one funny thing about imagining my OCs in Yu-Gi-Oh is that I can have an AU for my AU because of how ARC-V works...so somewhere out there in a parallel universe is a Lyla Brangwyn out here who’s a vigilante from the Xyz Dimension, clad in sports gear as a form of improvised armor

she’d much rather break people’s ribs with her baseball bat than duel them, but if she must play a card game, it will doubtlessly be alongside an underdog ace monster of her own, “Ultimate Baseball Kid”

this Lyla is the daughter of a single dad working at a steel mill, much like the Standard Dimension’s Lyla...only Xyz!Lyla’s dad dies in a boiler explosion

she barely has time to process her grief or, like, where she’s gonna go from here before the Fusion Dimension begins their invasion of the Xyz Dimension--so not only is she alone and adrift in sadness, but everyone’s telling her there’s more important things to worry about, and they have to get steel mill production up and running ASAP (and some are pushing to move so quickly that they can’t even do any, like, safety work to ensure there isn’t another explosion), and can’t you just forget about your dad already?

of course she fucking can’t!! so instead, Lyla becomes an enemy of just about everyone! of course she won’t bend the knee to the oppressive armies of the Fusion Dimension, but she’s also angry at the forces of her home dimension as they go to such lengths to fight back! and she’s angry at the ragtag Resistance for, uh, the sense of self-preservation that halts them from striking at high-profile targets! (this Lyla calls it “cowardice” because she gets to be a little fucked up, as a treat!)

Lyla drops out of school and takes to the streets with few possessions to lash out at everyone--again, usually physically, but if she’s dragged into a duel, she puts all her hopes on a card she found among her dad’s old things--”if I can’t win with Ultimate Baseball Kid, I would rather lose!”

she doesn’t even Xyz Summon, which is kinda whack for someone from the Xyz Dimension--instead, she leans on the sheer potential power of Ultimate Baseball Kid, usually by summoning multiple Solar Flare Dragons (they in turn can prevent themselves from being attacked with their own effect, leaving opponents staring down the bat of a powered-up UBK as the only valid target...and if UBK fails, Lyla begins to burn everything via the dragons’ Effect Damage and other sources such as Burning Land, probably while screaming about how you’re the one who wanted this stupid duel and why are you so horrified by my ferocity when you’re the one who pushed me to this point? and I don’t want any of this! I never did!)

if Xyz!Lyla cannot live in peace, she would rather die...and if humanity cannot live together in harmony, she’d rather they achieve mutual destruction! but hey, instead of sealing people inside cards in some fucked-up magic ritual, she’s just hospitalizing them, and her heart is still ultimately in the right place--maybe if she can make some friends or at least find a point in her life where she can take a break and process her unbearable sadness at just how much has gone to shit around her all at once, she can maybe be a little less feral someday, and come to use another card the Standard Dimension Lyla uses a lot, United We Stand

I'm having ygo thoughts again and all I can say is that I think people in the DM universe should be incomprehensibly grateful Yugi got the Millennium Puzzle and not Ryou because can you imagine how codependent those two would be? Ryou, local ghost lover permanently haunted (no pun intended) by the fear of being lonely forever, paired up with Yami Yugi (Yami Ryou?), local ghost who is SO determined to make sure all his friends are happy and suffers from a crippling need to be useful and used? Together? Shadi would have to separate them with a crowbar for the Ceremonial Duel and 5 seconds afterward there would be a 50% chance one or both of them would kill him with the same crowbar for making the other sad. They'd be insufferable. Inseparable. Mostly just insane though.

you know, the one about a bunch of kids playing a game together that ends up having apocalyptic consequences? they all have crazy, kinda geometric hair? aliens show up out of nowhere and end up being instrumental to helping the kids save the world?

I saw @koutone vampire au and suddenly I found myself drawing on my tablet. It's just a little doodle but I love this AU so much I had to draw it.

Yu-Gi-Oh AU chapter where both Lyla and Iphigenia get their decks stolen by some fellow students of Duel Academy looking to cause trouble

Lyla and Iffie go after one another's decks instead of their own, and this culminates in a scene where Lyla has to duel using Iffie's deck (maybe it's a wager to get Iffie's deck back, or maybe it's something unrelated that comes up after)

through this exercise, Lyla comes to understand how her friend's deck is similar to hers (in that it swarms the field with individually weak monsters) and how it's different (in that it then uses them for the summon of Dystopia the Despondent)

and in true YGO fashion, she comes to understand more about Iffie herself through this exercise, and Lyla has a deep and thoughtful moment about the infinite similarities and differences between herself and Iffie

meanwhile, Iffie simply shoved the kid who stole Lyla's deck and took it back that way, and she's been waiting idly for most of the chapter

I don't think I ever explained exactly what the this AU entails.

This AU is a darker retelling of the original series that explores themes of abuse and trauma. Yugi is a small DID system who also suffers from other disorder comorbidities. Atem is the main protector of their system and looks after the host very fondly.

I got inspired by S0 darker tone and my own personal experiences to make this AU.
