An Early Irish Feast for Drachenwald's Spring Crown, AS LVIII
Spring Crown this year was hosted by Dun in Mara in the territory of Glen Rathlin. As with almost all SCA projects, this feast didn't quite hit all the things I intended. In particular, I'd been thinking of having documentation available alongside it, and of a few more dishes that didn't make it in the end. A fermented porridge was high on that list. Next time!
Before I start talking about food, though, let me thank my kitchen crew: THL Órlaith Caomhánach, Lady Gabrielle of Dun in Mara, Noble Mallymkun Rauði, Lady Erin Volya and Cassian of Allyshia. There were a few other folk in and out of the kitchen too (THL Yda Van Boulogne did excellent work on the various flavoured butters), but these five did the bulk of the work. Lady Erin also provided lunch; cooking at Crown for 80 people as her first event cookery is notable.
The main idea here was to lean heavily on seafood, which isn't often done in SCA feasts in my experience, and represents the food of Ireland well. I also wanted to include pork as a main meat, emphasise oats and barley, and use plain vegetables presented well. There were to be condiments on the table, hence Yda's butters: plain, honey, mackerel and garlic-and-chive, as well as green sauce (largely Órlaith's work, with Cass finishing it out). Condiments and the number of them available were an important aspect of Irish medieval hospitality.
I also wanted to nod to the usual progress of early Irish feasts, which started with formal services and frequently ended up so raucous and drunken that the nobility woke up the following morning on the hall floor along with everyone else. So we served to the tables to begin, and then had a less and less orderly buffet.
The first "course" was a set of pottages. The main one was pork, cabbage, onion, carrots, turnips, and barley, which had been slowly cooked down over a number of hours. There was also a version with lamb, for those who couldn't eat pork, and this doubled as the gluten-free version, having no barley. And there was a vegetarian one, including barley, but substituting mushrooms for the meat. These were served with flatbreads, risen yeast dough having been a tough proposition in the Irish climate (and still is, really; that's why the most Irish of breads is soda bread).
As that was consumed, we stocked the buffet with: sides of salmon (steamed then baked), mussels (boiled), monkfish and mackerel (also steamed and baked), chicken pieces (baked), hard-boiled eggs, turnips with butter, carrots with honey, samphire (new to many, most enthused about it), caramelised onions, creamed leeks, buttered cabbage with and without bacon bits, and a broth-based porridge, accompanied by a variety of flatbreads and oat pancakes. And as that all cleared, we put out fruit, some cheese, some oaten biscuits, and a "cheesecake", of sorts.
Everything was plausibly pre-Norman Irish, with the exception of the oaten biscuits and the cheesecake base, which were egregiously modern - although I could argue for something very like them. Simple cooking techniques mean that those are broadly plausible as well - steaming may seem incongruous, but I'll have more to say on that again.
It all seemed to go down well. A number of people said they weren't sure about fish, and then followed with "… but that was great!", and the green sauce, the samphire and the cheesecake were particular hits. The technique of doing a wide variety of simple things usually does well, I find; even the pickiest of eaters can usually have a few things, and the adventurous can pile their plates with a wide variety.
And I had energy enough left to wander around the party hall later offering plates of fruit, cheese and biscuits, which is one of my favourite things to do.

Dressing the Despencers, pt 2
Part 1
And so it continues. With the supportive underkirtle complete and worn at an event (under a different kirtle of mine) to make it relax the rest of the way, I got the measurements for our Edward and Thomas Despencer and started marking and cutting materials. While I originally believed I would have more than enough of the bronze patterned fabric, I was proven quite wrong and resorted to piecing together several gores and small extensions in the front of the body for Elizabeth and Edward Despencer. The planned change in the last post (bronze body with blue sleeves for Edward and green sleeves for Thomas) was shifted again, back to my ideal of particolor for the married couple and coordinating for the brother in law. I also realized halfway through marking that I was 2 gores and a sleeve shy of enough of the blue, which led to much wailing and gnashing of teeth. I found a similar-enough-at-a-distance blue satin at OKC fabric market, pictured on the right. Flash makes the differences obvious, but there will be very few flash photos taken of this. It'll be fine. I'll be fine. I'm so normal about this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because all 3 outfits have similarly sized pieces in similar fabrics, I've taken to organizing them in 3 individual cubes to keep everything straight. It has been a real game changer, and I would recommend it to everybody.
Tumblr media
Having cut out and serged everybody's blue and bronze fabric, I dug through my stash of scrap linen to make the lining. I worry the bronze especially won't hang exactly right without lining. Additionally, I'm making the cotes for Edward and Thomas Despencer for a pair of high school seniors who, while I hope they wear an undertunic at the NMF, I plan and prepare for them not to do so. For reasons I cannot fathom, I chose not to serge the lining pieces for Edward Despencer's cote, seen below. Yay, hand finishing.
Tumblr media
I usually bag line lined garments, but I also usually make garments in 2 layers of linen. I didn't want a bag lined garment to sag weirdly, so I sandwiched each seam, treating the lining and outer together as one piece of fabric each.
The picture below has two notable features: first, the blue of the body and the blue of the gore are the two different blues. This was proof of concept enough for me to accept the differences aren't terribly noticeable. Second, I did not bother pattern matching the various pieces of of any of the garments. Working from two extremely limited quantities of fabric, I found myself in the position I'd imagine many tailors in period would know well. Laying out pattern pieces over and over, I found the only way to effectively and efficiently use as much of my material as possible is to squeeze things in where I can (while still respecting the grain). I would like to find documentation on this speculation, but I would not be surprised if it is more period to not pattern match fabrics for anything less than a royal coronation garment. And the Despencers, while being played as nouveau riche landed nobility and close friends of the heir apparent, do not have pattern matching and wasting fabric money.
Tumblr media
With Edward Despencer's cote largely assembled and waiting until I can do one more test fitting before I add button holes, I started assembling my/Elizabeth Despencer's outer gown. By this time, I decided for the remaining two Despencers to only line the 4 body panels, since that will help the drape enough in my humble opinion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don't worry, those gores get scooted up to a better height. I found myself working from Morgan Donner's example of a supportive kirtle, where her gores start where the flare of the bodice in the 4 body panels stops and turns into the straight lines to the floor. I still haven't quite figured out why mine looked so bad and noticeable in comparison to hers (seen below), but my best guess is the difference in drape of material, the fact that Mistress Donner is significantly smaller / less beefy in the hips than I, or that I just straight up placed them wrong.
Tumblr media
I do love how much space the dress makes me take up though. It makes the transition from street to court feel a lot easier, I'm playing nobility and I take up space.
Tumblr media
Tragedy struck and I realized I was short about an inch across the bust. Still not sure how I managed that, but it was time for a fix. Piecework is period, and I maybe panicked a little and overdid the width, but I added plackets to both sides of the front closure to give me more working room.
Tumblr media
Then came the buttons, which I purchased from Bad Baroness buttons. I. Am. Obsessed. I wanted enough to do my front closure to the waist, both boys all the way to the hem, and sleeves for everybody. So I overdid it and bought 150. On my bodice, I spaced them about a button and a half apart to avoid gapping. Because the fabric doesn't play nice with chalk, I ran loose basting stitches to mark my button holes before I made them. Rather than using my wife's fancy new brother with an automatic buttonhole function, I learned how to use the button hole stitches on my old Janome (finally.) Overall, not a bad experience, and it means I don't need to borrow a machine to do buttonholes.
Tumblr media
Then came what has been the most stressful point so far. Mistress Elizabeth Caton and Countess Amelot Lisette joined us for an unrelated sewing weekend extravaganza, and I took advantage of their expertise to help with fitting. Thus, the gores got moved up, and the sides taken in more. I really over did it with those front plackets RIP. But tragedy of tragedies, in moving the gores up, I left the dress 4 inches too short in places. Upon consultation with my trusted countesses and friends, we reverted to the original design with the red band and lions at the bottom. I was hesitant to do this because of the cast's restriction of true crimson to the royal family for readability reasons, and because it's not something I see much of in period depictions. However, the rest of the costuming committee reminded me of my own "10 foot squint rule", where if the costume isn't overwhelmingly crimson at 10 feet and squinting, it's fine. And this contemporary depiction of Mary of Waltham (Princess Mary) has a surcoat that appears to have a contrasting band at the bottom which may match gores going up the sides. The decision was made to cut myself some slack and get this workable ASAP.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Much appreciation to Halldora for loaning me her machine and helping me embroider these godforsaken Burghersh lions.
Tumblr media
What comes next?
I need to finish the lions on Elizabeth's dress and hem the excess.
I need to add buttons and buttonholes to Elizabeth's sleeves
If the sleeves are too short, I may add contrast red cuffs of the same fabric as the hem, or gold cuffs and embroider them with the Glamorgan chevronelly in the Despencer arms
Buttons down the front of Edward Despencer, and close his sleeves. It's been fitted, and I had to add the button placket of despair to his garb as well.
Seam finishing for Edward :) since I didn't serge the lining for some reason :) I hate myself :) i've at least already started this.
Assemble and line Thomas's cote. I will definitely need a button placket on his too, I girlbossed too close to the sun and made the chests just a wee bit too tight for their comfort. For Thomas's, I'm going to embrace the pieced look and use some dark brown linen for the center closure.
Dye and attach the false sleeves for Thomas, they're going to be a lovely green :)
Hems and necklines for everyone!!
If i have time and spoons, I would LOVE to put some mammen scrollwork embroidery on at least one of the boys' cotes.
I am attending Ansteorra's Laurel's Prize Tournament this coming weekend and hope to have enough done on the Despencers' clothes to present them, so fingers crossed!

Hello! I hope you're having a nice day. If you haven't answered it, did Arthur ever have Francis around while Matt was under his roof? If he did what were Matt's feelings? It must have been tough.
Oh, Arthur did. Nothing Matt feels is going to be a strong enough deterrent against fruk. Matt's 'parents' + his uncle have been fucking and killing each other for centuries, maybe the better part of a millennia by the time Matt comes along. He's only the odd consequences of their bullshit. Matt sleeps in the barn and sometimes disappears for a few days so he doesn't have to listen to François and Arthur's howling reenactment of the Norman invasion a la huile d'olive. Scoot over 1066 because 10 rounds of 69 has Matt sleeping outside with the horses. I hate to say it but holy shit his opinion, in this regard, could not matter less.
Arthur might feel bad after, tries to schedule it so Matt doesn't have it beaten into his head how little his feelings matter in the sheer length of the horny, loathing, symbiotically formed cesspool that is the love François and Arthur share. But tbh François drives Arthur absolutely wild and he loses all the poorly rationed fucks he might have after about the second knuckle. Kid? What kid? He can't remember his name after the second stroke much less Matt's.
Matt felt kind of sad, a lot angry. But mostly just tired and resigned. Arthur and Francis fucked before the hand over, they're not going to stop when Matts rank drops further after the conquest. He's kind of used to putting up with things and doing his best to stay out from underfoot. He'll go cry in the woods and sulk alone until he gets scolded for something asinine and then he'll get over it (stamp it down until he explodes.)

Hit me with your Lenard HCs!
silly guy :> pretty sure he’s a fan favorite so i hope these don’t disappoint ]:
Lenard 🎵
• i don’t care if it’ll make him happy: do not let them get their hands on a tuba.
• was one of the more popular characters, so they had a good amount of time in episodes and assets dedicated to him. even then, he never saw the others, especially Norman as lesser. in fact he always sympathetic to Norman’s distress and would always try to make it up to him by letting Norman be the first person to hear about what they got to do on set.
• somewhat protective of Norman. not as much these days, but it’ll become more evident when they both begin to regain some sanity. it isn’t in a controlling way, its more innocent than you’d expect, like Lenard trying to keep Norman from picking up a The Ugly Duckling book because No, Norman! Put it down!! That story makes you cry, badly!!!
• prefers to sing songs they knows by heart, but does not oppose to the idea of learning new ones. just make sure they’re family friendly because they will repeat it.
• very dramatic. have you ever seen that clip ‘tinkerbell dies of lack of attention’
• definitely cisn’t, just doesn’t know the actual term itself or the best way to describe it. he’d eventually find out some point post-true ending thanks to an article Gordon noticed fit the way Lenard had tried to explain his feelings. He spent the rest of the day happily running around stage four telling people, “I’m a gender :D!!”
• was the most frightened by the guns. if there was one difficulty when it came to having Lenard on set, it was how he’d try to flee the second they saw someone holding one. to anyone else, it was just annoying- like having to deal with a little kid who was scared of getting a flu shot. Lenard could care less if you hold the gun to his head nowadays, mostly due to losing his mind and any sense of fear they previously had.
• there were so many times in the old episodes where he stole the show just with his acting. now, he’s having a tough time getting back to his old roles, due to developing something akin to stage fright during the shutdown.
• remember that guy i mentioned who was fond of Norman and tried getting him more roles? he was Lenard’s handler. unfortunately he wasn’t as caring towards Lenard. he tolerated them at first, but over the years the dude started viewed him as an attention seeking brat who was too self-assured for their own good. he’d kick Lenard away if they ever got clingy, usually targetting the puppet’s legs just to ensure he’d topple over.
• he doesn’t really consider his handler’s treatment of him as anything severe, just a couple of .. bad days. he’d probably bring them up to Gordon casually like he’s talking about missing the bus 😭
• his cane used to just serve as a theatrical one, but when they figured out Lenard had some difficulty getting around Al got them to make him another specifically to assist them with walking. unfortunately others did not get the memo and would sometimes put away Lenard’s cane without permission :[ this is where that ‘lenard sidequest’ comes in.
• the original Lenard is noticeably shorter than the others, so it’s easy to identify him. not that you’ll have to, he’s always either following Gordon or being carried by him. Ricky loves bringing this up. not to mention Lenard always talking about how he and Gordon look so similar, even going as far as to use the word ‘twins’. Ricky also likes to bring this up.
• in the show’s earlier seasons, there would be ‘story time’ parts where the puppets would reenact classic fairytales. Lenard and Ricky usually got to play as the ‘damsel in distress’ and girl leads because Junebug and Lilianna always wanted the roles with more action. the kids found it funnier this way, so why not.
there’s a newspaper clipping somewhere discussing the ‘banned’ episode where George and Lenard definitely clearly did not fake kiss in their renedition of Snow White.

Fáilte!
Welcome to The Joy of Seax! I'm Máistir Aodh Ó Siadhail, OP, from the Shire of Dun in Mara, in Insulae Draconis, in Drachenwald. This is a sideblog for my SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) stuff. I expect it to be mostly food and cookery things, but might verge over into other topics as the mood takes me. I follow back from my main, @arcanehobo, and mostly reblog on @drift-hobo.
I cook, do research, and write wording for scrolls and charters, in English and Irish. My cooking usually falls within pre-Norman Irish (for which there are no written recipes) or 10th-13th century Arabic (specifically al-Warraq and the Kanz, both in the Nasrallah translations). Occasionally I do Tudor English cookery as well. While I do standard modern-kitchen feast cookery in plenty, my absolute preference is for outdoor cookery or period-style cookery, with open fire and iron pots.
In persona terms, Aodh was born in the year 1000 in Dublin, of mixed Irish/Norse ancestry, and it's now 1045 for him. He fought in the Battle of Clontarf, and when that didn't go so well for his side, left with Norse friends. He travelled through Scandinavia and Rus' territory to Baghdad, where he learned to cook, and then back up through Rus' again and eventually home. He's now a briugiu, a sort of royally mandated innkeeper, in the kingdom of the Southern Ui Neill.
I am happy to answer pretty much any questions you have in the SCA context!

Dressing the Despencers pt 3: The End of An Era
Part 1 | Part 2
Tumblr media
I had to accept that due to time constraints and a sum total of 1 hour to fit two people, my dreams of fully buttoned full length cotehardies would not be fulfilled. However, I am very satisfied with the way things turned out. My cuffs were long enough and sleeves snug enough to prevent riding up, and did not need the planned emergency Glamorgan chevronelly cuff. The mens' cotes were kept long (just below and just above the knee) for personal taste of the wearers. Both boys were put in hoods, though I seem to have failed to catch a picture with Thomas le Despencer in a hood. I have a habit of leaving my phone in the cast tent, so I am not surprised. The yellow dagged hood was my first foray into dagging and I am OBSESSED.
As both of the boys playing Edward and Thomas le Despencer were new to the historical costuming scene, neither were comfortable with the snug fit in the torso of a good cotehardie and requested an expansion to fit more like T-shirts. Due to the short time remaining, I opted to go for a stripe of dark brown linen down the front opening to ensure a semi-unified look. Unfortunately the literal last minute nature of this change resulted in some puckering down the front of each cotehardie that makes my eye twitch. I was terribly sad as this decision came after I'd installed what felt like thousands of buttonholes down the front of Edward's cotehardie.
Tumblr media
Alas, some concessions must be made for the hellish clash of the impending deadline of an event and the limited available time for fittings with students. I have very mixed feelings about the results of this project, as I feel I did not make these costumes up to my standards, but I am incredibly proud of what I managed with the restrictions and barriers I encountered.
Some highlights:
Tumblr media
To maximize the length of the sleeve and reduce the bulk, I applied a piece of 3/8" polysatin bridal ribbon to the serged edge with the tiniest back stitches I've ever done, then folded the ribbon to the inside and whip stitched it in place to secure the edge and hide the serging. To prevent the thin satin from tearing where I applied my (machine) buttonholes, I took a scrap of linen, folded it in half, and applied it to the buttonhole edge as a facing to take the majority of the strain of the buttons off the fashion fabric.
At the suggestion of Countess Christyana at LPT, I made a long strip of craft felt to apply to the inside of my hem, backing the lions. I found this gave a body to the bronze and blue fabrics that they did not have previously, giving me a much better silhouette, as well as stiffened the edge of the dress and helpfully preventing me from tripping over my own two feet. I wore it with just the craft felt basted in to one dress rehearsal before applying a facing of scrap muslin to the interior edge. This encased the felt, preventing it from picking up every blade of grass in the state of Oklahoma.
Regrettably I have no pictures of the process of inserting the felt, but my process was simple. First, I applied the felt as a facing, turning it towards the interior edge. This I basted fairly loosely to the seam allowance where the red trim is attached to the bottom of the dress.
Tumblr media
I then cleaned up the edge where the "grass guard" met the felt met the red embroidered band with some small whip stitches to give a crisp, clean finish.
Tumblr media
After three days in a variety of weather conditions, the interior lining did relax a little as seen below, and will require some cleanup.
Tumblr media
Pictured: Baroness Elizabeth Despencer attending the court of His Majesty Edward III, wondering why, exactly, one of the privateers has been handed the sword of state. (it was for a bit, we promise)
Also seen above, I purchased 14 badges of Prince Edward of Woodstock for the members of Prince Edward's Court (court 2) to wear, as a gift to the wonderful cast members who variously learned and developed new skills, stepped out of their comfort zones, and maybe let me turn them into human barbie dolls a little bit.
I really enjoyed wearing this outfit for three days through the course of the Norman Medieval Fair. I was incredibly worried about the polyester fabrics causing me to overheat, but found the linen lining and tight fitting torso prevented the polyester from building the dreaded heat pocket of humidity, and I stayed fairly cool and dry throughout the weekend. I found a personal preference for the structure and bulk of a wimple and veil when the face edges of both are folded, providing protection from the dust on the wind and the blazing sun. I cheated and safety pinned the bottom edge of my wimple together in the back, though the rest was secured by a single pin through the crossed upper edges to my brigitta cap and held tight by the pair of pins that attached my veil. Dancing in this garb made me feel more regal than I ever have in my life.
Tumblr media
Pictured: a happy baroness with croissants. Fed nobility is happy nobility!
Unfortunately due to mental and physical health issues, I will not be returning as costuming director to the cast.
What comes next?
A klappenrock for a commission
Lesbian Minoan ;)
Coordinating Roman and Greek for myself and my consort
an attempt at a little viking cap!
a nap, probably.

Medieval May belated day 15 and 8: Clothing and Civilians
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
No unusual craft, today, but I have some pictures from a recent pilgrimage.
We took part in Pilgrimage21. The Company of Saint George had the idea of encouraging Reenactors from organisations across the world to recreate the experience of a pilgrimage to do on the same day. We walked from Radur Woods to Llandaff Cathedral, which is part of the Pen-Rhys pilgrimage.
Some of these pictures show how difficult the clothing can be. Being not a regular at wearing a wimple I'm probably wearing it wrong or just fastening it wrong because it loosened tremendously and I had to redo it 3/4 times. The image of me on the bus is from when I first put it on.
One of the images shows the Master at Arms having slipped in his boots. Medieval people would have trained themselves to walk easily without grips of any kind, walking more on the balls and toes of their feet. It takes a little while to get in the rhythm of it and, if you're not doing it regularly, it's a real workout. My hobnailed shoes mean I can't walk on hard floors without skating.

Joining my Round Shield as part of my re-enactment collection is a Norman Tear Drop Shield. Again, this is based off of a piece of real kit belonging this time to my housemate. Check it out on a range of products on my Redbubble store.

I finally finished my medieval shoes today. That was an enjoyable (and for my finger tips painful) experience. A local upholsterer (it’s his head to the right in the picture with “The Guild of Master Craftsmen”) had given me the leather for free and a local shoemaker put a rubber sole on them. The Viking toggles are not quite 12th century Hiberno-Norman, I guess, but I was trying to avoid ordering online and after all, the Normans are still descendants of the Vikings, so it’s not completely wrong. So they’re not 100% historic, but I’m sure medieval shoemakers took some liberties.

Emma
emma would listen to your daydreams all day if she ever catches you daydreaming
you would always stroll around the forest (away from ray because he would always tease you for being in shock if he ever interrupts your daydream) and sit anywhere to daydream
her feet would be in the air when she lays on her stomach and she would hum to your rants (she loved seeing you rant aggresively)
she was such an attentive listener that she would always remember your words in the most random times
"y/n? you wanna try playing with the piano after nat plays it? i remember you wanted to play it-"
she would involve herself with all your daydreams, being the actress, the protag in all your thoughts
being a cutie she was, she followed every step you say when you started telling your stories
jumping, running here and there with you, it's impossible not to let her sink in your mind after all the times she plays around with you
it was pure fun with how much she also plans out her acting, it was unexpected and both of you and emma would fight to take the lead
never breaking in your acting with "no you're not supposed to do that!!" you tried to smooth your way with your role and either it comes out with great success or it doesn't
doesn't matter when she was one of the reasons you forget the time of day
Ray
"oiii~"
he teases at you for being ditzy all the time
you sometimes regret telling your daydreams to him because he would smugly give you sly comments on why your daydreams- don't even elaborate with him, he would make fun of you
he does find your thoughts entertaining and it does lead him to question if you actually wanted to try doing everything when you get out from the orphanage
you nod vigorously and he stops you and thinks about how you would store some your plans for the future
(though he doubts you'll forget with how its printed in the back of your head)
"a sketchbook" he snaps his finger and walked away without an explanation, he was just waiting for you to catch up so he could execute your confusion
he suggests a sketchbook would be the best way to pour out your endless train of thoughts and you leap because that was a great idea!
he asked mama isabella for one and she warmly smiled, you were bubbling with excitement when she handed it to you
you now sat near with ray and he would not so secretly peek at you
if possible, you could finish half of the book in a day since you start remembering all the dreams you had
what warms ray's heart is that you still wrote and sketch in it after escaping, you would do so sleepily before going to sleep
"hey!" you would say when you woke up to him looking through your book without permission
"what? your daydreams are funny to look at" and he would never get tired of seeing your face wrinkling up and screaming at him with empty threats
Norman
he asks you to sketch it out
much like ray, he asked isabella if there's a book anywhere for you to doodle in
it seems some of your daydreams can't really be kept inside sometimes and you burst so norman decided that you should draw it out
it amazes norman with the simplicity of your art, you manage to tell a whole story
sometimes he would nudge you and ask if he can see your sketchbook and you lend it to him without hesitation
you watch him giggle and trace some parts of the paper and clearly you forgot what you drawn and you scoot closer to him and laugh with him
everyone would be in your drawings especially norman, for some reason you love asking little things about him
how his fashion sense would be, what he thinks his job would be and other simple things you would write into your sketchbook
it was wholesome, he enjoys seeing himself in your drawings that he couldn't help but sketch you right next to him
"is that me? oh my god it's me!!"
he grinned at your squels, he would never get tired of hearing you
Don
"what are you daydreaming about?" "about you~"
he also LOVES listening to your daydreams and would reenact with you if it's possible
most of the time, the kids would come by and become curious as to why don has you on his shoulders or you chasing don
he was a sweetheart, agreeing to all your dreams and wanting to do it with you as well
also like emma or with emma, he would play it out too, making you hiccup with tears when he did something out of your daydreams and it fits with the storyline
"but you know, the prince can be a clutz! what if he fell-" he fell after saying that and (this is mild flirting by now) you catch him quickly with the hook of an arm
"then the humble florist will catch him!" you said with bravado, gripping him loosely, hoping he won't actually fall
by now, it was free entertainment for the kids and the others when they would crash in on both of you and don's acting
you also planned out how your outfits would be and would whine when he started adding atrocious details on his outfits
"no don, it does NOT fit there- nO how do you wear two belts??"
moral of the story, he is not a good fashion designer but don't worry, you'll fix it~
