The fact that Netflix had Blue Eye Samurai and Onimusha in the same weekend and didn't bother to really promote the former and let the video game people promote the latter is an example of blown ad potential. Now Blue-Eye Samurai is stuck with word of mouth and arguments over stuff not in the action show. You couldn't have had the writers sit down and discuss samurai movies? Or better yet, have the writers sit down with Takashi Miike and discuss samurai movies? You don't think that the people who made BES were at least half-aware of Blade of the Immortal?
It's a double shame since most of the commentary about BES is positive and Onimusha is surprisingly well done thanks to Miike's direction. But while Onimusha seemed to have made something of a blip, BES doesn't seem to have made much outside of those arguments.

since it's not on letterboxd yet, I just thought I'd use this to say that Onimusha might be the best thing Miike has worked on since Blade of the Immortal and is an absolutely fucking stellar anime with the perfect balance between kinetic hyper stylized violence and heart ripping emotional resonance
