Heaven done goofed:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Referencing this post about how Mac gets out of LBD's deal in the Century Egg au.
@cosmicskynova; Wukong only told Macaque about his true reason for seeking immortality when he got back. Wukong didn't want the world to know that he ultimately wanted to have kids/raise the next generation of Stone Monkeys. He figured that he could tell Mac when the topic of having cubs happened post-war, but then the break up happened and well...
When he's finally told, Mac's mouth just hangs open in shock and guilt as he remembers how he called his mate an "obsessive demon" for seeking out so many forms of immortalities. He's not sure what he could have done if he had known, but certainly he would have treated Wukong kinder when he was imprisoned.
As for all of Heaven? Wukong was forced to explain his reasonings while arguing for Macaque's immortal soul during the LBD incident. A bunch of Celestial and Diyu judges argued that Macaque should be sent back to Diyu entirely, regardless of his deal with LBD. Others dragged up Wukong's old crimes in Heaven in order to discredit his defense of his mate.
Wukong manages to explain (with Gold Star and Guanyin's backing) to the courts of Heaven and Diyu that he sought out immortality so he could safely birth a child given that the method present to him had a high death rate. If he wasn't physically immortal, he would likely have left his baby an orphan. The court is eeriely silent after he explains this. The Queen Mother notably stiffles a tear.
Fire Star managed to spin the tale of Mac's revival in the monkeys' favor by telling it as Macaque learning about Wukong's pregnancy and wanting to be there by any means possible for his mate and child, no matter the current status of their relationship. The gods are a suckers for devoted parents.
LBD immediately gets a warrant out for her immediate re-sealing/arrest once Macaque fufills his end of the deal - accompanied by every death god and deity on hand to make sure that the Bone Demon can't escape to cause havoc.
After it's all said and done, Wukong has the crippling realisation that all of Heaven now knows that 1: Sun Wukong is pregnant, and 2: He became immortal to have a baby.
Having Heaven *know* about his Egg after keeping it a secret for so long unnerves Wukong a lot. But he starts to overhear some odd stuff the Celestials are saying after LBD's arrest.
Celestial 1#: "Well you honestly can't blame him given his condition. My wife once smashed a whole ceramics set when she spilled her ginger tea." Celestial 2#: "True. I hear pregnancy hormones can truly turn the gentlelest creature into a rampaging dragon." Celestial 1#: "Honestly if only we had known at the time, the monkey could have been pardoned for medical reasons."
Thats how Wukong learns that most of Heaven assumes from the trial that he's been pregnant since *before* the Journey since they have no idea how long the average Stone Monkey gestation is. Heaven has started to rewrite the Havoc in Heaven as the universes' biggest pregnancy tantrum. Wukong revels in the grovelling of the soldiers and judges that tried to kill him in the past.
Only trusted individuals like Guanyin (maternally furious at Wukong but adoring), Lao Tzu (able to help out medically), Gold Star (only one with first-hand accounts of Stone Monkeys), and ofc Nezha are told how long Wukong's actually been pregnant for. Erlang knew before hand because Wukong and PIF told him about Stone Eggs, but he still acts more gently toward Wukong than before.
You better believed Nezha has some strong things to say to Wukong after he finds out why he "went mediatating" for 500 years!

Okay so your post about the circlet/band thingies that wukong and Nezha wear? I just had a thought
Okay so we all know that wukong is perfectly fine with and actively promotes himself as a dangerous menace to society, right? Right. And he met Nezha when he was still pretty young, and they eventually became friends because of that mutual reputation of being dangerous menaces to society
So! What if somewhere in their friendship Nezha wanted to stop being seen as a menace or, if you will, a Demon Child. By, oh I don’t know, using the same thing that kept the monkey king’s power in check. Idk tho just a thought. And what if, somewhere in that plan, Wukong found out and tried to make that not happen, in wukongs own special way of course (badly), resulting in Nezhas dislike of Wukong today!
I AM A GENIUS AND A SCHOLAR
ok but why is this actually genius. Because of course Nezha would do that he’s such a self sacrificing idiot. In other media like Nezha(birth of the demon child) he’s openly portrayed as a menace. Why isn’t he a menace now? One he probably got tired of the bad reputation, and his rep was probably even shittier becuse of his association with wukong. This in turn probably planted the seeds of resentment and frustration towards wukong in Nezha’s view. And then Nezha like the self sacrificing idiot he is tries to use the objects that controlled the great monkey king to prove his controlled and not a menace. And everyone in the celestial realm are kind of assholes so they either don’t bother to help or encourage him telling him it’s a difficult but wise decision to make. And eventually wu kong hears about this but doesn’t get the full story. He bursts in just as they finish and attacks the people there people nezha considers tentative friends and they run away. Wukong rushes in panicking trying to get the bands off acting like he’s worried and nezha blows up(maybe literally with fire). For all he knows wukong just attacked him and his friends probably ruining some of the only relationships he’s had in the celestial realm and sullying the reputation further. Wukong thinks he’s saving Nezha and Nezha things Wukong is trying to ruin what he has because he’s jealous. Fight ensues and they argue a bunch. Wukong expresses how he was only trying to help and Nezha screams that he didn’t need help because this is what he wanted. Wukong says he’s not in his right mind and that’s the final straw. In a burst of power he destroys the bands and fights Wukong. He wins (mostly because Wukong has his bands still on and is in shock from the whole situation.) Nezha tells him to leave and never come back .As the celestial armies start to circle them Wukong fleas. To add a cherry of suffering and resentment on top of the milkshake Nezha was one of the only friends that Wukong was still good with after the brotherhood and macaque left him. And for Nezha after the journey to the west and Wukong proving he was good since they were in bad standing was scorned and looked down on more than before. Once again he was falling, and it was Wukongs fault.
just some food for thought :) if you have any questions feel free to ask
Notes/Answered questions: Why was Nezha able to break the bands in battle when Wukong couldn’t break his circlet? Simple The only reason Nezha was able to break his is because he needed to access his full power and his only intention to use that full power was too help protect the celestial realm to the fullest extent aiding it and spinning the web of manipulation further without them having to lift a finger.
Why was Wukong able to come in in the first place? Jade emperor and higher ups allowed it because they planned to use nezha in the future and place him in a powerful and influential role. Putting him against what they currently see as the celestial realms biggest threat was a good move and it wouldn’t do if they had a good relationship. Why did the jade emperor not do anything after Nezha started to fall out of Grace, when the Journey to the West finished? He still sees Wukong as a threat and believes he can, and we’ll go rouge any moment.

RANDOM FANFIC IDEA(that anyone can use if they want, just credit me.)
AU: MK dies from over using his power but Wukong manages to trap his soul into a jar. Now the crew has to figure out how to get MK back, since they want to keep him in their lives. With the help of Nezha, they figured out there’s a potion to rebirth MK but they need a host to get pregnant for it.
Now I’ve created four routes for this AU, I might make more if I want to, but anyways the routes are:
Lotus baby: Nezha takes the potion and pours it into a Lotus seed, he explains that no one needs to actually get pregnant, they just need a host. So Nezha takes care of the Lotus seed until it blooms and reveals a baby monkey MK with faded pink hair. Nezha becomes official brothers with baby MK who now has Flower powers and Monkey king powers.
(TW: Mention of miscarriage)
Dragon egg: Mei takes the potion and explained that her mother recently had an (unfortunate) unfertilized dragon egg that they could put the potion in. So they take the potion to Mei’s parents and at first they refuse but then Mei’s mother still wanted another baby, so she agreed and put the potion into the egg which fertilized it. Mei’s family takes care of the egg for the next year and nine months and then BOOM, Mixed dragon-monkey toddler MK was born and then raised by Mei’s parents.(btw MK is a toddler because he grew in the egg since dragon hatch from eggs and live a really long time.)
(This is the part where Mpreg is mentioned, so if you’re uncomfortable with that then skip these two routes, Please.)
The freenoodles piglet: Tang decided to be the host since He and Pigsy raised MK, and drank the potion. Pigsy (with the help of the others), help Tang with troubles and joys of pregnancy. When Tang gives birth to Our pride and joy, MK, he now only has a monkey tail and claws while the rest of his body is human. Tang and Pigsy raise MK again but now with the powers edition. :)
The Shadowpeach infant: Wukong begs Pigsy and Tang to let him give birth to MK, since he felt that MK and he developed a Father and child bond and the fact that he feels guilty that MK died from his mistakes. Pigsy and Tang reluctantly agreed(Pigsy: Damn those baby monkey eyes.), and Wukong drinks the potion. Now after everyone talked about it, Wukong was going to stay in Flower Fruit Mountain for the pregnancy since it’s safer but there was a problem, who would help Wukong during his second and third trimester? Suddenly A emo monkey appears! Macaque volunteered since he knows how demon monkeys work since he is one, he can easily tell the others when MK is being born with shadow clones, he has a father-son relationship with MK too, and he already lived on the mountain anyways. (Wukong raised an eyebrow at that but anyways) Wukong agreed and the two of them went to FFM. During this pregnancy, They worked out more of their communication issues and got back together(DBK: for the fifth time in a row!), The Demon Bull Family visited(even though we never got to see how Wukong and the demon family worked it out!), Pigsy and Tang fuss over Wukong like a lot. And then MK is born like a regular monkey demon with Wukong’s powers.
Now here are some extras you can put into the story routes!
Redson having a crisis since she had a crush on MK but getting over it as they realized that his MK won’t be coming back and he should embrace this new MK. (This is for Spicynoodles fans if you want angst for Redson. Also if you want Redson could develop a crush on Mei instead if you’re also a Dragonfruit fan.)
Wukong, Pigsy, Tang and or Macaque fussing over MK’s host like the dads they are. This will annoy the caretakers and they’ll tell them that they need to realize that MK is being taken care and that they(the caretakers) need a break from their fussiness! The MK dads (reluctantly) agree and take a step back. (Wukong and Macaque ignores this and use bug transformations to spy on MK’s host without the Caretakers noticing, expect for Nezha. Don’t worry Nezha scolds them for being clingy.)
Crazy baby MK shenanigans(I gave y’all a lot of potential for this. >:3 )
This is a goofy idea that I randomly made, so just have fun with it. I might make it myself once I’m done with my other fanfics.

Hope this isn’t too odd of a question but is there like, a minor theme of the villains being like evil versions of certain gods/allies? Like, the most obvious is the Six Eared Macaque, who impersonated Sun Wukong, but there’s also Red Boy, who’s compared to Nezha in appearance and also uses a spear and fire, Lady Earth Flow, who called herself the Half Guanyin, and I heard that Princess Iron Fan had an origin of being a goddess before becoming a demon, and I heard that the Queen Mother of (1)
Tumblr media
Well like I said before when it comes to the antagonists in Xiyouji... there can be many different types of interpretations that can be drawn from. But I don't think that there is a real 'evil versions' of deities going on from there.
Red Boy being a good example as he has a history in Buddhism before Xiyouji was made.
I think something that people forget or don't know is that Wu Cheng'en's version of Journey to the West, wasn't really the 'first' or rather is wasn't something that he created all from his own imagination. The story of Xuanzang's pilgrimage has been told many times at this point and there were many stray stories with different demons or challenges that were either for pure entertainment value or did have great allegorical meanings.
What gave Wu Cheng'en that edge that made 'his' version of the story was not only did he drawn from many of the most popular stories, interpretations, and took the most charming (or humane) aspects of the characters and was able to make a large, long decently cohesive story that people in either lower class or higher class can draw enjoyment from.
So that being said... taking EVERY allegorical possibility of each antagonist, with each demon having a tie to either Buddism, Daoism, or Chinese folklore, or even a mix of two or all three... is RESEARCH PAPER level kind of study and I am not qualified to answer in a tumble post ;_;
But that being I said I don't think Red Boy is just evil Nezha (who has his own lore and history) as when he turns into the Child of Wealth he becomes Shancai which has a rich history all on its own.
Tumblr media
Red Boy takes greater inspiration from the Buddhist history of this disciple than of Li Nezha.
Tumblr media
Lady Earth Flow another example only calls herself 'Half Gaunyin' because she stole precious Candles from vulture peak. There are a lot of demons in Xiyouji that show their power or clout rather by having a connection to Buddisht lore, like the Scorpion Queen claiming she was able to injure Tathāgata and that the Golden Wing Peng is his uncle because his mother the Peacock ate him and he escaped giving 'birth' to him and was promoted to his godmother hence the connection.
These connections are more about giving credibility to the antagonists' power and even giving more insight into perhaps where these stories or such are connected.
Princes Iron Fan being a Taoist Goddess is a thing but that happens moreso in the Yaun Dynasty in which is before Xiyouji was written and in zaju she is presented as a sister of Lishan Laomu (who funny is enough is ALSO the sister of Sun Xingzhe in Zaju Xiyou ji so that is interesting) but left heaven due to a dispute with the Queen Mother at a banquet. However, it looks like in Wu Cheng'en's Xiyouji I have seen her being described as a Rakshasa which is connected to Hindu lore. I do now know if the intended meaning was to erase the Taoist backstory she has but perhaps making this a lot like Red Boy in giving the character a new background for the sake of the narrative. Or perhaps it is to show how multiple different inspirations can be used to create a single character and that while it is not really a 'canon' it would have been realizing known who the character is at that point and would not cause much confusion.
Tumblr media
As for the Queen Mother being a demon, I personally do not think that the version seen in Wu Cheng'en would have that connection due to the fact that the image of the Queen Mother was greatly changed by that point. Her interpretation in the Zhou dynasty where they give her the title of a goddess of death and later she is influenced by Taoism and is given further elements such as immorality and longevity. But even in that interpretation, she is an immortal, not a demon, and perhaps the re-writings of her lore make it so that when he was more integrated with Taoism she was given a different backstory as well. I cannot say for certain as this is more of a case of a change of legends that she had ties showing of being connected to being a feline/tiger demon that was later changed within her own legend.
Tumblr media
However when it comes to a lot of antagonists in Xiyouji having heavenly backgrounds I think there is more discussion there, than trying to compare them to any other existing deities as the doppelganger trope isn't played that much.
There are about 4 fallen Celetials if we are not including Princess Iron Fan being Yellow Robed Demon, Golden Horned King, Silver Horned King, and Yellow Brows King and about 12 heavenly animals (I will not name them all) that have escaped heaven and each one gives their own varies of reasons from being personal gain or that they were ordered to just to be trails specifically for the pilgrims to overcome. Some wanted revenge, love, glory, or just for their own sake.
Personally, I think that having so many heavenly creatures fall from heaven to be demons was to show that both heaven and earth are not perfect and that even in the highest authority there are still cracks in the system that must be held accounted for. Bajie and Wujing being two big examples as they themselves were fallen celestial soldiers on earth as a punishment while other celestials saw it as a way of freedom and escaping their responsibilities. It makes an interesting argument of how the heaven's view of Yaoguai and their origin influence their judgment, Wukong being the only Yaogaui without a background tied to the heaven beyond being made of Yin and Yang but his fellow disciples once had stood there.
I think there is a lot to be said on how the treatment of Yaoguai changes when the antagonist is from a heavenly origin as they are rarely if never killed, rather being subdued and sent back to heaven for trial or just punishment. As much as Wukong does kill a lot of demons, he also sends a lot of them to court for their crimes which I do find to be an interesting take, especially with yaoguai that Wukong wishes to personally punish.
The relationship between heaven and yaoguai is something I think could really be delved into with how there almost seems to be double standards when it comes to how yaoguai are to be treated when they cultivate on their own verse if they eat humans to cultivate verse if 'cheat' by skipping their reincarnation cycle and going straight from animal to humanoid using heavenly objects. From there that almost distracts whether they are able to go back to their original forms to cultivate for their next life to be a human or if they are to be killed and try again in the next life.
But no matter what the case is, yaoguai is seen as both a punishment by the heavens but also seen as a chance for individuals to escape their current status and strive for their own goals, as selfish as they are.
Long story short.
It is that deep.

Hi! If you can, can you give me some context about the Abandoned Prince AU? I'm new to this account and I've seen this au flooding my recommendations.
Well, first of all: welcome to my account, I hope you have a good time and good health.
And second, of course I can!
My Au prince abandoned is very simple.
In this au, Bai He and MK are biological children of Wukong and Macaque.
But unfortunately, MK was abandoned at birth by Macaque, Wukong never knew that he had another child other than his daughter Bai He, Macaque hid the secret for decades.
MK and Bai He are like the opposite.
MK had a difficult childhood, full of abuse and violence until he met Jin and Yin.
In contrast, Bai He had a very good childhood with his parents.
MK occupies the role of Macaque of the canon and Bai He occupies the role of heroine.
MK is still a god's bread that charms anyone.
MK's team/family are Yin, Jin, spider gang, Spindrax and the bull demon family (also the scorpion queen, the local little god and the mayor).
From Bai He his team/family are Wukong, Macaque, Pigsy, Tang, Mei and Sandy (in the future I plan to put Nezha).
Red Son, Spindrax and MK are best friends (in my Au is canonical the Spicynoodles)
If you want to know more, I recommend you to read the story I did in Ao3, here I leave the link.
I hope you found it useful, Byeeee!

You was minding the island/monkeys in "SWK is MK's stone egg dad au"?
Tumblr media
Ask 1: Wukong would only trust someone he knew would be able to protect the island if he wasn't available. Originally his idea was for that to be Macaque but well... that didn't turn out so good.
Guanyin would try to kill him herself if she knew Wukong was trying to create a Stone Egg on purpose.
Princess Iron Fan is similarly discounted, cus for all her joy surrounding having a child, she knows it's stupid to try and make one when the eventual result is death of the parent. She'd tattle on SWK to Guanyin.
Erlang would remember to unbury Wukong, but him and the Plum Hill boys dont gots a good reputation with the island's monkeys or monkey demons in general. Also the dog might try and dig up Wukong before he can even start the Egg-making process.
That leaves the people he 1: Is good friends with and/or 2: Owes him a favor.
DBK and Nezha ultimately are the two entrusted with the knowledge of what Wukong's doing.
DBK worries because of the risks involved, but understands why Wukong is so adamant on becoming a parent. DBK was willing to bow to the bodhisattva if it meant his little firefly could be born safely.
Nezha is told a little different version of the story since Wukong still sees him as a kid who will panic. Wukong just tells him that he's "Trying out a new mediatation technique", and to check in on him in a few centuries. Nezha is suspicious, but assumes Wukong is planning to isolate himself for the sake of the Rings of Samadhi. Can't tell anyone where his Ring is if he's entombed after all. Nezha makes sure to check in on the island every other year or so just out of duty, but also because he's a little attached to the island's monkeys.
The Pilgrims aren't told of what SWK's gonna do in case they try to stop him. But Wukong grants them and their reincarnations/decendants special access to the island in case his original plan fails. He knows if something on the outside went *really wrong*, they'd be able to eventually find him.
Which leads to...
Tumblr media
I was thinking perhaps DBK was a good candiate to protect the island + wake Wukong.
Until something happened in their lives (a shared tragedy), that caused DBK to go nuts trying to stop Wukong from doing something that could have taken his little sworn brother away from him forever.
The death of a fellow sworn brother/Wukong's own best friend and mate; Macaque.
Wukong and DBK had agreed to only reveal the news to Macaque when Wukong's body had already started the process. Far along enough that even if Macaque dragged SWK up out of the ground in anger; a Stone Egg would still continue developing with the parent "awake".
Macaque died not knowing what Wukong had planned.
And DBK lost it.
He couldn't bare to lose his last Sworn Brother on top of losing his brother-in-law. It made no sense for Wukong to create the Stone Egg if his own family would never be able to greet it!
Wukong is forced to seal DBK away once the Bull began deliberately causing Havoc to draw him out of his cave. Enough trouble that there was talk in Heaven of feeding the Bull to the Furnace.
Wukong hates to admit it. He too didn't want to lose his brother.
So he's forced to seal DBK in stasis in the Underworld for the amount of time SWK planned to stay buried.
500 years would be enough for Wukong's body to produce a full-term egg without needing to leech life energy/dao from another source. So hopefully by the time he's ready to birth, Nezha will atleast be able to wake him up. And once his Egg and baby arrives, he will be able to release his sworn brother without the risk of getting stomped on in anger. His child would be old enough to protect themselves, and his in-laws no longer mad at him. Win win!
Unless something say... a curious, clumsy reincarnation of his former master stumbled upon his burial spot inside Water-Curtain Cave and dug him up thinking he was a pot and woke him up prematurely, forcing Wukong to carry the Egg to term for about a year while he spirtually drained others. But that defintely wont happen!
Right?

An investigation of color aesthetics and character design in the film Nezha: Birth of the Demon Child (2019)
Introduction to Art Background This movie is adapted from the prototype of Nezha in Chinese mythology and tells the wonderful story of Little Nezha's adventure. Nezha's character design is very playful, drawing on the fairy tale style of Disney animation, which further attracts the attention of the audience. The most important scene design in this movie is mainly the design of the Heavenly Palace and the birthplace of Nezha, Chentangguan. The design of Chentangguan is full of human fireworks, and the location of Chentangguan is probably in Tianjin, China. Therefore, these buildings absorb the style of many traditional Tianjin buildings, such as many Tianjin delicacies and handicrafts appearing in the market. (Zhang and Li, 2020) Secondly, the main scene also includes the Heavenly Court. The artistic design of the Heavenly Court scene is mainly composed of clouds and mountains. The biggest feature of the Heavenly Court scene in this film is its emptiness, which effectively highlights the main characters and guides the audience's visual focus to character design.
Tumblr media
scerenshot from Nezha: Birth of the Demon Child (2019)
2. Color contrast and different character shaping The color of the Heavenly Palace draws on the characteristics of the Chinese ink painting "Blue and Green Landscape" from the Song Dynasty. The color scheme of the Heavenly Palace and Lotus Fairyland is mainly green and blue. This color scheme, combined with smoke effects made with Houdini, can better reflect the Chinese mythological Heavenly Palace atmosphere. The most distinctive feature of this movie is the contrast between two different colors, which respectively shape the two main characters of the movie:
(1) Nezha: Red and Brown The designer designed the overall clothing for Nezha's character in red and brown to reflect his personality. Red represents passion and also reflects Nezha's playful and easily angered personality traits. In addition, in order to highlight Nezha's childlike characteristics, the designer designed a red vest for Nezha. This vest symbolizes children in traditional Chinese culture. It is worth noting that there is also an embroidery design of a lotus flower on Nezha's red vest, which symbolizes Nezha's holy soul. In addition, the designer's design of Ne Zha's image breaks the shackles of traditional impressions. Ne Zha is a serious deity in traditional Chinese mythology, but in this film, Ne Zha becomes very cute and playful, and his exaggerated expression caters to the public's aesthetic. In this process, it is necessary for the creator or team to process the objective reality to a limited extent according to their own understanding This kind of shooting can follow cancer rules or be an attitude (Zheng, 2019). So the innovative design of Nezha's image by the creator also attracted the audience, allowing them to understand the character of Nezha from different perspectives.

(2) Ao Bing: Blue and Cool Tones At the beginning, the image of Ao Bing was just because he shoulders the responsibility of guarding the people of Chentangguan and also the responsibility of saving the dragon tribe. In the film, Ao Bing's clothing and hair are designed in blue because blue is a symbol of kindness, and blue embodies his infinite desire for freedom in his body. But in the later part of the film, when his identity was exposed, he chose to sacrifice the people of Chujinguan to protect his own safety (Qin, 2021). So in the latter half of the film, Ao Bing's blue also symbolizes a depressed and repressed state of mind. In addition, designers are also skilled at using contrasting colors to create corresponding images. The most exciting part of the film is the battle between Ao Bing and Nezha. Ao Bing's use of blue water magic and Nezha's use of red flame magic form a strong contrast, giving the audience a particularly good visual experience.
In short, the designer of this movie is adept at using strong color contrast to shape scenes and character images, whether it is a scene with a green landscape painting style, or the character images of Nezha and Ao Bing using red and yellow to reflect opposition, all of which reflect the designer's superb level
