Fruits Basket Manga Review , ch 110

The writer doesn’t need to rush to akito (antagonist) & give us quick background exposition & escalate her mentality to the exploding moment, simply cuz tohru (the protagonist) isn’t emotionally in her most vulnerable moment yet. Tohru’s issues will be presented deeper with each pov chapter she’ll have. So what should the writer do now?

This is a connected plot, meaning the emotions belonging to the previous chapter are still lingering & needs to be dealt with. There is no stupid laughing & cooking or even dumber momentarily amnesia. Nope! There is this:

-The Art of Writing Slow-Burns: (Lingering Emotions:)

Last time kyo hugged tohru thro the sheets. sth he wouldn’t do if it weren’t for the heartbreaking moment of tohru’s tears & the reason behind them. Why wouldn he do it? cuz he believes he’s the reason of her pain & is setting his mind on leaving her & being imprisoned as a punishment. He wouldn’t do it cuz he loves her but he did it cuz he loves her. why? cuz love is illogical. Kyo’s heart moved him effortlessly to embrace her & “ his tenderness covered her pain” as the writer put it at the end of ch109.

Last time tohru hugged kyo thro the sheets, sth she wouldn’t do if it weren’t for the comfort of his warmth enveloping her loneliness & providing safety & a home. A home can a person. Why wouldn she do it? cuz Tohru is someone who hides pain behind a smile, someone who thinks she’s ugly & unlovable cuz she’s grieving still after all this time. She’s thinks she’s a burden. But here she confessed to kyo unprompted or advised by anybody. He only asked a fleeting question. but tohru cant hide who she is friom him anymore. Still, he accepted her & tenderly held her thro the sheets & she threw her body at him, she initiated the hug.

The sheet hig is the biggest emotional moment between kyo/tohru yet. It altered how they feel for each other cuz in that moment tohru’s mask fell & kyo was the most honest with himself emotionally. That’s not sth you move from with the stupid ED song. They both try to carry out normally afterwards cuz they live together after all. The slightest touch brings..... sexual tension!!! it was so bad poor yuki left the house running!!!!!!!!

The writer cleverly escalates the sexual tension as they awkwardly try to find a talking topic, then dissolves it a bit when kto asks if tohru wants to go out together & where, then escalates it when tohru suggests buying eggs cuz she’s awkward, then dissolves it when kyo grumpily agrees but this is just grocery shopping” not a fun going out”, the escalates it when tohru said she’s happy for just bring together with him regardless of the location & kyo looses it! sexual tension explodes!

The target of the slow-burn isn’t the characters... the target is the audience! the writer plays with their emotions & cleverly puts the audience in a place where they desperately want these two idiots together but still remember why they aren’t! that’s very important. Having the readers cheer for a romantic relationship includes the readers understanding the obstacles ahead & how big they are & still cheer. If the obstacles are meh~ the readers will find the couple unrealistic, if the obstacles are so big & the couples emotions aren't buildup properly, then the couple themselves will feel meh~. Glad kyoru survived such writing mistakes both manga & anime ( anime hurt their characters more than their relationship).

-Yuki wants to move on from the unofficial son third wheeling his mom & her man:

The writer jokes abt yuki admitting he felt as a son watching his mon & her bf. I love tha this joke becuz it cleverly addresses the following points:

it is cleverly weaved in with the kyoru incident from last chapter. Sth happen & yuki doesn't know what is & doesn't want to! Yuki represents the audience I talked abt in the slow-burn point above. He is us. He’ll cheer for them to be together & will be so frustrated when they can’t. It adds to yuki confronting kyo at the climax!!! You see in the anime kyo/yuki stopped interacting much in se03. Then tada~~ big fight when it’s a must! & can’t be escaped... Here we still have kyo/yuki moments despite each boy moving away from his issues being the fault of the other. Basically better writing.....

The writer cleverly used this to address that yuki still feels like tohru’s son sometimes despite being more independent now, which is natural as you cant switch ur feelings with a button. But also the writer doesnt stay in this moment long & use it to build the next moment.. yuki/Aya , yuki/machi & aya/mine.... sadly all there dynamics are shortened in the anime like kyoru’s.

-I don’t think yuki/Aya moment suffered much from the cuts, the entire school parents meeting ep us enough to reconcile the brothers. Aya defended yuki that day & so did yuki. He completely accepted him & stood up to him in front of the mom.

- More aya/mine would’ve been good to see & I would’ve preferred it to yuki/motoko moments in the anime that served nothing. but aya/mine too are stand alone story. They’re the most alike couple in a healthy way. Aya is the guy who protected his woman the most. simply cuz he’s the snake. snakes are secretive. he kept her to himself, even from yuki!!! impressive.

- What I lament from the cut of this mini yuki adventure?

1- This: ( yuki’s facial expressions) This is sth the anime fears, either cuz (a) pretty yuki is 100% pretty all the time, so no expressiveness cuz it leads to showing eyebrows & hiding them under layers of hair is the A.B.C of pretty characters... (b) Yuki in the anime is a prince 98% of the time, except with kyo (they got rid of this in se03 & give them one honest/ugly moment together) & with kakeru (one tiny moment in se03 in match’’s focus ep & then quickly back to prince yuki!)..., ugh!!!!!! I hate how yuki is prince thro & thro in the anime!!that’s why they couldn’t get rid of any motoko content!!! he’s a prince there... heck! school girls float after him the graduation ceremony... what’s up with that!! lol.

2-. This: ( machi with the toy that tohru/kisa/kagura/momiji & kiro like! so cute!!! also, foreshadowing yuki’s future chosen extended family! (his bro & his wife), (yuki & his wife) & best friend/his brother in law! Also, yuki is so himself! no glitters, no bubbles & no pretending anger! <3

Side Notes:

The lovely @mizzraynelly made notice kto’s speech in ch109 abt not vising his mom’s grave! Even tho it’s such a minor line, it’s one of the biggest cuts that foreshadow the accumulation of kyo’s guilt towards his mom. Kyo’s thing is guilt towards ppl he loves & fear of hurting them, by keeping this feeling alive in readers’ minds, the writer is making sure that the climax will hurt like sharp knives cuz the readers are on the same wave liength as kyo!!! epic buildup consists of tiny subtle pieces!

Luckily, kyoru as a ship felt so strong in both manga & anime despite the later cutting half of their moments. Why? cuz the chosen cuts didnt affects the romantic relationship...no... the cuts affects the characters’ own personal struggle... most precisely tohru. Kyo’s own character struggles had better luck in the anime despite the cuts, simply cuz (a) was drawn with very expressive emotions & the anime team lingered on them in his scenes. (b) His character design as a whole was very expressive, the anime team didnt give him constant wide eyes like tohru & didn’t fear expr4essivness will affect for his “beauty “ like yuki. (c) kyo was given one ep per season for his issues which altho not much but way better than tohru (d) most important: kyo’s issues are very universal & very relatable” feeling guilt, mistakes & choosing wrong. That’s sth we all do!!! Tohru’s thing is grieve: this is very personal & most ppl experience it differently.

I love kyo’s oufit!!! we have a hint of this moment in se03, ep 10 when yuki was fighting kyo... but they made yuki see them shopping as opposed of him seeing them being sexually charged!

I’m so mad this kyoru moment is cut!!!!!! tohru as a woman with pending sexual emotions is so refreshing & underrated in the trope of “ girl saves guys”. Also, it contradicts the pure mom image that’s been suffocating her since se01 ep 1!!!!! oh now i know why it’s cut... That’s why! momma tohru is so pure for such things & only when it’s the last two eps, then will allow her to be a woman choosing to live away with her man by her own desire! Why the anime only allow things ti happen when there’s no escape!!! I’ve always felt tohru/kyo is the type of couple to be expressive emotionally & sexually with each other based on seeing that ALL of their romantic interaction involves body language & I’m so happy there’s a canon proof so early before the future glimpse in finale!!!!!!

I liked the aya-story, but it felt like the typical “ lesson of the day” formula, so I didnt analyze it much, but I enjoyed the brotherly interaction so much!! It had a gold mine of yuki being himself & so nit a prince! Im so happy I saw it! <3.

Every time yuki looked expressive is a happy moment for me!

Homebrew Q: tell us about currency!! Most common, differences btwn cultures (if any)?? Or alternatively go off abt like any cultural or regional fashion choices 👀

ooh okay currency is fun! I've only got a few developed regions at the moment but here we go!

The city-states on the peninsula and the inland kingdom next to them all use metal coins, with the classic D&D values of copper, silver, etc.

Krathe's coins have until recently been minted with a ship's wheel design to indicate the city's control of the peninsula's sea trade, but with the ascension of the Clockwork King are now minted with a cog. Ship's wheel coins are supposed to be returned to be re-minted, but the two are used interchangeably.

Luma Tower is a giant lighthouse containing temples and a huge repository of knowledge, and uses coins minted with designs honoring the gods of magic, learning, sea travel, and story, among other tokens for use within the tower only.

Jadena is Krathe's rival city-state, controlling the bottleneck at the top of the peninsula for overland trade. Their coins depict cartwheels.

Vreah and Ammery are like Luma Tower in that they only really use coins for imports, but unlike Luma, they barter or trade for domestic goods instead of using an internal token system. Coins from Vreah depict a wreath of wheat and coins from Ammery an acorn, but they're relatively rare.

The currently unnamed kingdom neighboring the peninsula uses crowns.

Klefeth, the kingdom along the river delta in the Great Desert, uses a system of only gold - coins are produced in different weights, and have holes in the middle of different diameters for stringing on a cord. They're a worldwide trade hub so coins from all over find their way in, but import taxes, purchasing major exports, paying for labor, and other official uses must be done with official currency. Anything else is fair game for bartering though, and jewelry is favored.

The northeastern steppes use a paper currency called leaves among the centaur herds and halfling families that primarily inhabit the area, but external trade uses silver bits.

Other regions will use other currencies - I've got another coin system planned with what are essentially pieces of eight, several regions use only bartering, and I'm sure I'll do something different with the regions I haven't built yet. Maybe I'll do something with arm rings or snake fangs...

Could I get some feedback on my dragon species? They’re meant to be semi-aquatic (and I know gills would be unrealistic, that’s one flaw I’m gonna take for… the Aesthetic) and based on the newly discovered Spinosaurus - yknow, with the chonky eel tail.

If you wanna read some stuff I wrote up about them, you can do so here, but it’s also cool if you don’t want to, I’m mostly looking for feedback on the design.

fun design! I like the trout coloring on the one featured here :)

(I’m ignoring the sail along the spine for the sake of focusing on the body, but it looks just fine~)

so the biggest thing that sticks out to me is the spine/torso. generally speaking (unless we’re talking abt a noodley animal like an aquatic snake, eel, etc.), aquatic vertebrates tend to have stiffer spines/torsos (esp perpendicular to their direction of motion, which I will explain more later). this is especially true for limbed animals, who require stability in their shoulders/hips. I’m not quite sure what ur dragon’s direction of motion is, but either way, this means that even the most flexible of aquatic vertebrates usually rest at a straighter, more horizontal position. aquatic animals also tend to be heavier than land animals b/c water holds their weight up for them, so a semi-aquatic dragon would likely require a stiffer, straighter spine to hold their weight up on land

I pulled the head forward/down to better follow the spine’s horizontal line of motion. unless the neck needs to be long/thin to serve some purpose (serving as an extra “limb”, sticking out of the water to survey an area, etc.), then the neck would also likely be somewhat stiff and thick/short to hold the head steady during snapping water movement, and smooth out the transition from head to body for hydrodynamics. I also made the head just a bit bigger b/c it looked a lil too small. I brought the tail up into a horizontal position for the same reason, and b/c it would actively have to be stiffer to serve as a proper paddle for the body

I made the legs much shorter b/c aquatic animals generally don’t require long legs, and longer limbs just cause more drag and hinder hydrodynamics. unless ur dragon is also a great land-sprinter, which would be an odd combination of abilities, but perhaps not necessarily impossible… I also made the legs thicker b/c of the whole “aquatic animals are heavier” thing

now something important to keep in mind for aquatic animals is their direction of motion– which direction they snap their bodies in order to move. aquatic mammals like dolphins and whales snap their bodies in the vertical direction b/c their spine is designed to flex more readily on the up-down plane. fish and aquatic reptiles like crocs snap their bodies in the horizontal direction b/c their spines are designed to flex on the side-side plane. your dragon’s main fin is along the spine, forming a vertical paddle on the tail. this implies that they flex side-side, yet their legs are designed after animals who generally flex up-down. I’m not saying that this is necessarily an impossible design choice b/c I genuinely don’t know. I just think it’s something to keep in mind when planning your dragon’s structure and water vs. land movement– despite the legs being based underneath the body, your dragon likely won’t move on land the same way mammals w/ similar legs would, simply due to their spinal construction

something that rly puzzles me are the leg and side-tail fins. reading your species information, I understand that you don’t want these guys to have webbed feet or use their legs at all for water movement, but most limbed aquatic animals do end up using their limbs for water movement, even if it’s only in small ways, like a quick directional change. I bring this up b/c there’s no reason for the tail to have horizontal side-fins to balance out the body in the water if the limbs are already there to do just that– those fins simply wouldn’t have a reason to evolve into the body plan. plus, despite the fact that you claim the legs aren’t used for water movement, they have fins on them? the only reason those fins would be there is if they were actively used for water movement, like those directional changes I mentioned. webbed toes would be the more evolutionarily viable option of course, but I could at least see fins popping up on the front legs instead of webbed fingers, if the front limbs were being used for dexterous tasks and needed free finger movement (though the fins themselves would still need a redesign)

as for the vestigial wings, more of the upper arm would likely be hidden under the flesh, esp since I’ve bulked the body up more. I also think it would be fun to have the skin on the trailing edge extend farther back on the body, as a nod to their origins being wings. this would also make them more useful as balancing surfaces for the dragon’s body in the water

the gills existing isn’t actually *that* unrealistic to me! sure, you’d have to do some evolutionary finagling to keep the gills while still giving the jaw/ears something to evolve from, but I don’t necessarily think it’s impossible. esp since this is a different world from Earth, where the genetic blueprints and evolutionary history could have very well allowed for both lungs and gills to evolve. the only real trouble is developmental energy constraints– why is energy being spent to develop two whole gas exchange systems instead of just one that behavior could adjust for? but that’s something I’m willing to hand-wave a bit

Okay so I worked rlly hard on this descriptive essay for my english class and my professor ended up saying she didn’t even want to take them up and I was lowkey proud of it so I’m gonna post it here!! It’s abt Crow and Azi so it fits here anyways, so here’s my basically fawning over my angel and my demon for almost 2000 words!!!!

Two figures stand proud in the rare glow of the afternoon sun in London. The man to the right looms tall over onlookers while the man by his side falls more to the stout side of the spectrum. For all intents and purposes, these two are complete opposites.

The shorter of the pair has his hands clasped in front of him with his fingers intertwined. The clothing he wears bears resemblance to the attire worn during the Victorian years, and this causes him to stand out like a sore thumb in the middle of modern day London. He dons a soft, velvety brown waistcoat that fades into the same color of dress pants. The fabric lays flat, void of any and all wrinkles or imperfections, as though by miracle. The shoes on his feet are Oxford cap-toes. Their main top portion is composed of a dark brown while the toe tips are a softer, more bronze leather. Traveling back up his torso, a long, soft beige overcoat sits atop his waistcoat. Underneath both of these is a light blue, almost white dress shirt. He has it buttoned entirely. Around his neck he wears a light brown plaid tartan bow-tie. Hanging from his waistcoat is a small golden pocket watch. A pair of wings is engraved onto the front of the watch. The design is elegant and ornamented, and perfectly encapsulates the overall tone of his outfit. On his right hand he wears a golden signet ring that also bears a pair of wings, and his gold cuff links have the same design.

Past his clothing, the rest of his person carries the same general vibe: a kind, old fashioned gentleman oozing a sort of shopworn elegance. His stomach rounds out slightly, flowing well with the outward pudge of his cheeks. A soft, pleasant smile curves his lips upward. Bright blue eyes glimmer with a joyous life that feels both new and old all at once. His eyes seem to hold the secrets of the universe as well as a hope and thirst to learn and take in more. His cheeks and face are as round as the rest of him. He seems to be composed entirely of soft lines and careful curves. His face is not without the reminders of his age. He bears crow’s feet around his eyes as well as clearly defined laughter lines on either side of his face. Had he widened his smile any further, the lines would surely deepen and give way to a pair of dimpled cheeks. Atop his head sits a well groomed collection of bleach blonde, practically white waves of hair. The soft curls point every which way in tufts that could surely be likened to the soft downy feathers of a freshly fledged young bird.

If one were to stand close enough, they would instantly pick up the mixture of scents clinging to the man’s clothing. The most prominent fragrance would surely be the one that can be likened to that of a local bakery freshly opening its doors in the morning. A mixture of sugary, chocolatey, decadent sweets weave their way into the fabric of his overcoat and follow him like a shadow. If one were to open their mouth, perhaps they would even insist they could taste the confections in the air as he passes by. Underneath this is a layer of what can only be pinned down to the scent that resides between the pages and inside the worn out bindings of old books, the kind of scent that only comes with decades or even centuries of wear and tear. Upon closer inspection into these details, one might pick up on the hint of cocoa sweetness in his breath, or the minty undertones that lie just beneath.

His voice, once spoken, gives a light, airy feel. Every sentence is carried with the cadence and lilt of a song sung on the porches of grand suburban homes in the chill of winter. He enunciates his words with great care. Each syllable strikes as being fully rehearsed and prepared far ahead of time, even when this gentleman is caught off guard. No matter the words he speaks, he still seems to enact a sensation of calm in one’s very bones. The words that roll off his softly spoken tongue are bubbly and honey coated. His voice is the kind that oozes trustworthiness and a sense of peace.

Everything about him seems to be chosen for comfort. The velvet-like feel of his waistcoat along with the soft, smooth material that made up his overcoat settles him in a bubble of warmth. In fact, everything about this man could be described as soft to the touch. Not only does his hair visibly resemble feathery down, but it also has approximately the same texture. Running a hand through the well-arranged curls would feel quite similar to the sensation of curling up with the softest blanket you own and sipping peacefully on a hot drink. His skin, though creased and bearing the lines of its time, remains as supple and silky smooth as ever before.

All of this poses a direct antithesis to the man stood beside him.

This second man stands tall as he glowers over passersby. He shrouds himself in darkness and flaunts this fact to all who dare look his way. His clothing reflected this quite well. What, with a soft, distressed old gray t-shirt underneath a black, low v-cut vest and a just as black woolen pea coat over top of it all, he truly layers himself in the most elegant and refined yet over-the-top sinister fabrics. Each piece of clothing clings to his body like a second skin. This includes his washed out dark gray pants that conform directly to the shape of his legs. Unlike his partner’s own pair, these pants bunch so tightly that creases and wrinkles are inevitable. The glint of a belt buckle catches in the afternoon sun. His belt seems to be made not of leather, but of snakeskin, and the buckle itself depicts the head of the snake that now seems to wind its way around the man’s waist. Traveling down long limbs to meet his feet, one is met with the sight of dark brown, almost black snakeskin dress shoes. Upon closer inspection, it becomes apparent that there is a subtle fade to red the closer you get to the soles.

Perhaps there is one piece of this outfit that does not seem to be squeezing the life out of this fellow, and that would be the strange necklace dangling from his neck. It looks to be made of countless interwoven chains tied together a few inches below his collarbone. The remaining ends hang free and tuck snugly into his vest once the pair meet.

The final touch resides on his face. A pair of designer gunmetal sunglasses perches precariously on the bridge of his slender nose. The circular frames bear closed sides akin to an old pair of welding goggles. They themselves might be cause for a double take, but that double take will likely become a triple take if one happens to catch a glimpse of what lies underneath.

The way his glasses sit allows for one to, at a very specific angle, catch sight of a pair of yellow eyes. His irises seem to be large and of a golden color. Right smack in the middle of each one sits a slitted pupil like that of a snake. Everything about his eyes screams nothing but danger, and the nefarious depths that lie just below the surface bubble up slowly but surely.

Once his eyes are hidden, however, the main point of focus is truly the man’s hair. So much of his outer visage lacks the pop and spice of a splash of color, and the fiery red shade of his hair checks that particular box. The way the sun glints through the strands illuminates his coiffure in a lively blaze. This is clearly a man that cares for his own appearance, and the well-coiffed nature of his hair is a testament to this fact. Trailing down his right side burn leads into a small, curving tattoo of a serpent just by his ear. The mark is subtle, but still threatening in and of itself.

This man, in contrast with the rounded man by his side, seems to be made entirely of sharp corners and fine edges. Everything about him is thin and a bit gangly. His cheekbones poke out with a sharp kick and promptly sink back in to hollow out his cheeks. His chin comes to a fine point just like the tip of his nose. The coat that adheres to his torso bears a pair of angular shoulders, likely due to the natural shape of his body to begin with. Even the scowl curling his lips seems sharp enough to slice you open if you dare come too close. His limbs are long and narrow, and his fingers much the same.

Reaching out to touch this man seems quite dangerous at first glance. One might fear being cut on the harsh angles of his jaw, and there is a slight chance that these fears are founded in truth. Heavily calloused fingers connect to heavily calloused hands, which hang loosely from his pants pockets by his thumbs hooked inside the compartment. His face, though clean shaven, still bears the prickly sensation of growing beard hair. Even his clothing does little in the form of comfort. The heavy chain necklace weighs down on his neck and the scratchy pants squeeze just a bit too tight to be considered for comfort.

If one is able to look past the heavy cloud of top dollar cologne encasing his form, they would likely not be surprised by the spicy kick they are met with. He smells like cinnamon, but not cinnamon sugar. No, this man smells like the biting spice of pure cinnamon, a scent as fiery as the hair atop his head. Think back to the last time you ate an Altoid mint. Remember the refreshing burn it coated your mouth with, and now apply that sensation to this man. Fragrances of old leather and gasoline are also quite prominent, as well as the earthy tones of dirt and grass and a tinge of campfire smoke.

His voice is a sort of hiss. His accent bleeds sin and deceit, and the low rumble of his tone slithers deep into one’s soul and grips it tight for the taking. Words fall from his tongue and wind their way around the listener’s throat. He sounds like duplicity and manipulation, but also all of your deepest desires wrapped up into one package. Your hair will stand on end as you cling to his every word.

By all means, these two men should be polar opposites, and they are, in a sense. Taking them apart separately will surely yield such a response, but the difference comes when they stand together. Stood side by side, they fit together like puzzle pieces. The light balances out the dark. The soft balances out the sharp. Two extremes meet in the middle to create balance.

Perhaps one could take a closer look at their shadows, as well. Perhaps they would be able to make out the clear addition of large, luxurious wings onto their forms. Perhaps it is just a trick of the light, or perhaps it is not.

Touma probably took Levi to some art exhibition and it was boring as shit for Levi but he was just happy to be there, Touma felt bad though and tries to pick better places in the future.

oh god ... uh i’m creative, passionate, ambitious, loyal & individualistic ?? i can be a little too critical at times, and sometimes come off really rude with the way i handle things. i’m a very private person, who comes off very shy, yet standoffish to strangers, but i’m really outspoken, blunt, n sometimes dramatic. i can tend to be a bit of a Mom bc i basically assumed the mom role growing up to take care of my siblings n i’m very stern, sometimes not very flexible n moody.

1. What is your OC’s name? Kimiko Ijichi 2. What is your OC’s gender? DFAB - Cis - she/her 3. What is your OC’s sexual orientation? Demi-asexual! 4. How old are they? I typically rp her as 16, but I like to imagine her in her late teens or early 20s 5. What species are they- human, animal, alien, robot, none of the above? Human 6. What is their family like? Do they have one? Yes! She’s an only child with a mother and father. Gengyo is a very loving and passionate father, though tends to be neurotic, paranoid, and spoils his daughter to no end. Ritsuko is also a loving mother who puts compassion for others as a first priority, but has been struggling with her dysthymia and thus has been a less enthusiastic parent in Kimiko’s life. Kimiko refuses to refer to anyone else as a best friend. Isaki had been with Kimiko since early elementary school. Her typical form of expressing affection was through taunting, and while that did seem odd to Kimiko, Isaki truly did care for and look out for her. They were complete foils of each other; ultimately, they were perfect contrasts. 8. Do they have a partner/significant other? Why are they together/not together? Zak & I are working on a ship, but we have yet to really rp the start of it -- so no. 9. What is their most prized possession? Why is it so important? A ribbon from a beginner’s level riding competition! It was the only competition she rode in, and she only got 7th place (they gave ribbons to all the competitors), but Isaki was there to train her, to cheer for her and put it in a really fancy frame. The framed ribbon is nailed right above her desk at home! 10. Do they prefer to be warm or cold? She prefers to be chilly. 11. If they could only eat one food for the rest of their life, what would it be? No way would she settle for this. 12. Is there anything they’d like to change about themselves physically? Isaki was and always will be her inspiration; but from someone who is living, her father! Although he’s eccentric, he’s the light of her life, as is she to him! 14. Are they a cat person? If not, what would they want if they could have one? When she starts to work as a criminal psychologist with rather dangerous people, authorities would prompt her to keep a taser on her.

23. What’s their fashion sense? Form-fitting comfy young hipster librarian with pastels.

24. What do they think of snakes? Interesting, but keep them away from her or so help me God.

25. What is their biggest pet peeve? Regarding someone as a bad person for mistakes they have made in the past.

26. What is their greatest fear? Not being recognized for her work in her department, and that she won’t be able to help any of her clients or the police force.

27. Do they have any sort of disability, disorder, or health issue? I am thinking about her having dysthymia like her mom, or some other form of depression, since trauma can be “passed down” and she’s gone through a lot. Still trying to figure out where and how that’d fit though. She’s also lactose intolerant if that qualifies here.

28. Who is the person they hate the most in their life? She tries not to hate, and she doesn’t truly hate anyone, but her ex-boyfriend Hoitsu Mifune is someone she really, truly, strongly dislikes.

29. Is there anyone they want to be more like? Isaki. She was always super cheerful, fun-loving, spontaneous, and very go with the flow.

31. Their home is on fire- what do they do? Get out of there according to the fire escape plan she and her family have practiced.

32. Do they like children? Yes!! While rowdy ones tend to annoy her a bit, she still likes them all the same!

33. Would they rather take a short cut or take the scenic route? Depends on where she’s going. If it’s a lazy day with no plans, scenic route always.

34. What’s their strongest belief? If you don’t care for others, you’re not human; you’re a monster.

35. What’s their opinion on lying? It can come in handy from time to time, so long as it’s not meant to harm anyone.

40. What was the hardest decision they ever had to make in their life? Going to see Isaki’s father in the hospital while he was on his death bed.

They were inseparable after that. After Isaki’s death, Kimiko met Hoitsu when she was 15 through a teammate on the tennis team. They were together for nine months before she ended it.

45. Do they have any birthmarks or scars that they’re embarrassed by? She does have some birthmarks running up her legs and some on her chest, but she’s not embarrassed by them.

77. What do their friends/family/teammates find most annoying about them? She’s loud, most jokes go over her head, she’s blunt, and she probably is nosy about their lives. She just has to know if they need her.

79. What are their weaknesses? She has a savior complex; very invasive about personal lives; self-sacrificial; depressed; spoiled. Fun fun.

82. Do they dwell on the past, or live in the moment? OH BOY. She preaches about living in the moment, and accepting and learning from the past to progress in The Now. BUT. She dwells.

83. Why is their main goal so important to them? What set them on that path? Becoming a criminal psychologist interested her at the age of nine; it was said to be an exciting job that paid very well. But after Isaki’s death and evidence to show that she was involved with drug use/dealing and underage gambling, Kimiko changed her mindset. She now wants to become one since she knows criminals are still people. She wants to help them in any way she can, to help them lead healthy lives again.

84. Do they believe that people are inherently good? YES. She’s adamant about it.

87. Is there any other fictional character you would compare them too, personality or appearance-wise? tbh I did start to design her with traits from Ishimaru and Kirigiri. So I guess them?

89. What sort of music do they/would they like? Pop! Soft pop about romance is typically what she listens to when she’s doing her work.

90. What do they consider the worst evil in the world? Abuse, cruelty and neglect to children, as that traumatizes them and sets them up for a difficult life, only to repeat the abuse to their children.

91. What’s the closest they’ve been to dying (or, if they’re already dead, how did they die)? She attempted suicide soon after Isaki’s father died in the hospital, as he was the last of her immediate family who was living. She attempted by hanging, but her knot was lousy and undid itself.

93. Do they like their name? Is there any name they’d rather have? She does! Ijichi is a name rather well-known since her father’s family has an attorneys practice starting with her great grandfather Ijichi.

94. What is the significance of their name? Kimiko ( 君子 ) means “noble child”; Ijichi ( 伊地知 ) I cannot find the meaning of for the life of me. Italy, earth, knowledge? idk

95. Have they ever been bullied? Have they ever bullied anyone? There’s always bullying in the school yard; she’s never been horribly bullied, nor worried too much about it. Isaki was the one who would usually torment others, so Kimiko was just her henchman.

96. Are they a light or heavy sleeper? Average?

97. What do they dream about when they sleep? idk, random things. Dreams are weird.

98. Do they prefer an urban or a rural setting, or something else? She does like rural settings to stay at for a while, but ultimately she’s a big fan of urban settings.

99. Is there any moment or event that they feel defines their life and who they are now? Isaki’s death.

100. Why is this character important? To you, and/or to their world? Oh man. When I get an idea for an OC, it’s always in a short spurt, so pretty much all my OCs are really under-developed. But for whatever reason, I stuck with developing Kimiko. RPing her also helped SO MUCH in terms of figuring out why she is the way she is and adding new traits and perspectives to her. idk. I just love her a lot and I’m glad my pals here like her as much as they do. ;;;

Smooth- i leik, 2 beethoven songs and 1 chopin song otherwise i h a t e because ive been forced to learn it most of my life and its repetitive and pointless to me, also has too many rules with no purpose (double sharps instead of just writing the note) (writing something in a key with 5 flats or sharps and then using naturals for 90% of the notes) sucks man

Baby- im not ready to be a parent!! I feel leik i might be in the future but right now im terrible with kids and theyre kind of annoying sometimes, to much responsibilty an stuff

Lovely- it depends on whos askin! I always try to remember to ask the other person how theyre doing too!

7. What element would your OC be?

Merit: Ohh... the obvious one-to-one is Earth, but it doesn’t actually fit Merit, I don’t think. I think more of Air as an element to fit him, though I couldn’t guarantee why.

Katiah: I want to say Fire, all bright spark and burning passion and all. Earth is also possible, but it also feels on the nose for the dwarf-raised drow.

Zekiel: Also Fire, because although it’s obvious to say for him as a scourge aasimar, it’s also very fitting anyways.

15. If your OC could have any pet, what would they choose? Why?

Merit: A fox, as his favorite animal to witness and one of the favorites to interact with. He’s maybe seen a psuedodragon before in Court and would love interacting w/one, however he currently doesn’t know much/anything abt them.

Katiah: A well-trained raven or hound, for usefulness as well as cuddles and shenanigans. Or a flying snake, which she’s heard of but has yet to see and she wants to see them badly.

Zekiel: A lion maybe? Which feels too on point because 1) circus man 2) I liken Z to a lion once in awhile, but out of the beasts he’s probably seen and knows about? A lion fits, and it’d kick ass to befriend one and let it also maul a guy’s face off.

40. Your character is getting ready for a night out. Where are they going? What do they wear? Who will they be with?

Merit: A night out for celebration and drinks, with his party, and wearing probably a variant of his usual vest/poofy shirt/tight pants, but how much more fancy and accessorized it is depends on where exactly they’re going, or just Merit’s mood at the time.

Katiah: Out on some official ball or professional meeting as a representative of her Guild, likely with guildmates, and wearing nicer jewelry and fine dark blue and cyan colored clothing, both robes and jewels very art deco Dwarven in design influence.

Zekiel: Not unlike Merit, likely for drinks and partying at some tavern somewhere, with at least Yulia and likely some others from the troupe, and wearing some clothes that are simple on their own but increased with various smudged paints and gleaming headband and few rings like he has, some beautiful and mildly disconcerting paint designs on his face.

43. What was the most offensive thing your character had ever said?

Merit: I’m sure there’s been something worse he’s said in-game, but all I can think of is like early on, in one of the first visits to a city we ever made, I remember someone getting distracted by s/t shiny in a shop, and Merit stopping them and being like “Come along now, there’s more, even shinier things elsewhere.” in front of the shopkeep.

Katiah: Hmmm, I’m not sure exactly, but she’s... rather blunt, so even if her words aren’t offensive, they can sound a bit biting.

Zekiel: I’m also not sure for Z here, but he doesn’t take much of anyone seriously until they prove themselves in some way to him, which doesn’t exactly lead to offensive things said but offense can be taken.

guardian omegaverse post bc i thought a lot abt it

ok so Guo Changcheng the newbie to the Special Investigation Department is definitely an omega. zhou picked him for his uncanny luck and hope that he'd grow to be more confident (also omega solidarity but he's too tsun to say it flat out.) I genuinely don't know if Chu Shu Zhi is a Hard Beta but he's stoic, tough, and protects Guo like his own brother so maybe. Also he kneels to the Black-Cloaked Envoy alone due to personal debts but I hc the Envoy has no scent when he's transformed so whatever he is has no affect on his level of respect. I'll cover the Envoy's haters in Dixing later.

Wang Zheng is also an omega who forgot abt her loving alpha Sang Zan locked away in a rock for 100 years which is almost as fucked up of a love story as Zhou Yunlan's love story but we'll get to that last. The way Sang Zan reacted when the villagers killed the love of his life? Classic alpha wishing to protect a cherished omega (though, I sincerely despise the writers for killing her off first bc thats such a shitty writing choice). They get to be together as semicorporeal ghosts (receptionist and librarian respectively) tho so their ending isn't so bad.

Zhu Hong the Snake lady is clearly an alpha. She starts the show protective of Wang Zheng and held her own against the face-snatching guy bc she was determined to protect the SID she loves. She is genuinely loyal to Zhou Yunlan bc he offered her a life that wasn't just the life the Snake Tribe will force onto her if she comes back (getting married and having babies). She loves adventure and takes her assignments seriously, as long as she can have some fun along the way. She CAN be bribed with food.

Da Qing the cat is a beta. He's loyal to Zhou Yunlan but unused to being in charge and eats all of Zhou's snacks bc he's Too Old For This Shit. He's not the greatest in a fight but loves sneaking and spying and hanging out with other cats. He's better at thinking on the spot than Guo, but has a much shittier memory than the newbie. Guo at least keeps a diary, whereas the cat had to get hypnotized to remember stuff.

The scientist Lin Jing is also a beta. He has airs of grandeur which Zhou routinely cuts down to size with "this invention doesn't work" or "stop slacking off I will cut your monthly bonus" or fun things like that. He is an alright scientist in his field, designing various gadgets when the SID needs them. He also covered the "technical" crime scene investigations when the rich teenagers went missing from bathtubs. He is lazy and prefers to goof off, once making a popcorn machine for the rest of the department to snack on bc the case just got solved. He admires Shen Wei a lot as a scientist and wishes that just once, his boss would praise him before the esteemed professor.

Zhou Yunlan is an omega who wanted to save his mom from the Dixingians one traumatic day, but his shitty alpha father said "no I can handle this" and then missed the goddamn shot and got his wife blown up into pieces. From that day on Yunlan despised both his father and people from Dixing and resolved to escape his father's job. However his father working in the gov't he was left with little choice than to lead the SID which was filled with people who didn't respect him or obey his orders. So he fired them all and hired carefully to create a new SID that was actually his surrogate family bc he disowned his shitty father.

Zhou Yunlan is messy and flippant and appears to be careless and sloppy in his work, but as Shen Wei notes he is actually very thorough and brilliant. He puts up the messy and rebellious front to spite his father and cause his enemies to underestimate him. See also: the time he pretended to be hypnotized by Jiu Zhu. He believes that no one would want him as a partner and is great at charming people into joining his side, but fears intimacy.

Shen Wei is a quiet, reserved, and distant alpha. He probably has many people trying to flirt with him at meetings, but coldly and calmly rejects them bc he's still somewhat heartbroken. As a professor, he wants his students to succeed in their studies and as the Highness of Dixing he wants his people to live long and prosperously. He has a strong sense of justice yet doesn't defend himself from being mugged on the way home from a lecture bc he doesnt want to cause suspicion on Haixing.

As Zhou Yunlan points out later, he seems hard and distant yet is actually very soft and kind. He is very protective of Zhou Yunlan, giving up his secret identity as the Envoy in order to protect Yunlan. He feels guilt over letting Yunlan die 10,000 years ago and wants to prevent that from happening again, starting by forbidding Yunlan from touching the Holy Hallows which will corrode his body.

Not that that worked out, but whatever.

I think when Yunlan lost his sight, he convinced Shen Wei to have sex with him and Shen Wei said yes bc he is so worried abt Yunlan. He doesn't expect to feel the intimacy he missed thousands of years ago, following Zhou's suggestions to make sure he enjoys it, and once they've both finished he murmurs something about "never thought I'd be able to please you like that again." Zhou feels tears, and reaches up slowly to wipe them away.

"That was our first time, you dork," he teases. After a few more times sleeping together Zhou wants them to mark each other as mates (he wanted to do that the moment he first met the professor tbh). Shen Wei reaches for the place he'd marked Zhou 10,000 years ago and Yunlan flinches.

"That's... I have an awkward birthmark there. It's shaped a lot like a mating mark," Yunlan explains. Shen Wei looks like he's just seen a ghost. He never stopped loving Yunlan during those 10,000 years, so the mark he made remained. But that birthmark caused all of Yunlan's previous partners to think he was cheating on someone with them. It was that similar to an actual mark.

That's why he had low self-esteem with dating until he met Shen Wei.

Shen Wei asks to see the birthmark bc he might have caused it. Yunlan laughs and says there's no way Shen could have made it... unless they were lovers in a previous life. Which halfway hits the nail on the head. And that's the true way Shen Wei explains his past history with Zhou Yunlan, instead of however the show says it's done.

Then they actually get mating marks, Yunlan choosing the same place he chose 10,000 years ago and Shen renewing his old mark. It's very emotional for both of them. Zua Hong notices the marks as soon as they walk into the office the next morning. Guo is surprised but congratulates them nonetheless. I was going to do the rest of the SID reacting but I forgot the best part so I'm going to cover that now.

The people in Dixing know that the King of Dixing is traditionally a strong, healthy alpha who literally works themself to death over the course of 3-6 years. Shen Wei thinks this is fucked up but since Dixing is an incredibly traditionalist society he'd have revolts against him if he tried to change that.

The Justiciar is...... I don't know honestly. I think of him as an evil old lost grandpa who destroys books for the sake of preventing the Envoy from enacting justice up on the surface. He's a conniving little bastard who bides his time and plants suspicions and frays trust between people. Great at starting rumors.

The three people who Zhou Yunlan threw the Justiciar into before yelling "he has a contagious fatal disease" are an alpha/beta/omega trio. The kid who recently got crowned to die as King was the alpha of the trio and volunteered himself bc he felt it was his duty to protect the other two.

No one knows what the Envoy is when he's in his Royal Black Cloak wielding what might be a guandao, and the rumors are wild and contradictory. His evil twin Ye Zun, an omega, is responsible for starting the rumor that the Envoy is an omega who fell in love with a king once and now wants to end the practice, forcing Shen Wei to lie thru his teeth abt supporting the whole thing. Ye Zun has a gold mask instead of a black one, and silver hair. He's really beautiful even though he was locked in an ancient evil rock for trying to harm Dixing or something (it wasn't explained yet but I predict that or killing past Zhou Yunlan or both are his crimes).

He orchestrated Jiu Zhu's crimes on the surface and attempted to steal the Longevity Dial directly from Zhou Yunlan. He's hellbent on ruling Dixing as a fascist dictator once he gets rid of his brother. Zhou Yunlan makes fun of him anyways, asking "why do you look just like my Envoy?"

This tells Ye Zun all he needs to know abt this new version of Zhou Yunlan and tbh I'm worried abt the Boyfriends now so. Rant ovee
