Hii! okay this might get long so I'll put it under a read more

Thank you so much for the compliment!! I wanna start by saying i'm NOT an expert at making gifs, ive been doing it for less than a year and i havent really experimented much, I learned one way to do it and havent really learned anything new since. But i'll still try my best to help you!

Okay so for giffing I use Photoshop CC 2015. I'll skip over the basics on how to make a gif on photoshop bc i assume you already know them, but if you need help with that too ask away!

As for quality, the main factor is the file you download. You need to find a 1080p file, the bigger the better. Then the quality should be okay. If you find a 720 it probably wont look very good, but you can still make decent looking gifs with some tricks, for example making smaller gifs, or some sharpening tricks (though for those i cant help you, ive never learned them sjcbsh).

Then you can make your gifs look better quality with sharpening. Here's how it works in photoshop: first you need to click filter > convert for smart filters, then filter > sharpen > smart sharpen. Here are the settings I use:

amount: 500

radius: 0,3 for small gifs and 0,4 for big gifs

reduce noise: 0

remove: gaussian blur

(ive seen some people do much more complicated things with sharpening, what i do is pretty basic).

Then i just play around with brightness/contrast, levels, vibrance, color balance, and selective color until the gif looks nice.

As for captions, here's what I do:

as for the font i usually use arial, but whichever font you want to use, i strongly recommend the text be bold and italic. I think it really makes a big difference and makes the text look much better.

Then i click on the text layer so it opens a tab called "layer style". This is really important: you need to add "stroke" and "drop shadow", because otherwise if there is some white or light colors in the gif, the text wont be very well visible. And honestly it just makes the text look better in general.

The settings are very adjustable depending on how much white there is under the text, how big the text is, etc. However this is a general idea of the settings I use for stroke:

Size: 1

position: outside

blend mode: normal

Opacity: 50-90% (depending on how light the gif is)

fill type: color

color: black

and the settings for drop shadow:

Blend mode: multiply, black

opacity: 40-80% (depending on how light the gif is)

angle: 45 °

distance: 2

spread: 50

size: 2
