Weilan WIP (almost) Wednesday?
The doors to the lecture hall fly open. A few of his students yelp in surprise.
Shen Wei is on edge immediately. He turns towards the door quickly, dark energy already swirling in his hand hidden behind his desk. It dissipates immediately when he sees it’s no other than his own bewildered husband who burst into his classroom so rudely. It doesn’t lessen the anxious pressure in his chest, though. If anything, he’s even more worried now.
Zhao Yunlan looks more put together than he has in days, as he has been hunched over his desk 24/7 trying to solve a case. His hair is still a mess but he has changed out of his pyjamas and seems to have even washed his face. There’s a confident, cocky grin on his face as he puts his hands in his pockets. “I’m sorry for interrupting class,” he apologises, “I need to borrow your professor for a moment, it’s an emergency. It will only take a moment, I promise.”
A few of his students giggle and start whispering to each other. Shen Wei just ignores it, interacting will only make it worse. So, he just straightens his jacket and clears his throat. Then he nods curtly to Zhao Yunlan that he will follow him outside and gives the class a short instruction to keep them busy while he is gone.
Once out of the room, he immediately checks Zhao Yunlan for any sign of injury. “Zhao Yunlan what’s going on? Are you okay?”
Zhao Yunlan sighs deeply, as if there’s something heavy weighing him down. He reaches out and adjusts Shen Wei’s tie, patting down his chest before finally speaking. “I think you forgot something very important when you left for work this morning.”
He forgot something? That doesn’t sound right. Did he have essays to return to students? No, that’s for next week. Did he forget his notebook? No, he always leaves that in his office. What could he have possibly forgotten that is so important for Zhao Yunlan to rush over like this?
Zhao Yunlan pats him on the chest one last time before grabbing his tie and pulling Shen Wei closer. He presses a firm kiss to his lips.
“Zhao Yunlan,” Shen Wei sputters, utterly scandalised as he tries to make sense of what just happened. He quickly adjusts his tie again as he looks around to see if there was anyone around who could have seen them. Only Zhao Yunlan would dare to be so utterly shameless in the middle of Shen Wei’s workplace.
“Don’t you dare leave for work ever again without that,” Zhao Yunlan warns before turning around with a proud grin and sauntering off.

A day in the life of Pangzi, a half orc who has a farm in the mountains.
The sky is only barely tinted a soft pink when Pangzi steps out of his cabin. The sun still has a long way to go before it peaks out from behind the mountain tops. It’s a sight that greets him every morning, but it never fails to take his breath away.
As always, he takes a moment to appreciate the view. He takes a deep breath, letting the cold morning air fill his lungs and clear his head. Only when he feels fully awake he finally steps down into the soft, wet grass and makes his way towards the barn.
Just like every other day, his bison are already eagerly waiting at the fence to greet him. He gently pets as many of them as he can as he passes them by. Most of them are satisfied by a gentle pat on the nose, while some of the younger ones follow him until the fence stops them. Pangzi gives them one last scratch on their heads as a goodbye and then steps into the barn.
He barely gets to crack open the barn door before Lingling is crawling up his side already. He scoops him up quickly and sets him on his shoulder, where he curls up happily, his head tucked under Pangzi’s chin.
“Clingy creature,” he chuckles fondly.
After getting saved from a poacher, the poor hurt pangolin was left on Pangzi’s doorstep by a kind soul and hasn’t left his side since. He tried to release him back into the wild once he was fully healed and ready to fend for himself again, but each and every time Lingling would find his way back to Pangzi, no matter what Pangzi tried. Eventually he had to give up and allow the creature to stay. Not that he wanted him to go, he had long gotten attached to him when he first tried to release him.
With Lingling heavily but happily settled on Pangzi’s shoulder, Pangzi carefully checks up on his sheep and goats before releasing them into the meadow. The sheep need to be sheared soon. He cannot wait, he’s running out of yarn and he really needs some new socks.
With a soft hum he continues his rounds on the farm.
He doesn’t know why he’s surprised when he finds the chickens out of their coop and fed already. A basket full of freshly collected eggs is placed ready for Pangzi to pick up and take inside. He hasn’t collected a single egg himself in ages, not that he would ever complain about it. It’s nice to finally have some help on the farm, it was long overdue.
When he passes the barn to make his way into the fields, he carefully peels Lingling from his shoulder and puts the sleeping creature back in his burrow. He lets out a small, pitiful sound as Pangzi sets him down but he quickly shuffles deeper into his burrow and goes to sleep for the day.
His next harvest seems to be doing well too, it’s looking like another big one. He cannot help but smile as he thinks about how much he will be able to bring down to the village. They might not appreciate it, but he knows they need it and he likes helping.
He still has to bring a share of the early harvest down. He only just finished sorting and rationing all of it.
One batch of produce is already carefully wrapped up in a piece of cloth. From what’s left, he picks out the best and carefully puts it at the bottom of his basket. Then he puts a divider in so the rest doesn’t touch it and carefully fills up the rest of the basket.
On his way down the mountain he makes a small detour. He makes his way higher up first to leave the small cloth wrapping in a tree hollow at the edge of the woods.
The closer he gets to the village, the more his heart starts racing. Not because he is afraid. He won’t go far enough into town to get any of the villagers after him. Or he shouldn’t at least.
With shaking hands he carefully knocks on the door of her house. He really hopes she’s home. She wasn’t home last time and he’s been wondering how she and Xiao Mei have been. Last time they spoke Xiao Mei was ill. He has seen her running in the fields, so Pangzi knows she’s doing better, but that doesn’t stop him from worrying.
“Pangzi! I hadn’t expected you for another week or two,” Piaopiao smiles warmly as she opens the door. “Let me get your basket, I noticed the shoulder straps were getting old so I put some new ones on!”
He’s at a loss for words immediately. He barely manages to get her name over his lips as a greeting. He always thinks he’s getting better at talking to her, but then she smiles and he cannot help but stumble over his words. She’s patient with him as always, which only makes him more nervous. She’s so kind and it only makes her more beautiful to him.
“Early harvest,” Pangzi mumbles eventually, stumbling over his words immensely. “I’ll have more in a few weeks.”
He takes the basket from his back and puts it on the ground for her to see what he brought. That’s when he feels the first thud against his back. He doesn’t think much of it and proudly shows her some of his produce.
“You have more coming, really?” Piaopiao asks in surprise as she sees how much he brought. “I can feed the whole town with this! Are you sure you aren’t overworking yourself? Are you keeping enough for yourself?”
Pangzi shakes his head, his cheeks warm. “I have help, don’t worry about me.” He scratches the back of his neck and that’s when he feels the next hit. It’s sharp and hard and quickly followed by another one hitting him in the head.
“Get away from her you monster! Leave her alone!” A voice screams from behind him as he gets hit in the head again and again. Rocks. Someone was throwing rocks at him.
Instinctively Pangzi hunches down, which doesn’t change much, he’s still bigger than the average adult human. He’s too big to miss even when he makes himself as small as he can be.
Pangzi looks over his shoulder to see the culprit. When he sees it’s just a young child, his heart sinks more than it usually does. Is he really that terrifying? Do they hate him so much that even their children get poisoned against him from early on?
He feels rage bubble up in his chest but he presses it down. No matter how much he would like to give this child a piece of mind, he can’t. Piaopiao wouldn’t want him to and it would just make things so much worse. As long as he keeps to himself the villagers tend to leave him alone. If he were to even raise his voice at this child… Every village in the vicinity of the mountain would probably rise up against him.
“Get away from her! Don’t hurt her! Don’t worry, ayi, I won’t let him hurt you,” the child screams. He swings a small wooden sword in the air before throwing another sharp rock at Pangzi’s head.
Pangzi has no other option than to look at Piaopiao for help. She just looks back at him, her eyes full of pity. Pangzi can feel his heart sink in his chest. He knows it’s safer for the both of them if she doesn’t interfere, but still…
“I think it’s better if you return home,” she says quietly. “Thank you for sharing your harvest with us again, I will make sure it goes to the people who need it most.”
Biting the inside of his cheek hard, Pangzi lowers his head and nods. “I added extra berries for Xiao Mei,” he whispers, “I’ll see you in a few weeks then.” He grabs his basket, the straps looking newer than they ever had, and walks away.
The kid continues his assault as Pangzi makes his way out of the village. Several others joini him even, following to the edge of town. “That’s right, coward. Run away and stay away! We don’t want your kind here!”
He knows…

“The only thing is, why is there only one bed?” Wu Xie notes with a playful frown as he points at their new bed. “How do we sleep this way? You’re too big for the couch.”
“This bed is for both of us!” Pangzi replies, trying to hold back a grin at Wu Xie’s childish antics.
Before he knows it, Wu Xie is throwing himself on the bed. “What do you mean, both of us?” He sits up straight and holds up a hand to shush Pangzi and his complaints. “Whoever sits on it first gets the bed. Now it’s mine.”
He looked incredibly proud of his childish solution to their ‘problem’. Pangzi laughs and shakes his head.
“Who made up those rules? Don’t we always split things evenly?” Then just as childish, Pangzi adds, “Actually, I should take two-thirds based on my size.”
Sadly, Wu Xie was prepared for this silly argument. Of course he was, there’s nobody in the world better at coming up with petty arguments than Wu Xie.
“Exactly!” Wu Xie agrees at first. “Because of your size, neither of us can be comfortable here, right? So if you sleep on the couch and I sleep here…”
“You want to be comfortable?” Pangzi grins mischievously.
Wu Xie nods proudly, certain he has won.
“Well then, Tianzhen. You should cherish the time we have together. Who knows when I’ll move out!”
“Move out?” Wu Xie asks, clearly confused. There was a pleading look in his eyes for a moment, sad at the mere thought of one day being separated from Pangzi.
In his confusion, Pangzi takes his chance and launches himself at him.
A smile instantly appears on Wu Xie’s face again as he shakes his head and tries to hold Pangzi off. “No! Pangzi! I told you, whoever sits on it first gets it!”
But Pangzi easily pushes him onto his back on the bed and straddles his waist. He grips Wu Xie’s wrists and presses them down against the mattress, completely immobilising Wu Xie.
Wu Xie squirms a bit under him, only stopping once Pangzi’s hands slide up and intertwines their fingers together. He bites his lip harshly when Pangzi leans down close with a grin and asks, “What was that again? Whoever sits on it first gets it?” Then Pangzi rolls his hips against Wu Xie’s. Wu Xie instantly starts squirming under him again, hips pressing back urgently. “Well I sat on this first, does that mean I get it?”
He evades Wu Xie’s attempt to kiss him easily, urging him for an answer with a stern but playful look and another roll of his hips.
Wu Xie lets his head fall back against the mattress and moans softly, both in arousal and despair from being denied a kiss. He nods decisively, though. “Yeah… Yes, you get it, Pangzi, it’s all yours.”
“All mine?” Pangzi repeats.
“I always have been,” Wu Xie replies softly.
Pangzi’s eyes soften immediately as he breathes in slowly, as if this information is news to him.
Deftly, Wu Xie slips his hands out of Pangzi’s grip. He reaches up to cup his cheeks, fingers itching to curl into his neatly coiffed hair. Then he repeats himself, pressing the words into Pangzi’s skin with a kiss. Hoping he’ll believe it this time and will never forget.

“Tianzhen?” Pangzi calls out as he arrives home.
No answer.
He throws his keys in the bowl near the door and toes off his shoes to replace them with his slippers. Then he calls out again.
The lights are on everywhere, yet Wu Xie is nowhere to be found. Typical. He switches off the lights as he makes his way through wushanju.
“Tianzhen, are you home?”
Still, no answer. Maybe he went out and forgot to tell Pangzi. That happens often enough. Sometimes Pangzi wonders if he should start calling him scatterbrain, but madaha doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as Tianzhen.
He calls out one last time. Immediately after, someone pads down the hallway heavily, walking straight into Pangzi’s side.
Some kind of liquid spills on Pangzi’s feet as arms wrap around him.
“Pangzi,” Wu Xie slurs as he presses his face into Pangzi’s arm, “Pangzi, you’re finally home. I missed you.”
Beer. Wu Xie spilled beer on him. Looking at the state of him, the beer he’s currently holding definitely isn’t his first of the night.
Pangzi wrenches his arms out of Wu Xie’s hold, spilling more beer in the process. He wraps an arm around Wu Xie’s waist before he carefully takes the bottle out of Wu Xie’s hands with the other one and places it on the nearest surface.
“I was only gone for a few hours, Tianzhen, did you really miss me this much?”
Wu Xie presses himself closer to him. He presses his face into Pangzi’s chest, squeezing him as tight as he can get. Then he nods.
“I had nobody to drink with,” Wu Xie murmurs. Then he holds up the hand he was holding the beer with earlier, slightly confused when he finds it empty. He pulls up his other hand, finding it empty too. He frowns at Pangzi before shrugging and wrapping his arms around Pangzi again.
He pats Pangzi’s chest to get his attention as he says, “Pangzi, Wang Pangzi. My best friend. My best friend, Wang Pangzi.” He presses his face against Pangzi’s chest and takes a deep breath. When he looks up again, his eyes are wet. “Do you know you’re the only one who has never left my side?”
“Tianzhen,” Pangzi tries to stop him. He can already feel his throat go tight as he swallows his tears away.
Wu Xie just shakes his head and continues, “You always support everything I do. You never gave up on me, never left, even when…”
He doesn’t have to say it, Pangzi knows exactly what Wu Xie means. They never talked about it, but he knows Wu Xie is sorry for the things he said and that he didn’t mean it.
“You are the most important person in my life,” Wu Xie confesses, “you can’t ever leave me.”
He won’t. There’s no way he will ever leave Wu Xie’s side, the only thing strong enough to tear Pangzi away from him is death. As long as Wu Xie will have him, he will accompany him.
“I won’t, ever,” Pangzi promises , like he promised him a decade ago.
“Prove it,” Wu Xie says, as if Pangzi hasn’t proven it over and over again. “Marry me.”
Oh, we’re here again. Pangzi chuckles warmly as he recalls a similar moment ten years ago. A drunk Wu Xie confessing his love to him, proposing to him on the spot.
“I already have, Tianzhen.”
He pushes Wu Xie’s fringe out of his eyes, uncovering a confused gaze.
Wu Xie whines as Pangzi lets go of him for a moment to reach for his wallet. He pulls out a crumpled, dirtied napkin with some words scribbled onto it.
“Look.”
He shows Wu Xie the words on the napkin. He shows him the promises he made a decade ago, to stay by his side, to love him like a husband loves his wife, to take care of him and support him. Most importantly, the promise to legally marry Wu Xie as soon as it is possible for them, with at the bottom both their signatures.
Wu Xie takes the napkin out of Pangzi’s hands carefully as he reads it over and over again. He sniffs loudly as a few tears roll down his cheek.
Of course he doesn’t remember. Back then Wu Xie was just as drunk as he is today. That explains why Wu Xie always brushed it aside when Pangzi brought it up. But that’s all right, when they make it official some day, Wu Xie will remember.
“Did I do as I promised back then?” Pangzi asks carefully.
Wu Xie nods as he wipes away his tears and puts the napkin aside carefully. He hugs Pangzi tightly again as he keeps nodding.
When he pulls away, he smiles at Pangzi and decides, “We should renew our vows.”
Pangzi chuckles warmly as he nods. “You’re right, Tianzhen, we should.”
The way Wu Xie smiles at him then and there brings him back to the old days. To when he still really was just a naive boy.
Pangzi can’t help himself, he brushes the hair that had already fallen back into Wu Xie’s eyes aside once again and presses a kiss to his forehead.
When he looks down at Wu Xie again, he falls in love with him all over again. He’s staring up at him, cheeks warm and eyes bright and warm.
The stars in Wu Xie’s eyes put even the most beautiful night sky to shame. Pangzi praises himself lucky every single day that he gets to stare into them every single day.
“Sit down, Tianzhen, I’ll go get us a proper piece of paper and a pen,” he whispers.
Neither of them moves. Pangzi traces his thumb over Wu Xie’s face, over his cheekbones, down to the curve of his bottom lip. He resists the urge to kiss him again, even though it’s difficult when Wu Xie tilts his face further up, mouth slightly falling open.
“Let’s get married again, Tianzhen.”
Pangzi helps him to the couch, ignoring his pout as he leaves him there to grab a sheet of paper and a pen.
The paper gets snatched out of his hands as soon as it’s within Wu Xie’s reach, who sloppily tears it in half and hands one half of the paper to Pangzi.
“Write one for me, I write yours,” Wu Xie says and eagerly starts scribbling onto his paper. His handwriting is even more illegible than usual and the lines are wonky, but Pangzi doesn’t doubt his words are genuine and straight from the heart, even in this state.
As his chest fills with warmth, Pangzi starts writing on his own piece of paper. His wishes are simple but all he ever wants from this. To be by Wu Xie’s side, to take care of him for the rest of their lives.
When he looks up, he finds Wu Xie asleep on the paper, his pen still trailing over the paper in memory of the words he was writing.
Pangzi writes his name on his own paper and gently takes Wu Xie’s from where it’s trapped under his cheek and threatening to be drooled on. He writes his name on that one too and then pulls out his seal. He presses a stamp on both papers without even reading what Wu Xie wrote. Whatever he wants, Pangzi will give it to him.
When Pangzi wakes up the next morning, Wu Xie is already out and about. The bed Pangzi tucked him into last night long cold already.
The two sheets of paper and the napkin are still on the coffee table. The only thing different from last night is that there are now two red stamps decorating each of them. One reading Wang, the other Wu.
A little something @englishbunnyrocks made me write ♥
