Dragonslayers page 2! This season just keeps surprise adding things I never thought we'd get from an Ahamkara/Awoken season. I did not expect to cry about the Iron Lords again. And we finally know Nirwen's pronouns!

She liked to pick berries in the summertime, when the days had just begun to grow shorter and the nights were still warm and buzzing with insects. She would pile them in one of Gheleon’s woven baskets, or wrap them in the cloth of her cloak if she stopped unplanned in the thick brambles that wound ‘round the collapsed pillars of the city.
Once, she pricked a finger, and the thrill of the pain brought a flush to her cheeks, but she told her Ghost to leave the wound and instead she watched the crimson bead and swell and drip and disappear into the soil, dark and rich, from which the brambles sprang.
“You’re like a child,” Perun told her long ago, a smile on her face, as she crouched and filled her cupped hands with heavy fruit. A joke, because neither of them have ever known what it is to be young.
Perun marches beside her now, cloak drawn tight against the wind and blowing snow. They are all together here, the Wolves who remain, the Wolves who were there first; Radegast the tallest, Jolder close behind him, the others ranging through the drifts. Efrideet has gone, and only Saladin seems to think the plague has not claimed her as it has the others.
There are no berries here, only the glowing red of unnatural growth: rampant, hungry; brambles twisted by the programmed need to consume. She had to turn away when the tendrils brought shambling half-life back to Nirwen’s corpse, and when Jolder smote her down again and again it was with tears in her eyes and no laughter in her heart.
“West they ran, in packs of three, towards the dying Light -”
Perun barks out a laugh. “You’re still going, even now?”
“Even now,” she says, because she cannot stop, even if the words are no longer a celebration but a dirge. The ice that clings to their cloaks will not kill them but it can slow them, and speed is the only chance they have. So Radegast claims - but she knows, just as they all know, that they are marching to their deaths.
“Mercy,” Nirwen cried out as she fell, the same word that was on her lips when she rose, over and over, the sound of it twisted just as Nirwen had been twisted, until at last Jolder granted her wish and the thing that wore Nirwen fell silent.
“Bayed and howled as they went, Iron in their hands.”
The syllables sound too sharp in the way that Perun’s teeth look too sharp when the deep, cool liquor of the berries stains them. The snows end, and they descend into the forgotten hollows carved beneath the ruins of Old Russia. There is a strange heat here, though they are far from the sun; a heat that does not warm so much as it oppresses, and she shivers again beneath layers of leather and metal and fur.
The plague tries to stop them as they wind their way deeper, but they are pack now, the nine who remain; practiced, strong, they fight as one with a grimness of purpose that she remembers from the early days, when at last they learned to trust each other. No warlord, no Fallen could have stopped them as they are now. And yet death has always been the punishment for hubris, for those unworthy of the grail, and Timur at least would see the irony, the parallel.
There are no berries here. When they fell from her overflowing hands she let them lie, so that new seeds might take root. An echo of the greed that led them to this moment, perhaps; the belief that if they ever sipped too much the spilled drops would lead to ever-greater things, not to Lords lying dead and cold in the snow.
Get up, someone had begged Finnala. They had not needed to beg Nirwen.
“West they ran, in packs of three, towards the dying Light,” she says again, as the radiance consumes her for what must be the thousandth time, as she burns away another reaching swarm. Beside her, Gheleon says nothing, his trigger-pulls unerring, his face the mask it always is.
They make it to the chamber, and Radegast dies almost as soon as they breach the doors, torn apart by writhing constructs, the cry of fury on his lips cut short. Felwinter falls soon after, and she watches as his body disappears beneath the swarm, watches him rise again, his light gone, and turn his weapon on Silimar. Despite all that they have achieved, all that they have built, only this ignominy awaits them; the bonds that could not be broken in life are undone so quickly in death.
Gheleon screams. Perun does not; roars instead, but her end is the same, and her bright eyes go forever dark.
She thinks of berries, black and red, thinks of smiles and stains and white teeth and dark earth and green growth, of laughter well-earned and well-enjoyed. Gone, just as the memory of them will soon be gone. Jolder finds her eyes from across the room, and as the mites begin to swarm her, as she feels them forcing their way into eyes and ears and throat, she frees her fire for what she knows will be the final time, burns brighter than she ever has.
“West they run, in packs of three, towards the dying Light,
Far behind them stands the Tree, boughs as black as night.”
They were the first, and it is fitting that they are the last. Fitting that they should be forgotten, just as their forebears were all but forgotten. It is Jolder’s duty now, to do what must be done. She will not ask for mercy, for she knows that none awaits. She hopes only that when she falls, she does not rise; that the dark that has always lived in the shadow of their glory will, in the end, bring her rest.

WHY IS OSIRIS SO DAMN POWERFUL?????? WHY IS HE THE CHOSEN ONE
he's ancient. old as dirt.
also he trained under felwinter (and nirwen) and we know felwinter had... unconventional methods (using a titan shoulder charge for example) so he probably never... restricted himself to one particular discipline.

SITS here thinking about o14.
Specifically food as a love language.
Like.
saint was... always there at the beginning. osiris had mentors during the dark ages (felwinter, nirwen) but he wasn't as close to them. they were mentors, they weren't people he could get close to. not in the way he got close to saint. lightbearers are born with nothing. no memories, no friends or family. so saint filled that sort of... void. the way they met wasn't inherently about their roles as lightbearers, they met by sharing a meal. it was never just about their roles as guardians. osiris's other close relationships were inherently about their roles, with ikora he was mentoring a warlock. with the speaker it was about the light and the traveler. but with saint there was a distinct like... difference in their relationship. saint was osiris's home, he's the one he'll go to when the war is done because it was never just about their roles. it was about sharing a meal together.

Don’t forget that Rasputin played a heavy hand in getting both of Osiris’s mentors killed, if not being directly responsible for at least one of their deaths. Both Nirwen and Felwinter were iron lords, meaning that they were both a part of the massacare of the first SIVA crisis? And leading up to the SIVA replication chamber, Rasputin was the one killing everyone (i believe at some points even using SIVA to do it but dont quote me on that). We know Nirwen didn’t even make it to the chamber, so Rasputin most likely killed them. And then, we know Felwinter got to the chamber, but only after having his life’s work of trying to work along side Rasputin blow up in his face violently.
What i’m saying is. Osiris absolutely has personal grudge against Rasputin, and I feel like it’s entirely justified

Tumblr media
The City was nothing more than a little settlement at this time, just being build, when Aine walked in hurried steps through the camp, Saladin by her side. The two friends were chatting about Efrideet’s latest shenanigans, when Lugh popped up by their side, shell wildly moving. “Lord Felwinter asks for your presence, Aine. Seems urgent.”
“I guess, you are occupied again. See you later for tea?” Saladin gave her a gentle smile.
“Of course, how could I miss it. If you find time while Zavala is pulling Shaxx’s horns. They’re like children.” There was fondness in her words. The two young Titans had really grown on her. She almost viewed them like her sons.. Even if they were embarrassed by her mothering them. But she did that to all her friends.
“Tell me about it. I’ll see you in the afternoon then. Be safe, Aine.”
She nodded as a goodbye and then jogged across the field, through the small alleys between tents and makeshift buildings, until she reached one specific large tent, where a heated discussion was going on. She made out the voices of Felwinter, Nirwen and another man.
Nirwen stormed out and threw his hands up in the air. Once he laid eyes on her, his expression changed to one of pure despair. “Aine.. Please, tell me you can bring these two to shut their mouths for one second!”
“What’s wrong?” She smiled gently and patted the other Warlock on the shoulders.
“Felwinter and his new...apprentice.. Having an hour long discussion and my head hurts from it. He asked for you because he wants your insight. Don’t indulge them! It’s too dangerous!” There was humor in his voice, though.
“Oh, thank you for your concern, my brave knight, but I can handle the ego of two men.”
“Famous last words, my friend. Famous last words.” Nirwen chuckled to himself and lifted his hand, before he hurried away, probably to get his ghost to heal his headache and some quiet. Aine, though, proceeded further and entered the devil’s tent. She almost collided with someone. Her hands pushed against a broad chest and she looked up into two pale green eyes, narrowed with suspicion. “Where are you going? Can’t you use your eyes?”
“Was too busy looking into yours, Sunrise.”, he commented with a smirk. Aine made a noise of disgust and pushed past him. She just wanted to know why Felwinter called for her and be done with it.
“Felwinter! Who is this asshole?”, she spat out, pretty offended.
“His name’s Osiris. Promising Warlock. Pretty smart.. Maybe too smart. Why you ask?” The Exo focussed his gaze on her, always watching, thinking, knowing things. Some people thought he was scary and he might be.. But Aine knew him too long, to be actually afraid of him.
“He’s a dick.”, was her only comment, before she looked over the notes on the table. Felwinter just chuckled quietly, a rare and somewhat sinister sound. With that, they got to work.

Weisnewski and The Interview
November 25, 2017
So the topic of the day is Crucible thanks to the Weisnewski appearance on Crucible radio. So with that in mind and all the dialogue it's sparked, I think it's a good time to really reflect on how we got to today.
Destiny 1 was a very different experience when it released than D2. It was a Bungie game, so we went in expecting top notch gun play but I know I was shocked when I loaded into my first Crucible match at level 5 or 6 and realized that I had the same green weapons I had equipped in PvE.
It was something so different from any other fps if played that I was genuinely stunned. My first thought was that I was going to be severely outgunned and maybe I should wait to try PVP until I had better weapons; but my second thought was "Holy shit, any great weapons I find in PvE, I can use here''
And I was hooked. I hit level 20 and got Suros and was having fun using it but then something happened here on these forums. People started bashing anyone who used Suros. It wasn't fair and had to be nerfed. It took all the fun out of the gun because no matter how well you played
you suck and just need that crutch
So I switched to MIDA, doubled my kills per game and shook my head as the cries persisted.
Just call it Iron Suros
Then TDB dropped and gave us truly great Pulse Rifles like Coiled Hiss (the OG Grasp). ARs like Up for Anything and Vanquisher VII. Scouts like B-Line Trauma.
HoW saw the disappointing AR nerf, but with reforging we had a golden age of overall balance. Already great Pulse Rifles got a 9% damage buff to weapons like Coiled Hiss and Hopscotch Pilgrim. Exotics were buffed across the board. Scouts could be rolled full auto. Hand Cannons were awesome. Fusion Rifles were the badass reliable weapons of Destruction we finally see again in D2. Shotguns were glorious. Truth, Gjally, Corrective Measure. Icebreaker. LDR 5001.
All balanced in an ecosystem with truly great abilities, supers and grenades.
Blink! Shoulder Charge! Flame Shields! Lightning Grenades! Fusion and Firebolts!
OHK weapons and abilities. DoTs. Rock, paper, scissors balance in a beautiful complex dance.
It was truly a golden age and everyone looks back and says D1 was so good, why can't we go back?
But it's ignoring that these forums that now ache for those days despised them at the time.
Thooooooooorn! It's not fair! It's op! It's a crutch!
Reforging sucks! Everyone just rolls Felwinters with shot package
DoTs aren't fair! I have to leave the action to regain health!
Shoulder charge is op! It's not fair! It's free kills!
OMG Blink is bullshit! All anyone does is Blink+slide+shotgun!
And on. And on. And on.
So what happened?
Bungie didn't have the conviction to stand behind this unique experience they created and they read all the posts demanding change and they capitulated.
Ecosystem
TTK saw the death of Thorn, Red Death, Full Auto Scouts and Reforging, which led to the rise of Nirwens Mercy, which led to the great Pulse Rifle nerf, which led to MIDA, which led to its nerf, which led to Snipers, then nerfed, shotguns again, nerfed, special ammo nerfed, heavy ammo nerfed, shoulder charge nerfed, blink nerfed, melee nerfed, and every single change to the ecosystem just threw it further out of whack and did it stop the complaints? Did it ease the call for nerfs?
Nope.
Abilities are op. PvP is just ability spam!
OHK grenades are bullshit!
It was so FUBAR, players actually begged for and got AN ARTIFACT nerfed. There was no going back and even if you suggested that HoW was the model, people still screamed about "Thorn" and "Reforging sucked!" as we were left with a game devoid of primary play and ammo for specials and heavy.
We got to D2 together. Bungie and the community and to anyone who says they don't listen, maybe we wouldn't have seen all the slow death of rotating metas if they just hadn't.
So here we are today and the talk is Weisnewski and The Interview.
And here's the funny thing. D2 had to change and as much as a lot of us would've liked year 1 crucible back, they weren't going back to that and they've been justified to a degree by the fact that we've already seen movements to nerf MIDA, Last Hope and Pulse Grenades and now players are asking for HCR to be nerfed because apparently a perk that every single player has access to is "unfair"
So we as a community can say all we want that we want random rolls or vanilla PvP back, but it's just not true. Players want to win and when they die, they want to feel it was something outside their control and not admit they maybe got outplayed, so they blame the gun. Blame the ability. Blame the team-shooting. Blame the connection.
And the truth of D2 PvP is that it's the closest to HoW this game has been since. It's the first time since before TTK where you can go into PvP and know EXACTLY how your gun is going to perform and not only do primaries matter, they each have their own unique personalities and feel that make finding THE ONE tantamount to the perfect reforge of old.
For the first time since HoW and the challenge of facing and beating opponents using Thorn, Red Death or TLW with a perfect scout, that feeling is back outgunning Uriel's, MIDA and Last Hope with Cuboid, Armillary, Martyr's Make, Origin Story...
And outside of Crucible it's the most diverse kill feeds I've ever seen in Destiny.
Mistakes were made. Many and horrible. Some things still need improved. Melee, grenades, abilities.
Some things still need to be answered for and changed like only 4v4 and random playlists. But we asked Bungie to communicate and whatever your opinion of Weisnewski and whether you agree or disagree with his views, he showed up and he was forthcoming and honest.
My reaction and feedback I gave is to not nerf HCR and if they're going to do anything, give more rock, paper, scissors counters. The game needs work. A lot more than it should, but D1 weapons and balance were a dumpster fire.

On this episode: We play some new crucible, capturing all the points and kicking all kinds of ass, though the new 4v4 thing slowed things down a bit and you do have to do more team work tactics if you want to win. I love that pulse rifle but I miss my Nirwen’s Mercy with the awesome stability. @nirwen replied to your post “i can honestly say that symmetra’s halloween skin makes me want to cry...”
im horrified by the sight of a whitewashed symmetra but i dont think thats the kind of scare blizzard was going for
ikr?? i mean blizzard has stated that changes are coming to symmetra, but i didn’t expect whitewashing to be one of them
it honestly makes me so sad bc they’ve been pretty good with their poc representation (y’know, compared to others..) and now this happens.........
