the way all of ten's companions leave the doctor in journey's end thinking he's going to be more than fine because he's got his best friend with him and they've all got that just-saved-the-world glow only for ten to look like that when rose kisses tentoo when just before (in a deleted scene) donna had assured rose that she would be there to keep the doctor company while the doctor is already anticipating that he's going to have to wipe donna's memory?? oh idk what rtd was feeding us to make us go this feral because he sure as hell wasn't feeding us happy fucking endings

I remember there was this one episode of doctor who where some malevolent aliens experimented on a pig to make it look like an extraterrestrial (walked on two legs, wore a space suit) & it freaked out & began to run. a man shot it just before nine could stop him, and nine yelled “why would you do that! it was SCARED!” before cradling it’s head and gently caressing it’s snout while it took its final breaths. and I think that, at the heart, is who nine was. he was witty and sarcastic and mean and jaded but he cared. he cared so much about everything, and everyone, no matter how insignificant and fleeting they could have seemed in comparison to an entity like him.

the doctor was born to be silly, forced to experience traumatic moments so severe that just one of them would justify a lifetime of therapy

NuWho season 4 really hits you with the 1-2 punch of Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead and then Midnight directly after those. Like what the fuck?!?!

started watching doctor who s5 yesterday and i got curious ~

i'm letting the poll open for a whole week, please reblog and share !! i don't have many dw mutuals on tumblr but i'm genuinely curious to find out which season is most loved by the audience / fandom and why ^^

ps. i've enjoyed every season so far tbh, i think my fav doctor is ten but i'm looking forward to catch up with the episodes i still have to watch <33

pps. as for the companion, it's quite hard for me to pick one as my favorite because i've really liked everyone >.<" but i do wish donna had more screen time (i miss her so much already)

ppps. also my fav aliens / creatures up to now have been the oods, i really hope to see them again !!!

this is probably at least part hindsight bias but it's incredible how in the runaway bride (the only episode catherine tate was initially intended to be in) donna immediately feels like a full-time companion. her chemistry with ten is so good that you kind of forget she hasn't been running around in the TARDIS and they actually just met. it's crazy how she achieved something I never felt with any other one-time companions and it's probably one of the reasons she was brought back for series 4 to begin with

fathers day is just. so rough because nine really shouldn't bring rose back to the day her father died, but he does, twice. he knows how tempting time travel is to fix mistakes but he wants to indulge her in ways he can't indulge himself. because hes been there-- to the titanic, to krakatoa, trying to save people's lives, probably failing every time if him being at JFKs assassination is anything to go by. hes furious when she interferes, calls her names, walks out on her, but only because hes reminded of his own foolish attempts (and ultimate failures) to save the doomed.

but throughout all of that he still-- still-- does his best to find a way out without pete having to die again. he wants her to be able to succeed, wants to prove that someone can be saved in these scenarios. it really makes his "just this once, everybody lives" so much more impactful because at that point they're in the middle of an air raid in the middle of a world war, and by all time logic none of those people should have lived. but they did.
