I find it so poignant in Epic the idea that all of Odysseus’s actions of ‘kindness’ so to speak always come back to bite him in the end (going to the cave to try and show open arms in trusting the lotus eaters, offering the wine to Polyphemus, sparing Polyphemus, his apology to Poseidon) except for his plea to Circe after denying her advances.
And you know why I think that is? Because it’s the only open arms approach that is completely sincere in nature.
Let me explain a little further, everything I’ve listed up to that point has been deception in some sort of way, they only went to the cave on the advice of the lotus eaters because they were desperate. I have no doubt that if given any other choice, Odysseus wouldn’t have gone. He only offered the wine to Polyphemus in an attempt to bargain for his and his crew’s lives and he ends up spiking it with lotus anyways so even if Polyphemus had let them go, he still would’ve ended up being betrayed in some sense. Him sparing Polyphemus is an act of spite against Athena and Polyphemus because he believes himself to be above any sort of repercussions and wants to taunt him for killing his friends. And finally, his apology to Poseidon is insincere at best because at no point does he ever utter the words “I’m sorry”. Not that Poseidon would’ve let him go anyways because I firmly believe at that point he’d already made up his mind to kill Odysseus and his crew but it’s the thought that counts and Odysseus clearly wasn’t sorry in the slightest, only sorry it came back to bite him.
Then we move to Circe and that’s when Odysseus’s luck changes when, after telling her that he will not cheat on his wife, she shows him mercy and helps him out. Because Odysseus was sincere in his affections for his wife and Circe, a woman who has been burned and abused by men in the past, has watched her nymphs suffer at the hands of men, and as a woman who deems all men as pigs because she believes they do not care for women at all, respects him for that. It humanises him.
It gives Circe some sort of hope that things could be better. Her line “maybe one day the world will need a puppeteer no more” may be immediately followed up with her declaring that instead one day it could need her more and things will get worse, but it gives Circe hope that she never had before. Circe already held the views of her final line, it’s nothing new for her to be untrustworthy of men at best, but for a moment, she wants to believe in a world where men are good and her nymphs would be safe even without her protection. A world where she would be safe.
All because Odysseus was finally being sincere to someone and genuinely poured his heart out which worked! Circe let his men go and helped them get to the underworld which she didn’t have to do at all, she could’ve sent them on their merry way and washed her hands of the whole incident but she didn’t. She wanted to believe in the love between Odysseus and Penelope and did everything in her power to make their reunion possible.
This makes his turn to becoming a monster in the underworld saga all the more upsetting because one good outcome to his kindness does not change others that got his friends killed so he completely gives up on it and embraces the role of being a monster who doesn’t care for anything but getting home, no matter the cost.
Even by the point of his plea for mercy from Circe, a part of Odysseus has already given up on everything Polites tried to in-still in him, but loves his wife so much that he’d never even fathom betraying her despite the fact that he believes cheating on her with Circe (unaware that her seduction is only a farce to kill him) will make her release his men and she’d likely never know that Odysseus had betrayed her. He still can’t do it, it’s Odysseus’s last ditch attempt to try and resolve things peacefully and he’s only doing it for the love of his wife.
It’s tragic irony that the very thing he believes in so sincerely, humanises him so much, and garners him the most help and sympathy is what leads to his downfall to a monster, his love for his wife and his son.

just saw someone on reddit talking about how mischa said his favourite story was saw v (in ride the cyclone 2016) and how fatal five trial from saw v actually has some super interesting comparisons to ride the cyclone (in the actual show he recites the plot of saw vi, the movie after. and some shit about a rusty axe idk. but here i'm talking about the actual saw v. ALSO - warning for spoilers for the saw franchise (and ride the cyclone))
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's two (probably more, but i'm only covering two) ways of looking at this but i'm gonna start with the "jane is a test" version: the fatal five wake up after being abducted and have to go through a series of rooms with different tests and a different person dies in each one (because of the nature of the traps it appears as if this is intentional - in the first room, they are all chained together and have to get keys, but if they all run to get the keys one person is decapitated because of the limited length of chain, and in another room there are only three holes in the wall to hide from an explosion.) in the final room, the two survivors (britt and mallick) have to shed a certain amount of blood to get out of the trap. they discover that this final trap was designed for five people, so they would all have been able to give a small amount of blood to contribute to the total. and it turns out that all the previous tests didn't require a death each - in the first room, only one person needed to get a key and then could unlock everyone, and in the explosion room multiple people could fit in the same hiding place. they do eventually survive this trap but it's like a lesson about teamwork and such. anyway. have we ever seen anything about a morally corrupt girl learning a lesson about life & teamwork & other people....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also yeah something about how they all start competing but by the end (at least the ones that r still alive, in terms of saw) realise they needed to work together to survive (this either works in term of reincarnation theory for rtc, or you could see it in a more symbolic way as them being able to pass on peacefully after voting for jane) in this version, jane isn't a real person that died with them, but is a concept created by karnak to test the choir. these damn puppets and their tests, right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(also yes, i know the tests are john's not billy's, but you get the idea.) the other option isn't a full theory but it's super silly to me that the first girl from the fatal five to die (ashley), who never really gets to interact with the rest of them or figure out what's going on, is a blonde girl who gets decapitated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
anyway i don't think this was intentional but it was just. super interesting to me and i wanted to yap about it.

ppl be like it/its pronouns are dehumanizing and its like. Bitxh thats the point.
and i understand why people may have an aversion to it, obviously most people like to think of themselves as, well, complete people, and see it as inherently bad or like. A fetish. But it's not (at least inherently).
think abt it. Besides the first thing u think about, which are probably animals or generic "object", there's also so many pretty or symbolically great things that are "its". Mountains, the ocean etc.
Humans also assign inanimate objects pronouns all the time, that's why some people call boats by she/her pronouns, or random skeletons he/him etc. So i don't get why it's so weird the other way around
me personally i don't really mind anything. Im sort of IDGAF about my pronouns. One of the reasons im transmasc is because I'd like to be able to not be shamed for the exact things men have or do. Like body hair or whatever. I have those naturally, but it's somehow revolting on me but not on born men. Like. Okay. If we lived in a society where we wouldn't have these double standards im not sure if i would have ever been trans(maybe i would have). Or maybe i just don't have an identity. That's a big possiblity too lol

you're asked at the dinner table what your favorite marine animal is and you say, "i don't know, dolphins maybe?" and levi just bolts out of his seat and leaves the room so quickly you need five seconds to process that, and by the time you do, he's back with an entire power point presentation which he projects onto the wall so that he can teach your uneducated, naive ass about WHY you should pick ANY animal in the ocean EXCEPT those damn fucking traitors. and you're gonna listen.

Thought:
Helmeppo helping Koby with his t injection because he broke his fingers and can't do it properly himself, but the problem is Helmeppo is really scared of needles and is shaking and crying trying to do the procedure
They both are just yelling at each other the whole time before Helmeppo finally does it
Koby just prays that he'll be all better next week somehow

OKAY NOW YOUUUU TOP THREE FOR HMHAS ♡
HI RAYYY<33 EEEK your choices slayed so hard, top tier taste methinks. hmm my top three:
1. chihiro—the production, the vocals, it's just ETHEREALLLLL and in particular the last minute of the song has me absolutely ascending its soso beautiful. like can't turn the volume high enough, i bet that's what astral projection feels like...
2. LUNCHHHHH—banger!! need i say more??? such a groovy song and literally has been stuck in my head nonstop. I COULD EAT THAT GIRL FOR LUNCHHH YEAH SHE DANCES ON MY TONGUEEE banger central. i also think it's so cool how she made quite like a ✨ risqué ✨ song so much fun and even elegant in a sense!!
3. hmm bit of a harder choice but im gonna go with the diner! it's a super unique sound, and i think an underrated one on the album!! but this choice is kinda flexible...maybe buttersuite.....gotta relisten and ponder
ooo this was fun, i definitely like the more upbeat ones, but it's a crazy well made album overall most definitely! ♡
