Well, This Is Awkward

Summary: Lyla walks in on something she didn’t expect to see.

Note: Hi!  This just randomly popped in my head whilst thinking about Upstead. (I read it after originally posting [if that makes sense 😭] and edited it slightly but yeah anyway) I’m working on some more scenarios, idk if you really care but oh well if you do you know now lol.

     “What did you guys do?”  Will inquired on the other line, Lyla struggling to control her laughter.

     He was referring to the prank Lyla and Mia pulled on Dante, and it was pretty funny.

     “Just tell me!”  Will whined, Lyla trying to suppress her laughter.

     “O-Okay.”  Lyla cleared her throat, taking a sip of her water before speaking, “We might’ve made all of his shirts pink.”

     “Lyla!”  Will exclaimed, Lyla bursting into laughter.

     Lyla calmed down once again, making her way to the front door, “Hey, at least he won’t look homeless anymore!”

     “You have a good point.”  Lyla smiled in pride at herself as Will continued, “How did he react?”

     “He was pissed.”  Lyla put her phone between her ear and her shoulder as she opened the door, taking another sip of her water as she stepped inside.

     Lyla’s eyes went wide with surprise as she began to choke on her water, shocked at the sight in front of her.

     She knew Jay and Hailey had to have had feelings for each other, sure.  What she didn’t expect was to witness a makeout session on the couch in the living room.  No, she was not expecting that at all.

     Lyla finally stopped choking, Jay and Hailey looking at her, embarrassment on their faces.

     “Well,”  Lyla chuckled nervously, clearing her throat, “This is awkward.”

     “What’s awkward?”  Will inquired from the other line.

     “Shut up Will.”  Lyla muttered, closing the door behind her.

     She made her way across the house before turning around and walking backwards.  She pointed to the stairs, “I’m gonna be in my room if you need me but uh, you guys seem pretty busy.”  

     “Lyla-”  Jay started, trailing off at the end.

     Lyla turned on her heels, running up the stairs, “Bye!”

     Jay groaned in embarrassment as Lyla shut her door, making her way to her desk as she tried to get those images out of her head.

     “What’s awkward?”  Will asked, curiosity in his voice.

     “Can you and I do something tonight?”  Lyla suggested, ignoring the question.

     “Sure.  Do you want me to see if Jay-”

     “He’s a little busy at the moment.”

     “What- what does that mean?”

     Lyla sighed dramatically, “I think I’m gonna be scarred for life.”

     “You’ll be fine.”

     Lyla chuckled, “Yeah, I totally didn’t just see my brother and his partner half naked on the couch.” 

     Will’s eyes widened as he parked his car, “Actually?!”

     “No, I’m making it up.”  Lyla replied sarcastically, “At least there’s one thing I can say.”

     Will sighed, knowing exactly what Lyla was going to say, “What are you gonna say?”

     “I told you so!”

     “Yeah yeah.  I’m outside.” 

     “Okay.  I’m going through the back though.”

     “Good idea.”

     Lyla rolled her eyes, standing up from her chair and grabbing a hoodie as she hung up the phone.  As she made her way downstairs and to the back door, she got a notification.

     She pressed it, snickering as she read the text message from Jay.

     “Don’t tell Will.”  

     “Too late.”  Lyla hit the send button, pocketing her phone as she made her way outside.

     “Finally.”  Lyla thought as she made her way to Will’s car, glad that her brother and his partner were finally more than what Jay described as ‘really good friends.’

love burzek is engaged now & in their casual kisses era but otherwise this season has been disappointing. gwen got my hopes up saying there will be heavy burzek in ep 2 & 3 but there really wasnt? she lies too much. she lied about upstead being ok. she lied about this. i was expecting to get more burzek s2/s3 scenes especially s2. more makeout scenes, sex scenes, morning after scenes, pda, kissing in locker rooms, cheek kisses, hand kisses, hand holding, being a couple. so far all we got 2 pecks on the lip & engagement. & for the proposal there was no ily. mind u we have not heard them say ily since s2! where is the burzek that used to make out in locker room & kitchen? where is the flirting? where are them going on dates, cuddling on the couch or in bed, cooking together? we see too much of parent burzek not enough couple burzek. i want to see couple burzek more than parent burzek. sorry idgaf about mack. she annoys me. ik this is procedural but they give us most these before & there are other procedurals that manage to give us all this & more. ik this is only 3rd episode & normally on other shows it wouldnt bother me vm. eg if they were on fire or med i wouldnt care bc on those show is “oh we didnt get anything in ep 1-3? thats ok theres still 4-13 left” but pd is diff uk b/c of their 1 character or 1 ship focus format everyone hates. we are not getting any burzek moments until next adam kim ep. since this season is only 13 ep that maybe means we are only getting 2 more adam kim ep. 2 more chances of getting good burzek content. all the things i want & im sorry but thats not enough. idt im going to get everything i want in only 2 ep.  + marina isnt in next ep. b/c of budget cuts they are all going to have to miss some ep. idu why they are only giving small pecks like this is covid season. i bet it is reem’s doing. she seem like very manipulative and jealous girl. i bet she is jealous of paddy and marina chemistry and begged gwen to not make them do more than few innocent kisses. this happened with actors on another show. then there is always fear of it being their last season. ik mar said shes staying & im happy she wants to stay but that doesnt mean she cant get fired b/c of budget cuts, etc. same w/ paddy. he could get fired or wdk if he want to leave next season. what if what happened w/ brettsey happen w/ burzek where brettsey got together end of s9 only for matt to leave in s10? upstead barely got any moments after they became couple & then none at all after marriage until their goodbye kiss in 10x3 now burzek same so after burzek get married we are maybe going to get less burzek content than we are even if both stay.

I desperately need a forehead or side of the head kiss. It’s one of the sweeter moments we haven’t gotten to see and I think the content of 9x09 will be a great setup for it…also, their height difference is out of this world perfection and I don’t know why the writers don’t take advantage of it.

s9 wish list

A reinvention of s7. Eye conversations, their formidable, badass partnership, with a sprinkling of s8 UpStead love.  A morning makeout interrupted by an urgent call to a crime scene, only to finish the day, crashing through the door, impatient to finish what they couldn’t earlier.

A scene where Jay is worked up, angry, impatient and frustrated and Hailey being there for him, without words, but love. Jay sat on the end of the bed, unable to relax, but Hailey dressed in just a robe, takes his gun, badges and jacket and puts it away. Then returns, pushing him back on the bed. ‘‘We cannot always have words or answers, but our thing has always been more than that’ she smiles, kissing him and let’s the robe fall away.

They need to address things with Voight.

More girl undercover missions, Burgess and Upton. Sorry seeing, Adam, Jay and Kevin in the Van, has me giggling... Priceless❣️ Reform and what that means to each person in the unit. Voight and Adam might struggle with this the most. Upton will come full circle especially after the shakeup she had at the end of s8 and come back to us. Jay will make sure she is better, because love can be powerful.

Family. Is not defined by traditional means in today’s age. Kim, Adam and Makayla are family. But it would be nice to see Will, Jay and Hailey. And what about a story of a call coming in from Greek town and Jay and Voight face off with Haileys Dad and rescue her mom.

My prompts/taking requests section is currently open, so if you have one you would like me to write, just send it over in my asks! <3

Rules

Like many things, there are a few rules and other things I would appreciate if you kept in mind before requesting a fic so please read all these before submitting one :)

1. I am open to whatever genre (angst/fluff etc.) and style (first person/third person) of writing. However remember that unless asked for different in the ask, all fics will be written in third person. 

2. I am open to somewhat NSFW prompts but keep in mind the farthest I can write is what we see in the shows, some removal of clothes but then it will cut to black as I am not comfortable writing anything more than that - at least not yet, I am trying to get there but it is a slow process. Please also consider the fact I often write from experience or passion in a subject, and as a 16 year old I have neither passion for or experience in the NSFW area, so a steamy makeout session is all I can write - not that I have experience in that either xD

3. If I sense a hint of bashing toward another ship in your prompt I will just delete the ask and move on because whether the prompt is done anonymously or not I will be the one to take the fallout of the fic and I try to keep my account as bash-free as possible. 

4. Let’s keep it just upstead for the time being. It does take me a while to get into the groove of writing a new ship - I’ve been writing upstead for almost a year now and I’m still getting used to it - and I’d rather be able to keep these prompts coming out for you guys without all the settling in to a new one. However I am very open to including other ships as side characters/ships in a fic, just not as the main relationship.  Other ships I am willing to side-write for are: manstead, burzek, stellaride, mallo, dawsey (if you can somehow work that into the prompt) and maybe even a little plouch. The ships that have not been mentioned from all the shows I will not write because plainly, I don’t ship them. Simple as. 

5. All requests given will be written as oneshots, to make it fair. If one becomes longer than 6k words (as that may happen) it may be spilt evenly into a two-shot, but I will not write an entire fic. If you would like an entire fic, feel free to message me on wattpad (@/h_i_234) with your idea. Just keep in mind though I will only write it if I really like the idea as longer multi-chapter fics do take a while to write, time I do not have much of anymore, and if I do like the idea you may get quite a few questions to answer so I can get a better feel of it. 

6. I promise to try and write all requests given within a week of getting the ask, but I can’t guarantee that. As I stated before I do not have a lot of time going forward and writing does take time, especially if I like the idea/prompt. If it takes longer than a week I apologize, it may be the case of it being a longer one or I haven’t had time to write. However I will not tolerate repetitive messages asking when it will be published. If you ask more than three times for the fic after the week has passed, your prompt will be moved to the bottom of the list. 

If I don’t receive any prompts, let’s just agree this never happened

Sorry guys I am just having a moment.....

This is the best fandom and best ship EVER. Some fandoms wait years for a hand brush or flirty glance. I know upstead has been a “slow burn” but I love that it wasn’t a trope-y and drawn out flirting. I love that they built up mutual respect, admiration and dependability and then just WENT for it and are totally in love.

Look at all we have gotten in a shortened season AND during a pandemic where they could have decided to avoid all of this!!! Confession, kiss, hot domesticity, emotional sharing, banter, standing by each other and now a date and truckstead hot makeout. I love this ship! I love this show!!

Attempting to calm myself

So...every week we have spiraled about upstead this season....and every single time they have delivered...AND THEN SOME! We got a kiss, morning after makeout, flirting, humor, cuddles, domesticity, deep love confessions, a date, bullpen touching, adult convos, hand holding.....

Do we really think they will do us dirty in the finale and break up our babies either as partners or as a couple? Do you?

I‘m dyyyyyyying for an upstead shower scene where they make out... ooooof that would 🔥 but imagine Hailey crying under the shower (maybe bc of her family/ dad) and Jay hugging and holding her 🥺

Ugh you and me both my friend! I mean what is the point of building Hailey an apartment with a gorgeous bathroom if we do not get at least one shower makeout scene (although if they want to give us more I would totally be okay with that)

Oh but that second scene…I thought about it and it makes my heart want to explode 😍😍I can totally see Jay being all soft and comforting and just holding her in the show while she cries. I also would also very much like to see the reversal of that seen, where Hailey holds him and comforts him when he is struggling

In conclusion, I think we deserve several different shower scenes 😏🥰
