I’m reading Good Omens again and thinking about how Crowley and Aziraphale aren’t really men and aren’t really humans etc. Then I started thinking about the sentiment that even if being queer was a choice, people would still choose to be queer and how Aziraphale choses to appear as a gay man. He choses to be the kind of person who gets called “the southern pansy”. That’s a choice that he made.

#gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide. southern pansy. talking like a poofter.#good omens is FULL of people being derogatory towards aziraphale because they perceive him to be a gay man #and yet he doesn’t change #my own post #i think that’s why all the talk about how he was (and is) a gay auntie are so close to my heart #of course he would be! if you’re going to make the choice to be perceived as a gay man with all that entails why wouldn’t you take every #bay gay and struggling queer sibling under your wing? especially if you’re an angel #aziraphale is - at his core - a good person. a kind person. and he chooses to make the lgbtq+ community hos community #he makes that choice. and he sticks to it. there’s got to have been easier things to have done throughout history but no.#aziraphale is one of us because he chose to be.#and we can too. maybe you can’t choose your gender or sexuality but you can choose to be part of the community and you can choose to be out #and those are important decisions. big decisions. we always have choice and I’m so so proud of everyone who chooses to be here #that being said. quoting from bbc trigonometry- what you’re doing is brave as hell but it’s just as brave to walk away #it’s brave to be out. but it’s just as brave to be in. not in the same way no but it takes courage all the same #aziraphale #good omens

i’ve realized that i have a very strong ‘gimme positive stimulation’ response to stress.

i may not even consciously know i’m stressed. but my body will call out to me:

“hey. i need something. i wanna smoke something. drink something. bite something. someone. feel someone. something. anything. now.”

and like. it’s a constant uphill battle, finding ways to re-direct that stress response into healthy coping mechanisms, yknow?

i’ve found exercise is by far the most helpful thing for me. but that’s just like. not practical all the time. i can’t workout at 1 am lol.

neither is removing the source of the stress. sometimes you have some control over it. other times u don’t.

anyway. art kinda helps. journaling helps. stretching and breathing exercises often help. reading is nice but doesn’t make it go away.

i think it’s about re-directing the stress. sitting with it, and putting that energy into something tangible. i think that’s really important for me.

Rereading Grass Dancer and I rly have to say that the first chapter is such a great start to the book. It sets the tone for the entire book afterwards, the way everyone’s lives intersect with each other, the feeling of something missing, the way magic is interwoven into the story, so on.

#love letters my beloved #I love writing love letters (or honestly just letters in general) so much #growing up I was known for writing long letters to my friends and family #honestly it depends on what you would classify as a *love letter*#I’ve never wrote a super long letter expressing my love and all my true feelings #but I have written quite a few notes and letters out of love #if we want to go literal when I was dating my ex I would write little letters for him all the time #we lived together so usually when I left I would leave a little note with a packed bowl 💖#also for a few birthdays and holidays (especially when I was broke) I would make things for him #and that usually ended up having a super long letter on it or with it #aww story time #I still remember writing little post it notes for him and sticking them around the house for him to randomly find 😂#or like when he was excited to come home from work and do something or watch something (usually baseball related)#I would leave pump up post it’s from the garage to his room 😂😂😂#or when I was in a sappy lovey dovey mood I would leave little ‘I love you’ or ‘you’re cute’ or random cutesy stuff #and stick them all over his room #some obvious like right by his tv or computer #and some would be random to find like under blankets or in drawers 😌#honestly once I find the love of my life???? Well honestly the good old tumble hasn’t really been feeling very home-y like it used to lately. Almost all my friends and people who I want to see and cheer for and interact with have left their blogs or been somehow harassed off the platform. My favourite fandoms are about as dead as they can be, and no one really interacts with me anymore.

That’s why I haven’t been too pressed to put out any more writing and have just been focusing on personal projects that at least bring me some joy and self satisfaction. Not to say that I am gone or anything, but its just been a bit depressing logging on if I’m being honest 💛💙💗

joel saved ellie but he also took away her choice and continually lied to her for years to come. but joel saved ellie and would do it “all over again” and was able to tell her that during their last conversation with each other. he loves her, but he’s also selfish in that love and you could argue whether he was right or wrong a million different ways and you would be correct - that’s part of the point. people are forgetting that regardless of the right choice, there’s still consequences.

if joel had left ellie to the fireflies, ellie would’ve fulfilled what she thought her purpose was and a possible cure would’ve been made, leaving the world in a place where it could finally begin to heal from cordyceps. and perhaps joel would be able to find peace with his brother. but for that to happen, joel would be without ellie and he would have lost a daughter for the second time and, for him, that was a sacrifice that was too great.

with where we’re currently at, joel’s actions will lead to his eventual estrangement from ellie. he took that choice from her and lied to her again and again until she finally found out the truth on her own and refused contact with him until the very end. but it also allowed for years where he was able to be with her, teach her the guitar and how to swim and show her wonderful things and just be a dad again. he didn’t deserve his eventual death, but it happened with the same reason as to how he still has ellie now: love and the fear of losing it. joel made the choice to swap a cure for years as ellie’s father, and no one can say it was the right or wrong choice, but each option he was presented with had bittersweet outcomes.

and that’s part of the beauty of the last of us. it’s not often where characters are presented with decisions that are obviously the right one, much like real life. and sometimes we won’t know our consequences until years to come. but you make the most of what you have in the time you have it, and that’s exactly what joel did.
