scenes I've ever seen hands down, in all media.

I'll never get over the dynamic First and Khao have because the way they bounce off of each other is phenomenal. And that was on full display today.
