Mata Hari
"I am ready". Mata Hari faced a firing squad for spying — and refused a blindfold.
Legend has it that as the officers drew their weapons, Mata Hari blew a kiss to her executioners.
Then they fired.
Unbound. No blind fold. A defiant kiss. All seem to mock the authority of the French over her. She denied their authority while alive and would do so in death.
For the past 100 years, Mata Hari has been revered as the ultimate femme fatale — the seductive, glamorous exotic dancer who spied for the Germans during World War I and caused the deaths of thousands of Allied soldiers. She captured the imaginations of people around the world long after she met her fate.
"A harlot? Yes, but a traitoress, never!"
— Phrase attributed to Mata Hari during her trial

I did this colourization of what I assume is a mother and her 2 daughters. The woman in the centre is wearing zar (robe) and peča (black face veil). The girls are wearing bošča (shawls). The picture was taken in Bosnia sometime between 1918 and 1950.

This new colorization from Clayton Hickman —
— sparked curiosity in me, since he generally tries very hard to ensure that all colors are accurate to the original, but I’ve never seen official confirmation on the color of Susan’s shirt, so it made me wonder whether he had to make an estimate based on the gray tones and what color it was likely to translate to or if he had an inside awareness of what it really was, since I’ve seen him say on a Galaxy 4 colorization that he fact checked everything with Peter Purves and he easily may have gotten information from Carole for this as well. Had to ask and got a pretty immediate reply.
Oh my gosh. Apparently said interview has gone completely under my radar for the entire 11 years I’ve been in the Classic Who fandom, because I’ve never been able to find a source for the true colors of the original shirt. After so many years of mystery surrounding the color of this shirt, after so many years of seeing different colorizations that are never in harmony, finally an answer! It’s not the color I’ve always imagined it was, but oh my goodness. To actually have the truth is mind-boggling.
