Nicky Valentino (from Fictif) is an absolute comfort character for me, which means I’ve collected some information about him!
I just feel like I need to share what I’ve gathered with others who might be interested! Feel free to comment any other facts/headcannons/etc you guys have, I love to hear what other people think or picked up!
First off, here is a list of actual facts that can be found in the story or stated by the authors of TATW:
* The story takes place some time after April 1925 (cause Nicky knew about The Great Gatsby), but before August 1929 (because the story takes place before The Great Depression) - which is a 4 year 4 month time difference
* Possibly before 1928 (which is when phones changed from the candlestick) — that would make it a 3 year time gap
* He keeps a small tin of dog treats in his breast pocket incase he stumbles upon a stray
* There was a 3 year age gap between him and his sister
* His birthday is on November 12th.
* Nicky's favourite animal is the wolf.
* Nicky’s zodiac is Scorpio.
* His favourite colour is blue.
* His favourite alcoholic drink is whiskey.
* His favourite dishes are lobster, PB&J and anything made by MC.
* His favourite books are This Side Of Paradise and The Sun Also Rises.
* He was born in Sicily, Italy. Grew up in South Brooklyn
* Nicky is Catholic.
* His crimes include bootlegging, racketeering, obstruction of justice and loansharking.
* He did not enjoy his first time.
* His first kiss was when he was 15.
* His celebrity crush is Gloria Swanson.
* His dad kicked him out of the house for dressing like a gangster.
* He used to shine shoes as a teenager.
* In Chapter 9, two of his other henchmen are named/called Johnnyboy and Richie.
* In Chapter 10, it's revealed that he has made several charitable donations to a homeless shelter, a boys and girls club, and the church he went to as a kid.
* HE SINGS SWANEE TO MC WHILE THEY DANCE ON A BRIDGE AT NIGHT (I absolutely adore this song, so I about passed out when I read this scene lol)
* He is big reader and likes to learn from the books
* He grew up with big dogs
* If he wasn’t a gangster he would own a dog rescue center or be a model
* He is left handed
* His parents are from the country
* He had lots of nightmares as a kid
* His sister, Sofia, loved daisies
* Central Park is one of his favorite places in the city

* This man straight up had flower crowns for us to wear and dance in before the wedding (I’d like to think he made them with the help of a maid who taught him)
Now some of my personal headcannons:
* When Mc and him are riding together he sits in the seat diagonal to the driver, cause that is the most dangerous seat in the mob world
* An Italian pet name Nicky calls MC is ‘Cara Mia’ which translates to my dear
* If Nicky and Mc have a daughter they would name her Sofia in memory his little sister.
* Definitely has some children’s books scattered among his bookshelf, considering he said…
* He would most definitely do that thing where his kid stands on top of his feet and then dances them around the room
* Would be so down to adopt kids. Growing up on the streets, and having a horrible father, make him want to help all of the children in a similar position
* Would definitely want a big Italian family (if Mc was also down) cause he find family so important, and it makes him so happy to see their children. If Mc only wanted one kid though he would totally be fine, he is just so soft for the family dynamic and his kids
* (Ultrasounds weren’t a thing until the 1950’s, but let’s say they were created sooner) Nick would 110% tear up/cry seeing the first ultrasound, and once the baby is born and in Mc/his hands for the first time
* He LIVES for the cute domestic stuff. Like just cuddling and/or talking: ✅ Washing dishes together: sold! Making breakfast for Mc/together: a must!
* Nick has bi-wife energy and no one can convince me otherwise
* This man’s love language is 110% acts of service

He absolutely, like absolutely ADORES you.
He like seeing you getting along with stranger's kids pretty well.
Like when you two are just taking a walk and saw a baby looking at you funny from their parent's shoulder, you'd playfully wave at them and play peekaboo as they let out a surprised giggle. You chuckled quietly to yourself so you don't interrupt the parent.
Nicky finds it REALLY ADORABLE like "with our kid when 🧎"
Or also when he held a charity event, he saw you kneeling down to the kids' level and talking softly to them with your softness in your eyes just makes his heart MELT
You befriended with a lot of neighborhood kids and they ADORES you as much as he does.
You're so friendly and welcoming but they didn't saw that at first until you truly show to them that your intentions are good.
Sometimes you don't wanna follow Nicky with his business just to hang out with the kids. He later found you playing ball with them a few blocks away.
Seeing you laughing when they beat you and cheering + high-fiving them when your team wins just makes him fall in love with you again.
Sometimes Chris joined you and thus begin the big match between two teams >:)
The other day you and Nicky roaming around town to get some fresh air, some kids walked by and their eyes immediately lighted up when they saw you.
"Hi y/n!" they excitedly waved at you. A bit surprised to stumbled through them, you gladly waved and hey them back.
Now you can't tell me that Nicky ain't feelin' a bit envious for your charm for those rugrats. He didn't look that intimating but you make it look like it's so easy he can't help it.
Dr strange meme where he said "teach me" that's him
"Wow. And here I thought I'm everyone's favorite." He joked as you elbowed him and laughed with him.
Also hear me out. Imagine those kids. YOUR kids. Getting into trouble and you saved them by defending them before the police or any adults beat em up for stealing and pay for whatever damage to leave the kids alone since you're practically rich.
When Nicky heard about tis, boy I'd be lying saying this man won't get down on his knee and propose you right there and then again-
If you're babysitting a younger sibling, niece/nephew or friend's kid beware that the ex mob boss will have eyes on you. He'd help you ofc but you seem to have it under control so he just admiring you with your natural talent as he dream you did the same to his kids.
Speaking of his kids, either of you gonna bring up the topic. Doesn't matter who did it first it's never not gonna be exciting.
You two could talk about it all day. About having as many as you want as your own and what you're gonna name them.
Or maybe you simply wanna adopt them. Whatever works for him and I don't need to make a full speech bout it cuz we know tis man loves kids and you. Canon. Period 👌

Nicky with an Mc who crochets!
I couldn't stop thinking about this while I was working on my big blanket that im crocheting... so i hope yall enjoy! it's shorter than past headcanons, but it's smthn!
(remember to check my hc rules before requesting!)
(if requests are closed and you send a request anyway, I'll have to delete it)
he probably finds out when he sees you staring longingly at some crochet hooks or yarn.
maybe you're touching the yarn, and looking at it the way only someone who works yarn would look at it.
He'd ask you what was up and you'd sheepishly turn to him and explain that one of your favorite pastimes back where you came from was crocheting and that you'd admittedly began to miss it
cue Nicky's "spoil you and make you the happiest person ever" switch being flipped.
Nicky doesn't know anything about crocheting but by god you are gonna get an entire crochet kit even better than the one you had back home.
the only thing he isnt gonna mess with until he learns more about you and your crocheting is the yarn.
this man had tried to go shopping for yarn personally to surprise you and was flabbergasted at how many types there were.
so he ended up grabbing some yarn that was soft and would make a good blanket just to be safe.
once he learns what types of yarn you tend to go for and what colors, you can bet you're gonna have more than a lifetime supply of yarn.
he is so impressed with how you're able to weave the yarn together with such ease and create something so beautiful out of a few balls of yarn.
need a new pattern to try out? he will search for a book for you or find someone who can help you with that.
he probably knows a guy who knows another guy who knows who can help
im just gonna say this now. crochet him something. crochet him a scarf and he will wear it all winter long. crochet him a blanket and he will insist on using it to cuddle on the couch
or if you make a cool tapestry out of granny squares. it's gettin hung up somewhere, he'll find a place for it
he was never one for anything but the classic fancy suits, plain scarfs, classic fancy house decor… but smthn about the things you create makes him lose interest in his usual taste.
plain scarves are replaced with the softest crocheted scarf that has beautiful designs. the couch now has a colorful blanket draped over the back. a once bare wall now has a beautiful tapestry.
"my love, you truly bring color and warmth into my life. color and warmth i never coulda imagined having"
i bet he'd show it off too. you know those tiktoks where its a bunch of men looking at what one of the mens partner packed him for lunch? thats Nicky with Chris and his other closer friends.
oh yeah now Chris wants a cool scarf too. and a blanket. no pressure though. but he's certainly willing to pay.
just imagine a nice cozy night by the fireplace, you leaning back against him, crocheting a cozy blanket while he reads a book.
Eventually when he's tired and/or done reading, he'd wrap his arms around your waist, taking care not to mess you up, and rest his head on your shoulder. He'd press a tender kiss to your neck, and make a comment about how gorgeous you look when you're so focused.
after you two have been married for a while, i could see that becoming almost a nightly ritual for you guys. just enjoying each others presence and being comfortable and in love <3333
if you're anything like me and kinda use it as a form of meditation or a way to sit still, it certainly will become a nightly ritual.
if he catches you crocheting too much and making your hands all sore, he's gonna make you set that hook down so he can massage them and take care of your precious hands (and get attention and affection from you, but he wont admit that unless you call him out first)

I have a request but it's a tad odd:

Okay bc you two get cockblocked so often this only enhances your experience when you two finally do get a chance to yourselves. Needless to say, he takes his time with you and makes sure you're properly horny, hot, and bothered before giving you what you want.

Nicky would love a soft mc but would be surprised that a total softie like mc is chill with Nicky's crew and lifestyle since it's the complete opposite of mc's personality.
Whenever tensions are high, mc knows how to calm everyone down and never fails to bring a smile to someone's face.
Mc does so through baking, duh. Mc will bring everyone their favorite treats and learn everything about Italian bakes to please Nicky and his crew. (Personally, I don't know anything about baking especially Italian baked goods, because I'm Portuguese technically, I'm half Portuguese, sorry Nicky)
Mc would win Nicky's crew over in a heartbeat because no one can say no to mc's baking and warm personality.
Everywhere mc goes, they always have a baked good in hand to hand out to anyone and everyone.
Chris especially loves mc's baking and would be glad to be considered mc's child/responsibility.
Nicky and mc will hand out baked goods to children and families in need like they did in the Christmas side story. (If you haven't read that story, please do cause it's so good!)
If Nicky and mc have children, they would be spoiled with all of mc's bakes. Also, mc would be so soft with their kid(s) and give them the best hugs and kisses!
Mc would also give Nicky the best hugs and kisses, obviously!
Nicky swoons over mc every time he looks at them because they are always smiling and in a good mood, which instantly puts Nicky in a good mood.
If Nicky is ever sad or in a bad mood, mc will cheer him up with their baking and with thousands of forehead kisses.

headcanons for living w Ralph
* you both spent some time talking about this, and finally came to the conclusion to buy together a separate apartment ( he insisted on knowing the city better, so he's choosing the place and also paying)
* strange but somehow u got a nice penthouse apartment for almost free... and he doesn't mention how the he got it...
* Sadly Ralph lacks any taste in aesthetics or any idea how to run a home
* it took him some time to get used to the concept of scents and having more than 2 pillows on one bed( pillows on the couch????¿¿)
* pleased with every choice that mc makes, but i think he prefers the "boujie" style in decor so if it comes in gold he'll take it
* " huh, see how far we've come sweets? As a kid i didn't even know that there could be cutlery that comes in gold... i didn't even know what cutlery was"
* u both share a walk in closet, after a while mc noticed 7 identical pairs of black leather gloves "what? a pair for each day of the week"
* most of his clothes are black/ white or grey, the only colourful clothing piece he has is a pink kneaded sweater mc gifted him for christmas with a red heart on it.

* headcanon for mc who likes to read: plenty of books in the house, Ralph never read much in his life. But once u proposed to read for him and now he can't get enough of it

* when he leaves early( which is often) he always makes you coffee and occasionally leaves a stack of dollars on the table( idk how much he makes lets say that enough to do stuff like this once a week or so)

* let's say that every cabinet is filled w mc's stuff and the harsh reality is that he'd use a shampoo and a soap bar, and somewhere in the corner is his razor

* will get very stressed over it
* but it's not just the shampoos, there are so many scented candles that everything and everyone in your apartment smells of flowers
* eventually got used to it and the ones that clowned him for it died in a crossfire so he's done stressing
* if and when he comes home late, clearly after some issues at "work" mc consoles him and takes care of his wounds

Boy firstly he'd be mad. But not at you mostly at himself for failing to take a good care of you. So you gotta comfort this dude.

Clearly it depends. This hc is between average and minor injuries. Like you beat some street gangsters' asses (and wins) or just accidentally cut yourself while working.

This brings me to another conclusion and a request: HC for Nicky being a heat radiator??

First things first: BEST. HUGS. EVER.
His hugs are like those mornings where you wake up and you’re all cozy and warm in your blankets.
If you’re always cold, he’s always holding you. You’re like his lil ice pack <3
Taking a nap on this man. OOUGH taking a nap on this man.
You ever seen how peaceful and content a cat looks while napping in the sunlight? That’s how it feels to lay on him and take a nap.
During the winter, his warmth is a life saver. It could be below freezing and all you need to do is wiggle your way into his coat with him and shove your face into his chest and bam you’re warming up already.
I do think it would be so funny if you had cold hands and pressed them on his bare back unexpectedly bc he would absolutely arch his back and make a funny noise.
He’s not the type of warm person to ice box the entire house though. The man wears suits all the time (even in summer), he’s pretty resistant to temperatures and probably just keeps it pleasantly warm or cool in his house.
I don’t think you’ll ever be shivering with him around. He won’t care where you are or who’s watching, if you need his warmth, you’re getting it.
Just sitting next to him, you can feel his comforting warmth radiating off of him
Tbh his heart melts every single time you give in and lean your head on his shoulder and hug is arm.
And ooohohoho yes if you hug his warm face to your chest, he’ll get so blushy and press kisses there while wrapping his arms around you.
And good lord, if you beg him to stay in bed with you in the mornings because he’s so warm, he will fold faster than the folding chair I fell through in highschool.
He’s so weak for you he’d probably cancel everything or have someone else take care of things in order to stay in bed with you for as long as you’d like.
If you’re also warm…good luck not overheating.
Nicky won’t mind the heat, but if you get sweaty and overheat easily the poor guy is gonna try to figure out how he can cuddle with you without making you overheat.
If he has to make the house colder and get a fan for you, he will.
His body warmth is probably more intimidating to those who aren’t close to him.
Chris probably pokes at him for being a softie when he’s holding you and giving you warmth.
Ofc only when it’s just you three, Chris respects you and Nicky and would think better than to say that stuff in front of the other guys.
Tbh none of the guys dare question how tough Nicky is, even when he's soft with you in front of them. they know what he's capable of.
Honestly they find it intimidating in itself that he's not afraid to be soft with you but tough with them at the same time 🤔

soulmate au, you wake up in your soulmates bed.....
Personally, I think I'd pass out if I found anyone in my bed, but Nicky is one smoooooth talker, I wouldn't be surprised if this has happened to him already before.

It was just your first lazy Saturday of the month, something you had been longing for every single day while at work, counting down the hours until you could go back to your quiet apartment and have some peace. However, as you had awoken, feeling strangely well-rested and cosy, your sheets felt strangely...silky? Rubbing the sleepiness from your eyes, you began to inspect the newfound comfort surrounding you until your eyes locked with another pair. A gorgeous, hazel pair that were staring curiously down at you. Speechless, all you could do was lie there with your mouth agape, most likely resembling a little goldfish in front of this man lying next to you.
He chuckled deeply, resting his head on his hand as he inspected you further, obviously too tired to comprehend the fact that he had never met you before. "Not that I have any objections to finding a gorgeous broad like you in my bed...but how exactly did you wind up in here, hm?" You looked genuinely terrified, only finally realising that you weren't in your own bed, let along your own home anymore.
The fact that you couldn't exactly formulate an answer, your voice wavering and your sentences being incoherent at the best of times, Nicky simply placed a calming hand on your shoulder, his eyes now boring into yours. "Hey, toots, take a breath. You're gonna give yourself a panic attack if you're not careful."
Trying to calm down as he said, you were eventually able to explain to him that you had no idea how you had left your home, as well as apologising profusely, all of which making him smile wider each time you became flustered within your story.
"So you're telling me that you have no idea how you got here from your own bed, yes?"
You nodded hurriedly.
"And you don't know who I am?"
Another rushed nod came his way.
"How interesting...I remember sneaking in and watching a film like this once, never thought this whole soulmate baloney could be real." Cracking another toothy grin, he stood up and wrapped his dressing gown around himself before turning back to you, offering his arm.
"C'mon then, doll, let's get you some breakfast."
