alright, guess we're complaining now.

Tumblr, this change is bad. A lot of other people have already shared their own complaints for this new and awful system, but it's time for me to properly throw my hat in the ring instead of at-ing you directly due to user error. Whoops.
[UPDATE 6/11/2023] HORRIBLE NEWS, EVERYONE! This change has hit mobile. There is no longer any way to access the previous version of a post except through theme reblog chaining on desktop. I've added some extra fun comments both as an edit to this post and as a reblog so nobody misses out.
All my complaints are in the read more because this got LONG.
TL;DR- This change breaks a major signifier used across the site, removes post functionality only to replace it with redundant blog links, and completely destroys a primary mode of social interaction that's been used on Tumblr for over a decade. Here's the Tumblr Staff support link so you can give feedback on how bad this change is.
Part One: Signifiers and Consistency
This is my biggest point, so it will be a bit of a doozy. Strap in.
This change is about making Tumblr operation 'intuitive and consistent' by unifying behavior between like-designed parts of the site. Now on the face that's not a bad reason to do things, and making sure users are able to intuit what a button does based on its properties is good design. I'll give an example:
Hearts symbolize the 'Like' function on Tumblr. The heart button on a post adds it to your Likes, the Likes option on your account is accompanied by that same heart, and Likes show up in post notes with that heart. This heart, then, becomes a consistent and reliable signifier. If you see a heart button on Tumblr, then whatever it's attached to probably has something to do with Likes.
So, back to the change. This change relates to the signifier of the 'Tumblr blog url link'. The idea is thus- on other parts of the site, such as the Search tab on mobile and on a blog in the dashboard tray, you will see related or similar blog suggestions like these:

These suggestions are Tumblr blog urls paired with their icon and a little bit of their blog, either the title or some recent posts of theirs. If you click on that url title, the link follows through to that blog. So there's the signifier: click on the url, go to the blog.
But now we have a bit of a snag. What about these?

Well, these LOOK like Tumblr blog url links. They're styled in the same way. In fact, the reblogger even has a blog icon next to it! So all signs point to these url links pointing directly to a Tumblr blog if clicked on. After this change, that's exactly what they do- so, like, no problem, right?
But, hold on. There's another signifier here! These aren't JUST Tumblr blog url links! This is…

Our good friend, the Reblog button! That's another classic Tumblr signifier, and it sits right next to the Like button I pontificated about. Reblogs are an integral part of Tumblr, and on top of every single reblogged post you will see that icon. And would you look at that- it's even the same color as the second url link!
Those url links that established the 'url link' signifier that we talked about before, in the search page and on the dashboard tray, aren't attached to any posts. But this url is, and the reblog symbol is right next to it. The reblog signifier modifies the url link signifier. This link should go to the reblog from this user. Right? Because it is a reblog FROM that url link- so that's where it should go! And that's where it used to go, before this update.
[EDIT] I came back to fix some typos I noticed but while I was away I tested mobile to see if this change hit the app yet. It has not, but what I saw instead confirmed the above point- on mobile, selecting the reblogged's url ALSO highlights the reblog icon next to it! These two signifiers are connected, and should be read together.
By changing the url links to be more 'consistent' with other url links across the site, a major signifier that keeps the site together has been broken entirely. What should lead to a reblog- something that is clearly shown through use of a recognizable, consistent symbol- no longer does.
Part Two: Redundant Redundancy
Okay, so that's not all this change does. It also adds a brand new functionality to the post header- the white space is now clickable and serves as a replacement for the original 'to this post' link on the reblogger's side of things. These headers also generate for anyone who adds to the post, and you can click through OP too.

This is also part of that design unity thing; on mobile tapping anywhere on the post header takes you to the post, and you can only tap on the blog url of the person the reblogger reblogged from. That makes sense, since on mobile you're maneuvering your fingers on a small screen and tapping a tiny url next to another tiny url is bound to cause problems.
I don't necessarily have a problem with this on the base of it. I have opinions about mobile and desktop parity that aren't really important here, but it does nicely showcase an issue I DO have- most of the changes made to reblogged posts are completely redundant and unnecessary.

[UPDATE] This change has hit mobile now, and it's added a fun new complaint about desktop-mobile parity that is now very suddenly a problem; the headers generated from reblogs with content don't have any responsive feedback for tapping them on mobile. OPs does, but any old Joes doesn't. This is not true on desktop, where on-hover a post header will change color; on mobile they stay completely white and plain with no on-tap color change. On top of that, the new headers are actually harder to see on mobile! There's no clear way to actually see where the header starts and the post continues! Tapping a header was deeply confusing because I got no confirmation I did anything of value until I was wisked away to a post- there's no signifier on mobile that this is a thing you can press.
This is what I was talking about in regards to desktop and mobile parity that wasn't important at the time- what's good for mobile isn't always good for desktop and vice versa. Having a post header be tappable on mobile instead of op's url link, where you have less fine motor control and there's a lot of small buttons clustered together, makes sense; but making all post headers into buttons on desktop isn't a good idea because they aren't 'buttons' and it's very hard to make it clear they are. I mentioned signifiers above and that applies to this change- there just aren't enough signs that show these are all buttons now and where they go. The fact that they're completely unresponsive on mobile really is the cherry on top, because you do not KNOW it's a button unless you tap it accidentally or already know from desktop that all headers link to reblogged posts. The design has been made more confusing; what was a functional affordance on mobile has been applied to desktop without limits or concern, making the original mobile affordance more confusing and producing a poor signifier.
Alright, that's enough from future me. Let's get back to the original post, about how this change that introduces a bad signifier is also redundant.

First of all, it's not like clicking the link url just threw you into a post abyss when you clicked it. Clicking through to a reblog…still took you to that blog, both on mobile and on desktop. On mobile all you need to look through the blog proper is to pull down and refresh; on desktop it's even easier, because following a link pulls up the dashboard tray for that blog with the blogs url immediately below their icon.

This change then removes one step to get to the front of a blogs page, and puts the original longer path on the new clickable header. They go to the same place, the first is just exactly one click faster. You could do the exact same thing by clicking the user icon instead.
But wait! We can get even more redundant! You know what else is standard Tumblr functionality on desktop? The hover card!

If you hover over any url link for about a second, a card for that blog will pop up. This tray lets you follow a blog, send asks, report them, check their popular posts and do a bunch of stuff straight from the dashboard. It also takes you directly to their blog if you click the url link on the card itself! That's right, there was already a way to go directly to the blog the previous user reblogged from! And every single blog url link does this, too- not just on post headers, but even in the text of a post itself.
So before this change, you had five ways of interacting on a post:
Click the reblogger's url > Reblogger's post.

One of these is redundant, but that's fine- it's just how url links work, and it's better that all urls can do that. Signifiers, we talked about this. But every other link goes to a different place, including the previous version of the post.
After this change, there's six, with changes in bold:

We now have three ways of getting to the blog of the person who reblogged this post, two ways to get to the blog of the person they reblogged from, ONE way to get to the post, and ONLY if someone added to it!
This change removes functionality and replaces it with needless redundancy. As I said near the top of this section, we could already get to the blog through a reblog link- so all this does is remove getting to previous post iterations.
Part Three: Broken Chains
And hey, let's talk about previous post iterations. Y'know, something that's super important on Tumblr? Different versions of a post float around the site for years- some have been around for a decade or more. And some are only available for one post.
As I'm sure everyone knows, unless a group of tags are peer reviewed and added to the body of the post itself or are appended to the next reblog in the chain, they only exist on that version of the post. This means every iteration of a post is functionally unique, and long before we were given the ability to check the tags on a reblog directly, the only way you could check the tags for a post was by checking every iteration. This practice still exists today with 'prev tags'- users still find it useful to gesture to a previous version of a post and show what other people were thinking or add their own thoughts.
Remember the new redundant links? All that means you can't get to a previous version of a post anymore. Those tags are functionally lost now, unless you dig through that persons blog or through all the notes of a specific post. Sure that may not be a problem for a post with 300 notes or so- but what about 27,000? What about a post that was reblogged three weeks ago? If you're trying to wrangle Tumblr's dodgy search function on the blog itself, what if the post has no text to search for, or if the blog has it's search function turned off? Any post tagged with prev tags now directs to literally nothing. Anyone arguing or conversing in the tags is now speaking at air to everyone else.
There is still one way to trace reblogs. You can access the blog itself- not the dashboard tray, but the actual url.tumblr.com blog- by using a hidden link in the meatball menu off the side of the post.

From there, you can track a post backwards through proper blogs. The reblogged posts will have a 'via Blog' note on them, and you can follow that trail all the way up a chain.
…Unless someone doesn't have a theme enabled. Without a theme, a user won't have a url.tumblr.com domain and it will redirect to the dashboard tray, breaking the chain. And, as of an older update, blogs by default do not have themes enabled- so any and all new users suddenly roadblock this process. Oops.
All of this means that what was once a convenient social aspect of Tumblr has been completely severed with little to no alternative. Trying to wade through hundreds upon hundreds of notes to find the one you're looking for is tedious, time consuming, and potentially impossible if the post is large enough.
Finale: What Now?
Right, so- this sucks. I didn't even go into how this makes it tough to find and block cr/pt/t/rfs if a post passes into their hateful space, or how this makes it harder to copy post links without tracking shit because it's in a different menu now, or how it's now more difficult to access a previous post for reporting purposes. All that shit's also true, but they're side effects of the big three problems the changes introduce.
This change is ultimately user-hostile and seems to follow the worrying trend of 'other sites are doing it, so let's do it too!' Tumblr's been kicking about recently. Tumblr Live, the new change to images and videos, gating viewing posts behind making an account, and attempted algorithm feeds through 'Best Stuff First' and 'Based On Your Likes' are what immediately come to mind. Tumblr's defining, driving aspect for it's continued existence has and always will be its uniqueness. Pretending to be Instagram and TikTok and fucking Twitter will do it absolutely no favors- all it does is undermine what actually makes this site, as a social platform, interesting and vibrant.
But it's one thing to just complain and it's another entirely to provide feedback. Here's a link to the Tumblr Staff support page. They've walked back on new features before when we've made a ruckus- the Shop icon replacement is on the forefront of my mind right now- so it's time to make another.
TL;DR 2- This change makes browsing Tumblr more difficult than it needs to be. It breaks previously established signifiers and removes vital social functions only to add redundant and empty features to cater to a new userbase instead of actually improving the site for the users they already have. It's not a good change.

Custom theme:
This is a relatively recent change. There is two ways to view a blog, in dashboard (which is automatically available to everyone) and on your custom theme. Custom theme gets you your own tumblr blog page that allows you to access the archive feature. In order to get a custom theme, you must toggle this option:
[Accessed through clicking on your little account settings icon>settings>your blog name under "Blogs"]
You will then see this second option on your blog:
It will bring you to your own tumblr blog page. Yours will not look like this. I have a custom theme that makes it look like a computer screen. You can make your own, even if all you change is blog colors instead of finding a fancy one. Additionally, if you wish you can also make a fucked up mouse like the one above. You will have to find the tutorials to make your own mouse, I recommend saving a copy of your blog's html in case you fuck this step up.
Archive:
You can only get this function through the custom theme option! If you have this enabled you can access it through the meatball menu on your blog and it will bring you to a page like this where you can sort through by month, post type, and tags.
Tagging:
Add tags through clicking this button v
You can add tags to both reblogs and original posts that help organize your interests. For example if you have a tag called "art", and you click on that while on your blog you will filter to only have "art" posts.
Additionally tagging can be commentary too! Some people prefer to comment on posts through the tags instead of adding to the reblog chain or in the replies.
WARNING: REBLOGGING IS DIFFERENT FROM REPOSTING. REBLOGGING SPREADS THE POST AROUND AND THE OP WILL STILL GET ALL THE NOTIFICATIONS ON THE POST. REPOSTING IS COPYING THE CONTENT AND MAKING YOUR OWN POST WITH THE CONTENT.
Filtering:
You can filter tags and keywords on tumblr if you go to settings and scroll down to "Content you see". Filter out things you don't want to see or are cluttering your dash and you are not particularly interested in.
Read mores:
If your post is getting very long, its a curtsy to add a "read more" button. You can also add one by typing :readmore: on the mobile app (?). Posts can get very long and its hard to scroll through the mobile app without the desktop's shortcuts to next post.
However, many people are mischievous and will make purposely long posts and reblog them many times in a row. This is also fine, but people will often tag these posts as "#long post" so it can be filtered.
Additionally, turn your following and likes page private. This prevents people from digging into your tumblr activity. Some people may use the likes page to see if you are a real person instead of a bot so MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A PROFILE PHOTO AND A BLURB SO THEY DON'T NEED TO.
Xkit is a useful add-on to chrome or firefox and allows you to customize tumblr even further. I use mine to get back the old way of looking at posts (it brings you to the specific post by clicking on the url) instead of the new hit boxes and the time and date button on the meatball menu. There's also a couple accessability features on here, like putting the alt text for images in the post, and volume and audio controls among many others.

DOs & DON'Ts
DO reblog posts!! regardless of whether or not you add a comment, either in the post itself or in the tags, the OP will get notifications of everyone who likes the post via your reblog and who reblogs it from you! comment as much or as little as you like
DON'T repost things! fanart, fanfiction, etc. this is different from reblogging, a repost is when you copy/save the work to your computer and reupload it in a post of your own, rather than reblogging it
DO follow tags as well as other blogs!! really like one specific character from a tv show? a certain ship? search their name and follow the tag, and you'll see posts that mention or tag them even if you don't directly follow the person who made that post
DON'T rely too much on the search function, it's broken. if you want to search someone's blog for a tag, you're better off going to the URL: tumblr.com/[blogname]/tagged/[tag]
DO tag liberally! you can use the tags to add comments that you don't want to directly add to the post, to make it easier for people to search your blog, or to make it easier for yourself to find things later on
DON'T use tiktok censorship speak when tagging things!! it will make it actively more difficult for people seeking to avoid certain topics. instead of "tw: abu$e" just tag "abuse" and anyone who has blacklisted the tag "abuse" will not see your post.
similarly, DON'T tag things like "epilepsy" - instead, tag "flashing lights" so people can still use the epilepsy tag to discuss epilespy without risking seeing triggering flashing lights
DO use the follow and the block buttons liberally! this site has absolutely no algorithm, so it is entirely up to you to curate your space exactly how you want it!
DON'T send hate to people via the askbox on their blog, either anonymously or not. just block people who annoy you or post horrible things
DO participate in polls! tumblr only got them recently, less than a year ago, and people immediately went ham. vote on stupid things like which bug emoji is superior, which ship is the best, and how much vanilla extract should go in a cake! but remember that you cannot edit the original poll after you post it
DON'T use or endorse "AI" generators like chatgpt! don't reblog AI images and or AI endings to unfinished/abandoned fanfictions
DO cite your sources if you want to educate people on something in a post, we all love to learn, and informative posts on everything from current political events to which geodes could be made into useable dildos, but misinformation is prolific, so make sure anyone reading your information can refer to a real source!
jargon
notes - likes, reblogs (with or without comments or tags) and replies to a post are all agregated to give the number of notes, which is basically the number of times a post has been interacted with
OP - the Original Poster of a post, for example, me, aj-lenoire, with this post. i am op.
hellsite - tumblr itself. this website is insane and unprofitable and broken and we wouldn't have it any other way. hellsite can be either (affectionate) or (derogatory) and often both at once
blorbo - your favourite character, your rotten soldier, your sweet cheese, your good time boyy. post about them frequently and with weird, frenzied gusto
squick - something you personally don't like, such as a ship or a character or a trope, but is not actually bad or harmful - it's just not for you. it squicks you out.
blacklisting means you've blocked a specific tag rather than a blog/person. for example, if you don't want to see anything with spiders, blacklist the tag "spiders" so you don't see any! if someone you follow reblogs a post and tags it with "spiders", or the OP of the post tagged it with "spiders" then your dashboard will hide the post from you and tell you it was tagged with "spiders" and you can choose whether or not to view it
passing peer review means you added commentary to a post in the tags, and someone who reblogged that post from you saw your tags and thought they were funny, so decided to screenshot them and add them as a comment so everyone could see them. congratulations!!
breaking containment is when a post about a niche subject and/or from a blog with not many followers gets super popular because it's funny, and often OP despairs at how their notifications become unusable from the sheer number of notes from this one post
KUNGPOWPENIS - if someone posts something bigoted, tumblr will ban together to reblog, one letter at a time, k-u-n-g-p-o-w-p-e-n-i-s. only do this when the bigot is the OP, because only the original poster will get a flood of single-letter reblog notifications from every single branch of the reblog chain
tips & tricks
pornbots and bots in general are not uncommon here. whenever you get followed by someone, check to make sure they're not a bot by visiting their blog. if they only have a few reblogged posts on random topics, or no posts at all, and their profile picture is a beautiful woman, they're a bot, and you should flag and block them
old posts can and do get reblogged and liked all the time, there's no point at which it becomes cringe to interact with a post. we even have some from 10+ years ago that're considered 'tumblr heritage'
long posts will cross your dash from time to time, the most infamous being colour of the sky. you will see it and it will madden you with how far you have to scroll - inflict your followers with the same frustration by reblogging so they can see it too!! if you're on desktop, pressing j will skip to the next post.
read more allows you to shorten a post with a 'click to read more' link that takes the reader to the root post on your blog. this is especially handy if you're publishing fanfiction or a very long analysis of something.
toggling reblogs lets you choose whether a post is rebloggable or not, for example something personal you may want to delete later, turning off reblogs means there won't be any copies floating around after you delete the root post
follower count is not visible! the only way anyone will know how many followers you have is if you tell them. follow blogs based on whether you like what they post, not by whether they're super popular or not
memes are frequent and long-lasting. tumblr plays with jpegs like dolls and there are some memes that have been here for years. a current favourite is the destiel confession meme which has warped into a shorthand for breaking weird news

pride month - june, tumblr is generally a very pro-queer space, so expect everything to be decked out in rainbows for the entirety of june and most of the rest of the year, too!!

what sort of information will you be wanting with the application? will there be a 'preserver' discord to chat with everyone before acceptance, or will it be submitted separately and if you're accepted, you'll get the invite?

It will be a pretty standard roleplay application, with a section asking for the applicants information (preferred name, tumblr url, discord name, etc) and then an application for your starting character!
The second section will ask for basic information on your character so that we get a good idea on who they are and how they can fit into the group. This will also include a question asking for a roleplay sample as well as a section for extra notes if you would like to include something about your character that doesn't fit in any other section OR if you would like to request something about them that you aren't sure can be assumed as ok.
All questions on this application will be answered before you are added! As for the invitations, only those who are accepted will be given invites to a discord at the end of the acceptance period (may take a few days after the official closing so that reviewing can be done).

Why is almost every single "introject culture is" or even just introject related account I see always pro endo??
I fear I may know the reason why, but regardless, it makes us, a introject heavy sys, feel very insecure, and it's just !!! really?? what the fuck! :[
We've been considering making an "introject culture is" account ourselves that is anti endo, but we chickened out and so now we just have an empty tumblr account with a Used album as it's url, lol

I have no idea why they’re always pro-endo, but the anti-endo blog idea is good!

If you feel like you can manage the blog, then do so, otherwise don’t worry about it! Your mental health comes first rather than running a blog and it’s okay to have days where you just can’t run it!

@feudalconnection & @inu-mothership have partnered together to bring you an all new fun-filled way to enjoy the Inuyasha fandom! This November, we will be hosting a modified bingo to aid the creative process and give rise to new fanfiction, fanart, and other creations to share with this wonderful community!

What is Bingo Bonanza?
With dwindling participation in Inuyasha fall events in recent years, Bingo Bonanza was created as a fun, new twist to aid the creative process and give rise to new fanfiction, fanart, and other creations to this whole community!
Who are the moderators for Inuyasha Bingo Bonanza?
Inuyasha Bingo Bonanza is brought to you by a collaboration between FeudalConnection & Inu-Mothership Discord servers. If you ever have any questions about the event, we urge you to reach out to any of the moderators and we will make sure your concerns are answered in a timely manner.
How do I sign up?
You don’t! At least not in the traditional sense. Once the website has been updated, head over to https://inu-library.com and sign in with either Discord, Tumblr, or Twitter. Once signed in, just navigate to the Bingo Bonanza tab to receive your first bingo card. It is that simple!
Do I have to join the Leaderboard?
Nope! To be on the Leaderboard, and in the running for prizes, you need to opt-in (there will be an option to join the leaderboard on the bingo page). You will not be added to the Leaderboard without your consent.
Why is there so much emphasis on the rules if it isn’t about competition?
To reiterate, you do not have to compete. That is completely optional. We do want to make sure that the rules are clear to those who do want to compete, though. This way, everyone knows what is expected going into the event and that there are no surprises once everything is over. If you are not competing, then just use the bingo card(s) as prompts to help guide what you write.
Can I get a new card if I don’t like the one I have?
Absolutely! We want this to be a fun and engaging event for everyone who wants to participate, and give you the option to switch out your bingo card if you’re not keen on the 24 prompts the card includes. However, once a card has been started, you will not be able to get a new card until you finish your current one by completing a bingo.
What are the days for the theme weeks?
The days are 1-7, 8-14, etc. This will leave 2 days unaccounted for, and for these 2 days, all bonuses will apply!
How do I submit my squares/finished works?
Once you have completed and posted the work, click on the corresponding square to be prompted to enter the URL and submit!
Are there any rules about what we are allowed to write?
The only rule is that all works must adhere to the Inu-Mothership and FeudalConnection’s rules! The method in which Inuyasha Bingo Bonanza was created was to allow participants freedom of creativity. You can write about whatever your heart desires, and you can participate as little or as much as you want!
What are FeudalConnection and Inu-Mothership’s rules for pairings?
We do not support any incestual relationships or any relationships that pair a minor with an adult. Those creations will not be recognized by Inuyasha Bingo Bonanza.
What happens once I get a Bingo?
Congratulations! We’re so happy that this event has been able to spur your creativity! The square that completes the bingo will receive a 2 x points bonus on top of any other bonus. At this point, the option is presented to continue working on that same card (weekly bonuses will be added, but no more bingo 2 x bonus will be given) or a new card could be generated to work on.
Will there be a Free Space?
Yes! The middle square of each Bingo Card will be considered a “Free Space”. You will still need to submit something to claim the square, but you may use it for whatever you can come up with!
How does the scoring actually work?
Each square will be associated with a single work and the work will be assigned points based on three different categories. However, a work can be associated with more than one square
Difficulty:
The initial points assigned will be based on difficulty with the possibility of 4, 8, or 12 points.
500 words and under, sketches, etc = 4pts
501-2000 words, line art, etc = 8pts
Over 2000 words, colored art, etc = 12pts
Weekly Bonus:
The fic gets a multiplier of either 25 or 50% if it incorporates one of the weekly bonuses. Only one bonus per work. If the work touches on both a 25 and 50% theme, then the 50% will be given.
Example of scoring:
Week 1: 250-word story (4 pts) about Shiori (25% bonus) and Jinenji (50% bonus)
As the character who earns the higher bonus, only Jinenji would be counted, thus 4 + 2 for 6 points total
Bingo:
If the square finishes a bingo (vertical, horizontal, diagonal, or four corners plus the free space) then it will receive an additional 2 x current score bonus!
Card completion:
If the square is the last square on your bingo card, then it will receive an additional 4 x current score bonus!
What are the themes each week?
Week 1: Rare Characters
Create a piece in which the main character is someone not often seen in fandom creations. Time to give some love to our lesser-known characters. If you need some ideas, feel free to reach out to the community!
No bonus: Inuyasha, Kagome, Sesshōmaru, Kikyō, Naraku, Kagura, Miroku, Sango, Shippō, Kōga, Moroha
25% bonus: Jaken, InuKimi, Tōga, Izayoi, Rin, Ayame, Shiori, Hōjō, Bankotsu, Jakotsu, Kanna
50% bonus: everyone not mentioned
Week 2: Rare Pairs
Create a piece in which the main characters in the narrative are not characters often seen in fandom creations. Want to see those rare friendships? How about enjoying some family interactions? Or that rare romantic pairing that doesn’t have enough content? This fandom is filled with relationships that often aren’t touched upon - let’s explore! Pairs must follow the rules of FeudalConnection and Inu-Mothership.
No bonus: InuKag, SessKag, Sess&Rin, KogKag
25% bonus: MirSan, SessKagura, TogIza, InuKik, KogAya, KagKik, InuKog
50% bonus: all other pairings
Week 3: Black and White
Time to either make your characters suffer (Black) or make their teeth ache with fluffy sweetness (White). Whether you want to write about your favorite villain, enemies/rivalries, or just want to beat up on your favorite punching bag, pick your whump! Or if you enjoy the other end of the spectrum, feel free to indulge in your favorite romantic or platonic pairings in fluffy settings.
No bonus: Angst, Minor Character Death, Holding Hands, Sweet Compliments, Blushing
25% bonus: Enemies, Rivals, Major Character Death, Betrayal, Proposal, Snuggles & Huggles, Sensual Seduction
50% bonus: Dark Themes, Gore, Horror, Torture, Kisses (romantic or platonic), Meet Cute, Making Love
Week 4: Mix ‘n Match
Combine some tropes and AUs in order to earn bonuses! They can come from either here or here, and offer a wide variety of options to spur those creative juices.
No bonus: One or two tropes/AUs used
25% bonus: Three tropes/AUs used
50% bonus: Four or more tropes/AUs used
Do I have to participate in the themes each week?
No. You are not required to participate in any of the themes each week. They are simply there to offer an additional challenge for more points, and to help spark creativity. If you want to write all of your pieces centered on InuKag, SessKag, platonic fluff, etc., we are all for it!
Do I have to submit the bonuses during the week of topic? (i.e.: during Rare Pair, Rare Character, etc Week)
Yes! You do have to post and submit your piece during the week in which the bonus occurs.
Does it have to be a new work of fiction? Or can it be a new chapter on an existing work?
New chapters for stories already started will be accepted. However, don’t forget that the bonuses are only that - multipliers. The work will still need to fulfill the theme of one of the squares on the bingo card.
What are the prizes?
At the end of November, the top creator will receive a prize, which will be a commissioned art piece that this year’s mod-team will supply from one of the winners’ favorite artists. In addition to that, three people will be chosen at random to receive the same prize. In order to be in the running for random selection, all you need to do is complete a single work and submit it to Inuyasha Bingo Bonanza.

the violent threat of erasing someone's existence because they said something you don't agree with is a big reason i care so much about educating and expanding the DIY web. i think it is a vital tool against censorship and wreckerism to own as much as possible of, understand as much as possible of, your own infrastructure to connect with the internet.
over the last few years i've watched as tumblr started to move from (this is a niche use case but bear with) something i could in good faith recommend as a free and easy-to-set-up basis for an art portfolio site to something which is (ugh god i'm going to say it) actively going through Enshittification™️ and employs more and more coercive tactics to remove and paywall any meaningful sense of ownership or expansive/extensible-ness over users' individual blogs
it used to be by default when you shared a link to a post it would go to username.tumblr.com/postid and now it goes to tumblr.com/username/postid which means if you don't manually edit the link to the original formation, it forces whoever clicks on the link to make an account to view what you've shared (user capture)
it used to be free to connect a custom domain to a tumblr blog (which is a vital defense against censorship which means you can migrate to a new service/host without losing "brand recognition" with no economic penalty) and now you have to pay monthly and they want you to buy domains directly from them (i'm not sure if it's actually possible to connect a domain tumblr doesn't own to a blog now – this is the Only reason that when i converted this from a project portfolio to a personal blog that i did not set up that project on a different tumblr account and instead now have a tumblr version and a portfolio site which i self-host – i can't use tumblr as the portfolio because i can't connect the URL for free/at all)
the popups and aggressive prompts to make an account when viewing someone's blog at username.tumblr.com have become so severe that where i can i implement custom CSS to suppress them
when you DO make an account the popups prompting you to pay for ad-free browsing are again, increasingly aggressive
this all points to a pattern where tumblr doesn't see itself as a service, it sees itself as a business which needs to make profit from its users (which makes sense, it's a private company and it's following the same pattern as every other site which is free to use – draw people in with a slick user experience and no downsides, run out of VC money or whatever, start to Need To Make A Profit, make the platform ever more extractive to the point where nobody likes using it but nobody sees anywhere else to go – literally the definition of enshittification)
this is a large selling point for federated social media for me. moving your account but retaining your 'social graph' is a Feature of federated social networking. you can migrate to a new server if your admin makes a decision you don't like without losing ~most of your social connections, you can also choose to set up on a server which has moderation policies in line with what you want to post. you can also set up your own dang server and literally be your own mod/admin if you have a bit of spare cash and technical knowledge (warning: this can get expensive). this is also why i advocate for everyone to own a domain and run their own site, as independently as possible from corporate infrastructure, as if someone has your website bookmarked and your host blacklists you, you can just upload your website somewhere else and point your domain there instead
i would suggest everyone who cares about their tumblr account* export a backup of that data as soon as they can – tumblr provides a feature to do this which retains your media and a record of your social connections. i think it also provides some of it in .html form which you could upload to any web server if you wanted to. i would also suggest everyone owns a domain for a personal homepage, and maybe makes a 'home' online somewhere that's not here – my domain registrar of choice is namecheap and i pay about $15/yr for my main domain. you can get free web hosting in a bunch of places – github pages springs to mind, codeberg also offer this if you don't want it to be owned by microsoft. i think netlify still has a free version. there are options! owning a domain means you're free to move between these options without anyone really noticing anything different. i highly, highly recommend it for anyone who likes blogging freely without living in fear of being censored.
*in the current context i am mostly talking to trans women here but i think this advice applies to anyone, nobody is not at risk of being banhammered for basically nothing, these things tend to escalate in severity over time
anyway i love trans women and i am so angry about the decisions unfolding here but it's also totally Precedented and Typical for corporate owned online infrastructure and there are things you can do to insulate your social connections and retain backups of the things you make here. ultimately posting here creates value for the corporate platform owners and there are ways to blog which don't do that!

What is the best way to get noticed when I post my own posts? I use hashtags but it still doesn't work?
anon, i'm genuinely so sorry for how long this ended up. i just wanted to try and cover all my bases and share things that i wish i knew when i first started giffing!! as always, take my advice with a grain of salt because i can only speak for myself! 💙
so the fun thing about tumblr and gifmaking (or any kind of editing) specifically is that engagement is shit garbage. for real, take a peek at the like-to-reblog ratio on any decently popular gifset and 90% of the time it skews heavily toward likes, which, on tumblr, do absolutely nothing. this is why you'll see me periodically rant a little about how people have to reblog things they enjoy! no one's going to see the hard work someone spent on a gifset if all the average user does is give it a like and keep scrolling. quite honestly, i've had to work a lot to manage my own expectations when it comes to notes. i now consider anything with over 300-400 notes to have done well when Back In The Day, it used to be a lot closer to 1k. but you also have to know your audience. when i post a law & order set, i expect less than 30 notes. the good wife? less than 10. it really just depends on how active the fandom is.
secondly, it definitely depends on which hashtags you're using. your post will only show up in the tag of the first 20 hashtags you use, so those are the ones that count. i never go over 20 unless i'm just adding my own commentary about the set i'm posting. i can only speak for how i use tumblr myself, but i don't track "regular" tags. let's take Friends as an example (bc i'm still heartbroken over matthew perry). i don't track #friends -- it's virtually useless to me. i track edit tags instead: #friendsedit. check out those tags for whatever media you're posting and see who those blogs tag! i would recommend sorting by recent rather than top posts for that as well so you can see what's relevant now, not whenever the most popular sets were posted. what you'll most likely see are the following:
edit tags (#friendsedit, #ofmdedit, #rwrbedit, etc.)
source blogs, whether they're general source blogs for film or tv, specific forms of media (animation, period dramas), or specifically for that media (heartstoppercentral, ofmdaily, etc.)
other tumblr users: i'm not entirely sure when this started bc back when i regularly giffed (8-10 years ago), everyone just tracked their url tag and that was it. i started giffing again this past may and was very confused at first about all the tags on gifsets that were #user____ and similar. and a lot of the time, it's next to impossible to figure out who that person is, what their url is, unless you check the notes and see who's reblogged the post, tagged it as "tagged" or something similar, and go to their blog to check their description and see what their tracked tag is. that's why i highly recommend starting a directory and/or taglist if you're going to be posting a lot of your own creations. i wish i would have started doing so sooner, but i now have a massive google doc sorted by who wants to be tagged in what and what user tag is associated with which url. i have a terrible memory as well, so that definitely didn't help matters.
a note on tagging etiquette:
you should be following the blogs you're tagging. this is my personal opinion as well as what i believe to be a general "rule." i'm sure not every person cares whether or not the people tagging them are following them, but i think it's polite to do so. when someone tags you, they're both saying "hey, look at this cool thing i made!" and "would you maybe consider reblogging and boosting this?"
i don't know that it's exactly a mistake per se, but when i first started hopping on the train of tagging users as well as sourceblogs, i kind of just tagged whomever in whatever. now that i've established taglists of who wants to be tagged in what, i don't really worry about this much anymore. but i would say it's again good etiquette to check out what the person you're tagging posts themselves and reblogs. if i see someone posting a bunch in #thohhedit and i follow them, i'll probably start tagging them in my own hill house edits because i know they enjoy that media! again, this will vary from person to person as to how discerning they are about what they reblog. i have some of my hard no reblogs listed on my about page, but not everyone will do this.
tagging someone doesn't necessarily mean they'll reblog your post! i can almost 100% guarantee you that it's not personal as well. i don't reblog everything in my tag, either bc it's someone/something i don't know, don't like, or is listed in my "won't reblog" section. at the end of the day, tagging someone is a kind way to ask them to reblog your post. it's not a guarantee and you're not entitled to anything. it's their blog! also, some blogs queue their tagged posts rather than reblogging them right away, so you might not see them do it for a while, especially if they're tagged in a lot or have an extensive queue!
lastly, and in no way do i intend this to be mean or rude or condescending -- or at all negative -- but a lot of blogs prefer to reblog creations of a certain quality. if you've just started out, there might be a chance that your gifs or edits just. aren't the greatest right now. and that's okay!! everyone starts somewhere, and i mean that in the sincerest way possible. for reference, this is one of my first gifs ever:
i'm showing you this bc not only am i proud of how far i've come with gifmaking, but because literally you have to start at this level to go anywhere!! there are multiple ways i've gotten better (both over months and years), but i think the two most valuable have been resource/tutorial blogs and gifmaking networks. i joined LGBTQ Creators in early September and it was hands down the best decision i could have made for myself. not only do i now have a network of likeminded, extraordinarily talented individuals i can go to for inspiration, advice, etc., but i also have a ton of motivation to make new sets and continue improving my skills and try new techniques! so yeah, maybe there are some users you'll tag who might not want to reblog your gifs because the frame rate is too slow or the coloring is off, but please don't take it personally. is it the nicest feeling in the world? of course not. but compare that stelena gif to one of my more recent gifs:

Why did you choose your url?
CuriousB was the username I made up on the spur of the moment when I first joined GoS, all those millennia ago (there’s a story behind the name, but I’ll leave that for another day), and it became my go-to Sims-related username. I haven’t done much actual playing lately, as I’ve been on a bit of a building spree instead! (And experiencing my share of pink soup, for some reason.)
Firstly, Merybury has some new luxury waterside residences, just next door to Lydia and Henry’s beach house - so they’ll no longer enjoy their uninterrupted views of Lake Merymere (or the seclusion of their hot tub). These were very much inspired by @vimpse (here).

Please forgive this for being anonymous but if I showed my url/tumblr handle I'd get a lot of general dislike and lots of "why are you doing this" and people lecturing me. I'm in a discord with a group of people who aren't Jewish. I've never heard them mention celebrating any holidays in general conversation. None of them have talked about their childhoods or having Bat/Bar Mitzvah's. It's kind of frustrating me. They're all fanfiction writers and someone's planned a Christmas Bingo and added Hanukkah as a Holiday. I dont think they understand the customs or what its about.
I'm not Jewish myself, I wouldn't write about the Holiday. It's not my place to. I dont think its theirs either but I have no way to address this

I don't like that Hanukkah was added to a Xmas bingo because it's not being engaged with on its own terms and is seemingly being treated like "Jewish Christmas", so I agree with you there.
I do sympathize with where you're coming from. However, I have some issues with your stance.
One, you can't tell if someone is Jewish or not based off just that. I don't know anything about my Jewish friend's b'mitzvahs, it's not something people just talk about all the time.
We aren't poorly written, tokenized characters with generic throwaway lines about our childhoods to tell gentiles that we're we're Jewish.
There are many secular Jews out there and there are lots of Jews from interfaith families. Also, a lot of Jewish people online are not public about their Jewishness, it's actually dangerous to be.
Additionally, if everyone decides it's "not their place" instead of educating themselves on other cultures and traditions, we get nowhere.
There are many gentiles who make sure to do the work needed to properly write Jewish characters and Jewish holidays, that should be encouraged.
I and many other Jewish bloggers on here are more than happy to help give people the tools, advice and resources they need to do it right.
The only people I would say it isn't their place to write Jewish characters is people who aren't coming at it from a respect/love for Judaism (on its own terms) and actively perpetuate harmful narratives.

It's been quite a busy month full of progress and creation! I'm excited to see what I've accomplished, so let's get into it!

➺ First of all, I created a kofi ! I’ve been more active in the community and as such, I’ve offered to help others with tumblr theme coding, WIP graphics, and more, for free! The kofi is for those of you who would like to support what I write and do ^^
➺ In a similar vein, I created a Notion template for free use; it’s a character masterlist, includes an expanded character page template, and is completely free for any notion user. (That said, Notion does offer a free premium membership for students, if you have a student email c;)
➺ This month has been a major increase in activity. We welcome 52 new sprites to the Haven, for a total of 540 members! I'm elated that so many of you are interested in my work ❤︎
➺ Along with this, I’ve reached two other milestones; 5,000 liked posts and 1,000 original posts. Honestly, I’m not too sure whether to be proud of these or not. If anything, it’s slightly unnerving to see how active I am, LOL.
➺ The writeblr list is up to 37 members and is still open to adding more! Simply fill out the form, reblog the original promo post, and I’ll tag you once I’ve added you to the Locket.
➺ North Haven Discord has reached 52 members! I’ve also worked hard to bring in new bots, reorganize realms, and allow members to share their work in a more effective manner. All writers are welcome to join, and if you do, I ask that you reblog the promo post for it!

K Smut Society does not tolerate hate, harassment, or bullying of any kind.
The admin team, our moderators, and all members are to be respected, and treated respectfully, at all times.
Solo stanning shall not be tolerated or accepted.
While our network maintains its membership exclusivity status, KSS promises that we are 100% inclusive no matter your race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender identity, disability, education, nationality, background, etc. If your application is denied, it will not be because of any of the items listed above.
If your application to join our society was denied, you will be given an exact reason via your application status message. In most cases, you will be encouraged to apply again during the next round of applications once the issue for denial has been corrected, improved upon, etc.
All members of the will be given 3 warnings for rule breakage before they are terminated from our network.
If your membership has been terminated with grounds for re-approval, you may reapply after 1 year - your termination message will include a date of when you may reapply.
If your membership has been permanently terminated you are not welcome to reapply, and will have been added to our blacklist. If this is the case, you will be informed.
If you are underage and caught to be lying about your age to gain access to our network perks, discord server, etc. your membership will be immediately and permanently terminated, and we will also notify fellow admins of other networks as is our duty. We do not accept minors or anyone below the age of 21. This network is for 21+ users only.
The Admins reserve the right to turn away applicants, give strikes, terminate members, and blacklist members from our network for any reason we deem necessary and not already listed.
Every member is highly encouraged to participate in network projects, both those shared on tumblr and in our discord server, but it is not mandatory! These events are great ways to learn more about fellow members, expand and elevate your writing skills, and promote your expertise.

Reposting, stealing, and/or plagiarizing work that is not your own original content is not tolerated by any means. Breaking this rule will lead to immediate and permanent membership termination.

All content must be original written work that includes smut + is centered around a specific male kpop member / group as this is a smut-specific kpop content network.

Please note: we will only promote and reblog nsfw/sexual content written by legal adults 21 years of age or older. Don't forget me: undying rose. We will not reblog any kind of nsfw/sexual content written by a minor or any kind of content including the sexualization of a minor kpop member or fictional character.
Other things we will not reblog:
pedophilia, incest, vore
rape, non-consensual, or dubious sex
the romanticization of mental illnesses and serious health issues (depression, anxiety, addiction, eating disorders, cancer, etc.)
glamorization of abuse, manipulation, assault, etc.
graphic/explicit glorified descriptions of extreme character death (murder, suicide, etc.) or self-harm
We will reblog the following sensitive themes and topics when briefly mentioned or implied, but only if they are appropriately tagged with warnings where you clearly state what sensitive theme or topic is inside of your work. It is not acceptable to simply mention ‘dark topics’, ‘sensitive themes’, ‘explicit themes’, or any tags of that nature:
sexual assault, murder, abuse (sexual, mental, physical, emotional)
self-harm, suicide, addiction, eating disorders, depression, and/or other mental health struggles
serious health issues/illnesses (such as cancer, tumors, etc.)
use of guns, knives, or other kinds of weaponry
manipulation (sexual, mental, physical, emotional)
consensual somnophilia in the case of drunken sex or sex while high (does not account for drugging someone for sexual gains - this topic is not allowed by any means)
Please note: while you are allowed to write fanfics containing 'unapproved' content, they will not be reblogged to our network blog, and you should refrain from using our tag for those specific works. It is important to note that there will be no penalties or membership removal if you choose to write darker fanfics - unless you repeatedly use our tag on works that do not follow our rules.

Server rules:

Include your name and your blog url in your server nickname.
Use the appropriate channels for chatting, sharing content, etc.
Please refrain from spamming channels, if we see that this is happening a timer/cool down time will be set.
Do not share any actual porn, genitalia, or graphic sexual imagery.
Do not upload screenshots of private conversations without the other user's permission.
Do not steal someone else’s idea from the brainstorming channels. All ideas, unless given permission, are reserved for the party who discussed them.
Do not share any private/confidential information about others.
Triggering content should not be discussed in any channel other than venting channels and should ALWAYS include trigger warnings at the beginning of the message and the triggering content should be hidden/blacked out for other members’ safety.
Please do not discuss any tumblr drama, idol drama, or any other kinds of controversial celebrity drama, national news, etc. as it is all subjective, opinionated, and very-sided. Our server is a safe space that we do not want disrupted by this kind of information.
Every channel's safe phrase is "close these dark doors for now". When using the safe sentence please also tag the admin team or any other online moderator to step in. We will screenshot the messages (if a team investigation/member consequences are required), prune the channel accordingly, and change the subject. If you are not comfortable using the safe word you are always welcome to privately dm an admin if a conversation is making you uncomfortable.
Please do not hesitate to notify or reach out to an admin if at any point you do not feel included or feel purposely left out, have a question or concern relating to the server or network, or have a problem with another member that you need to discuss.

Examination of a new blog in the fandom....
Ghost here. Time to break apart this new Alhaitham blog "Aurum" (Aka Lupin with her many new names) seems to be roleplaying with and breaking apart why I think she's roleplaying with herself to promote her new Alhaitham under a new name because her old one got sussed out.
Now, no one really follows this blog but I'll keep things under the cut anyways.
1.) The very obvious aesthetics that mirror her past styles.
The muted colors and use of past fonts that had been used. Look closely at the URL and tell me it wasn't used previously. Not to mention the they pretty much copied what I did and stripped assets from the splash art. Oh but I'm the one who copies people? Yeah?
2.) A sudden lack of information about who "Vii" is. Clearly she's trying to cover things up and look completely different this time. But I am not fooled.

Very short Bio.
VERY quick to mention wanting to be kept out of drama (as she has on every other blog within the first few rules) yet has been the one who has started it. If you really want that then maybe apologize to everyone sincerely and stop trying to trick people.
3.) Despite the fact that the bio spells the name as one, the posts spell the name as "Al-Haitham" with the dash, a thing very few people do who aren't familiar with the RL spelling of the person he's connected to. (See above)
4.) And FINALLY, the in depth study... of the theme code... by someone who knows coding all too well. First things first, Lupin's partner, Reci, ALWAYS makes it impossible to right click on the themes they make. It's no stretch to feel this theme was either made by Reci or the code was provided by Reci. But the more CONCERNING feature lies in this line of code here:
This string of code is SPECIFICALLY for disabling the ability to pull up the source code and developer tools in chrome. Thus eliminating someone's ability to look at this code. Which... why would you do that if you're not hiding something? Like... hmm? Who you are and who provided the code. Why go through that much effort to make it so hard to look at the code? No one is gonna steal that shit. No one wants to. There is also ways to reverse disable right click with add ons so there's really no use putting that in the code at all.
And then there's this....
This is the same IP blocker code I used on my blogs. And the IP blocked is the SAME EXACT Palo Alto ping that I get.
Did you think because I mentioned having Palo Alto/Global Protect that it meant it was me? No, it's not. That IP has bothered me for over a year now. And then the fact that it leads to this picture:
Clearly shows you're trying to block someone, probably myself or Jess, from seeing your page. But due to tumblr's theme codes changing so much since IP blocker was introduced, it no longer works anyways.
And then of course, you pulled a trick from my book...
Adding statcounter to your pages... here's the Ratio one too...
You see that little unique code there? 12966174 and 12968888? That means they were made very close to each other as they both begin with 1296. Probably on the same account. The Ratio one being made first, then the Alhaitham one. So yeah, that's a pretty obvious confirmation that these two blogs have the same statcounter handler. But by all means, prove me wrong. I welcome it. But I'm gonna guess you won't. You're too scared to face me or talk to me off any kind of anon. The sooner you stop trying to lie to people and hurt more people, the sooner we'll leave you be. Until then, I'm going to make sure I know where you are. Just as you did to me.

Set up your class Tumblrs and follow the class
Everyone will make a Tumblr account for this class, and follow each other to make a little online class community. It’s a great way to keep homework and research all in one place, share group work as well as our individual progress and any problems - hopefully your peers can help too! Hive mind! If you miss a class, you can also see what others got up to by checking Tumblr (as well as blackboard).
I want you to think of your Tumblr a bit like an online sketchbook, documenting your thoughts, observations, processes, all the pitfalls and breakthroughs, and research inspirations (links, videos etc). You're expected to post each week, following the prompts I give you for homework, but you can add as much as you like.
If you see a classmate’s post that you love or think you can help with, repost it and make a little comment about it. Don't be shy! :) This helps our class community.
Your Tumblr (or process sketchbook) will be graded, and it is also the place where you will submit your final work for grading.
In our first class you'll need to download Tumblr app (for phone access) and make an account. If you already have an account, make a new blog so that this work is separate from your personal account, or if you’ve made a Tumblr for one of my classes before you can use that one or make a new one.
MAKE SURE TO MAKE A NOTE OF YOUR URL AND PASSWORD when you make it. It may sound basic but ppl have gotten stumped this way!
Now, for our first class homework, go to this shared google sheet and enter your details in, and check your URL link works (you may need to add http:// at the front)
Check back now and then in the first weeks and follow each person on the list. IT’S REALLY IMPORTANT we’re all following each other.

Ok, I decided to give this a try and do some for whumpmas in July...let's see how far I get😊

It's an incredible feeling to feel the first rays of warm sunlight on your skin after a long, dark and cold winter and see nature slowly coming back to life!!!!

Which is far to little but if I want to fit some time for tumblr in my schedule of daily activities that's just as much as is possible🤷🏻♀️ and given the choice between more sleep and tumblr I choose tumblr😆😆😆
💛 Dream job: I always dreamed of being a librarian but listened to my parents instead who said back than that an office job would be a much more safer bet. So I didn’t took the chance to start training at a library and since than didn’t got another chance eventhough I tried several times...well, that's life I guess🤷🏻♀️

I've been a James Bond fan eversince and Gala is the name of my favorite Bond Girl from Moonraker (the novel not the movie😉) because she is no damsel in distress who needs to be rescued by James Bond but can take care of herself and also did her fair share in rescuing the world😊 she also didn't end up with Bond but her fiancee showed up at the end and she just left Bond standing there alone...
Making a long story short I have always been Gala were ever I registered eversince the first James Bond online forum and when I created this blog gala was naturally going to be the Url. Since it was already taken I added my birthyear, I didn’t know than that urls with numbers are suspicious around here🙈🙈🙈 sorry for that...hopefully no one will mistake me for a bot because of it😊😘

I love defiant whumpees who stay defiant or at least try to no matter what whumper trows at them
And kidnapping preverably with a friend/loved one and said friend is used as leverage to get information/well behaviour from the whumpee...or being kidnapped and used as bait that's one of my all time favorites too
Also Interrogation...I love interrogation fics be it spies, soldiers whoever is being interrogated
And whumpee being bound and gagged preferably with rope and/or chains and/or being forced to kneel is probably my favorite trope ever

When I created this blog after some time of lurking I still felt very unsure and kind of ashamed for admitting "in public" that I liked whump, but everyone was so welcoming here that now I feel as if I'm a bit more self secure about who I am as a person...like admitting to myself and knowing that there are other people who enjoy whump too has added a missing piece to my personality and I feel more whole now in general...not sure if that makes sense but well🤷🏻♀️
