Following their encounter with the Mist Fairy, Pangzi pays Xiao Hua a visit.
Xiao Hua looks tired, but he’s making every effort not to appear so. His shirt is unbuttoned at the collar and he’s sipping something that no doubt costs more than what Pangzi’s shop brings in in a month. But there’s no denying the tightness around his eyes that he’s hiding behind a soft smile as he leans forward to pour Pangzi a drink. It’s almost disappointing. Aren’t they beyond putting fronts on around each other at this point?
“I thought you’d be here sooner than this.” Xiao Hua glances at his watch and holds out the glass to Pangzi with an unimpressed smile. “I was about to give up and go to bed.”
If Xiao Hua wants to pretend that this is some sort of business meeting that Pangzi is late to then that’s fine. He thought they were past this. They should be past this.
“No you weren’t,” Pangzi says, accepting the glass with a bright smile. If he has to get through those walls again then that’s what he’ll do.
Pangzi is more of a beer man and whatever Xiao Hua has poured for him is definitely not something his simple tastes will fully appreciate.
He drinks it anyway.
It’s cool and sharp, with a slightly floral undertone which suits the man who poured it perfectly.
“I suppose you’re here because of the whole,” Xiao Hua waves his hand in a way that Pangzi assumes is supposed to encompass ‘pulled you out of retirement and sent you off to pay off my family’s debt on my behalf and almost got you all killed in the process’.

wait can we talk about how much pangzi and xiao hua have in common and how similar they are even though they so obviously come from very different backgrounds.
on the first hand it might look like they have just their connection to wu xie in common but if you really think about it...
i mean just to say something; look at their past. they both lost their families at a young age and stayed behind alone with a family business to tend to.
they're both so very full of kindness and care about people so deeply but can't really show it? xiao hua's mask here is way more obvious than pangzi's but it's still there.
they can be ruthless and scary. ready to do what is necessary to protect themselves but will especially go the extra mile for their loved ones...
they both fear not being good enough. being left behind again.

I cheated a bit linking two for most hits because I don't often write chaptered fics and of course the one with 12 chapters will most likely have the most hits.
Most hits: Otome Gay Man wakes up after surgery and hits on his husband - Two Nielan fics near to my heart. Glad they were so popular, I loved writing them so much. Otome Gay: Nie Mingjue tries his brother's video game, falls for Lan Xichen both in and outside of the game. The title of the other explains itself.
Second most kudos: How to get Wei Ying to behave - Wangxian, not surprising it got this spot. Lan Wangji figures out how to get Wei Wuxian to behave/shut up.
Third most bookmarks: Otome Gay
Fourth most comments: I see gold at the edge of the sun - absolute beloved panghua fic that i will never stop saying didn't get enough love. Pangzi gets himself in trouble and refuses to let anyone help him. Xiao Hua doesn't need permission.
Fifth most words: Something to protect - Unfinished Nie Mingjue/Nielan kid fic. Had big ideas for this one. Could have been way longer.
