Thinking about how the creature in "Midnight" targeted the Doctor not because he's the smartest or most dangerous, like he assumed, but because it identified him as the Different one, the only non-human in the group, and therefore he was the most vulnerable one. The one everyone was most likely to turn on, and the creature could take advantage of the humans urge to weed out anything different, anything they might PERCIEVE as a threat

Taking a big space truck with a bunch of strangers across a diamond planet called Midnight? What could possibly go wrong?

truly so intrigued by the idea that the creatures from wild blue yonder are different forms of the midnight creature, like they’re the same type of being trying to achieve / capable of doing different things. I never ever want concrete canon answers on this because that defeats the point, but thinking about it is TANTALISING it’s so interesting

Just rewatched midnight. I forgot how good this episode is.
The doctor is known for beliving in humanity and hoping people will always make the right choice in the end. And that belief is crushed here. THAT'S the scary part. The thing itself is fucking creepy, of course it is, but what makes this episode so frightening is the panic. The worst comes out of people when they are scared and the setting of this episode has it all to scare someone: small, almost claustrophobic space, middle of nowhere (and the said nowhere is deadly), weird fucking thing that turns up by smashing into the shuttle and killing someone. So what does the doctor do? He acts hopeful. He is kinda fascinated by what happened. He wants to help. But the people in the shuttle decide that they should kill the thing, so he does what? He believes they won't really do it, will they? AND you can see the surprise, hurt and horror in his eyes when he can't talk them out of it. AND you start to feel unsafe BECAUSE of it. The doctor loses control and the viewer feels it. Doctor knows those people are capable of killing him - he's totally at their mercy and they've just dissappointed him.
This epiosode explores human flaws and the psychology of fear and that's what makes it scary. people. people are the scariest part of midnight

I really like the sixth gif, in which the hostess is reflected on the window thing when Sky is talking in unison with her. It's a nice touch. I am also very normal about the use of the word coward in this episode.

midnight is possibly The best episode of doctor who ever (better than blink!!) i think. it is absolutely genius in its writing and storytelling. its a wonderful sci fi mystery with some great social commentary with minimal vfx and it relies pretty much entirely on the talent of the actors to tell the story and it manages to do so in a way that is so compelling and sometimes funny and sometimes utterly chilling ITS SO GOOD

And did anyone else think about the creature from Midnight with the No-Things? Beings that don't have a form, getting into a ship and stealing people's selves. The method was different, but the similarities make me RATTLED with excitement.

NuWho season 4 really hits you with the 1-2 punch of Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead and then Midnight directly after those. Like what the fuck?!?!

No matter how good or bad Doctor Who is ever gonna get again, there will never be an episode better than series 4 episode 10: "Midnight". It's the episodification of perfection: It has perfect pacing, an amazing score that's really creating a scary atmosphere and extreme tension, the acting is fantastic - especially from David Tennant who's perfectly portraying the Doctor's fear and powerlessness, increasing the tension even further during the climax, and Lesley Sharp who not only proves impressive skills by having had to memorise everyone's lines and speak them perfectly synchronised but who also managed to give the creature this uncanny eeriness which is further amplified by the fantastic sound mix.
I love how not a single character is portrayed as bad or evil, just scared and irrational. And at the same time, while some characters - especially Jethro and Dee Dee - are clearly more likeable than others - Jethro's parents and the professor - no character is constantly right and everyone makes decisions or says things that the more knowledgeable audience probably disagrees with. "Midnight" isn't about a morally wrong villain, it's a comment on human nature and how under the right circumstances the most ordinary people are capable of extreme and immoral behaviour. It's basically lord of the flies but way better!
I could keep rambling about the cinematography and the amazing ending that really makes you feel the trauma the Doctor has experienced on this adventure and the beautiful design of the planet and so much more because really everything is perfect about this episode and I love it so! so! much! I've watched "Midnight" more often than any other Doctor Who episode and yet I still can't get myself to look away from the screen for a single second whenever I rewatch it because - again - it is the perfect episode!
tl;dr: I love Doctor Who series 4 episode 10 "Midnight" because it's the most perfect episode of all perfect episodes ever no I'm not exaggerating

The annoying thing of getting into an old popular show for me is having to say something about it but fearing that it's has already been said a million times by the fans.
In other news, I love how much the monster from Midnight is a perfect counter to The Doctor. A being he has no knowledge from, is impossible to trick to spit out information, it can't be pacified and resonated with, it takes control over others so you can't kill it without also killing an innocent person in the process, and you can't talk or it will slowly posses you.
It's so fascinating just how utterly fucked The Doctor was in this situation.

Just watched Doctor Who season 4 episode 10: Midnight for the first time and I’m a little late to the party but I had to post about it because I don’t think I’ll ever recover. The acting is amazing the entire episode. The look on The Doctor’s face when he the entity takes control and steals his voice. We’ve never seen The Doctor so helpless before. I haven’t been able to watch another episode for the past two days because I’ve been reading tumblr posts from 2015 talking about it and watching YouTube videos about it. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. Scariest episode I’ve seen.

things the doctor could have said during midnight that would have helped his case instead of just saying "you need me" and "I'm clever" and "I'm just a traveler"
"I have a lot of experience in interacting with alien life forms"
"I know science real good"
"I'm just a traveler, but in my travels I've acquired knowledge that might help us"
"when there's something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call? the doctor"
"So actually y'all, I happen to be telepathic and could help out."
"This thing might need a space ship and whoooo boy, have I got some good news."
"I’m the Doctor. I’m a Time Lord. I’m from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous. I’m nine hundred and three years old. And I’m the man that’s going to save your lives and all six billion people on the planet below. You got a problem with that?"
