How the moon affects the tides

Untuk engkau yang paling menenangkan

Aku sengaja mencari ketenangan sambil berharap engkau yang aku temukan. Aku sempat lupa bagaimana caranya awan berguling menutup cahaya bulan, kau masih saja kiasan yang sangat aku idam-idamkan. Melihatmu juga menenangkan, artinya aku mengagumimu tanpa jeda berkepanjangan.

Seandainya ada kata yang melebihi dari kata "suka" jelas aku akan mengutarakannya. Apalagi, aku hanya wanita yang ombaknya tidak pernah lepas dari kata bahaya, aku juga malam yang mencekam untuk pria seterang gemintang, jiwaku seperti laut pasang yang siap menenggelamkan orang.

Aku takut ada yang terluka jika bersamaku, namun kau pria yang paling bisa percaya bahwa rembulan juga butuh gemuruh ombak dilautan agar terasa indah dan menenangkan.

Rulers of the tides

The story goes that when Alexander the Great’s soldiers reached the Indian Ocean and saw its waters rising and falling twice each day, they grew fearful and assumed their invasion had displeased the gods.

I can understand that. That theory almost seems as plausible as the truth: that the puppeteers are the sun and the moon - that the earth’s oceans are controlled, through mysterious forces, by two other rocks floating in the universe.

As they told you in science class, it’s the  gravitational pull of the moon and the sun that makes the oceans bulge, causing a continuous change between high and low tide.

It’s a wonder.
