#iasip#mac macdonald#s3e11 dennis looks like a registered sex offender#just rewatched this episode. god it's so good definitely in my top 10 overall in the show#the dinner scene my forever beloved i hold you close to my heart. it's so insanely satisfying from a writing perspective.#the way it all ties together and even though it's a scene about a dinner being fucking ruined and its got these#relatively high emotional stakes its so so. neatly written that it ends up feeling cathartic? in a way#idk what im saying man that scene's just really good#something about mac and charlie's scheme and motivations clashing with their parents' (and franks)#and them being kind of forced to reckon with the fact that their parents are real people with their owns wants and needs#(especially mac charlie ends up using this to his advantage and kind of betraying mac ig)#also a scene that emotional ending with a shot of charlie going Ohh and the seed has been planted is wild.#also mac being so worried about the fact that the vibe might be off... DO YOU WANT FLAT AMBIANCE???#he just wants things to be normal!! he just wants a normal nice dinner party and normal parents who are together and happy and love eo!!#also there's a motif that shows up repeatedly of him wanting to seem like a good dinner host lol just kind of noticed that idk#maybe reading into this too much but god the theme of him so often being in denial of reality in order to#live up to certain societal standards and achieve normalness.#this is kind of the first (and imo one of the best) episodes with a plot line about mac's relationships with his parents#and their family dynamic in general which i find so so fascinating.#also i think this is the only time (except for the christmas video) where we see mac's parents together.#on a lighter note ig the dinner scene has so many other great quotes... charlies so funny in it#the man doesnt blink mom the man doesnt blink!!#the charmac in this episode was so excellent in general. the car scene where they freak out and become convinced luthers going to kill them.#YOU DONT DO THAT! From the moment Yui entered your room late at night, you knew something seemed off about her. It wasn't like her to become this brazen overnight. Intrigued, you were going to give a remark but was suddenly interrupted when Yui jumped into your arms and shoved her face into your chest. Taken back by what has just happened, you feel wet spots on your chest.
"I miss him," cried Yui as she spelt out those three words almost in a whisper. "My father."
“Don’t cry, Yui. I understand the loss of a parent can destroy you instantly, starting from the inside until finally you can no longer contain yourself. The relationship you once shared with your father had both its morose and joyous moments, I’m certain, but remember how the two of us met. It was all thanks to your father’s absence in the first place,” slowly he welcomed her into his arms. “In other words, what I’m trying to say is that sometimes we must separate from our family to grow as people. Humans live on finite time, that is simply a realization with which we must learn to agree and cope. If he truly cared for you as often as you claim he did, then he would hate to see you shed tears over his passing.”
Stifled sobs, lachrymal stains upon the silk of his shirt, champagne curls messily entangled with the Vampire’s fingers, Ruki reciprocated her embrace with cathartic circles caressed into the small of her back, exhaling deeply as accursed memories resurfaced. Dire circumstances poisoned his mind, from his father pushed off the precipice of depression and his mother who long fled. For Yui’s sake, he threw that tragedy to the wind. Bodies melded together like a rose apricating in the sun’s warm wake, usually he would have considered a human weeping in his arms nothing more than a thorn in his side, stinging with trauma immemorial. However, he likened Yui to someone beyond a mere human, someone beyond a beloved one. A sweet seraph, illuminating the dark with her hope, it pained Ruki to genuinely see her overwhelmed with bereavement. Planting a cold palm against her florid pallor, the Vampire gazed intently into her refulgent rubellites teemed with the pearls of sorrow.
“You are my one and only Eve. Or at least, you were. Now you’re the Yui I’ve come to cherish. The Yui I’m eternally grateful who hasn’t experienced a life of solitude; lost and abandoned. Your father may no longer tread this earth but if it’s any consolation, you’ve found a new family. My brothers and I will always be here for you—especially me. You won’t ever have to be alone again, for I shall continue to love every single part of you.”
Narrowed tempests, countenance encroaching, and lashes fluttered shut like the wings of a bat, Ruki captured her lips with his. A kiss to silence her lugubrious bellows; a kiss to erase the agony; a kiss to swallow her worries whole. With each press, each dilatory cage of his arm snaked around her waist, he didn’t want to lose his mortal lover the way she lost her own parent, as shown by his possessive albeit protective kiss in hopes of comforting her. If he could shoulder the burden, and thus ease her pain, then Ruki would hold her always without complaint. Joining in an intimate union, just like this kiss, if it meant seeing her effulgent smile again.
“I love you, Yui. Come what may, even if the end of time approaches us, we’ll always be together. Whether we are alive, whether we are dead, I intend to meet you in every realm of existence possible… because we are inseparable. Sleep here with me tonight if it will make you feel safe. Just know that you can always rely on me, is that understood? Not just as your master, but as your family. And I don’t mean in the kindred sense of it… I intend to start our own family together with you someday. As husband and wife. So until that day comes, don’t cry, Yui.”

"He should've been here..." Node's murmur filled the clearing, just beyond the bush's inner edge. Cream-yellow ears twitched, hazel hues dashing from one empty patch of grass to another. Their anti-gravity skates pushed down the grass with each step, the night's dew gathering in droplets on the soles. The moonlight was barely able to get through, here- making it impossible to ignore the blazing light.
Their hands slowly rose to their head, pushing down as if they could squeeze the fear out of their thoughts. Where was he? He wasn't here,-
"NODE!" They didn't have enough time to react before they were slammed to the ground, encased in bulky, furry limbs. "Thank Chaos,- you've been getting faster on those skates!" His laugh had tears brimming in Node's eyes. They buried their face in his chest, powdery-blue fur brushing against their nose. They didn't even care that it tickled as they wrapped their smaller arms around whatever they could reach- pulling Bless close in a hug as they shook.
"Oh my God,- Sonic..." They whimpered. A bright green light was in their vision- burning through their closed lids. He'd been hit, too.
"I'm fine- didn't even feel a thing." Bless was quick to reassure, slowly standing up with Node still in his arms. He chuckled quietly as he set them down. "...you're all wet, Nodesy." He retracted his hands- only to be met with watery blood. The werehog's eyes flashed towards Node. "...what happened?" And yet, he spotted that light- a different color from his own, but blazing in Node's chest, only barely dimmed by their dark tank-top.
"I'd guess the same thing that happened to you..." Their hand pressed into the center of the ring on their boyfriend's chest. Two rings... Two lights from the sky. "...I can't teleport, Bless." The words were met with a momentary silence- before a small smile crossed the other's face.
"...it's gonna be alright, Node." He squeezed them once more- this time, careful not to pressure the injuries on their back. Node, for their part, had yet to flinch- but it wasn't the best feeling in the world, all the same.
The two went still.
Vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....
No words passed between them- just a glance.
"C'mon, c'mon c'mon c'mon--!" A woman's voice- a rather familiar woman's voice- yelped. Pink fur crashed through the bush's inner edge, nearly barreling into the pair. She only stopped at the last second, bright-pink metal flashing in the moonlight as her board suddenly upturned. The mobian jumped off, revealing the hedgehog as she landed and picked her board out of the air.
"Incoming!!!" From above, a blur of yellow just barely avoided crashing into the ground- a familiar bright-yellow fox just barely stopping his Extreme Gear- a standing platform of sorts- before it would have crashed head-long into the dirt.
"Bless? Node?--- What're you two doing here???" Amy's words were stopped by the sight of a certain ring... Glowing bright red in her hands. Unlike Bless and Node- she wasn't inhabited by it.
And Tails- the two-tailed fox that was just beginning to stand... Had a bright blue glow in his chest.
"We could ask you the same thing!" Bless scratched his head. "What were you guys running from?" Amy's eyes narrowed in on the matching rings of light on both mobians, as did Tails'.
"Why are your chests glowing???"
"You guys too????"
"If I knew, I'd tell ya, n' yes!" Node ran a hand down their face. "---Guys,- why were you running?" The hedgehog at least seemed to pause for a moment, bright-green hues sliding between the two as understanding dawned.
"....We were being chased by Meteo-Tech guards..."
"...was it only after you got those glowing rings?" Bless nodded towards the thing in Amy's hands. It looked to be made of metal- with varying areas on it that glowed a rather bright red. Almost like glass, but there was a strange fluid within... Though it wasn't anything Bless could make out, not even with squinting. Tails' ring was pulsing, probably to his heartbeat- a bright blue glow, like the ocean reflecting sunlight.
"Yeah- they kept saying they were 'the Ark of the Cosmos' or something like that." Amy shook her head. "...when we didn't turn them over, they started shooting- I had to get on my board and escape...."
"And now they're in the Botanical Kingdom..." Bless sighed. The sound of engines flew overhead, momentarily freezing the conversation into silence. Only when the sounds had gone, did the trio dare to so much as move- let alone speak- again. "Whatever's going on, Meteo-Tech seems to have a hand in it."
"Then we should just head for Meteo-Tech Tower." Tails hummed. "...If we all went top speed..." Her tails had begun to wave in the air, slow but steady. "It'll be a few hours... Node, I'm guessing you can't teleport?"
"Correct-o..." Node mumbled.
"Then Amy, Sonic, you two'll have to be on defense, in case any 'bots show up...with any luck, we'll make it to Meteo-Tech Tower before dawn..."
"You got it."
The rumble of engines overhead was getting louder.
"RETURN THE ARK OF THE COSMOS."
Node was halfway through a turn when Amy's voice caught their attention.
"Node!" Amy had thrown down her board. Node snapped their own gear into the ground, hearing the skates power on. The fox wasted no time jumping into the air. Tails had already gotten back on his hoverboard. Bless was on all fours again, eyes narrowed.
"BOLT!" The team burst through the bush, twigs scratching at fur and skin, thwacking metal.
Chaos filled the air as Bless and Amy both jumped, one using claws, the other her hammer- bashing the attacking 'bots into the dirt mid-flight. Tails leaned forward, pouring on the speed.
"Ring!" Bless hit a golden ring towards Tails. The ring vanished in a flash of sparks- and Tails' board sped up. Node breathed in, slow and steady. They'd be running for a while- no doubt about it... "Ring!" It hit Node's skates, only to vanish in another flash. Node's ears flattened as the wind blew them down.
"RETURN THE ARK OF THE C--" CSH!! Another 'bot fell to Amy's summoned hammer.
"Next stop, Meteo-Tech Tower!"

I add chips to the center—calling or raising, I don’t remember, but it leads into us revealing our hands, and I watch his cards flip over, and my heart sinks. A face card that elevates his hand above mine, and he pulls the pile close to him, but instead of taking my cards to redeal, he leans forward and taps mine. I lean back in my chair—it’s lesson time.
“Just because you have a hand that could win doesn’t mean it will,” he says. “You can’t just be thinking about how you can succeed. Look at the cards that are out, think about my actions.”
“I don’t know your bluffs. You don’t have bluffs,” I insist, wanting to move on, wanting to win back the pile of chips he has in front of him.
“Don’t consider bluffs,” he says. “Decoding my behavior is good, but you can’t rely on it. Think about the deck,” he taps the stock pile, “think about my cards,” he taps his upturned cards, “and think about the actions, how often I raise. Think about what I’ve done in the past. Think I just win out of luck?”
Fail
“Yes, I understand how a hostage negotiation works, Abigail,” Raymond snapped. He looked at Jodi again, but didn’t say anything for a second, like he was looking her over for injuries. I didn't know if he could tell her legs couldn’t move. It might be more obvious on me, but the ropes made it look more due to restraints. “Terran?” He said, his voice full of concern and no, don’t be concerned for me, I failed you and I was trying to get you out of this and now it’s my own fault I’m stuck here.
Purpose
She crossed her arms. “Find anything in Jodi’s dorm?”
Your brother. “No.”
“You know, I didn't think you were like, completely trustworthy after our talk. But I thought you’d at least play it for more than five seconds.”
I could not do this right now. I could not navigate Mika right now. I had to evade Zachary for long enough to save Raymond. I needed my gun— it was in my desk drawer. She’d gotten in the room enough to block it. I tried to reach around her— she didn't move. Stubbornly.
She continued. “Like really, what purpose did that serve? You could’ve played your game, strung me along for a while, gotten me to really give you something.”
“Mika, move,” I said.
She didn’t. “Why did you go in my room?”
There wasn’t much use in denying it and that would take way too much effort right then. “I needed something. And I need something now, move.”
Numb
(Okay. So I'm really surprised that I don't have "numb" given the following scene being part of something major happening. I could give you a scene with "number" but instead I'm giving this snippet that says everything but "numb")
And then, in an instant, it was gone.
My muscles stopped twitching, relaxing in the binds, and almost as soon as they did, it was as if my limbs weren’t there. When I’d flinched I’d closed my eyes, but now I opened them again. My limbs were still there, I could see them, but all awareness was gone. I couldn’t feel them. Not my arms, my hands, my legs, my feet. Not even my chest. Everything above was still here— I was moving my head, I could feel my heart racing through the skin of my face and the air being drawn through my nose and down my throat, the pain in my face from Mika’s punch still radiated, and the caffeine headache was going strong. But everything below it was gone.
Even lacking awareness of my limbs, I tried to move. Nothing, even when staring straight at my legs. The way I was tied I could hardly see much of my body, so I can’t say for sure my fingers and toes didn’t respond, but I doubted it.
Protect
She was, as much as she tried to assert herself as better, part of a world that, like Zachary had, saw love as the only excuse for resisting their authority, and killing anyone who threatened them. I wasn’t even that much better, as I’d be happy, in that moment, to take my gun from her belt and pull the trigger right on her chest if it meant Raymond would be safe. But Raymond was better than that, and that was why I protected him. Abigail would never understand that.

as much as im still on the fence about RCS as daigo i cant deny they would sound great together in a scene

The romanced!Damien/Kai/Dames/Keegan dynamic fucks me up fr. Matches unable to forget the love they were programmed with…Damien and Kai getting boatloads of trauma and mutually mistaking the Match for the real person. Dames loving Kai all on his own. Keegan backing down in the book 2 finale when confronted by Damien because they KNOW one another in the most fucked up and sad sense.

I'm having another Kanade Moment™ and it'll never cease to make me explode whenever I think abt her family. It's rly hard to word all my thoughts abt them but like Man. Man.
#sekai posting#I have my gripes with some stuff with her dad's writing but its mostly with his whole stroke situation his actual character is fine#I do feel bad that I find him kind of funny tho daughter made such a banger he got hostbitilised over it#but I do rly like the flashback scenes with kanade's mom even if it ultimately doesnt tell us much abt her#it makes sense tho since kanade was yknow a small child at the time#I just have a tendency to get unreasonably attatched to and emotional over backstory dead ppl lol#specifically that flashback scene with her in the last event hit that sweet spot for me of showing just a hint of what might have been#going on in her mind at the time#this is the sort of stuff that makes me miserable and genuinely rly sad but like in a good way#its the mochi appeal ig fjfndkfnd#but yeah its just so interesting to me to think abt how she exists in kanade's mind#cause her death just marked such a fundinental shift in her dynamic with her father and how she viewed herself in relation to him#not that her dad like conpletely neglected her on every level he did still try to be there for her and tried to be a good dad still but he#clearly was still struggling a lot and it evidently still effected kanade a lot#and there are still some things that I feel points to at least certain levels of neglect from him even if he wasnt trying to#anyways I am sleept tired so gn#Ive been in a bad mood all night hopegully Ill be feeling better tomorrow#at least kanade <3
