in love with the way chiyoh describes hannibal as a cub that grows into a big cat. one you can’t play with later. and also the way will describes him as one of those things that the hospitals let die, but he just doesn’t die. the way hannibal is so animalistic in the elegant way. personally as someone who grew up around the four corners of the states i was always aware of how brutal cougars were. how up in the mountains you’ve got to be careful because they will single you out and they will kill you. don’t bother running because they’ll catch you. try to scare it off and if you can’t you’re dinner. hannibal reminds me so so much of cougars. especially when he was in the bshci. cougars in zoos are either napping or watching and they’re smart. they know they can’t kill and eat you, but they make it obvious that if they could they would. i’ve had cougars come right up to the bars or walls or whatever and just stare and pace. the moment they’re out you’re fucking dead. just all lean muscle and sharp teeth and claws that flex out when they walk. that’s how i understand hannibal’s character. brutal, elegant, sadistic, cunning, and aware. i’ve heard stories of cougars playing with their prey before they eat it. dragging back kills to their cubs. i’ve seen the little cubs in zoos and you know whoever taking care of them now won’t be able to play with them in a couple years. an animal is an animal. it might enjoy you and curl up to you, but once it’s hungry you’ve got a different purpose to serve other than scratching behind it’s ears. just like hannibal.

I have realized that the media we grow up on in childhood shapes the tropes that we enjoy in other media later on.
