"Pick a star on the dark horizon and follow the light. You'll come back when it's over. No need to say goodbye." The Call by Regina Spektor
Fanart for @telemna-hyelle 's fic What You Look At, You Change. Extras and ramblings under the cut!
Aaaa I finally finished this!! According to Ibis paint this took Eight Hours not including the original sketch. But! I had so much fun making it that it didn't really feel that long :)
So first of all, flower symbolism. We've got white and yellow chrysanthemums and white calla lilies. Yellow chrysanthemums represent joy and celebration, so they're here to represent the wedding. White chrysanthemums represent grief and mourning, symbolizing Dot and Four's grief over losing their kids and vice versa. Calla lilies have dualing meanings of life and death and are popular in both wedding AND funeral arrangements!
Speaking of weddings and funerals, the bells are meant to symbolize both since both events are associated with the sound of bells. Pretty obvious but I was giggling to myself when I thought of it lol
Anyways, I'm pretty proud of this! And it was very fun to make

Been a while since I wrote anything for myself (work atm has me typing 4-6h straight, and it’s ... yeah), but I’ve had a small idea for Minish Cap rattling around for some weeks now. Some of you may know that MC is one of my favourite LoZ games, and that’s mostly because it feels like a children’s story: Link is suggested to still be a child; the setting is part-Spirited Away and part-Arrietty; I keep imagining Ezlo as some sort of Coraline-ish stuffed thing with button-eyes (I’m going to draw that at some point, mark my words).
I guess what I’m saying is that Neil Gaiman and Hayao Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli) teaming up to make an animated movie based on it would make me really happy.
Until that happens, however, here’s an untitled drabble based on it:
“Kid?” Ezlo curled forward. Firelight flickered over Link’s grubby cheeks. He was studiously scrubbing at his hands and arms with a worn rag. His tunic lay on the rocks nearby, still soaked, and the Fire Element dangled next to the Earth Element, like two common charms, from the woven twine he had wrapped around the hilt of the sword. They glowed faintly in the night.
“Hey.” Ezlo leaned down to look at Link’s face. (Upside-down. The day this spell broke would be one of great joy.) “It’s late.”
Link blinked at him. Eyes that old shouldn’t belong to an eight-year-old. “I know.” Link resumed scrubbing.
If Ezlo could, he would have narrowed his eyes. Unfortunately, button-eyes couldn’t be narrowed. He scrunched up the fabric around them instead, and hoped the stitching would do the rest. “I’d rather not be stuck to a whining  —”
“Go to sleep.”
“I’m not going to sleep while you —”
Link peered up. “Who’s whining now?”
“YOU —” Ezlo puffed his cheeks out. (Or rather, the fabric.) The nerve of this child!
Link smiled. “Grandad says a good tradesman’s —” he paused, mouth opening and closing a few times, before — “destingished? Desting  —”
“Distinguished.”
“Distinguished. Dis-tin-guished.” Link repeated it to himself a few more times, then nodded. “A good tradesman’s distinguished by how well he cleans up before bed. See?” He showed his left hand. The skin was red and raw, but the mud, blood, and soot that had accumulated in the lines of his palm, on the joints in his fingers, and under his nails was gone. Callouses and nicks aside, he could have been anyone’s son.
“It’s important to have clean hands,” Link continued. “It means I’m good at being a hero.” His eyes shone with pride.
Ezlo’s stuffed heart clenched. What a simple and innocent logic. Still, he couldn’t make himself be sardonic about it. He sighed. “It sure does, kid. Are you going to sleep soon?”
Link shook his head. “I have to finish the other hand first.”
“Alright. Don’t stay up too late.”
“I won’t.”

Wait this requires me to pick a favorite uh uh well I guess I’ve been playing Minish Cap lately so:
Link and Zelda are exactly one week apart in age and grew up together because Link’s (now deceased) dad was a knight assigned to protect the Princess. He died in a kidnapping attempt, protecting Zelda and Link who were playing at the time. The kidnapper failed to get away because four-year-old Link jumped in the way, just like he did at the beginning of MC, and tripped the man.
Link doesn’t remember any of this. Zelda vaguely remembers a knight and Link protecting her, but has conflated the two, which is why she gives you the shield at the beginning instead of the better prizes.

So I had an idea for a fic project, started research, created a concept sketch to reference while writing (and also good practice at observing the manga's style) ...
... and then accidently started a completely different fic project with no research or planning beforehand.
Whoops.
I'm not going to get to this for a while, but at least I have the concept sketch to share. I may also try to sketch out a teensy bit more from this idea in the meantime, since I do like how it turned out.
Rundown of concept: A Minish Cap AU. Basically, the freed demons of the bound box steal the wishing cap from Vaati. Now back at square 1 in magic capabilities, Vaati escapes to the woods, where he encounters his former teacher Ezlo (who is still cursed as a bird cap). Since Vaati wants the cap back, and Ezlo wants this nightmare scenario to be over and not get any worse, the two team up to fix the broken Picori blade and defeat the demons.
Yes, this is basically an excuse to have the brat apprentice and elder sage interacting and the chaos that results from it. And also because I wanted an adventure story involving the Minish, and what better way of exploring Minish society than with two former Minish.
So, thoughts? Questions? Ideas for what could happen? I'm a terrible writer, but hopefully I can get to it someday, and feedback is appreciated.

Summary:
The Four Sword only held Vaati six years. When Link first pulled the sword, he knew it had changed but he had no idea returning it, and returning to himself as one person again, would change him too.
Rated M, for moderately graphic injury description and transformation body horror. CW for doctor/healer mistreatment of an older teen, restraint including a gag.
Whump fic, selectively mute Link, and Link & Zelda comfort after.

F-1: Link? You’re near Lanayru-5 still, right?
L-1: Currently orbiting while the solar cells recharge, why?”
F-1: We’ve picked up a distress call from near its moon, and you’re the closest ship with the capacity to help.
-
Recovered communication logs between Central engineer Zelda Hyrule with her F-1 Class experimental fighter ship, and an L-1 Class scout ship (pilot unknown).
Sorely Needing Rest
Link just needed a horse, not an argument.
A Meeting in the Desert
Link gets left in the Haunted Wasteland to die.
-
His pale skin was already far past red, already peeling under the heat of the sun, and if he stayed out much longer he’d be willing to hand over the Master Sword to Ganondorf himself in exchange for a drink of water.
Blood and Stitches
Carelessly stepping into the next room, he found himself tripping over his own feet as his ears caught the whirl of one of the many traps found throughout the old mineshafts.
-
Link gets injured in the Cave of Flames and Ezlo helps him deal with it.
Minds and Malice
As it grew closer, Link realised what it was — a Hylian. He’d never seen a living one before, although he had a good idea of what they were like based on his resemblance to them. He knew he wasn’t one though— the word the monsters he’d met had used to describe meant something more like ‘harbinger’ or ‘herald’ from what he could understand.
Painless Potion
“Link, please just listen to me. I went to talk to that couple who runs the potion shop at the bazaar. They said you’re coming in near-daily for heart potions. They assumed you were just picking them up for the Academy, but I checked our stores and they’re the same as they’ve always been. Why do you need those potions Link?”
Under His Skin
Link is fine. The blood staining the front of his tunic might look bad, but the potion he took was able to heal the wound over once he was able to get to it, leaving only a thick scar across his chest. He was still cursing himself internally for making the mistake of forgetting to keep track of his injuries while using the painkilling potion.
Hope in Your Heart
Steeling herself, she stepped forward, calling upon her inherited magic, which took form in her hand as a bright orb of light.
“Vaati. Why have you come here?”
They turned to face her directly and smiled, the sides of their mouth stretching too far as they did so.
“Don’t worry Princess, I have no interest in you anymore.”
Evening Ambush
Link wasn’t panicking, not at all. He was just frozen in fear under the Yiga assassin who had found him while he was sleeping, and had pinned him down with their knee on his chest, waking him up with the feeling of something heavy constricting his breath, with the sharp blade of their sickle to his throat.
Snowpeak Snowboarding
Link is bad at snowboarding.
Dreams of Past Lives
The place he’s in now is… odd. He stands on a thin layer of water in a realm that seems to be nothing more than a bright summers day, light shining down through the sparse white clouds without a sun in sight.
The Malice of a Stranger
As they got closer he realised they were moving oddly, injured perhaps? It was when they were nearing the end of the bridge, close enough for him to seen more clearly, that he saw familiar blond hair falling out from under their hood.
Below the Clouds
“Master Link, I would advise returning to the sky before your illness becomes any worse.”
Death in the Castle
She let out a sigh of relief when they reached the castle infirmary. She knew it wouldn’t be able to help much, but it made her feel better to know that Link was somewhere safe.
One Hundred Years Later
“I… I don’t think this is something you can help with. Ever since I woke up in the Shrine of Resurrection things have just been… different for me.”
Shades of Family
Oh. He remembered her now, fragments of memory forcing their way into the front of his mind. He remembers playing with her as a child, how she begged him not to leave after he drew the sword, how he’d brought her gifts from the different regions he travelled to alongside the princess.
Almost Giving Up
“What if I… what if I feel like I don’t want to exist anymore Fi?”
Unexpected Imprisonment
Link knew it was his fault. It had to be. Sheik could have escaped capture if only Link hadn’t been there, slowing him down.
Alone With A Shadow
He might not know how long it had been, his cell without any windows to see the passing of time through, but the dark stone of the walls that surrounded him gave him a clue — he was trapped in Ganondorf’s castle, that floating fortress that had terrified him so much when he first stepped back out of the Temple of Time with the Master Sword on his back.
No Longer Alone
He could feel his mind breaking apart bit by bit as time went on. He found himself forgetting names, forgetting faces. He screamed sometimes, as futile as it was, as if someone could come and save him.
Scars
Link has a body covered in scars.
Things Lost in the Desert
The ruins around him were clearly much older than the ruins of the Calamity, and it seemed as if a great city had once stood against the highlands but was destroyed or simply abandoned at some point in the distant past.
when the fires of battle still smoulder
“So,” said Link, awkwardly rubbing the back of his head where his hair poured out from under his helm, “do you need something to change into?”
Father and Son?
“Link, what have you done?!”
Thoughts of a Hero
Sometimes he wished he could just run away from it all… except he could, he realised with a start. He could just leave. Could they stop him?
A Hero in the Wild
He’d been wandering Hyrule for a few months now, mostly avoiding more populated areas. As far as the villages he passed through occasionally were concerned, he was just a travelling hunter, who had some talent with a blade.
A Captured Hero
He scowled up at the men holding him captive, his arms tied behind his back and held there by another one of the small group. He recognised their armour if not their faces — Hylian soldiers.
Sleeping in Malice
Each time he slept, it would come back, shouting at him and cursing at the other presence in his mind. He knew that one’s name now at least — Ganon, the one the monsters knew only as the King.
Hero’s Downfall
Link thought his plan had been flawed from the start. If Zelda hadn’t shown up after his capture, now months in the past, she never would. Ganondorf seemed to have realised the same thing, choosing to force Link into working for him rather than holding out for Zelda to reveal herself in a rescue attempt.
Returning the Favour
She’d done the same for him once, over a hundred years ago, so he supposed it was just returning the favour.

fic is available now on AO3 Cave of Life and Death
This is a fanfic i made of the Linked Universe AU. This fanfic took a lot of inspiration from other fanfics Ive read from this fandom and a random thought i got in the middle of the night.
!TW DEATH! THERE IS DEATH AND BLOOD IN THIS YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Cave of Life And Death
That was a night the smallest hero would never forget. The boys had separated into groups of three; Sky, Twi, and Time, Wind, Wars, and Leg, and Four, Rule, and Wild.
The start was nice and slow, each group was given one torch to lead their way through the mysterious cave, Four had nominated himself to hold the torch as he knew what would likely happen if Wild was given the torch, and Hyrule was so unpredictable, he didn’t know what he would do!
The room they found was full of bombs, and crates of what Four could only assume were more bombs. He looked back at the other two, both of them looking astonished at how many bombs were in this room.
“I think we found a storage room or something” Hyrule said as he looked around at the sight. “Why do you think there here, theres so many…”
“You think they maybe-“ Four starts, but his words are cut short when he trips over a unevenly placed stone, and upon making impact with the ground he drops his torch as it flies a few feet in front of him, watching in horror as it lands right next to a bomb
“OH NO NO NO!” Four yells as he runs over to pick up the torch before it ignites the bomb, he grabs it and sighs in relief, turning around to face the others. “Oh goddesses that was a close o-“
Sssssssiizzzzzzzzz….
He turns around to see the bomb ignited, he starts to slowly walk backwards in fear before being pulled to the ground by something behind him, he looks up so see a flash of gold and blue before he’s blinded by the bright light of the bombs explosion…….
There is a loud ringing sound as Four pulls himself up, his vision blurry, he looks around, light has entered the cave and there are burn marks all over the walls. He looks down at himself to see splatters of blood, then to his side to see the champions slate, also covered in blood.
Seeing the slate just lying there alarmed Four, he looked around frantically, only to see Hyrule, sitting directly behind him with the same shocked and confused expression.
“‘Rule…” Four says with fear peaking in his voice “wheres Champion????”
Just by looking at his friends expression he could tell what their champion had done. Thinking about this made Four panic, tears building up under his eyes as he looked at Hyrule, then back at the slate.
“Hyrule- cant you.. cant you bring him back?”
“Not if.. not if theres nothing left for me.. t-to use my life spell on…” Hyrule said, also tearing up, watching as Four bends down to pick up the slate.
the screen has cracked and its covered in a bloody mess. he holds it up in front of him, all his memories with the champion filling in as he bursts out crying, he turns over to Hyrule and they both embrace each other, dropping to the floor.
When it happens
The two in their midst of mourning when Four sees a soft, blue glow out of the corner of his eye, placed right where Wild was standing. Its light blue, almost spiritual, with what looks like a bubble of water surrounding it. Just then, a beautiful zora girl, seemingly a spirit, emerges from the light and circles it, calmly saying “it is my pleasure” before disappearing. As the light disappears they see their champion, standing before them, alive.
The two look at Wild astonished, he had obviously just died but yet here he is, not… dead… they stared at each other awkwardly for a good long second before Hyrule runs up to Wild, hugging him as Wild tries to protest.
Four just stares, flabbergasted at what he just saw, before making eye contact with Wild.
“I’ll… explain later…” Wild said

I love and hate when my brain actually enters creative mode because while I finally am not entirely demotivated I have like 50 wips and no time to do them at all
I don't even realize I do it until I've already spiraled
"Hey, you should draw a sequel to Minish Cap!"
"Wow, that sounds fun!"
"Don't forget the page you've already spent 10 hours on!"
"the what"

In which Vaati does not have a good awakening and Farore is a ball of divine energy or Farore wants party and Vaati wants his bed.
I love Minish Cap and I love even more the manga and it’s end, so I played a bit with it. I had so much fun writing them, specially Farore.
