What, like Pandora is actually hard to find?

On Sunday I watched the movie "The Dragon Pearl" with my mom and it has this scene where they open a secret passage with light reflected on a gem:
Tumblr media
Which reminded me that in The Avatar: the Last Airbender the firebenders and sun warriors use a similar mechanism:
Tumblr media
So I was thinking... What if Pandora was a key?
Let's imagine that the original legend spoke of a powerful Wizard who amazed people with his magic. He also helped people with it. There were thousands of rumors about said Wizard, but the one that resonated the most was that of his eternal youth. The man always looked young for his age, which led people to believe that he was immortal. Many, guided by these theories, turned to him in search of eternal youth. The Wizard always refused to tell his secret, until the people's insistence made him give in. He told them that it was thanks to magical waters. Thus, the magician allowed only a select group of people to have access to those waters. This caused quite a stir. Many people begged and demanded that the Wizard allow them free access to the waters. Some even went so far as to commit violent acts in order to scare and extort the Wizard. These damning acts provoked his anger. It is said that using his magic, he enclosed the power of the waters in a gem and hid it from the world. This did nothing to stop people. But rather the opposite. They called him selfish and persecuted him to reveal the location of the gem. He never told them. And to teach them a lesson, he cursed all the citizens and then disappeared. He never told anyone about the gem that was named Pandora. So it was lost, forever.
This is a fantastic story created from rumors, misunderstandings, superstitions and ignorance.
The real story is that the "Great Wizard" was actually an inventor who scammed people by pretending to do real magic.
The "magic waters" are actually hot springs. The guy found a couple of ponds hidden in a cave and kept the secret to himself. Just because he liked to enjoy them in his privacy.
When rumors started and people started asking, he decided to take advantage of this situation. He invented the story of magic water and allowed only people who paid him a lot to enter the cave. Some of these people were not trustworthy and began to lead others into the waters. They also scammed people to get them there. When the inventor realized this, he decided to hide the place.
He sealed the cave with an intricate lock that could only be found with a gem.
When people found out about all this they began to harass the Inventor. Out of spite, the man hid the gem and left.
Pandora has two functions:
First: It works as a map. Inside it has an old map that indicates the place where the hot springs are. This map is only seen when you put the gem in the light.
The second: It works as a key. The gem has to be placed in a specific place and must be illuminated with the light of the Moon. The reflection of light touches the lock and opens it.
Magic may exist in the world of MK. But the greatest attraction, in my opinion, that manga has is the ingenuity and the artifacts they use to create the illusions. So I like that Pandora follows this resource. It's fun and interesting.
It is also interesting to imagine how they find the gem. Maybe Kaito asks Akako (in a way that tries to be subtle but fails miserably) if she has ever heard of said gem. She would tell him no, she knows of the existence of many other magical gadgets that can work in a similar way but she has never heard of Pandora. Which would make sense, since Pandora is not a magical item. It's a scientific invention (or something like that). So the Witches never heard of her.
I am in favor of Hakuba being the one who finds out about the real existence of the gem or knows its location. Only he doesn't know his real function. How, his family owns this really ancient gem that has a very fanciful legend. But he notices the details about the moon and the light in the gem and questions if that's not what KID is looking for. Which begs the question "Why would Kuroba want that specific gem?" "Did he really believe in the magic he supposedly possesses?" "Or is there something else you're not seeing?" All of these questions end up with him keeping an eye on Kaito and trying to discern why that gem. Which bothers Kaito because he feels their gazes even more insistent and annoying.
I don't know, it's fun.

I've seen people ask "Why didn't Yuusaku investigate his brothers murder" and consider it a plot hole, but after some consideration I think it could be explained. My reasoning is:
1- Yuusaku knew Toichi had beef with other more dangerous criminals
2- If they didn't bother killing a world famous magician, they sure asf wouldn't hesitate to kill an author, too. If he did die, he would leave a very young child and his wife. And nothing would be solved.
3- We don't know how much Yuu knew. Like yeah it was obvious Toichi had beef with other, more dangerous criminals, but there's no guarantee Toichi told him about his night life, if at all. If MK organization wiped out all info about the case and called off the police investigation, it would be very hard to find a lead again. And as I said, doing so would surely bring unwanted attention.
Remember that the first KID was doing it all for shits and giggles before the whole pandora ordeal. Ik Yuu is one of the smartest mfs in Detco, but would he know about the gem? I mean, the only reason we even know about it is because they specifically told Toichi to find it. Otherwise, it would be impossible to know unless he found someone who works for them.
He might know it *now*, since Toichi and him are in contact with eachother, though. But again, we don't know how long Toichi went without telling people he was alive.
He even might have told him to not dig into the case because it would be dangerous to both of em. Unfortunately that DOES bring out the issue of Toichi being a terrible father, because it essentially means he went "don't worry bro, my 17yo traumatized son will solve this 👍" and Yuu was... fine with this ??
Like I understand not opening up an investigation or calling the fbi or whatever, since it would be dangerous to everyone involved- but not telling Kaito his pops is alive is just cruel. Kaitos already in danger anyway, so what's the point?

OC Questionnaire
I was tagged both by @mk-writes-stuff and @words-after-midnight -- thanks for the tag!
Rules: Answer the questions as your OCs, then add questions of your own for the next person.
I'm going to combine the two tags, so there are 6 questions total here, but my compromise is I'm only gonna answer with one OC 😂
What would you go back and do differently if you could redo one event in your life?
Alex: Honestly? Looking back, there are plenty of things cringe at or regret, and people I've lost that I wish were here. But all those things either led me to become who I am now, or else they were out of my control and changing my actions would only betray myself, not change their outcome. At the time, those were the choices I had in front of me. There's something to be said for destiny, too. Besides, I'm a psychometrist-- there's History in everything, including me, and nothing re-writes it. Nothing. No matter how hard you wish you could. So why waste your time wishing when you can move your history towards something better?
2. What’s the ugliest thing you’ve ever worn?
Alex: A t-shirt in the wrong size with a stupid picture of a stupid banana with stupid arms and legs and a stupid grin. It said "Beyond Cool" on it in fucking neon letters and Hannah still doesn't understand why it was a problem. (Please don't tell Reeve that Beyond Cool Banana beat the poindexter button-down and tie he made me wear).
How do you feel about children?
Alex: [shrugs] They're fine, I guess?
What are you afraid of?
Alex: Spending my life contorting myself for other people, or running from something bigger than myself, instead of running towards something worthwhile and becoming a part of something bigger than myself, as myself.
What's your favorite place in the world?
[Can't answer this one for Alex because spoilers, so instead:] Fox: On my couch, wrapped in a snuggie, drink in hand and video games on, preferably after a day of surfing, and snuggling with my favorite person. Pretty much anywhere she is, is my favorite place, actually. But like, especially on the couch.
Who would you trust most to keep a secret?
Alex: Secrets? Who is she? I'm a psychometrist who lives with a telepath and an empath. There are no secrets. But if I had to pretend it was a thing, I think it would be Misha. He doesn't have time or patience for nonsense.
I'm not sure who's been tagged in this one recently, so forgive me if it's redundant! But I'll gently tag @pandoras-comment-box @thatndginger @winterandwords @squarebracket-trickster @writingamongther0ses and open tag!
Your questions are:
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up and why?
What would you do on your ideal first date?
What's your morning routine?

OC Questionnaire Game
Thanks to @words-after-midnight for tagging me! (You can see their two boys answer their questions here.) I'll answer for the Beatty team ^^
My questions are:
1. What are you afraid of?
Gareth: Marcus Adler. Hannah: Uhhh, not to get real dark here but, honesty? Dying in front of someone I love because I'm an empath and that'd suck, like, extra hard, you know? Reeve: Disappointing them.
2. What's your favorite place in the world?
Gareth: Shit, I don't know. *long pause* The Chaffee Zoo? Hannah: Death Valley Nut & Candy Company! Reeve: Probably our kitchen? Or my garage.
3. Who would you trust most to keep a secret?
Gareth: Hannah. Hannah: Gareth. Reeve: Trust's got nothing to do with it. Some secrets are dangerous.
No pressure tagging @pandoras-comment-box @ceph-the-ghost-writer @thatndginger @chayscribbles @fayeiswriting @mk-writes-stuff
And your questions are:
What do you do when you can't sleep?
Do you forgive people easily?
What's the worst injury you've ever had?

*shrugs* Akai and his Akemi were romantic star-crossed lovers over years nd then revealed to be cousins. Honestly I didn't think it was weird to ship still while for shonen BL ships it becomes more controversial in the english fandom so one can't say anything. But writing issue yeah. Gosho wanting to merge two mangas whose worldbuilding shouldn't mix nd its too old school of him. If he did this 2000s I'd have accept but Magic Kaito cannot exist in the same universe even though he keep retconning
Spread the word: Gosho has a kink.
For many the cousin reveal isn't a big deal on the basis of them being cousins, if you get what I mean, it's more the horrible writing behind the decision people are pissed off with. Though it seems even antis in the English fandoms are giving Kaishin a free pass to ship it as they recognize the ass-pull this is and that is saying something.
And your right about the MK and DC world being something that is hard to merge and it's clear from the retcons this is the case. I bet Akako will be a character that is forgotten due to her magic being too illogical for the DC universe. Kaitou KID was already a stretch but the myth of Pandora could still work in DC using the logic that a fanatic group believes it to be real and will kill over it even though the gem doesn't exist (though it does ruin KIDs story).
Its a mess and honestly I'm kind of curious how much more messy it will become.

Doctor Strange #1 review
It’s all about subtleties.
I think issue #1 is a perfect start, not because of the possible mystic threats and glorious magic fights. It’s perfect because it’s just Stephen being Stephen. More than that, it’s just Stephen being happy and doing good on a regular basis. It’s simple, but it sums up everything he represents as a hero.
And all the team got it right, whether it’s the story, art or colors. It’s sweet and colorful, even though not everything is sunshine and roses (which gives the right, believable tone to Clea and Stephen’s relationship, after all).
But first, this is my remark that we were SO RIGHT to assume these two would f* like rabbits. So yeah, it’s canon hehe not that we needed any confirmation but... 👀
Tumblr media
Now, back to the subtleties. They speak of a lovely couple teasing one another.
Tumblr media
(Clea and Marc’s friendship is unbreakable now btw)
They speak of Stephen’s compassion towards his friends.
Tumblr media
They speak of domestic life.
Tumblr media
And fluffiness.
Tumblr media
And peace of mind.
Tumblr media
But they also speak of important matters like the crisis we have to face in order to fight for human rights and equality.
(if this metaphor is not clear, this IS a criticism towards the way the world has been treating war refugees, especially those of color)
Tumblr media
In addition, those subtleties speak of injustice.
Tumblr media
As well as conflict.
Tumblr media
In short, this is the essence of Doctor Strange. If you want to learn who Stephen is, this is the perfect issue to illustrate it all. His kindness, compassion, duty, his conflicted heart, love and life, patience, altruism, stubbornness, weaknesses, flaws, maturity. He’s just a human with incredible mystic abilities and a powerful heart.
It’s not a dramatic story, it’s just... light-hearted in its own way. There’s conflict but the focus is a man who is finally learning happiness again. It’s an accurate portrayal of life, in which nothing is perfect but there’s beauty and joy. A well-deserved happiness after so much suffering and loneliness.
Plot-wise, I’m pretty sure Clea didn’t murder Aggamon. It’s probably just a device to create conflict in their marriage, which was expected by the interviews and solicitations. My heart is at peace because I know Jed wouldn’t reunite Stephen and Clea just to split them afterwards.
There’s also Wong’s new role as an agent of W.A.N.D., and he does have his own unique style to reach out to others -- through peace and compassion as well. I confess I’m in love with Wong in this uniform and I’m just so excited to see more of him and Pandora. He’s finally his own character, having his own life and personality. And I couldn’t be more grateful.
Tumblr media
Looking forward to Nightmare and the mystery that surrounds Aggamon’s death. If DODS taught me anything, the culprit is closer than we suspect.
I’m also expecting some healing in the future issues. I know there was a tension between Stephen and Victor (a deserved one after DODS, if I may add) and an apology it’s out of question for a character like the king of Latveria, but a team-up would be nice to go past that. Also, Jed has been cooking Marc’s apologies for a while now (in both his MK’s run and DODS, as well as teased in the sneak peek). You know me, I’m always down to emotional bonding cause I’m hopeless 💜
Verdict: amazing issue! 10/10!

For anyone who didn't check the notes of my pandora post or go directly to the blog and wondering if I explained what trickery is afoot, the stone is an opalite which naturally has a glow to it when exposed to light, and is solid enough when away from light to look opaque. They do not though naturally grow that red tho, I achieved that by bonding red glass to the back of it.

What is your favorite DCMK crack theory?
Kaito's dad is Karasuma Renya, who already found Pandora and as a result de-aged when he 'died' 50+ years ago.
There's a surprising amount of evidence that lines up for it, but if it were to end up being true then that would end up greatly stunting Kaito's story if his emotional arc is intrinsically linked to Detective Conan's ending.
But may as well go over the evidence-
First of all the ties with crows. It's kinda obvious for both of them, but to summarize: the 'Karasu' in Karasuma is crow, the black organization he is the boss of is often likened to crows, and a his phone number plays the tune of 7 children (a song about crows) Meanwhile, Kuroba is 'black feathers' which crows have, and then there's the fact that Toichi is one of the most likely people to be Kaitou Corbeau (French for Crow) who while being a black Kaitou Kid also spreads Crow feathers around.
Second, I'm going to point back to Kaitou Corbeau for a sec. Sure we don't know that Corbeau is Kaitou's dad, but he's either his dad, his mom, or both; and I like those odds. So what do we know about the Black organization? They're associated with crows, they wear all black, they do crimes, and they use alcohols as codenames. Corbeau actually checks all of those boxes. Crows, Corbeau is french for crow, check. Black- Corbeau wears a Kid costume that's pure black, check. Crime, yeaah that one's a gimme. Alcohol name, there's actually a type of black wine called Corbeau.
Thirdly, Vermouth is the boss's favourite, and while that's probably because she's got her whole dealio about not aging in decades, if the Boss is Toichi then of course he favours his student over others.
Fourth, if this is the cases, it makes it more interesting that the MK and DC organizations are separate criminal groups with similar goals, because it means that the MK org were targeting the previous Kid not just because he was a pain in the ass but also because he was intimately involved with a rival group. It also explains why they haven't ever really targeted Kaito himself even though they were aware Toichi was Kid- They think that he didn't really care about his family.
Fifth, this one isn't evidence but it actually gives a good reason for why Kid cameo's in DC so often, and also would retroactively make the bit where Toichi as Kid declares young Shinichi to be his older brother while being as spooky as possible a much more interesting thing.
Of course all this has heavy implications that leads to heavy Kaito angst but.... what can I say, I like to torment characters a little bit.

So I know you have mostly male preds, but is there a hefty/voracious female pred you have?
For female predators explicitly? Quite a few. But see, unlike most folks who just want big, sexy anime girls with large breasts who make vore almost stereotypically pornographic, I like vore to feel like vore, regardless of the gender of the pred, and that means a domineering personality, and some canonical gluttony. For same size vore, I need the pred to be big, bulky, and generally, canonically capable to actually swallow someone whole. It's why I don't really do same size vore anymore unless the pred CAN canonically eat somebody at their regular size, and instead, do macro for most anime bois.
But anywho, onto the fun part below. These aren't my only favorite female characters for kink scenarios, just explicitly favorite female preds for vore only:
Orca (DC Comics): She's my number one pick for the same reason Killer Croc is. She just hits all of my buttons. She's big, beefy, canonically voracious, a canonical big eater, has smarts but sass, I find her look very appealing, and can see her in a number of different scenarios for stuffing, vore (both fatal and non-fatal), and everything in between. I love to envision her sitting on her thick rump while rubbing her massive, writhing belly, before her prey kicks hard enough to force out a GIANT, echoing belch from the whale woman. And then, Orca just grunts, chuckles and gives a mock apology for "being so unladylike." Then, she'd just smack her chest and knock loose an even bigger burp, giving Croc a run for her money, before sighing heavily and giving her fat belly a couple of resounding pats while it ripples beneath her palm with each one. She's also huge enough that she can lug her giant gut around, grinding it against a wall or floor and moaning with pleasure at the sensation and satisfaction of feeling her prey being tenderized by her gut.
Lady Dimitrescu (RE8): Cliche, I know, but honestly, Lady D is kinda perfect. She's huge, she's curvy, she's muscular, she has a domineering personality, she's utterly ruthless while also being classy, but also shows that she has a more depraved, uncaring side. And, of course, she's also VERY canonically voracious, and has devoured countless men over the past hundred years, and even threatens to swallow Ethan whole during her boss fight. I like to think that she could swallow Ethan, even in her beefy, curvy vampire-lady form without having to mutate into her Bloodborne Monster form. But unlike Orca, if Ethan's squirming forces her to belch loud enough to echo all throughout her castle, she'll cover her mouth in shock, and be utterly outraged by the filthy man-thing for daring to make her do something so uncouth. Like it's HIS fault. :P
Alice / B Rabbit (Pandora Hearts): Alice is a Chain, which essentially means they're predators by nature. Like Cheshire, she could canonically eat somebody due to her ravenous hunger. Only, instead of eating people like Cheshire and other Chains, Alice resorts to stuffing her face with more meat than humanly possibly possible. So, I can very easily see her giving in to her hunger against a real bastard and swallowing him whole, or even eating one of her friends to keep them safe from other enemy Chains. She's also incredibly loud, abrasive, cocky, and almost Tomboyish, which is my favorite kind of personality in female characters I'm most into. So I can easily see her freely burping loud enough to wake the dead and bragging about how huge that was. And if Gil gives her crap, she'd just burp in his face and grin cockily...before it devolves into their billionth argument of the week...
Mileena (MK): Baraka is one of my favorite preds in MK, so having female Baraka works for me, especially with her latest iteration, because she's so utterly voracious, teasing and downright wicked. I can picture her stuffing her face like a pig, messily devouring her victims, or swallowing them whole. And she'd be relentlessly teasing any prey she devoured, mocking them, slapping her belly and going out of her way to ensure that her prey is as miserable as possible. Every time she belches ferociously, she'd just swallow down more air to ensure that her prey doesn't lose consciousness, because she wants them to squirm and writhe through digestion.
Riptor (Killer Instinct): I didn't even realize Riptor was female until a few months ago, but...yeah, I dig that raptor for her FAT-ality alone. It was one of those defining moments of my youth, watching her sit with a balloon belly before burping that made me realize, "Oh nooooo...I like voooooare..." XD
Mirko (MHA): Mirko's a strange one, because her eating habits are never really talked about, far as I know. But her look and personality just hit EVERY button for me. She's a huge, muscular gal with curves and the most aggressive, Tomboyish personality I've seen in the entire series. So I can VERY easily see her having a massive appetite just because of how muscular she is and needing tons of calories to do so. But due to how utterly aggressive she is, I can also see her working for macro vore, having a strong enough stomach to store shrunken prey until she can let them loose in custody, and using her mighty legs to jet her way out from a villains lair. And due to her personality and loud, abrasive nature, I can easily see her being someone who freely and LOUDLY burps without a care in the world.
Toga (MHA): Her whole thing is that she has a very twisted view of love and connection. With her, it's all about blood. She wants to ingest the blood of everyone and everything she loves. I could very easily see that turning into her swallowing a shrunken victim she loves whole and digesting them so they can be together forever. Helps that, at least in the manga, she canonically lets out a big burp when that teleport happens for the first time. ;)
Lady Venom (Marvel Comics): So, admittedly, I know nothing about Lady Venom. But Venom's one of my favorite preds, so the image of him latching onto a woman host and making her every bit as voracious and snarky as Venom is just hits all the right buttons. I can even make them seeing jokes about how her prey is gonna make her lose her girlish figure as she talks to her giant writhing belly, before letting loose a colossal belch, then giggling and excusing herself with zero shame or embarrassment as she teasingly slaps her huge, jiggling gut. You can probably sense a pattern at this point with me. 'XD
I'm sure there are others, but off the top of my head, this is what comes to mind for female preds. I don't have nearly as much as I do male preds, but Orca ranks among some of my all time favorite preds period, so take that information how you will. ;)

Actually, just thinking about how long Magic Kaito has been running for, and when it started...
Kaitou Kid as we know him, with the gadgets and modus operandi that we're familiar with and the motivation we know him for having, don't even exist until YEARS after the first chapter was released. Two years after release, and he's still doing episodic heists that are cute, but don't... have any real intrinsic plot value. They're for the characters first, then the plot second. Some have never appeared in other media since, such as Clockwork Heart.
Blue Birthday, which is the original appearance of Pandora which will shape Kaito's entire trajectory... only first appeared in September 1993. Only somewhat less than a year before he'd start writing and publishing Detective Conan, and in fact I'd say it's likely he already had plans in mind at that point.
To take it further - there are only four chapters and six years between Blue Birthday and Black Star.
EDIT: Okay, yeah, it took SIX YEARS to get to the point in MK where Kaitou Kid gets the Pandora motivation, and the organisation he's after first appear.
If any of that is proven wrong in my reread, I'll adjust, but that's what I remember and what the wiki says.
