Nobody knows who he is or where he came from - but the silhouette of his hare mask and cape against the polar night sky is unmistakable.

Forgot to post this lmao. I finally finished the portrait of my Rogue Trader, my Pyromancer Lazarus. This thing gave me no shortage of trouble, as I ended up restarting this about 4-5 times before I was finally happy with it. I did have a lot of fun with it in the end, and this is probably the most fun I've had painting a background.

WIP Whenever

I have been writing a lot about lazarus lately so i think its time to actually draw him, lets hope i actually get around to publishing his story,,,

Expert from some original fiction I've been working on. CW: open wounds, rotting flesh

The man who answered was a tall, thin human. He had long, wavy brunette hair and captivating hazel eyes; spectacles rested on the bridge of his nose, and he held a book between his fingers. Before Zafir could get a word out, the alleged alchemist drew in a surprised breath. “Hells, get in here. He doesn't have much time.”  Zafir shuffled Nikita in, the man encouraging him to be laid on the bed. Nikita protested at the rapid change, writhing and gritting his teeth. The man pulled up a chair, unfolding a wrap of various tools onto his leg. He glanced at Zafir, beginning to unravel the dressing. “There's a crate by the dresser, drag that over, will you?”   Zafir nodded. He peeked into it to see neatly arranged, labeled bottles filled with various colored liquids. He was gentle with it, not wanting to break the delicate glasses.  “Thank you,” the man said. He had the wound exposed. It was completely black now, and turning Nikita’s thigh necrotic. “I don't know how much I can do for him here. I need a laboratory, an assistant… but I will try my best. Help me make him comfortable, this isn't going to be pleasant for him.”

i really love characters who believe themselves to be so wholly good that they are incorruptible, that they see rot everywhere without, but never once stop to think they could be twisted. lazarus is such a character.

i've decided he was a follower of tyr in his youth, either orphaned or abandoned, but treated cruelly prior to landing on the temple's step nonetheless. he takes it upon himself to become the very law that had abandoned him, to enforce it so strictly in an iron vice grip that what started as a well-intentioned endeavour warps and twists on itself. he becomes corrupt, the embodiment of the corruption he had sought to purge.

but, due to having been a victim, he believes himself exempt from perpetuating the cycles. he believes that only he knows what is best for everyone. so, to those who aren't quite so tunnel-visioned, when this once upon a time gutter rat starts clawing his way up (ascending with alarming speed, honestly) through the court to eventually become one of—if not the—foremost judge in baldur's gate, it's quite alarming.

by the time the game starts, he's held his position for a very long time. some elderly elves remember a time before he was so very prominent, but apart from them, none in living memory can recall a time before judge lazarus viljarand.

what started as a desire to avenge himself turned into the very sickness that ruined him. it's little wonder that zofeia is as harsh and unwavering as her iron-fisted father, in that case.

Lazarus de Santis... twin brother to Domiziano, though they haven't spoken in a few years. People tend to go quiet around him, and give him space, almost like they're afraid of him. Wonder why...
