one major difference i have found between service industry work (in my case food service but this is widely applicable to similar jobs) and other public-facing positions is that the job itself is often very similar because people is the same, it's just in service everyone approaches you already thinking they're right and you're a fucking idiot and its their god given right to disrespect you, where in other positions even if they are not nice to you they usually acknowledge that you know more than them on issues pertaining to your job. like the difference in behaviour from people who see you as serving them vs helping them is unreal. i am doing literally the exact same things. customer is always right mentality did irreparable damage to the fabric of society
#good idea generator#i loveee the library front desk everyone is polite and people will just ask you anything#they assume so much knowledge and access to data#ill be like 'just one moment let me look that up in the system' [googles name of school + upcoming events]#also not in a mean way but i never realized until i worked here how little anybody is googling anything#i think its funny and i also love to google things for people so i am perfectly suited to this#and some questions even though they are googleable the issue is more that the person isnt totally sure what theyre asking#but like. the library hours are visible on the home page. and outside the building that you just walked into on a sign#PPL DO NOT READ SIGNS. i knew that from other jobs but good lord people do NOT even GLANCE at signs#ppl would fully walk past like 4 signs about a specific thing and proceed to ask me a q about the thing. after waiting in a line#constantly CONSTANTLY ppl are trying to enter or exit through locked doors. clambering over closed signs to do so#its someones job when the library closes specifically to point out the signs and direct ppl to an open exit#and still often people will get up to the automatic doors and be baffled and confused as to why they dont open#but like even this i dealt w/this at my food service job and it was so frustrating#bc when you had to confront these people they would get MAD AT YOU. furious that they didnt read a sign telling them where to line up#but at the library people are polite and apologetic so you know it's not malice or entitlement ppl are just kind of inattentive#monumental difference tbh i actually love front counter so much people are so fun#and i like it when nobody is actively trying to kill me with their mind while we speak

what you’ve got to understand about working conditions in education (and also other care-oriented careers) is that if they’re shit, two things are true at once:
that does not ever excuse being cruel to a kid, no matter what
until those conditions are fixed, education will continue to suck absolute shit
this is because when working conditions for teachers are really bad, many of the good teachers who recognize when they are reaching a point where they can no longer be the sort of teacher the kids deserve due to burnout WILL quit. they will do the responsible thing and go away for their own sake and the sake of the kids. and you end up stuck w a combination of new teachers who are trying their best but won’t last long, burnt out teachers who are trying their best but have nothing left to give and therefore aren’t very effective at actually teaching, and cockroach shitheads who take out their misery on the kids.
we have all had terrible experiences with bad teachers, many of them flat out traumatic, but for fuck’s sake please try to look at the systemic underpinnings of the problem for one minute. spitefully declaring that teachers don’t deserve good working conditions or even the right to complain about bad working conditions because ms. whoever in 5th grade was a bitch is only going to create more of her. if you want good teachers then we need an education system they can survive in

Keep thinking about the .00001% chance my Durge has a kid, and how impossible the circumstances would have to be, but also how both posh and feral a child raised by Durge and Astarion would be 😭
Like this baby is so good at using their baby charms to get everything they want but sometimes it's ridiculous shit like. You have this super spoiled child who is kind of a brat sometimes, but secretly a huge softy and is actually VERY well behaved for their parents & extended family...for the most part.
Sometimes a feral streak will hit them and they'll get the combination Dhampir/Bhaalspawn Zoomies. They're running around yelling about paving a path in corpses, Astarion is moving at top Vamp speed to keep up, Storm Sorc Durge flying over every which way trying to prevent shit from breaking/falling. But this is still just a child so at a certain point they overdo it and Astarion & Durge just fucking find them passed out with some squirrels they drained then slaughtered.
But also imagine the hunger this poor child would experience. Like they're the creation of two people with nearly uncontrollable appetites. The "Pets or food?" Dichotomy to an extreme. Living beings are literally their life source and their offering to the God whispering violence in their ear day in & day out. Cus you know Bhaal would be giving that little Bhaalspawn Special Attention. Cus he's petty af.
Like it would be so tragic, but could be such a good "resisting hunger & urges" story to explore esp with having to live their lives with both bc Dhampir Bhaalspawn baby wouldn't have Withers to take Bhaal's blood from them

not sure if I personally agree with Aristotle about friendship tbh
#or maybe I'm just misunderstanding him? or not fully embracing all the ways that his views on friendship could be applied?#our professor went over it in class today and then also showed us how it can be reworked into a christian conception of friendship#via augustine's ordered loves#and like... I *get* that.#but I'm not sure that someone has to have that many similarities to you and also the friendship has to be fully reciprocal for it to be#a friendship?#I'm starting to feel like friendship isn't meant to be just about 'hey we like the same things and therefore we hang out together'#it's supposed to be more about choosing to help and lift up people again and again#and that (in healthy people with healthy support systems holding them up) flows outward from family relationships#your family knows you in the most intimate and personal way#your friends are the people who you are surrounded with who you lift up again and again when they need support from#outside the sphere of their family#idk maybe that's not how it works. but that's how it seems to me.#maybe I'm just tired of constantly second-guessing everything about everyone and all my relationships with everyone I know#maybe that's where the real truth here lies. Between COVID, US politics, and Gaza, I've sure lost a lot of friends, acquaintances, and family members in such a short amount of time.
#seems every time the new big thing happens I end up losing a few more people in my life#I found out today that someone I (previously) respected fully supports wiping out Palestinians#I remember as a kid being told that when you grow up you learn to accept other people for their differences and like... yeah. sure.#everybody has an opinion and all but there's a big difference between 'I like pineapple on my pizza' vs 'I support ethnic cleansing'#and the thing is as someone who works and has BEEN working public-facing jobs for almost a decade now#I have SEEN a very visible shift in the way the general public behaves#people ARE getting more aggressive. people ARE losing their humanity.#people are stressed and burnt out in a system and environment that is increasingly becoming unlivable#and we've had a lot of political upheaval not just within our own country but across the world#we're constantly hearing about and seeing graphic depictions of horrific cruelty and mass murder on the news#everyone I know is going through the same problems I am#and most of them have also had to cut ties with friends/family/colleagues and so on due to radicalization#I don't expect everyone I know to have the same opinions and worldviews that I do but I DO expect at least a basic level of human decency

Listen I get working class solidarity and my parents are teachers I know how overworked they are.
My dad is retiring this year and is extremely burnt out and comes home exhausted these days. I support teachers strikes and higher pay for educators.
However I still have a really hard time feeling empathy towards teachers as a whole. My parents were also abusive, and then I went to school and I was punished and shamed for my trauma symptoms. I was never given any kind of emotional support or counseling as a child, and I learned to shame and hate my trauma symptoms which has made healing from abuse take so much longer.
I’m still in emdr therapy unlearning things that my elementary school teachers taught me, trying to understand that their behaviors were not my fault.
I think the education system is built off of the oppression of children and teens, and many teachers assume that they’re entitled to respect but not all teachers treat their students with respect.
they choose punishment and shaming because it’s easier in the moment, rather than supporting youth to feel their emotions and work through the difficult situations they face.
I’ve always wondered how we expect teens and children to model emotional regulation and intelligence when most adults don’t model it?
And yeah, everyone has responsibility over their behavior and how they respond to their emotions, I take accountability for how I’ve harmed people and I’ve done so much healing since I was kid. But I also know if literally one teacher had sat down with me for a moment to understand what was happening in my life at the time, I’d be a completely different person today.
Obviously there are many teachers trying to fix this and creating more ethical ways to teach, but again they are overworked and overwhelmed with little support.
I also feel like if we truly valued children, teachers wouldn’t be as burned out and stressed and have so little resources. Schools in the US exist in a culture of white supremacy and capitalism, where we spend billions on the military and imperialism and deprioritize education and social services that would ensure that kids could come to school with the food clothes, school supplies and safe homes that make it possible for children to learn.
I’ve said it before but anti-capitalist movements should include the rights of children and teens. Teachers especially should recognize this since their struggle is inherently tied to the students they teach. It’s also incredibly important since teachers have an inherent power dynamic over their students.
#blame the systems not the individuals sure but teachers are the group I’ve seen#belittle children not only in their classrooms or home lives but also#they take their viewpoints and share them online or with other people#and they continue to normalize the dehumanization of children#especially kids of color neurodiverse and disabled children#I can stand up for teachers rights as workers but I don’t think I will ever fully trust them given my own life experiences#the school system needs to be structured completely differently and we all need to check our bias and dehumanization of children and teens!!#I just saw someone on TikTok discussing how assuming kids are just disrespectful when they act out#is incredibly dehumanizing and especially dangerous for marginalized youth#it’s also something I’ve been thinking about since I attended my dad’s retirement party this week loll#personal

I've been chipping at a new oni save recently and I have to say I have gotten way less ambitious with my teleporter planet over my past few saves. In a lot of my earlier saves Id dive right in there, but nowadays I find myself ignoring the teleporter for a good while before dipping in to set up some basic utilities there before leaving again and continuing to stall lol
#rat rambles#oni posting#probably because Ive been busy coring out my starting planetoid in my more recent playthroughs#I do want to do some space travel and setting up several colonies but Im not quite sure how Im going to go about it#Ill probably need to use my teleporter planetoid to set up my rocketry program since it has an oil biome but idk#I could in theory go for a steam engine until I get a radbolt engine or a hydrogen engine set up#which honestly Im not sure which I wanna go for since I havent rly played around with either#radbolt would probably be easier to rush but hydrogen would be easier in the long term I think#its all abt the difference between getting a radbolt generation system set up safely vs getting supercoolant#now I usually tend to mostly just stick to petroleum engines but thats because I lack ambition#I could be using that petroleum for power instead#although currently my power situation is actually going pretty ok all things considered#now its a very ducktaped solution given that I am procrastinating on actually properly taming the hydrogen vent Im using for part of it#rn Im using a cool slush vent to produce coolant for the area and using that heat to warm it up enough to be filtered without freezing#but thats a very unstable solution so once I get access to better options Ill likely just fully block it off and call it good#as for my alternative power source Ive recently set up coal generators after getting my obligatory sage hatch farm set up#Im still working on automating it all but itll do it's job just fine for now#I also wanna tap into my cold brine vent soon both for potential extra coolant and for another water source#currently Im fine on water but I wanna get bristle berry farms set up soon so I just wanna be sure Ill have enough#honestly the thing Im saddest abt is that I dont have any natual gas vents#I usually like to get a gas range running quite early so the combination of no natural gas vents and no oil biome is quite saddening#like there are other ways but none that seem particularly worth it to me#anyways Im still sick and exhausted so Im gonna go to bed now#just wanted to make sure everyone knows Im alive

loose thoughts, but if i had it my way : t0ph would've never stayed as chief of police. maybe she'd founded the r.epublic c.ity p.olice and trained / oversaw the first batch, and maaaybe she'd come back every six months to see if any of them needed extra whipping but ... i think that's about it. additionally, t0ph would've remained as one of the staunch business voices for the industrial age, overseeing her and her father's investment in the refinery and how that business could've grow to aid as many nations as it could. on top of all that ? b.eifong's metalbending academy would've been everywhere. it would've lowkey been a franchise, except we know t0ph never collected money from those kids; it would've seconded as an orphanage, serve to help runaway children like she never got before she met the g.aang. t0ph would've revolutionised or at least gave precedent for the general educational system and/or how the populace view child safety when it comes to displaced children. and if we're adding l.in and s.uyin into this ? oh, t0ph definitely said fuck structure (negative). my girl would for sure be hopping from place to place as it suits her and it wouldn't have given the girls any proper place to settle because they'd be at the b.eifong estate one season, then a metalbending school the next, and then somehow in r.epublic city that summer. and that's my thought on that 😇

Maybe it’s because he’s in his mid thirties or something but he can’t stand being called your boyfriend. He’s more than that but also not at the same time. You live together, have access to each other’s bank accounts (which is only because he hates it when you try to fight him about him giving you money), and you’re each others emergency contact. He thinks of himself as your husband. The man wears a silicone ring when he’s home and a necklace with the ring that’s totally not a wedding band when he’s working. Price has seen the chain once or twice and smirks, shooting him a knowing look but never says a word.
Simon cannot stand it when people get nosy and want to know what your relationship status is. You’re together and that’s all that matters. No one needs to know that you’re the beneficiary of his will and life insurance policy or that he’s put you on all of his accounts. No one needs to know that he buys you anything you want but has only ever bought you two rings; a thin gold band with a flower engraved on it and its twin a matching emerald ring. No one needs to know that when he gifted them to you, there were tears and promises of safety, love, and happiness whispered against feverish skin. No one needs to know that he has your name woven into his chest tattoo.
No one needs to know any of that because your relationship is between him and you only.
2. You are not some submissive little house wife. You are a strong independent woman and he prefers it that way.
I know this one goes against what most people say but hear me out on this. Simon has been independent since birth practically. He’s only had himself to count on for years. Even in the military, he’s only been able to rely himself. Sure the others watch out for him but if it came down to it, he’s the only one who’s going to get himself out alive.
The thought of someone else relying on him in that way is terrifying. He can’t even fathom what it would be like to look at another person and fully trust them in that way. Half the time he feels like he can’t even be trusted to take care of himself let alone another human. In theory a sweet docile housewife is great with the meals and clean house but not for him. He needs to know that you can hold your own. He needs to know that you can be independent and carry on without him if something happened while he was working. He needs to know that you will be okay if he doesn’t come back.
You have to be okay without him no matter how much it pains him to think about it.
Like I said before, he’s made you the beneficiary of everything so he knows you’ll be set financially but that’s not enough. He’s made Price promise to keep an eye out for you. He’s made you promise to let Price do that and you agreed because it’s Simon who’s asking but you’d tell anyone else to fuck off.
In addition to all of that, he’s installed the best security system the government has to offer in your house. You have a very expensive and large safe in your shared closet that he’s instructed you to only open if you feel unsafe. While you might not like it, you agree to go shooting with him so he can sleep at night knowing that you could protect yourself if he’s not home. He’s gone as far as to make sure you have all of the licenses and certificates that are needed to legally own firearms in the UK.
He’s not leaving any opportunity for you to be vulnerable or have your ‘safety checks’, as he calls them, taken away.
3. Simon Riley is a godless man…until he meets you.
Now this is entirely my own headcannon with no evidence to support it so bear with me.
Simon had a shitty childhood where his mom would pray to a god who never listened and his dad would shout verses at him when he was drunk. God was a mythical figure that he was told stories off with nothing to show for it. He did believe at one point but then his dad never got better, his mom wore bruises of every shade, and his brother found comfort in drugs.
He found himself praying when he was being tortured by the Mexican cartel. Between the flashbacks of his abusive past, he prayed to a god who had failed him so many times before to help him. He prayed again as he dug himself out of that Texas grave with the major’s jaw bone. He wailed his prayers when he found his family executed after Sparks tried to kill him.
After that he deemed himself a Godless man. Years of praying had passed with nothing. This god had decided that Simon was not worthy of a miracle so why would he continue to worship him?
That was until he met you. He finds himself praying before every mission, every time he has to leave you, every time he’s on his way home, and just about any other time he thinks of you. He doesn’t know what exactly he’s praying for other than for you to be there when he gets back.
He whispers his prayers to an absent god against your skin as he worships your body, soul, and heart. He promises to be devoted to you until his last breath and vows to find you again in whatever afterlife awaits you. He pledges to find solace in you and only you when his haunting nightmares return. He makes an oath to your heart that it will never weather another storm alone again for his will take whatever beating that comes your way. He shows you that he will love you in the same manner as a Hozier song; putting you above all else because you have become his religion, his faith, his beliefs, his life.
You have become all that he is and he thanks the god he once believed in for you. He prays again but to you, his heart, his love, and his beacon through the enteral storm of life.

#shut up spencer#oof that last reblog gave me thoughts lmao#will delete later#need to scream at the void#the healthcare system in my province is an absolute fucking mess#and its even worse in my area#the last two years ive lost track of how many times ive been in the hospital#ive passed out with no real warning or reason multiple times#end of august i was fully out for at least 30 seconds#had a halter monitor placed to make sure my heart condition was still undetectable and it was#so now i have to wait at least a month to get a ct scan and probably longer to see a neurologist#because its possible im not passing out#i might be having seizures#and they might be getting worse#my brain really just really wants to take me out lmao#mental health or epilepsy it fucking hates me
