Odissa, the Forgotten Queen

Odissa was the firstborn of the proud First Blood king, Thaumus Tsukinami, and his successor by order of birth, talent, and power. Thaumus had three daughters in Odissa, Ophelia and Odette, so there was no ligitimate male heir to the throne.

Since a young age, Odissa was kept away from her sisters and mother to be trained in the ways of rulership and warfare, and quickly realized that the reason for that is that the men around her look down on women for the sake of being women.

Unfortunately, the more time that passed, the more she felt a distance between herself, Ophelia, and Odette. The women in her life practically nonexistent.

And the one man from whom she always sought acknowledgment, her father, never provided any real love for her until she had molded herself into a stone-cold stern-faced crown princess whose mere presence could make thousand year old generals stand stiffly.

But she didn't want to be another bloodthirsty, ruthless ruler who cared more about getting their name into history tomes as the next Great Conqueror. Oh, quite the contrary.

She had always planned on stabilizing her throne through connections and trade. Build a web of control and power through every field advantage the First Blood territories provide. Build more watchtowers and strongholds rather than hold expensive military campaigns.

She wanted to empower the throne, the empire, with a meticulously thought-through long-term plan.

Her father, after finally bringing Odissa closer when she'd perfected her facade, pushed for her to marry a Sanguine sooner than later. In particular, he wanted her to marry Saeclus, their youngest and most gifted family member.

Seeing no particularly better option around her and knowing of the influence and power being married to a Sanguine would give her, she agreed easily.

What came as a surprise though, was Saeclus Sanguine himself.

Up close and personal, Saeclus was less and less like the images people made of him - a blood-coated sly beast or a cowering and incapable brat - and more like a pleasantly warm august evening. Soft and pretty, a beautifully artistic mind, a strong body.

She loved him before she knew it. And she couldn't quite help herself either. He was so different from what she was used to.

Unfortunately, the first rumblings of hell beasts being set loose from beyond the black mountains came during this time. Saeclus was sent to war to protect their territories and the Demon World, as were all the other army men.

To make matters worse, her father began to feel ill though - he refused to give up the throne - and Odissa had to take on more and more of his duties. She appeared within public eye less and less, believing that her sisters would be capable of handling high society during this time.

And they did, until Ophelia decided that she wanted the throne for herself.

Odissa is a firecracker with a wit as sharp as a knife and twice as dry. Despite specializing in runes and sigils, she's not the type to hole up inside and drown in text. She has ambitions to become the city's most in-demand sage and the drive to make it happen.

Rekai/Reika, the Free-Hearted Fae (m/f)

R is young for a fae and enthralled with the human world. They enjoy traveling to different places and partaking in local cultures, particularly food and dance. They can get along with pretty much anyone and like to make friends wherever they go - but of course, that doesn't mean they haven't made a few enemies, as well.

Niran/Nira, the Gentle Acolyte (m/f)

Kind-hearted and patient, N tends to be shy, especially when meeting new people, but can be quite talkative once they feel more comfortable. They believe strongly in using their gifts to help other people. When you first meet N, they're studying to become an acolyte and later a priest of the World Temple in Tepar.

This game is rated roughly PG or PG-13 - some violence, topics around death (you're a psychic who can talk to the dead, after all), and other adult themes.

Cholera is a bacterial infection that causes diarrhea, which kills the patients within hours, if left untreated. If patients are diagnosed in time, and treated with antibiotics and other measures at an early stage, they can recover and get back to their normal lives, but if not, they may have to lose their life! Cholera infects approximately 2.8 million people, causing 95,000 deaths every year! In 2018, there was a global demand for around 100 million doses of cholera vaccine, but the supply was only somewhere around 20 million; so you can imagine the sad face of the outbreak!

Today, the world relies only on two suppliers for cholera vaccines – one from South Korea, and the other from India; but, the global demand for cholera vaccines is higher than the supply. This is why large-scale clinical trials are being planned to be conducted, and a Swedish-designed cholera vaccine is to be commercialized to help fight persistent outbreaks of cholera in India and abroad.

The Hilleman-Bharat pact

It is the Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech that signed a pact with the New Delhi-based Hilleman Laboratories to speed up the development and clinical trials. Also, the manufacture of the new oral cholera vaccine needs to be accelerated for the drug to be supplied to low and middle income countries. This collaboration of Bharat Biotech and Hilleman Laboratories has been mainly done to address the global shortage of cholera vaccines, in the midst of the persistence of outbreaks in several states across India and Africa.

What is the pact about?

Under the pact, Hilleman laboratories have licensed to Bharat Biotech the vaccine designed by scientists at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. The vaccine’s safety and capacity to produce an immune response to cholera has already been established by Hilleman laboratories through limited Phase-1 and Phase-2 clinical trials in Bangladesh. Bharat Biotech, thus, has to conduct larger Phase-3 trials and scale up the vaccine production process for commercialization, while also seeking a pre-qualification certification from the World Health Organization, to enable it to supply the vaccine through global funding agencies. The entire process may take somewhere around three years, but the capacity to deliver 50 million doses every year will resolve the uncertainty over supply.

In India, the highest risk of cholera is in Bengal. In fact, Ancient Asiatic cholera strains have also thrived in the Ganges delta, making Bengal very unsurprisingly the most highly affected state.
