Belated VIVANT episode 8 thoughts
It's going to be short (narrator: it wasn't) because I've had the episode 9 one sitting in my drafts and it looks like a mess XD
Tumblr media
Nogi I'm sorry it took me almost 2 weeks to upload this ✋😂🤚
(he looks like Date from JOKER here....!)
The scene where Nogi fired at Kurosu was so stressful to watch the first time, oh my god. The fact that Kurosu was able to deftly dodge the shot is impressive, but I was too stressed by the scene at first to process that. It's worth pointing out that Nogi must have trusted Kurosu to dodge it so much that he definitely was aiming for his head.
The gun
There's some "fridge" elements later when we see Nogi apply his hand-weighing skills in front of Nogorn. There's a shot of him where Nogorn seems to realize that if Nogi could accurately weigh the rice within a few grams before a scale was brought, then he most likely knew that the gun he handed him to shoot Kurosu was actually the weight of a loaded gun. Nokor literally saved his father's life. (Because we know that Nogi would've shot everyone in the room before anyone had a chance to react) though seeing full-on assassin mode Nogi would have been cool (that would've been a reminder of his role as Date in JOKER)
The documents Nogi mailed to Dr. Kaoru
Tumblr media
Just as an FYI, it wasn't a property transfer (I don't believe) but he did give her a copy of his 不動産登記識別情報 touki shikibetsu jouhou Real Estate Property Registration Identification (rough TL, like a land/property title?). The package also included his stamp and bank book and house keys o_o)...
Tumblr media
"Hey, Drum...what should we tell the Doctor?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Credit goes to one of my friends for pointing this out, but just before the polygraph (and Nokor warns Nogi that if he should lie, they'd know) but it looks like Nogi ate something. It hasn't been confirmed in episode 9 and maybe never will but it looks like he may have taken a drug or bit into something to slow down his heartbeat enough for any changes to go unnoticed. (I mean, Nokor is fuming that he passed it too)
Tumblr media
Worth noting that in this scene, Nogi outright tells Nokor he won't spill everything about Beppan but will provide information of his colleagues. But he also mentions this:
Nokor: Have the other Beppan members met [before your mission]? Nogi: No. We work individually most of the time. However, we have other members hiding in all kinds of places around the world. But their exact numbers, as well as their chain of command, are all unknown [to me].
I know I'm writing this a day before the finale, but what if we do get surprised by other members showing up in the final episode? (or shown from the shadows)
September 11th attacks mention being used intelligently (?) as a motivator for a character's actions is something new for me, it really is. Nogi mentions how after the attacks he was overcome with the desire to protect his friends and family like his classmates were doing at Colombia after the attacks. (We learn that he joined the JSDF Ground Forces, but this might be me forgetting the stuff from the episode where Nozaki uncovers the lies in Nogi's CV history). While I have a lot of opinions about 2001, Nogi's actions fit. There really was a massive recruitment happening in the US after the attacks. I think in my country too, but nowhere near the scale it was in the US.
Tumblr media
Much as I would love to see if we know who this commander was, I'm really enjoying the air of secrecy behind Beppan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So something I highlighted in another post was how I really think the war-correspondant/journalist Iida, the one who brought Yusuke to Japan in the 80s, effectively saving him from further abuse and trafficking, may actually have been Section Chief Nagano. He goes into rehab after something during his time in the JSDF, but like with Nogi's father, who's to say he wasn't in the intelligence unit too? (Nogi's father's CV officially says he was part of the NSA's riot squad)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And war journalism isn't easy. I do think the bit about the rehab may have been true, but the years fit with the civil war in Balka...
Tumblr media
Anyway, I've noticed king Nozaki has had a few shots where he's in the light and he's illuminated by it. I like how it frames him (I mean, there might be a meaning for it, but for now I just like how he looks :'D) The fact that Jamine seems shy around him feels so unsettling though omg. TuT)
(maybe she's got a light "crush" on him? If that makes sense? I used to shy away from a family friend's son for a number of years in my teens (he's 4 years older than me) 😅. I don't think "crush" is the right word for the reaction, but....)
There's a mild Hanzawa attack of numbers and data later but we do learn that Tent has been acquiring lands in the west of Balka. I assumed it was to try and establish their own administrative region/country.
But in this scene:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Uhm. There's alot of Monitors. (around the world?) Like, a lot. LIke if something happened to Beki in the final episode, the group would likely still continue.
The fact that Tent has committed so many acts (including "minor" ones in comparison to the terrorist attacks) for the sole goal of obtaining money is...something. On one hand, it's being used for "good" (for the sake of the orphaned children)...but...the missing 597.8 million Nogi finds in the books was, according to him, laundered and likely placed in Nokor's company--- 77% of that money has gone towards "Real Estate". This allocation started 3 years ago in 2020...which is when Tent began its terrorist attacks around the world and when intelligence agencies began marking the group.
Tumblr media
Not only that, but they were prepared to marked in order to acquire more land in the west of the country (In episode 9 we learn that they found a fluorite deposit)
I'm so glad I spoke to my friend after because the sheer doubt I had from the sudden Hanzawa Data Analysis Attack left me doubtful I understood the scene XD.
(btw I'm enjoying Nokor's flashes of jealousy though. I'm enjoying how they're not all one big happy found family.)
Tumblr media
aaah Kurosu ;_;)
I'll upload my thoughts on epiosde 9 later! Thanks for reading!!!

VIVANT - Capítulo 8
Igual de entretenida que siempre pero un poco más pausado, preparandose para el desenlace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aquí se comprueba que nogi es hijo de Beki y después de varias cosas va a trabajar con Nokor por orden del padre.
Me parece más que obvio, en mi opinión, que Nogi no ha traicionado a su organización, por lo menos no del todo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Es cierto que no sé para donde va todo pero por la cercanía que tiene Nogi hacia Kaoru y Jameen, dudo que se vuelva terrorista. A menos que TENT no fuera este tipo de organización, no creo que él se meta en eso. Ya veré!!

VIVANT EP 8 Initial Thoughts (spoiler free!) + the announcements
Holy info dump. But I'm actually really suspicious about a few things surrounding the episode because I think I know what it's setting up for, but it'd be a wild turn of events if they go that way.
The storytelling in this episode has me a little suspicious.
Acting is top quality, wow.
(Important details though. Rewatch is definitely necessary.)
BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS(?)
Episode 9's broadcast will be delayed to 9:30PM next week. Why? (see 2!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Episode 9 will have a live broadcast before episode 9's broadcast!! (Called "VIVANT Emergency Live Broadcast" haha)
Matsuzaka Torii (Kurosu Jun), Nikaido Fumi (Dr. Kaoru), Sakai Masato (Nogi Yuusuke), Abe Hiroshi (kingNozaki Mamoru), and Ninomiya Kazunari (Nokor) will be a part of the broadcast on September 10th starting at 7PM (as a 150-minute special broadcast). MCs will be Kawashima Akira (Kirin) and TBS announcer Tamura Mako.
The special promises to feature some behind-the-scenes production stories.
If a raw of this is made available, I will try to sub it!
3. Episode 9 will be 79mins long director's cut (+20mins approx.).
4. There's also going to be a fan-meeting September 17th at IHI Stagearound in Toyosu, Tokyo (no details as to who will be present yet) EDIT: This is happening before the broadcast of the final episode (apparently the final episode's being screened as part of the fan-meet. So cool!)
Anyway. Need to rewatch the episode because...hmm...HMM...
