I just realized that Morgoth and Miriel were in the halls at the same time. And you can bet your ass Miriel spent 95% of the time tormenting him for all the shit he pulled.

Watching Rings of Power because ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. It is what it is. The girbossification of Galadriel was certainly a choice. As was coding the less-civilized Harfoots as Irish (just, why?).

Arondir x Bronwyn is wonderful and seeing the people of Mordor before it was Mordor is legit interesting. I'm also calling it that The Stranger that fell from the sky is Gandalf; it's all in the nose.

In sum: It sure would be nice to be rich enough to turn my LotR fanfic into a tv show.

Rating Silm deaths

Miriel: 9/10 - Not a fun way to die but at least the child she died giving birth to was a special snowflake and not an average joe.

Finwe: 3/10 - Pretty lame if you ask me but gets points for trying to be a good dad.

Feanor: 11/10 - Spontaneously combusting sure sounds interesting. Athough it was stupid, I admire his bravery for fighting all those balrogs alone.

Elenwe: 6/10 - Poor thing. She was so brave going to middle earth with a bunch of crazy Noldor. The fanart of her death looks awesome though.

Argon: 7.5/10 - It’s said he killed an Orc Captain in the battle he was slain which seems pretty badass.

Fingolfin: 10/10 - Actually accomplished something by dying. Gets full points for his heroic sacrifice.

Angrod & Aegnor: 5/10 - I’m sorry my sweet summer children. You deserved so much better. Your deaths were unfortunately little more than footnotes though.

Aredhel: 7/10 - Took a Javelin to the shoulder to protect her son but I don’t see why she couldn’t have pulled both herself and her son out of the way.

Fingon: 8/10 - I cried like a b*tch when he died. His death sounded so painful, being held by a whip while being slaughtered by Gothmog.

Turgon: 2/10 - He got played like a fiddle by Maeglin.

Maeglin: 1/10 - Pfft. Lame. Imagine getting defeated and thrown off a wall by human with less than half your experience.

Glorfindel: 4/10 - Sorry dude. Your death wasn’t that cool. A million dudes guys died fighting balrogs and you weren’t the first to do it either.

Ecthelion: 15/10 - What a way to go out my guy. Imagine killing the dude who killed badasses like Fingon & Feanor. Wouldn’t have expected it from a happy little musician.

Finrod: 11/10 - Lmho. He went feral. Fighting a werewolf while naked and weaponless is sure something.

Celegorm: 1/10 - Turko, I love you but what a lame way to go out. A little baby half elf who might have been biologically full human completely owned you.

Caranthir & Curufin: ?/10 - We literally get no info on their deaths except that they died in a kinslaying.

Amrod & Amras: ?/10 - Same as Caranthir and Curufin.

Maedhros: 9/10 - I’m definitely not pro-suicide but his death just feels so right. Refusing to let go of the Silmaril despite the pain it’s causing him. A very fiery end for the hottest Feanorian.

Celebrimbor: 8.5/10 - It was brutal but it was far from boring.

Gil-Galad: 8/10 - I’d say it was pretty hot.

Celegorm's relationships with his family are complex. He is much like his father, in his quick intellect, his love for the world outside Tirion, his fiery spirit, and his oratorical skills, and Feanor holds him close to his heart for those reasons and because he looks like Miriel. They diverge, however, on issues of faith, and in fact his deep connection to Orome is a wedge between him and the rest of the family that only grows wider with time. Nerdanel understands the drive to worship and his loyalty to Orome, but by the time it becomes a truly divisive issue she is gone from the home and he is alone in his resistance to Feanor's heresy. It's always a fight waiting to start, after that.

Celegorm allows himself to be led by Maedhros (and to a certain extent Maglor), but it is very much a permission given by him to them, not an innate respect for the family hierarchy (and it collapses under the pressure of the Oath). He hovers protectively over Curufin and the twins: the twins because they have the same wildness that he does, and Curvo because of the resemblance to their father. Because he spends so much time with Curufin, people think of him in comparision as the big, dumb one, but he is in fact quite canny and curious and cultivates a semi-feral reputation to mask his maneuvering mind. It's a game that he and Curufin play with increasingly bitter enjoyment in Nargothrond.

I like to think that he has an oddly comfortable relationship with Caranthir, especially in Beleriand: they are so different that they don't trouble each other, and Celegorm retreats occasionally to the orderliness of Thargelion when he needs structure and comfort. Caranthir finds him strangely comfortable to have around, and it's only because Celegorm asks that he agrees to join the attack on Doriath. He doesn't want Celegorm, of whom he is secretly extremely fond, to die alone.

While I slog through a fic I actually really want to tell (the joys of writing!) I decided to talk about that Feanor as Melkor's son AU I mentioned in my tags

So far I have three possibilities, from least realized to most:

Feanor as Melkor and Mairon bio baby, so far I don't really have much for this one, the Valar find baby Feanor after Melkor's imprisonment (haven't decided why Mairon wouldn't have escaped with the baby) and give him to Finwe to raise (I hadn't realized it doesn't makes sense for Miriel to die in this one until now, so either she doesn't and it's full throwing away canon or in this one she doesn't exist and Finwe just didn't want to tell Feanor who his real parents were, it's both sad and funny)

Baby Feanor kidnap adopted by Melkor, the timeline is bothering me here, maybe Feanor is born before Melkor's imprisonment? Or he leaves imprisonment way before the original? I mostly wanted this to be funny about Melkor and Mairon getting so attached and wanting so bad to be good parents to feral child Feanor that they actually get redeemed (although dark!Feanor x Nerdanel is very intriguing)

And the one I (unfortunately) have the most on (as of right now) is Feanor as Melkor... and Miriel's son, I jokingly thought about this one but alas it got bigger than I expected, so: Melkor decides to go mess with the elves only to find Miriel collecting bugs (they're silk worms, weird bug girl Miriel for the win!) and he gets actually quite impressed with her desire to not settle with the world and wanting to make it prettier with fabrics, they fall in love (or as much in love Melkor can be, so far he is more like canon evil Melkor than the softer one of the other two ideas) but when she finds out who he is, she runs away and falls for Finwe instead.

Finwe is then totally cool with raising Miriel's child because he loves her so much but Miriel keeps feeling she's awful for her previous love for Melkor, combined with the power required to sustain a half-ainur child, and ends up dying.

Finwe of course, absolutely adores little Feanor despite not being his bio dad, and thus names him Finwion (later Curufinwe), but raising a half-ainur child is not easy, especially when you can't actually ask anyone for help without revealing the truth, so Finwe just has to deal with eldritch child Feanor, alone.

(like, one time there's a teacher Feanor hates because he heard the teacher say that Feanor killed Miriel, so Feanor gives the teacher a bracelet he doesn't even understand how he made cursed, the teacher then complains to Finwe, who is just trying to understand how to explain to his son that he can't do that, also he fires the teacher)

Then it's basically the same as canon up until Melkor return, because instead of trying to create discord he arrives and realizes Feanor's his son and tries to pull a Darth Vader and convince Feanor to join him.

Feanor is, of course, against the idea but Melkor is convinced that if he reveals Feanor's true parentage in the upcoming festival then the uproar and hate will cause Feanor to be more willing.

Only, right before he can make his announcement Feanor shows up wearing the silmarils (Melkor decides to rename him Lightbringer but I haven't figured out what that is in Quenya) and instead of going along with Melkor, Feanor

Bows. to. MANWE!!!!!

And does a whole speech about Melkor trying to deceive him by claiming he isn't Finwe's son (Feanor already realized the truth, he's just rejecting it) and doing a whole spectacle of proof

The Finwe family isn't stupid and to Feanor's surprise, the first person to join his show is INDIS!!! Joined then (in order) by Nolo, Nerdanel, and Maglor (if it was political it would be Maedhros but it's a performance remember)

Manwe isn't stupid and understands what they are doing so when Melkor tries to say that it's all Finwe's lie he just tells Melkor that it was clear that Feanor was Finwe's son

Melkor storms out (he still plans to destroy the trees but his objective is Feanor instead of just the silmarils) and the Finweans leave too

Feanor has a cathartic talk and cry with his dad while the rest of the family discuss what this means for them all, Feanor is now more open to his half-family and his relation to the other Valas is totally different, and how that could end up having happier ending to the story.

And that's how much I have of this one, it compels me but it's the only one that I have no idea of how to add Melkor x Mairon and the original idea was about THEM as parents whereas this one is about the original Finweans in a different situation so I'm conflicted

Oh man... I love zombie apocalypse talk... and combining it with Yandere's??? Heaven.

Anyway time for zombie apocalypse headcanons, thank you for summoning this into my brain.

Nora is a beast. An absaloute fucking beast. She takes on 50 zombies at once and walks out fine. The stress of the apocalypse brings out her true nature, maybe darling gets bitten so she ties you up in rope and chains so she can keep you forever - zombie or not.

Miriel is dying. I'm sorry Miri but I don't think she'd have it in her. 2 weeks tops before she gets bitten. The infection probably takes an agonisingly long time to take over though if she's surrounded by nature. Maybe if you bury her in the forest she'll be purified. Or she'll just come back stronger.

Runa is lasting a somewhat long time but will probably get bit and turn from doing something stupid. Her tantrums would probably attract zombies all the time as well.

Eliza is dying. Not because she gets bit, but because she kept eating zombies and infected herself that way. Zombie Eliza chasing you down in wolf form would be terrifying.

Sawyer is. Y'know. Sawyer. But if we wanna have fun with it, she'd probably end up making a safe haven for survivors to take refuge in, basically a sequel to the city.

Kassien is wooping so much ass. Imagine her in her binder caving zombies heads in, dripping with sweat as she protects you. Mmf.

Idek what Nikki would do. She's a wildcard.

Theanna has a castle to hole up in and an army to defend her. She's keeping you safe no matter what, if anything happens to her queen, everyone taking refuge in the castle will be cast out.

Abigail is obviously never getting bit. She's too badass for that. Don't worry my lady, I'll deal with all the blood and guts so you can stay nice and pretty <3

Pauline is gonna get bitten I fear. She's going to make a blunder and realise she's going to turn, she begs you to stay with her until the end, all of her fake cruelty dissapears in her final days. She just wants you to be with her, even as she begins to crave that delicious flesh on your neck.

Raphael is going to do the same thing as Eliza and infect herself. I can see her locking darling away in a sealed room to keep you safe, she knows she will crave your flesh when she turns, so you have to stay in here, forever and always. If you ask her why SHE doesn't lock herself away, it's because she's too scared of you being eaten by someone else. It has to be her.

Elisha is obviously kicking so much ass it's not even funny. Zombies are nothing compared to dragons, so why not throw a little spice into the mix - her darling gets bitten and she's in total denial. Every day you turn a little more and beg her to kill you but she refuses, saying she will find you a cure to turn you back. She WILL save you no matter what it takes.

Veronia I wanna have fun with. Obviously she's not going to get infected, she has scales. BUT. Imagine if she did. A terrifying zombie dragon hunting you down because you smell so much better than all the others, and you would make the most divine meal. (I like to think dragons are so powerful they retain most of their intelligence after turning, as opposed to dumb dumb humans)

Ainsley started the apocalypse, let's be real here.

Skye is dying. I'm sorry but she lasts 4 days at the most, oddly enough however, she's more docile than most zombies.

Darla is leading a scavengers group. She starts up her own little paradise and boasts having full control. Queen bee of the apocalypse.

Sophie is going to be Darla's second in command. Basically her enforcer, bashing in zombie heads and making sure everyone in the settlement is well behaved. I like to think her and Darla share a darling, who's some scared ill-prepared survivor who just so happened to stumble upon their settlement. "You can never leave us dolly, I've seen what they do to pretty girls like you out there."

Ella is also getting turned, but whereas zombie Skye is docile, zombie Ella is feral. She already liked biting now it's her full time job.

The only thing I would change is I think Miriel would get close to the forest instantly and if you got bit she would be able to naturally purify herself with the elf stuff.

“Hold on,” I say, and I hold my camera to my chest as I go to the hut myself, all the while wondering why I insist on doing things for pretty girls. It made me feel like a boy. Or like a rough maid from a period drama doing stuff for her delicate ladies.

And she still didn’t know why. How had she told Beast Boy when she hadn’t even told Kori? She guessed she felt he was safe. Kori might try to set her up with Gar if she knew; it wouldn’t take her long to figure out who her crush was. But Beast Boy was detached from her world—he went to her school, but he couldn’t let her know that.

She tilted her head up to kiss him, and the whole world fell into place. To come back into his arms after a long time was a feeling she wouldn’t trade for anything.

Gar looked back and forth between the faces in the car windows. “Jen?” He turned to Terra, whose face turned from anger to panic when he did.

“You haven’t figured it out yet, slug-face?” taunted Mikron. “Are we gonna have to spell it out for you?”

“Figure out what?” Gar returned. “That you’re Hive? We knew that for ages.”

“Do you wanna tell him?” Baran asked Terra. He was clearly having the time of his life.

Finwe: You probably liked the Hobbit movies for the love triangle they put Legolas, Kili and Tauriel in. Out of all the characters, the Finwe lovers are the most likely to be parents themselves, especially parents of troubled children.

Miriel: Are you sure your favorite character isn’t Feanor? You might have some familial trauma, too.

I joined @mopomoko 's now-ongoing Waterdeep: Dragon Heist campaign back in the thick of 2020 and found stability, support, and a story I could really sink my teeth into. Your mothers swap AU has lived rent free in my head since I read it, I can’t stop thinking about it, and your additional thoughts are so delicious! I admit, I assumed Feanor wouldn’t instantly collapse - and if the Valar would still ask him to break the gems, even if it’s much more obvious that this would kill him, and Fingolfins reaction to THAT. And protagonist!Fingolfin in Beleriand - given the way you’ve set him up, my thinking leans towards him being very much “we must all - noldor, sindar, everyone - work extremely closely together to defeat Morgoth. Under me. Clearly. I’m objectively the best person for this job.” Highly proactive, paternalistic, High King of Beleriand.

Yes, I, too, am still thinking with slightly feral fondness about Arakáno son of Miriel, undisputed Prince of Tirion, calm and mature and at all times 2 seconds away from throwing a temper tantrum about how his terrible unwanted half-siblings are touching his stuff!*

I do think Curufinwë collapses immediately - not into comatoseness, but the shock of the passing Unlight hits him hard, as does the (they don't realize it yet but) loss of Finwë, as does the fact that the Silmarils have passed out of his possession. That matters, because, well, fairy tale logic.

So Fëanor is sitting on the ground, pale and leaning against Nerdanel, when Yavanna returns from her inspection of the broken Trees to declare, "The Light of the Trees has passed away, and lives now only in the Silmarils of Curufinwë. Foresighted was he! Even for those who are mightiest under Iluvatar there is some work that they may accomplish once, and once only. The Light of the Trees I brought into being, and within Ea I can do so never again. Yet had I but a little of that light I could recall life to the Trees, ere their roots decay; and then our hurt should be healed, and the malice of Melkor be confounded."

Nerdanel: Now wait a m— Arakáno, stalking forward to stand between them and the Valar, reaching for a sword he didn't bring: [Hamilton "Cabinet Battle 2" voice] You must be out of your Eru-damned mind—

After that...the Oath, differently worded to be a little less Silmaril-centric, maybe mentioned justice for Finwë or claiming a right to independence from the Valar, would be a very politically savvy move, as well as genuinely impassioned. Make Curufinwë a martyr for Arakáno's own movement! I think the children of both join it, though Arafinwë's don't. I don't think there's as much argument in the Great Square. Curufinwë wants the Silmarils back, too.

Possibly Curufinwë himself is convinced to stay behind? (He's not going to make it long no matter what, the question is when most impactful to remove him from the story.) If so, perhaps Ambarussa don't swear the Oath, and instead stay with him and Nerdanel.

But I also like...

I think we could get Arakáno killed if, in addition to Finwë's bloody death and Curufinwë's approaching Miriel-style death... He's going to send the ships back for the rest of them, he is. But he's going to establish a solid position first, which means killing these orcs, making contact with the locals, the Dagor-nuin-Giliath (Battle-under-Stars)...

...in which Argon falls.

Then Morgoth sends an invitation to parley, and Arakáno nearly dismisses it out of hand - but Findekáno convinces him that someone should go to hear what lies the enemy offers. With more warriors than promised, obviously, to wait in hiding in case they're needed...

…and Findekáno doesn't return.

Except, they can see him hanging on the mountain peak, when now and then the smoke around Thangorodrim clears.

That, I think, would combine to reach the famous Nolofinwë Suicidal-But-Taking-You-With-Me Despair-Rage Breaking Point.

Turukáno doesn't send the ships back. Turukáno is now barely holding his people, barely holding himself together, even with Elenwë ably overseeing the building of a sturdy camp and Irissë running patrols. The world is dark, the land is full of monsters, and the best thing Turukáno, Regent-King, can do is keep everyone he can where he can see them. (It's probably better that the others don't come to this cursed place anyway. They'll turn back, surely; Arafinwë already did it - even for his cousins, the Doom pounding in one ear must negate the Oath pounding in the other.)
