okay for the 4 people who care about this crossover, here's the yj muses thrown into a tvdu world. this will probably also serve as the generic supernatural verse (well, supernatural beyond whatever woo woo shit is going on in canon).

lottie matthews - french quarter witch whose greatest strength/power lies in the gift of prophecy and visions. these are rarely straightforward or easy to interpret and she's gotten it wrong more than she's gotten it right. however, she thinks they were given to her for a reason and believes in trying to use it to help others, even if she stumbles a bit along the way.

van palmer - untriggered werewolf who was attacked by another pack when she was 17, which left her with facial scars and a deep, yet irrational fear of her own wolf. she knows it's likely only a matter of time before she triggers the curse and is trying to grapple with the reality that she can never escape the thing she fears most.

taissa turner - vampire who was turned in the 60s, at the height of the civil rights era. taissa is old enough to understand the patterns of history repeating itself, but still young enough that she is caught in her own hubris of trying to enjoy all the perks of immortality without any of the consequences.

shauna shipman - werewolf who triggered her curse at 18 and never looked back at the sleepy suburban life she left behind. the wolf brought a lot of clarity to shauna, who never understood where the depths of her temper and rage would stem from, and she finds herself discovering a new way of life by embracing the wolf.

natalie scatorccio - vampire turned in 1996 when a night of partying turned into an overdose with vampire blood in her system. nat is still very young when it comes to being a vampire, and she has a tendency to overindulge in feeding. not to the level of a ripper status, but enough that she can cause a few heads to turn if she's not careful about covering her tracks.

I'm surprised, when I made this blog I thought it'd be 100% nat scatorccio hours but I'm really tickled by how much Jackie's grown on me? and I appreciate all of you with an interest in writing with her, whether it's canon, AU, or just nonstop ghost jackie terrorizing your muse hours.

regarding verses; as to keep from giving myself too much work and making a million pages, all verses will be as follows.

canon / young verses will be place holders for pre series and wilderness / 1996 timeline. all muses ( except paul and adam ) will be between the ages of sixteen and eighteen.

canon / adult verses will be place holders for pre series ( 2000 to 2021 ) and present day timeline. all muses ( except paul and adam ) will be between the ages of twenty-two and forty-four.

canon verses for paul and adam will be a place holder for pre series ( 2019 to 2021 ), the 1996 timeline ( paul only ), and present day timeline. this verse will be more suited for any interactions with the yellowjackets team ( which is doubtful but plotting can happen ) and will follow paul navigating life without ben ( this is simply an assumption until proven otherwise. ) as for adam, the verse will follow his canon up until his death in season one.

original character(s) verses will fall into the canon timeline with slight adjustments to make said original character(s) fit into canon. plotting will always be encouraged.

regarding the canon events of season two with natalie and kevyn; their deaths do not happen. i will at a later date go into further explanation as to how they both survive but the general premise for nat is that she was able to stop misty from attacking lisa or herself thus preventing her death from happening. more information will be added as the show goes on but she will be heavily canon divergent and head canon based. kevyn will be a bit more trickier and will need plotting.

regarding the canon events for season one with travis; his death does serve a purpose as it brings the fellow survivors back together. so for his character, i will be following canon including his death. however there will be a major focus on his life post rescue and pre series.

Nats story is very linked to travis, and no matter what she is always going to have love for him. That love is mixed with grief and need, though, and they're never going to have a healthy relationship. They feel like they owe a debt to each other because of everything that they have been through with each other, and the sacrifices that have been made in the name of their love (namely, javi). They understand each other, and nat does feel connected to him in a way that she doesn't the rest of the team. She sees through some of that fragile, toxic exterior to the guy that is trying to be something he isn't. And she really, really loves the guy he is, but she can understand letting rage eat you inside. She can understand lashing out. She can understand feeling emotions so large that you feel like exploding. And she knows what it's like to feel like you don't belong and aren't wanted in your family and how you carry that even when you don't want to. She saw travis climb up the tree for his dad, and she knew this was someone that she would understand, and maybe more importantly and definitely scarier, someone who would also understand her.

Van is not one of the 100 and while it's important to me that Mel is the sole survivor of factory station when Bellamy finn Murphy sterling and Monroe arrive, i think it parallels the plane well to say everyone presumed van died with the rest but Surprise Bitch

In other words, van is found near the factory station crash alive and it's a big shock to everyone

Shauna ends up with farm station and while people are being picked off and taken, she steps up to learn how to use a knife on earth and help with food preparations and later with fighting against azgeda

Shauna was the best in earth skills class but no one knew it

Van nearly dies in an animal attack and later is supposed to die in praimfaya because not on the list but does not

By the time sanctum arrives, van is like yeah Bill Cadogan I am with you because seeking a reason for why they keep surviving when people around them aren't and there have been no shortages of near death experiences. There needs to be a Reason for this

Nat is not the only one to show guilt or remorse over what happened, but it is so important to me that nat needs to be alone. Nat cannot be around the rest of the girls after this, especially as the last person to eat jackie. She enjoyed it, the way they all did, because it meant that there was food. But she is well aware that Ben did not participate and recently learned that tai did not actively participate either. Nat sits outside the entire night staring at what is left. Nat is the one who brings up needing to do something because the remains (her words) can't just sit there. She needs to bring jackie somewhere else. She needs to say goodbye. She IS the only one we see actively say goodbye after this.

We have a two month time jump. We don't know how everyone reacted to Jackie's death. We don't get to see that. But we do see that they have acknowledged that jackie is dead and shauna talking to her corpse is strange or grief or whacked. It seems like they really haven't been talking about it until two months passed either.

Shauna & nat are the only ones we see saying any sort of goodbye to jackie. I think about that a lot.

Nat needed to take Jackie's bones somewhere. She needed to be alone. She didn't want travis or tai or anyone else to help. She needed to be alone.

anyway switching back to yj for a min. shauna kills adam because she truly believes he is the blackmailer and was using him and that she was in danger in that moment from him. she frames him to protect jeff. she lies to tai (because that one is a personal betrayal) and nat about what happened, about most things, and nat focuses on how she won't get answers for travis now because she's convinced herself the blackmailer and travis' killer are one and the same.

the conversation that nat and shauna have in the bathroom is one of the most honest shauna has had in an extremely long time, and i think that really resonates with nat. nat was the one that called out tai and shauna for hiding behind their "perfect" lives and pretending like they aren't as messed up as her. then shauna discloses her own secret about how she views the world, the emptiness she feels, connecting herself to travis (a different post is needed for me to discuss everything i feel about shauna travis thanks) and in turn nat, because they understand each other so well.

they both have these thankless roles in the wilderness. nat gets blamed for not bringing back enough meat, and shauna is the one tasked with rations and portion control and later with literally cutting up their friends. nat takes on the role of queen, which could be seen as thanks except it's a role she also never asked for and responsibility that was placed on her. they both lost their purpose after the wilderness, and they understand each other in a way no one else really can.

and so when shauna tells nat that she feels the same way nat has, and the way she assumed travis did, nat actually listens. nat hears shauna say travis might have given up, hears shauna say that she needs to forgive both travis and herself for this action and not being able to save him, and while nat is unable to do that, she does come to terms with the act itself. travis was not connected to the blackmailer; shauna knew this. shauna can't tell nat how she knows this, but she can give her some relief, if blunt advice. it's a story about love!!!!

i just think there is something about how nat could never forgive herself for javi sacrificing himself for her. she was worse than all of them because she let this kid, her somewhat boyfriend's brother, her own family, her friend, die in her place. it was supposed to be her, she heard the cries from javi and watched him die nonetheless.

but now she didn't watch. she didn't watch at all when it came to lisa. she stole the fish. she intervened with her family. she died in her place. nat healed a part of her when sacrificing herself for lisa. it wasn't right. it wasn't her time. she didn't want to go, but she got to finally pay forward javi's sacrifice in a way that she's never been able to do and always been punishing herself for. she got to heal her inner child by saving lisa. ( the irony is that it may not have happened had she not gone to try and save lisa to begin with. not tipped her off to something happening. these are the consequences of the girls actions. they wanted a hunt through the woods, they got one. they went after shauna and called off services, nat pays the price. misty tries to solve the problem the way she has been but she's not a perfect serial killer and she missed. they covered up the wrong guy at the end of last season. they killed the wrong person at the end of this one. ).

travis didn't break the pact, but neither did she. she did better. (btw travis was on the plane <3)

There is something so special about Nats heart. Lisa is someone that nat attacked (reasonably so, sorry Lisa) but then Lisa was open and vulnerable with her, and nat really did respond to that. Nat also grew up with a parent that talked a lot of shit and demeaned her often, so she reacts and steps in when she sees that happening again. If it makes her happy then who cares! Nat doesn't need to understand it (she does more than she cares to admit) but it brings Lisa some peace and can't that be enough? Shouldn't that be enough? (Can't she enjoy punk music, smoking, painting her friends nails. Can't she have space. Can't she exist.).

there is something very, very specific about the way shauna & nat understand each other. they've both done things that led to tragedy and because of that....things need to be worth it. shauna slept with jeff and jackie died over it (among other things). javi died in nat's place. shauna marries jeff because jackie dying needs to mean something so she'll mold herself into what jackie would have been. she doesn't get to move on. she stays right there where jackie is. nat and travis make a pact because javi dying has to be worth it. they keep falling back to each other because no one gets it like they do. travis asked for javi's help to save nat. javi screamed for nat's help to save him. nat let him die. that has to mean something. jackie dies and that has to be worth something.

they live while the people around them don't. they do the tasks no one wants, no one is grateful for, and they take the responsibility and the blame. they shoulder that shame. they get it.
