Vinny Gambini vs Tommy DeVito: what if someone who knew the Italian mob lifestyle took them on?

Much of the humour of My Cousin Vinny is that Vincent Gambini is played by Joe Pesci, and with the exact same mannerims as his mob characters too.

He'll fight you and he'll compliment your Mama on her meatballs same as anyone, he'll drink to you with a hearty Salute!, he's nice to the priest, he has too many cousins named Tony, no doubt, likes a good nightclub, he doesn't like it when you look at him funny but, and here's a crucial difference with Pesci's mob characters, he won't whack anyone because whatsammata with you?! Fuggedaboutit, ya punk!

Now we only see him on his first ever case but I'd be curious to know what would happen to him if, and this is likely, somebody in trouble with both the mob and the police, maybe with bought cops, would come to him. And I don't mean in a Saul Goodman way. He does not want to be a made man, he wants to play it straight, and he smells mob bullshit very quickly.

So here you have Vinny litigating the hell out of some Frankie di Angelo's wrongful arrest. Afterwards he gets a friendly visit from Tommy DeVito or Tony Soprano. How would that look? Could he talk himself out of getting whacked? I'm curious. And how could Lisa help him out? They tend to underestimate their women - that is if you go by the mob films and series.

I'd like to see that is all.

Mob guys:

"Now you get in line, maybe work for us, whaddaya say?"

Mr. and Mrs. Gambini

"Whaddaya take us for, huh?!"

BREAKING NOVEMBER 25, 2022—Indie Game Studio RETCON Games buys rights to transform hit cinema classic Goncharov (1973) into a video game.

“It’s the greatest mob flick ever made,” says Creative Director Jes Negrón. “The deep themes and heavy decisions the characters make are a perfect fit for our studio style.”

GONCHAROV: THE GAME will be a mob-inspired rouguelite where the player runs a series of seedy businesses, all of which involve protecting reputations and sending messages with pixel art shootouts in a palette that perfectly captures the air of dirty dealing.

The game is set to release in late 2023 with a musical score by none other than Hayley Williams.

It’s predicted to have the highest indie game sales of all time.
