Remembering silent film actress, screenwriter and playwright, OLGA PETROVA, today on her birthday.
Born Muriel Harding in England, she moved to the States and began acting in vaudeville and on Broadway under her stage name.
Petrova’s Broadway resume, as a performer and writer, includes:
* “The Quaker Girl”, 1911/12; 248 performances, at the Park Theatre (demolished 1954), and the Grand Opera House (demolished 1960). Petrova was a performer.
* “Panthea”, 1914; 80 performances, at the Booth Theatre (still open). Petrova was a performer.
* “The White Peacock”, 1921/22; 102 performances, at the Comedy Theatre (demolished 1942). Petrova was a performer, and the playwright.
* “Hurricane”, 1923/24; 125 performances, at the Frolic Theatre (gutted 1983). Petrova was a performer, and the playwright.
* “What Do We Know?”, 1927/28; 23 performances, at Wallack’s Theatre (demolished 1997). Petrova was a performer, and the playwright.
Her silent films, are mostly now lost. Between 1915-1918, Petrova made almost 30 films for both Solax Studios and Metro Pictures, before retiring in 1918.
In the early 1900s, the small village of Saranac Lake, NY, began to attract artists and entertainers. In 1921, Olga Petrova visited, and participated in a ceremonial shovel-turning for a large housing project. In appreciation, the town named a street and a school after her. The Petrova Elementary School is still operational today.
Olga Petrova died in Florida in 1977 at age 93.

The White Peacock del 1922, Hurricane dramma rappresentato per la prima volta l’anno successivo e What Do We Know? del 1927.

I'm sorry, but I was trying to save my mother's life, and I failed, so if you don't mind, I'd like to sit here and grieve in peace.
