grocery trips with Carmen are so special to me. u don't understand.

When he lived alone he rarely bothered to make dignified trips—this much you knew, because the first time you were over his old apartment you had to ask if he ate anything in his time off. All he had was a sad loaf of bread, some condiments, chips, and a few cans of soda. But now that you’re living together, in a new place with a new fridge and a new kitchen, he takes it very seriously.

He keeps a handwritten list so he doesn’t forget anything, he has a steadfast route he follows every time, and he leads the way while you push the cart and trail behind. Definitely gets caught in his own world looking at produce, but keeps a hand tethered to the end of the cart just to make sure you’re still there. Mumbles to himself about how the fuckers keep hiking up the prices for stuff that’s in season, and if you ask him what he said, he’ll just tell you, “It’s nothin’, baby” and go right back to talking to himself with a furrowed brow.

He’s exceedingly particular about how he arranges the cart, stares at it for a few seconds when he adds a few things just to make sure everything computes. But every time, he looks back at you with a half smile before moving a few steps closer and pressing a kiss to your forehead, or your cheek, or your temple, as his hand rubs affectionately on your shoulder. He can’t get enough of the way you trail behind him, arms leaning against the cart’s handle as you chat about your plans for the week, or the hot goss at work, or anything else that piques your interest. He just wants to listen to what’s on your mind while he ticks off products on his list.

A bittt of a control freak, too. Not in the sense that he won’t let you do anything or pick up a snack you want, just that he has to work it into his route first. Doesn’t like it when you wander off to grab something right away and he honestly gets insecure about it, starts thinking he’s boring you or taking too long or that he’s being too hard on you.

“It took me ten seconds, Carm, it was just in the next aisle.”

“No, no, I know that, I just, um…” He nods his head persistently, hands on his hips and eyes downcast—that classic look he gets when he’s thinking too hard about something. “Y’know, if—you don’t have to come, if you don’t want to…y’know I can—” Stumbling for the way to word the thoughts he can’t fully wrap his head around himself. "If you don't like it—"

“Hey—” You wait for him to meet your eyes, and when he does, you soften. Stepping close to him, you pry one of his hands away and instead tangle it with yours. “C'mon, I love doing this with you, y’know?”

He lets out a careful breath, and his chest relaxes at your tenderness.

“I want to be here, just following you around. I just wanna spend time with you, okay Bear?”

He pauses, has to swallow what you say before he can respond. “Yeah,” he nods, “Okay.”

“Good.”

When you press a kiss to his cheek, he gives one right back to you, keeps it sweet and brief as a soft smile curls at the corners of his mouth, chest warm and calm before getting back to business.

Does not, under any circumstances, let you pay. Won't let you open your purse. Doesn’t want you lifting even a finger to line up items on the conveyor belt. No, not that bag of chips you snagged, either. If you start helping he’ll nudge you away from the cart and take your spot, or just take whatever you’re holding out of your hands while shooting you a look.

“I got it, baby.”

“But I wanna help.”

“Uh-uh, I’m takin’ care of it—”

“I can lift a bag of apples—”

He raises his brows again and cocks his head to the side, making you freeze. “Just lemme do it for us, aight?”

You huff but concede anyway. “Fine.”

Yet another kiss to your temple, and he’s pulling out his wallet to grab his card. “Thank you, baby.”

After that it’s borderline criminal for you to even think about helping. He pushes the cart to the car, loads the bags in the trunk, drives home, carries the groceries up to the apartment, stocks everything where it belongs. Kisses you sporadically along the way, maybe lets himself get distracted when you pull him back for more. Just maybe.

He takes care of it—all of it—for you, because you being with him makes him more content than he’s ever been, and ever thought he could be. He's so in awe of you that nothing feels like quite enough to express it.

🧡You and Blithe go shopping for Halloween decorations, having some fun along the way together!🧡

"Come on Alby! Let's go!" You Called, putting on a pout as your boyfriend came downstairs, dressed in red flannel and a denim jacket with fluff inside to keep him warm from the chilly Fall weather.

"Alright alright honey, hold your horses" Chuckled Blithe as he made his way downstairs to you. You were excited to go decoration shopping, always. You decorated for each holiday and this year was no different.

"I'm sorry sweetie, but I'm just so excited to see the latest and newest stock of Halloween decor! I totally wanna look for those cutesy spider webs for the curtains!" You Said joyfully as you bounced on the spot. Blithe chuckled and leaned forward to press a kiss to your forehead.

"I know cutie pie. I'm excited too. You know I love decor shopping with you" Said Blithe softly. And it was the truth. Ever since you two first moved in together, you helped with the house's decor. Blithe loved how you meticulous picked out certain colours or patterns for each room, your parents always said you had an eye for such things.

"Well, let's hit the road!" Declared Blithe and you squealed as you headed to the car, Blithe in tow with car keys jingling.

First stop was Spirit Halloween. You and Blithe walked in and were blown away by the many wonderful and spooky items on sale, from decorations to costumes. It was a Halloween wonderland!

"Oh my god, Alby look!" You nearly squealed as you showed off a Nightmare Before Christmas Sally costume. Blithe smiled at the costume.

"If I buy this, will you dress up as Jack with me this year?" You Asked shyly. Oh, Blithe's heart melted at that.

"Of course cutie pie, I'll be your Jack Skelly this year, Sally" Replied Blithe smiling warmly as he picked out the costume and he loved the smile you gave him. Costumes in the shopping basket, Blithe and you walked down the many aisles, marvelling at and scouting for decorations.

You two eventually walked out with an abundance of Halloween themed decorations. Loading them up in the car, you guys drove to look for some small decorations, many of the large decorations Spirit Halloween had. You guys stopped at Walmart for the bit and of course you saw the Halloween Squishmallows were in.

"Alby the Halloween Squishmallows are in!" You Grinned. Both of you made a beeline for the aisle.

"Hope they still have the Fall ones in. I really wanna find Connor The Cow in the Flannel shirt" Hoped Blithe.

"Oh I'm sure they still have the Fall ones. Fall and Halloween go hand in hand" You Assured him.

"I hope so, last year I missed out on them. I really wanted Connor, he looks so cosy like a lil' lumberjack" Recalled Blithe.

As you both reached the aisle your heart melted upon seeing Blithe find a Fall Squad version of Connor The Cow Squishmallow and just give the plushie a big hug. That sight alone filled you with serotonin.

"Oh thank goodness! I've found him!" Exclaimed Blithe, cuddling the red flannel wearing Squish in his arms as you walked over to your side as you smiled at him.

"I'm glad you found him!" You Cheered happily. Blithe found comfort in the plushies since his retirement from service due to an injury he sustained. The plushies helped when he had nightmares and when his PTSD kicked up, just holding his favourite one or snuggling up in a pile of them with you was the best calming feeling to him and he'd just relax instantly.

It was the best thing he had at the moment as you two were currently looking into getting Blithe equipped with a emotional support animal, mainly a dog. It's been a long wait and it was frustrating. So you were happy to see Blithe have comfort even if it was from a plushie while you two waited.

"There's so many Halloween Squishmallows and Fall Squad Squishmallows!" You Remarked, looking at the vast amount of spooky and autumnal Squish. Blithe looked at them, eyes wide as he scanned for one to take home.

"We don't have that one do we?" Asked Blithe pointing to Autumn The Black Cat. You shook your head and Blithe reached over, plucking her from the pile. You reached over and pulled Wade The Werewolf Squishmallow from the pile too and picked up a Fall Squad version of Malcom The Mushroom Squishmallow.

Squishmallows collected, you both drove to the next store. Along the way you both stopped for some lunch at a café.

"There's a shop selling decorations across the street, wanna take a look?" Asked Blithe with a mouthful of food making you giggle and nod.

"Sure sweetie!" You Bubbled. Walking across the street, you enter the store and began browsing the aisle. You bent to get a closer look at the decorations at the bottom shelf and when you glanced up you were face to face with a large black spider!

You let out a scream and fell backwards onto your butt, causing Blithe to laugh.

"The Hell?!" You Gasped and looked up to see Blithe hunched over, laughing as he held the now obvious fake spider in his hand like a yo-yo, dangling about.

"Oh your face!" Laughed Blithe. You started to laugh along with him, he got you good with that prank. He helped you up as you both laughed.

"Oh I'll get you back for that one" You Giggled and you both shared a laugh as you continued to browse the aisle together, all while you planned your prank on your boyfriend.

After your shopping trip into town, you drove home to start unpacking and decorating. Walking inside, you both began the decorating process.

"I'm so glad Spirit Halloween had the cobwebs for the curtains" You Remarked as you admired the spooky curtain decor.

"I love the little spooky lanterns they had, I just had to buy them. They look so cool" Commented Blithe as he began placing said lanterns about the house.

It was then as his back was turned, you decided to prank him. You crept as quietly as you could away to the other room across from the living room and found a good corner to hide in. You covered yourself up in the large pumpkin blanket you had since your Grandmother first gave it to you and waited.

"I think I picked out some good spots for the lan...." Blithe stopped mid sentence as he saw you were not in the room. And the whole house had gone eerily silent.

"Honey?" Called Blithe looking around the room. You tried to suppress your giggles under the blanket as you heard his footsteps approach into the room you were hiding in.

"Honey, where are you?" Called Blithe. You snickered a little and you froze. Did he hear you? Blithe looked around the room and saw the large blanket.

"What's that doing there?" Thought Blithe as he walked over to pick up the blanket.

"BOO!" You Cried and Blithe gave a yell, falling backwards on to his butt.

You burst out laughing as Blithe's face flushed pink.

"Wha..?" Stammered Blithe in shock.

"Got you!" You Giggled.

Blithe then began snickering. Damn, you got him good this time. Without warning, he pounced and wrapped you up in his arms, blanket wrapped up around you both.

"This year, I'm really gonna up my tricking game so you better watch out missy!" Chuckled Blithe.

"Oh yeah? Well challenge accepted mister!" You Retorted with a giggle.

You both shared a good laugh as you guys just only realised you were all tangled up in the blanket and both of you falling all over the place just to get free was just comical.

Yeah, it was going to be a great and fun Halloween this year.

I’m not 100% sure where my little guys originally came from but odds are good it was a feeder tank. The LFS if I’m being optimistic but probably like Petsmart. I rescued them from a bowl after about a week and a half dying in the lobby of my apartment building, they were definitely pretty sorry looking then :/

For the last year and a half or so the three survivors lived in this 50 g

Which technically could have sustained them for most of their lives (I think even by bare minimum standards a 65 would probably be necessary eventually for three fish), but it has weird dimensions (15x36x20″) and honestly?? They were just outgrowing it. They’re over 6 inches now at just a little over two years old. But I’ll talk about their care in here anyway because that’s where they’ve done most of their growing and living the majority of their life.

LOTS of filtration. I've had two Aquaclear 70s on this tank the whole time it’s been up, and for the last 4 months or so, a SunSun HW-304B canister as well. The AC’s are 300 gph (gallons per hour) each, and the SunSun is hOLY SHIT 525 gph oh my god how have I not noticed that.

(Weird story with that one??? I thought I ordered the 265 gph model, found I’d accidentally ordered the 370 gph model, and when the box arrived they had sent me this one which is oh my gooooodddddd 525 wat)

So I had around 600 (and then 1100 whooopps that’s maybe a little too much) total turnover per hour, or about 12x the volume of the tank. With goldfish I always recommend at least 10x, minimum. It really makes such a difference. Even if your water tests come up clear on water change day, the quicker you’re getting the ammonia and nitrite processed out of the water, the less stress the fish’s systems are under in the long run.

They're not expensive either! The Aquaclears are about $45 each online, and the canister is similar. Although sunsun being an Asian company their prices fluctuate a bit.

I have a shit ton of pothos on my tank too, for nitrate munching purposes since my water comes out of the tap already at 10-20 ppm. I.... think it’s going to eat me someday o_O this is it with like four feet of trimming at least.

And even with all that, water changes! I’ll admit I wasn’t always solid on my w/c schedule, my health is iffy at best and running on a 10 day schedule happened fairly often, although I DO NOT recommend that. To make up for it, I almost always do 60-90% changes. Contrary to popular belief, large water changes are not harmful to your fish or your cycle as long as you match the pH and temperature of the fresh water going in. I refill in chunks over the course of an hour or so to avoid shocking them, they pout during the process but as soon as I restart the filters they’re back to normal.

I recently, and I mean recently, as in last week, upgraded to a FRICKIN’ ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY GALLON TANK??? OMFUCKINGFUCK LOOK

Holy shit I’ve been fighting with the manufacturers over this thing for wEEKS IT’S FINALLY HERE. 72″x24″x20″ which is such a good shape for goldfish, much better than the standard 150 which is taller and thinner. Ahhh they’re so happy they just go nyoooooom nyooom from one end to the other, and I can add more friends!! Right now I have Remy, Lilac, Ludi, and little Ametrine in there. Plus Sumi in quarantine, but she’s really sick all of a sudden which is why this post took longer than I meant it too, sorry :( I don’t know what happened she just dropsied out of nowhere the other night. She was due to join the others in a week or two, but if she pulls through she’s getting an extended QT now to be sure she’s really healthy

And a skinny lil blind dude I picked up not long ago who may or may not live by himself depending on if I think he can hold his own with the others or not? He’s a spunky cutie but Very Tiny.

Anyway the tank is kind of a mess cause I just chucked every piece of spare decor I have in there to give them something to do, but I have some nice driftwood and just bought a ton of anubias and I’m gonna try actual planted this time!!!

I use the Omega One and Thera A as daily staples, rotated with smatterings of the other pellets, as well as Repashy Soilent Green and some of my own homemade gel foods. I really wanna try Northfin pellets too, or AAP Paradigm when I get around to it. I do veggies a few times a week, I’ll buy a bunch of stuff fresh and then blanch and freeze it in baggies to feed over the next couple months. Zucchini, peas, bok choy, cauliflower, kale, spinach, collard greens, broccoli, watercress, etc etc. I usually have four or five at any given time. The frozen proteins I do once every week or two. I’m super allergic to bloodworms so those are a special treat I only feed with gloves :P but they get mysis or brine shrimp usually.

It looks intimidating, but it’s not that difficult. I acquired this stuff bit by bit over the course of a year so you don’t have to go spend a ton of money at once. If I ever just happen to see something that looks fairly good quality for an okay price I’ll grab a small container to try out. Some I end up liking, some I don’t, but even the mediocre stuff I sometimes use as a junk treat, or as snail food. Like I wouldn’t use any of the foods here besides the Repashy, Omega One, Northfin, or NLS as staples. The Aqueon is okay-ish if you have no other option, but the Cobalt is too high in protein for daily feeding, and Hikari has gone so downhill in the last few years. I honestly wouldn’t even buy it, I just feel obligated to use up the bag I already have. Pick maybe two of those staple foods to keep on hand, rotate in veggies a few times a week, some frozen protein here and there and you’re set, don’t absolutely need anything else. Of course more is always better, if you can.

And yes, sigh, dumb as bricks aren’t they? Picky too sometimes. Try a bunch of different vegetables, leafy greens are a good place to start, or zucchini. Boil them soft (you can just chuck it in a glass of conditioned water in the microwave for 2-5 minutes) and cut it into little bite sized pieces. If they don’t go for it right away, keep trying for a couple of days in a row. Eventually they’ll get hungry and warm up to it. Keep your plec occupied with something of his own to eat and feed the goldies at the other end of the tank to try and get them all a bit of something green to eat.

Veggies high in carotenes are really good for enhancing color. So besides your obvious ones like carrot and sweet potato, that’s also going to be your dark leafy greens! If you can get your lil guys onto stuff like collard, spinach, chard, etc, that’ll definitely make a difference in their coloration :)

Gel foods are also a really good option for picky eaters. I’ve never heard of a goldfish that doesn’t like gel, seriously, they adore that shit. You can get premade mixes like Repashy, which you just mix up with some hot water and set in the fridge or freezer. Or you can make your own! Here’s some recipe ideas, or just google “goldfish gel food,” you can scale them waaaaay down if you want. I make pretty small batches that last a long time. And feel free to swap out ingredients too and experiment, or make up your own completely. Just stick to lean, low mercury seafood, and produce without too much sugar and you can mix and match as you please. The one in my freezer right now is mostly watercress and bok choy, a couple spoonfuls of NLS, some cloves of fresh garlic, spirulina, a few baby carrots, a bunch of gross string algae I scooped out of the snail tank, and a dash of paprika. The kids adore it.

Uhhhh let’s see, anything else? I treat with prazi once a year or so, preventative maintenance, like deworming your dog. Besides that I keep medicating to a minimum unless it’s really dire. Minor scrapes and bumps I leave be. Have pretty hard high pH water, usually around 8-8.2. No heater or chiller but the water temp stays low-mid 70s most of the time

I dunno, just plenty of love and attention! I redecorate their tank and make them little toys (try some sturdy nontoxic plastic beads threaded on fishing line, especially if you can find somewhere to wedge food in, enjoy the ensuing adorable) talk to them, draw on the glass...

I love them!!! So much!!!! I owe them my life many times over, that’s not an exaggeration at all. Seeing them in their new tank has really reminded me of how far they’ve come and how much they mean to me. I’m not always a perfect owner and there are times I fall down on their care, but they’re still fat and happy and I’m always trying to do better

Fishing

On average, I fall in love at least 10 times a day. One might assume that falling in love that often is absurd. It is. One might also assume it would be exhausting. Most def. In reality, the falling part isn’t all that tiring, it’s quite the opposite. Every time a stranger smiles at me, I become instantly flush, giddy, and bug-eyed with enthusiasm! Then my enthusiasm is typically met with broken eye-contact and regret from the recipient.

Rejection is exhausting.

I once had an English teacher tell me that I should feel empowered by rejection! Like, what? He said that, “rejection is a conclusion, which is something we so rarely get in this life. Feel empowered because you took a chance, you put yourself out there and got an answer. It might not have been the answer you were hoping for but you got one, and that’s something!”

That’s something.

I suppose he’s kind of right. We so often get nothing at all, especially in the modern dating world. From ghosting, to thinly veiled “u up?” texts, we’re all swimming in an endless sea of weird emotional ambiguity. The deepest and darkest of these waters lie in online dating. I mean, Tinder alone has given me nightmares. But really. I’ve seen more dead animals in the last couple months, than I ever anticipated seeing in my entire life! I saw one man who had a normal enough opening photo, just him like standing in a field. Then his next photo was him in a nice suit, followed up by his final photo which was him taking a selfie holding a bunch of knives in front of his face! That’s obviously a murderer, right?

Nightmares.

Okay, I am aware that Tinder is not the most respectable place to go looking for love. I should have expected frightening creatures from the deep to appear with any given swipe, but love exists even in the darkest abyss. How rude is that? I know several fantastic people who have found love on Tinder. That fact is what enticed me to try it, but these people are the exceptions to the rule. The rule being that most people are the worst. Knowing this, I still ventured into other online dating pools, and unsurprisingly have exclusively found variations on the theme of gross. Next up was Bumble, which is very progressive in that women have to start the conversation! Finally, someone had the wild idea that women have a power of will!

Do you want to know my opening line? Yeah you do, it’s: “What’s your jam? Mine is space.”

Do you get it? I think it’s pretty good. In the rare case you don’t, I really love Space Jam. In the even rarer case you don’t know what Space Jam is, it’s a beautiful film starring basketball legend Michael Jordan, and the Looney Tunes. They join forces to defeat a group of evil aliens in a wacky basketball game, and Bill Murray is there too. So, yeah, it’s a strong opening line. It tells you what my priorities are in life, which are obviously comedy and great artistic works. It also sets up the opportunity for a riveting discussion. Most of the time I didn’t get a reply back. When I did, the answer was almost always: strawberry.

Finally, I waded into the waters of OkCupid. I was told this is where you went if you were serious about dating. Right off the bat, I was intimidated. You have to write essays and answer a ton of questions about yourself, and what you think your ideal partner would be like. Doing all that helped me figure out that my ideal partner would most likely not be using a dating site. They would be alone in their home watching Wes Anderson films, and journaling with their dog. Really, my ideal partner is Elijah Wood. Once I figured that out I decided to just throw caution to the wind, and put it all out there. I came up with a new goal. I was going to try and get catfished so I could be on that MTV show. I thought it was a pretty solid idea, and right away I met the perfect guy! After only a few hours with my interest parameters set to anywhere, and down for anything, a grade A cutie slid into my messages. His name was Kyle. He was a 23 years old currently living in L.A., but was originally from New Zealand. Then, to top it all off, he worked for SpaceX. Yeah, like that SpaceX! Jackpot, right? He even had an interesting opening line! Well, it was more like a little paragraph. His first message to me was,

“I could comment on your looks, because I find you absolutely beautiful, but that’s too easy. I’d rather comment on the fact that you seem like a really interesting person. You’ve lived a storied life, haven’t you?”

I was hooked. Day 1 we sent over a hundred messages back and forth before we finally upgraded to phone conversation on Day 2. His accent alone made me forget how entirely impractical a relationship would be. To top it all off, he was funny. Not nearly as funny as me, but still, pretty funny! On Day 3 we decided to have a Skype date, which was surprising at first, but I’ve seen every episode of Catfish and have learned that someone can look like their picture and still lie about everything else. So I remained cautious and prepared for disappointment. When that light blue screen faded into the man I’d been staring at in pictures for days, my brain fully tapped out. Basic sentence structure was long gone. At first I just giggled a lot and made vaguely affirming noises in response to his questions about which movie we should watch. I finally got it together enough to suggest we watch The Incredible Jessica James. I thought it was a good choice because it’s about a dope queen who dates a cute man with a fun accent, and that seemed too relevant to pass up.

We had a great time, and made plans to do it again the next day. I even found out that he really did work for SpaceX, his picture and bio were on their website. He was exactly who he said he was. Now, this is the part of the story when reality finally sets in. My brain got around to letting my heart know that this relationship wasn’t sustainable. On Day 4 he offered to fly across the country to hangout for the weekend.

That hella freaked me out.

In my opinion, I think I was justified in my reaction, but he didn’t feel the same way. His reaction was very similar to other guys I’ve said no to. He got mean. He brought up my weight, and said that I should feel grateful that he would even be interested in me. I hope you find that shocking, and aren’t like me, who is used to that experience. Though I may be used to it, I know it’s some straight bullshit. I’m a dope ass queen he was lucky to know, and now I’ve learned some things too.

I cast my net too wide, got tangled, and now I’m here.

Still very much alone.

Don’t get me wrong, I know that everyone will not find me to be a catch and a half. I’m a confident, loud, funny fat girl, and that can cause some people to quake in there lil’ fishing boots. I suppose it’s for the best, really. If I was admired as much as I admire, my heart would implode. At least with rejection, you bounce back, catch another smile, and do it all again. It’s not all that hard when you know you’ve got, at minimum, another 9 opportunities today.

Hey cutie, no need to be nervous :)

How exciting for you! Any fan of the parks is a pal of mine.

Honestly, budgeting is totally unique for each person. It will depend on where you’re staying, what season you go in, what kind of pass you buy (I recommend getting the annual pass, it’s only $80 and will give you entry to all the parks in the states), and I believe all national parks in Canada are free to visit this year so head up that way too if you can! Accommodation will vary greatly, so maybe look into getting yourself some cheap camping gear, or seeing if you can set up a bed in your car (if you feel safe that way). Splitting costs with a friend will greatly reduce your fees (things like petrol, accommodation etc that you’d be paying for anyway). I think you could easily eat on $50 or less per week if you budget well and stick to staples like oats, rice, pasta, beans, lentils, etc and aren’t eating out too often. Invest in things like Clif bars and trail mix to sustain you on hikes or day trips, as well as a refillable water bottle.

I can’t really give you any real figures because it depends on so many different factors, but all I can say with travel is that it is what you make it. Travelling is my #1 passion in life and I want to do it as much as possible, so I always try to do it on a shoestring budget. I take overnight/redeye flights to save money on accommodation, will spend up to ten hours in an airport if it means a greatly reduced fare, don’t spend my money on tourist attractions or fancy restaurants, am happy to stay in inexpensive hostels/hotels/airbnbs even if they aren’t as nice as other ones. Making friends that you can visit is also awesome, as they can visit you too and then you both get to save money and have a stable home base to travel from.

The best thing about road trips and seeing national parks is that you can make an amazing trip by entertaining yourself for free. Walks, hikes, scenic tours, drives, sunsets, starry nights and beautiful sights and so on are free of charge - so make the most of the great outdoors and save your pennies for when you really need it.

cause I just had a long discussion about it and I’ve come to many conclusions

HAMILTON CHARACTER HOGWARTS HOUSES

if your opinions differ hmu i’m looking for healthy discourse

This began as a buzzfeed quiz in which one could sort the Hamilton characters into Hogwarts houses and I was BAFFLED at some of the choices that the internet had collectively made for these people. Here I present to you my official dissertation on the true houses of these historical figures.

It should be noted that no person or character is two dimensional and thus each possesses traits from each house. There are a plethora of factors to take into consideration before making a sorting decision.

Hercules Mulligan: Gryffindor

we’ll start off with someone rather non-contentious. Our pal Herc has mad nerve (”when you knock me down I get the fuck back up again”) and is without a doubt daring and brave. The dude was a spy in the british army???? Amazing

Marquis de Lafayette: Hufflepuff

Alrighty please consider the defining traits of a hufflepuff in regards to our favourite fighting frenchman:

You might belong in Hufflepuff Where they are just and loyal, Those patient Hufflepuffs are true, And unafraid of toil;

Laf literally packed up one day and bid farewell to his wife in France to go fight in another country’s war because he cared about it. His loyalty is very steadfast despite being to two distinct nations. Though some might argue this negates the argument of his loyalty because his attentions are so divided, I think his unwavering support of both just doubles his capacity for loyalty. He participated in what he felt was right because he felt it was right. Whatever the cost he chose to take part in both conflicts. YES he’s also brave, (the buzzfeed poll indicates that 37% of you think he’s a gryffindor which is FAIR) but I think that though he exhibits the traits of a gryffindor, his hufflepuff characteristics are stronger. (Also, apparently, 36% of you think he’s a ravenclaw??? sources pls i don’t see it) Lafayette is defined by justice, loyalty, and yes bravery- he is unquestionably “unafraid of toil.” HUFFLEPUFF

John Laurens: Gryffindor

K I have a lot of problems with the poll on Laurens. 50% of those polled think that Laurens is a hufflepuff and I think that this goes along with the stereotyping of hufflepuffs as delicate cinnamon rolls. We all love John, we know he’s a lil cutie pie, but I think that he is defined by his nerve and chivalry. He deeply cares about equality and fighting for those who are unable to do so for themselves. His recurring passion in the show is the fight to end slavery. He dueled Charles Lee on Hamilton’s behalf when Alex wasn’t able to do so himself. Laurens went out of his way to put himself in the line of fire for people/causes he cared about regardless of the consequences.

George Washington: Ravenclaw

I think that GWash is often characterized as a gryffindor because of the image him of the military general and all around hero, but more prominent than his bravery is his calculating intelligence. Early in the revolutionary war he retreated his men for miles and miles without letting up the fight so as to not wring them dry before the war was up. He fought a losing battle for a long time but managed to lose strategically so as to still have soldiers to fight when they were able to push back. He stepped down from the presidency when he could have continued so as to ensure that the transition would be smooth and America would be able to self-sustain without him. Each of his actions were carried out with thorough thought and consideration.

definitely though, the case could be argued for him being a gryffindor. I think he’s a very near split.

King George III: Gryffindor

Like, sure? He’s in this weird boat of I don’t think he has enough clear characteristics to fit into another house. He’s more of a process of elimination. He’s not a slytherin, ravenclaw, or hufflepuff, soooo

I think he tries to embody gryffindor traits enough that he manages to sooooort of do it?

Actually if you have thoughts on this please tell me I want more insight.

Maria Reynolds: Slytherin

First and foremost Maria is not a slytherin because of her vaguely antagonistic qualities in the show. She serves as a vessel to convey part of Alex’s character and winds up being a very significant series of plot points. We love to hate her because she was Alex’s big mistake, but that’s not what makes her a slytherin. She went to Hamilton’s home with a goal in mind. Girl knew what she wanted and she got it. She was driven, sly, goal-oriented. “just give him what he wants and you can have me” to her lover, a married man, about her husband

Or perhaps in Slytherin, You'll make your real friends, Those cunning folk use any means, To achieve their ends.

Thomas Jefferson: Ravenclaw

To vaguely quote Daveed, Jefferson wrote amazing words but he sucks. He wrote long and eloquent passages with inspirational messages and all that jazz, but he also just sort of got handed success and didn’t have to do a lot of fighting. This rules out the potential for him being a slytherin: he didn’t have to be cunning and ambitious to get anywhere, he just got there. He was fabulously clever and used it well, and to his advantage, but not with enough intent to be classified as a slytherin.

James Madison: Ravenclaw

Angelica Schuyler: Ravenclaw

Lin has literally said himself that Angelica is the most intelligent character in the show. She raps because she matches Hamilton’s intellect. The first time we meet her she talks Thomas Paine and feminist constitutional reform. I think she also exhibits a great deal of loyalty to her sisters, particularly when she acknowledges that Eliza would hand Alex to her if she asked but chooses not to to preserve Eliza’s happiness. Intelligence, though, is the characteristic most emphasized in the show.

Eliza Schuyler: Gryffindor

Eliza begins the show looking a lot like a hufflepuff (”you’ll never find anyone as trusting or as kind” LOL) but winds up taking the reins in the show and shaping her own legacy as well as building and maintaining Alex’s. Her spectacular perseverance, drive, and daring nature make her a true gryffindor by the end. Forgiving Alex for his misdeeds also takes a great deal of courage.

Peggy Schuyler: Gryffindor

Why does everyone think my girl Peggy’s a hufflepuff?? I think she’s a victim of “we don’t really know her, guess she’s a hufflepuff” syndrome which is rarely accurate and sheds a weird light on hufflepuffs as a whole lol

k now we’re getting to the challenging ones. When it comes to Burr I try to bear in mind that his actions could be attributed to pretty much any house but his intent and motivations are what make me inclined to sort him as slytherin. He literally had so little policy that he was endorsed for president by two political parties. He also CHANGED political parties just to try to get further. His few beliefs were so malleable he could stretch them in any direction if it looked like he could succeed more that way. He was after success. He wanted to make a name for himself. He was hunting for a legacy and it didn’t really matter what that legacy was until it became “the guy who shot his longtime rival”

Alexander Hamilton: Ravenclaw

A. Ham, I believe, is a perfect blend of ravenclaw and slytherin. He’s ambitious, clever, sly, witty. He fought hard for family and legacy, which is a distinctly slytherin trait, but his honesty is what convinces me. If his ambitions were purely glory, legacy, etc he never would have published the reynolds pamphlet. In protecting his image as a public servant he knowingly ruined the rest of his persona as well as many aspects of his personal life. A slytherin focused on success would never have made such a mistake, even if slytherin!Ham had had the affair he would have thrown tjeffs and madison off his case some other way. He also literally wrote himself off Nevis and to the mainland and wrote his way to nearly every other success he had. He was super witty, pulling receipts on Jefferson and Burr at every opportunity, and used his intellect to his advantage (which, yes, is a lil slytherin-esque.) The final straw, though, to me, is that the sorting hat takes preference into account. Hamilton is a perfect balance of slytherin and ravenclaw, but when it comes down to it I believe he would rather be categorized as a ravenclaw- and with a balance this precarious that’s all it takes.
