Michael Mann will forever be one of my favorite film directors of all time for his ability to seamlessly mix high octane, realistic action set-pieces with emotional vulnerability and sincerity. Think Michael Bay meets Terrence Malick.

let me be perfectly clear i do consider heat a romance & i do consider it a tragic love story. an unstable, toxic, strange love story but a love story nonetheless. those two idiots were soulmates driven apart by their separate career paths with grew to define them leaving them unable to reconcile that love, which drove them both to mutual obsession & indeed to destruction. do you not think theres something beautifully romantic & heartbreakingly awful about having to kill the one person in the world who understands you. theyre in love & so fucked up about it. shakespeare wishes.
