Moth Fact: Though to us the Rosy Maple Moth really stands out due to its bright colors; in nature they’re camouflaged well. They hide against the maple tree fruits called samaras. They are a smaller silk moth species. These guys are fairly popular amongst moth owners.

In case no one can tell I'm lowkey in love with the concept of Hawkfrost being the Three's father. Cause like. The Drama.
Leafpaw, a medicine car apprentice with a deep connection to Starclan from a young age, whi meets Hawkfrost in the midst of the worst moons of her life. Her sister is off on a journey, believed missing, her clan and all four clans are in the brink of disaster nearly daily.
Then we have that one scene from Canon where Hawkfrost saves her from a dog. And Leafpaw in this au is Enamored. Butterflies in the stomach and all. Finds out that this is Mothwing's infamous brother, and maybe she has a crush on the charismatic bad boy that saved her life.
Hawkfrost initially just wants to use this to get better opportunity for killing Firestar. Hawkfrost has daddy issues and just wants to make Togerstar proud. But over time he starts finding himself genuinely fond of the Thunderclan medicine apprentice. She has an outlook on life he never really considered, a genuine care for those around her regardless of clan, and understands the feeling of wanting nothing more than to see your sister, your sole sibling, happy.
Long story short, Tigerstar still manipulates Hawkfrost into trying to kill Firestar, idk what his reasoning is but Hawk truly believes he's doing what's right for the clans. But Brambleclaw won't go through with it, and Squirrelflight brings help... only for Leafpool to watch her secret mate's lifeblood flow into the lake, fulfilling a prophecy she wished she'd never heard. Now she has no mentor, no mate, and a litter of illegal kits the children of an attempted murderer.
The Drama Yall

Frostpaw spends a night over in WindClan with Whistlepaw and the two become fast friends.
Some notes of what I'm thinking about with this:
Mothwing doesn't have a connection with StarClan so she'd like Frostpaw to get some mentorship on that from Kestrelflight who is already training Whistlepaw.
Whistlepaw is mentioned as being a warrior apprentice in TBC The Silent Thaw before becoming a med cat apprentice. I think that is super interesting given that Frostpaw quits to be a warrior.
Can include questions from Frostpaw like "What was being a warrior apprentice like?" "What was hunting like?" "Do you miss it?" "How do you know if your visions are real?" "What is StarClan like for you?" to break the ice, but then I imagine it leading into more questions about themselves and building a real friendship. :)
GIRLS' NIGHT! GIRLS' NIGHT! GIRLS' NIGHT!
I ADORED seeing this in my inbox. We hardly see much of the meddies' supposed trumping of Clan borders and I think a setup where they pass apprentices around to cover their weaknesses is super interesting.
And really it is a good excuse to think of Kestrelflight, how he'd be as a mentor, and the dynamic of the half-moon meetings post-Po3. It is nice to imagine the meddie apprentice club in their youth but now that they've grown so much. Jay's become a hero to the Clans, Willow's gone, Kestrel only now and very reluctantly takes an apprentice of his own. And he probably remains the single colleague Mothwing still has a good relationship with, so no wonder she's sending Frostpaw to him.
But let's not neglect the main girls themselves! You're so very right that as a warrior apprentice turned meddie she is in an interesting position to give advice to a doubting Frostpaw in discerning whether the path is good for her. Particularly I'm thinking in how one of the things Frostpaw feels a longing for is the idea of training alongside her siblings. She could satisfy a curiosity in that regard.
Aaaaaah! The thoughts are swirling, swirling, swirling here. Best to get right into the piece and let the soup settle there.
(Want me to write you a one-scene ficlet? Check out my guidelines and send it in! The more suggestions the better, that way I can have more leeway in chosing which make it to writing from here to November 30th.)
Frostpaw lay with her paws tucked under her side by side to Whistlepaw in the latter’s expanded nest.
The instructions for this part of the special training session had seemed simple enough: sleep. The fragrant herb mixture that they’d woven into the moss lining as well as the chants she’d performed under the pristine light of stars on a moonless night would take care of the rest. Or at least so went that WindClan’s method for inducing contact with StarClan.
And yet, the RiverClan apprentice couldn’t help but feel uneasy with this whole thing. She shifted her position ever so slightly, careful to not disturb the sleep of her nestmate for the night. The exercise was beginning to feel as fruitless as the other things Kestrelflight had been trying to teach her. From the daily prayer routine in praise of Moth Flight he’d tried to drill into her to his lesson on cloud reading, whatever spark that made Whistlepaw and Kestrelflight just get it seemed absent in her.
As she huffed in frustratrion, she felt a tail drape over her side and out of the corner of her vision saw an amber eye open tentatively. “Having trouble with this as well?” Whistlepaw whispered.
Frostpaw blinked, sneaking a glance into Kestrelflight’s nest to verify if the senior oracle was still resting belly up and with his head resting against the edge of his nest. After a few moments of seeing his chest gently rise and fall to the rhythms of sleep she turned back to Whistlepaw and gave a timid nod. “Did you... did you also have trouble your first time?”
“Oh, this is my first time,” she replied.
Frostpaw’s ears drooped at hearing that. She’d forgotten that although her friend was twice her age she too had only recently been made an oracle’s apprentice.
“Don’t worry about it,” she reassured, caressing her tail across the younger apprentice’s flank. “At least you didn’t sprain an ankle and crash into an abandoned burrow on your first day learning how to run down a rabbit.”
Frostpaw turned to her friend with wide eyes to which Whistlepaw only gave a solemn nod. “Did it...?”
“Hurt? My pride more than anything. By the time Kestrelflight gave me the okay to leave his den everyone was still chattering about it. Flutterfoot more than anyone.” She stopped to shake her head. “Lucky opportunist. The rabbit ended up hopping right into his paws. But I had my payback next quarter moon during battle training. Should’ve seen his face when I swept him off his feet and pinned him in three heartbeats flat.”
Frostpaw purred for her peer as she imagined the scene. For a moment she spotted Kestrelflight shift in his nest out of the corner of her eye, making her heart skip a beat. But as he rolled onto hsi side and curled up in what was clearly still a dream state, she relaxed once again.
“Heavy sleeper as they come,” Whistlepaw whispered into her ear. “Don’t wanna tempt StarClan but I bet that even if we spoke normally he wouldn’t wake up. Anyway, my point is we all have our strengths and weak points. Bet this just means this iss going to be an area in which you’re gonna need to put a little more work in.”
“Thank you,” Frostpaw muttered, trying to go back and sleep as instructed.
“So,” Whistlepaw began again. “What made you chose to become an oracle’s apprentice?”
“Oh, well,” Frostpaw began. “It’s just that I’ve always had a gift for dreaming of things before they happen. Like when I would dream of a storm coming over camp and even though the sky had been clear it would pour all over us.”
“Ah, so a natural in prophecy,” Whistlepaw said, giving a slight bump to her fellow apprentices’s shoulder. “No wonder divination is hard for you.”
“And why did you chose to become Kestrelflight’s apprentice?” she asked. “You were about to become a warrior, weren’t you?”
“The warrior life loses its starshine when you are so close to it,” she replied. “It just got so boring to be doing the same old tasks. And even the things that I was very good at, like pummeling my siblings in battle training was getting repetitive. I much more liked the idea of being here, always learning something new.”
“Don’t you ever miss them?” she asked.
Whistlepaw shrugged. “I still see them all the time. You’d almost believe Flutterfoot keeps getting into freak accidents just so he can come brag to me that he’s got his warrior name.” She paused for a moment. “Do you not see your own littermates much?”
Frostpaw shook her head. “Mothwing prefers to treat all patients on her own. Often leaves me to keep memorizing herbs. Was it fun training with them?”
“I suppose,” Whistlepaw replied. “Except when they got competitive. At least when you’re an oracle’s apprentice you aren’t getting challenged to endless rematches or stuck hearing their nine times nine excuses on why really if you think about it they only came in last on the practice race due to bad luck.”
A pause settled between them as the topic seemed to have been exhausted but suddenly Whistlepaw spoke up again. “How about you try telling Mothwing that you’re overwhelmed? A good mentor must be able to find a pace that their apprentice feels comfortable.”
“I can try that,” Frostpaw said with a yawn.
Whistlepaw smiled at that. Seems tiring her out worked in the end!

it is very funny and very difficult for me to have any sincere opinion on the current riverclan conflict and whether or not the other clans should have tried to step in when “riverclan is clearly falling apart” because frankly I do not understand at all why riverclan is falling apart in the first place.
Why is the problem presented as “patrols and chores aren’t getting done!!” how is the camp crumbling and food not getting caught?? the leader isnt even the one in charge of organizing patrols, a leader doesn’t even do that much on a daily basis. what is mothwing even supposedly doing that’s keeping her from work all day. the only thing they should be immediately missing is the ability to do naming ceremonies.
I feel like there have been many points in the series where someone is temporarily appointed in a leadership/deputy-like position when a leader steps out and it’s not even note-worthy because why would it be, do you also need a leader to remind you to breathe and go to the bathroom?? it is literally just the exact same set of repetitive monotonous daily chores that everyone has been doing on rotation for their entire lives. I don’t understand why a clan shouldn’t be able to go on cruise control for a couple months without concrete leadership. I’d get it if there was some major conflict with other clans that required leader authority, but this is just daily life. what is the problem here. how am i supposed to have a thought on what the correct course of action was in regards to the other clans response when the way the problem is expressing itself is so nonsense 😭

Hawkstar Au Notes Part 4:
Sometime after the tunnel incident, Tadpolepaw just can't stop thinking about the warrior apprentice from Thunderclan she had met and how..familiar he felt. Sleekpaw on the other paw can't relate, disliking him just as much as anyone else from Thunderclan. Hawkstar further trains him to be Riverclan's war machine for upcoming battles, Sleekpaw becoming further desentitized from his emotions and especially his sister, who is struggling after the tunnel incident and Mothwing's death..
In Thunderclan, Jaypaw is exploring his powers, saving Poppypaw from dying like in canon, but also just drifting into other cats dreams out of curiosity. While exploring Ashfur's dreams however, he gets a horrifying vision of him in a blazing forest fire, standing over Firestar's dead body, and Hawk feathers scoured everywhere around the desolated camp. He wakes up startled, and becomes increasingly uncomfortable around Ashfur, who he can feel staring at him regardless of where he is in camp. He notices from conversations between Squirrelflight and Leafpool about how he sneaks in and out of camp mysteriously, smelling faintly of the water. Others assume it's either him simply keeping his pelt clean, but some are suspicious, most notably Leafpool, Squirrelflight, and Brightheart. Ashfur keeps Firestar on his good side by constantly reminding him of how he had saved him from Brambleclaw's traitorous paws in the past. Jaypaw also constantly thinks of Tadpolepaw, having felt similar to how she did about being familiar, including with her aggresive brother Sleekpaw..
Meanwhile in Shadowclan, after a skirmish between a Shadowclan patrol and a Riverclan patrol, Voletooth, the new deputy of Riverclan after Blackclaw's death, finds out about Brambleclaw being alive when Rowanclaw accidentally spills the beans. He relays this information to Hawkstar, who's furious his brother is alive and possibly trying to warn others of what he did in the past. He leads a big patrol out to Shadowclan and demands Blackstar give them Brambleclaw, who denies this. Brambleclaw and Tawnypelt are terrified, fearing Hawkstar will kill them both. A battle ensues and in the midst of it, Sleekpaw manages to take a few of Blackstar's lives through maiming him severely. Russetfur almost dies but is saved by Brambleclaw, who takes Hawkstar's second life. The Riverclan cats retreat but promise to be back to kill Brambleclaw, leaving Blackstar with the choice of either keeping him and risking more lives being taken, or exiling him for Shadowclan's safety. Brambleclaw however, makes this decision for him, not wanting to put his sister at risk, and decides to leave to go find help outside the clans, heading towards the mountains. Tawnypelt is devestated but understands, hoping he can reveal the truth to everyone and stay alive without Hawkstar having his head served to Riverclan on a silver platter..
On the horizon, an exiled Rogue named Sol peaks above the hills nearing Clan Territory. He wanders before meeting an Riverclan patrol. Before Sleekpaw can dig claws into his pelt, Voletooth stops him, scolding his apprentice and bringing Sol to Hawkstar. He acts friendly towards the Rogue, having had roots outside of the clans, and allows him to join despite his lazy and selfish attitude. While his clanmates complain about him not helping, Hawkstar insists he has use, as Sol had told him, Willowshine, and Tadpolepaw of the Eclipse. Hawkstar is so willing to believe their new clanmate, giving him the name Sunshadow, and allowing him to do as he pleases, as he bosses the medicine cats around daily. Tadpolepaw grows annoyed, if this newcomer had actual knowledge of what may happen, then why not become a medicine cat with all those talks about "visions" and whatnot? She is also shocked to hear he does not believe Starclan has any power, but attempts to understand as Mothwing had not believed either. She missed her former mentor so dearly..
With more war and bloodshed on it's way, and a newcomer with unclear intentions, who knows how long it will take before the clans start to collapse from the chaos around them. Jaypaw doesn't even know one of the two prophecy cats is right in the middle of Riverclan, being pressured into using himself as a weapon of destruction...

I only just started reading the newest book, but so far, I really don’t like how Mothwing is being characterized. I didn’t like her in the last arc either; she was incredibly cruel and unfair in her treatment of Shadowsight, and it honestly didn’t feel like she was the same character as before.
I feel like that trend is continuing in her first few chapters with Frostpaw (Im on chapter 10) She’s quite short with Frostpaw, and seems to have really high expectations of her despite her only being an apprentice for a moon.
For example, on their first trip to the Moonpool, she’s giving Frostpaw a quiz on herbs. Frostpaw gets one wrong, and Mothwing scolds her really harshly. It seems really unfair, given how early she is in her training and how much Frostpaw is shown to doubt herself.
The way she’s handling Starclan also doesn’t really track for me. Mothwing has been a medicine cat for years, and worked with Willowshine daily for a lot of that. Despite what she says, she should understand at least a little of how Starclan works. She should know better than to demand Frostpaw, a brand-new apprentice, speak to Starclan for her every time she has a question. She knows very well that’s not how these things work, and that’s way too much pressure to put on an apprentice who’s only ever spoken with Starclan once before.
Overall it really feels like she doesn’t want to be training Frostpaw. Which, maybe she doesn’t; maybe it turns out she’s still really grieving for Willowshine, she doesn’t want to train a new apprentice. I guess it could be interesting. But right now I just feel really bad for Frostpaw; she’s been put in a really unfair position, especially now that Riverclan knows Mothwing doesn’t speak to Starclan. Everyone expects her to have the answers and she’s only just out of the nursery!
AND that’s really compounded by her mother’s flippant attitude towards her worries. It feels like no one really ever listens to her when she talks. They brush aside her fears and worries with really hand-wavey responses. Reading her chapters, Frostpaw seems very isolated and lonely.
