¡¡ Less than fun fact: this is Carmilla's 4th time being stolen. She was a secondhand purchase from someone we knew from DAK, and she was stolen from and recovered by her original owner 3 separate times at conventions over the years she was with him. We were hoping she'd be a little recovery charm... then remembered 4 is a bad number in Japan. :/ (We still believe in you, Carmilla!)

you may or may not know this about me but i am a pretty hardcore collector of ball jointed dolls, and you would not BELIEVE the amount of EXTREMELY dated loveless photoshoots that are out there. i'd feel bad sharing them because like. it's sort of inherently goofy so i feel like it'd tread a little bit into making fun of them which i'm not entirely comfortable doing but god....... (dated as in dated for the both the bjd hobby (the fake fur wigs......... *shudders*) and dated as is like Squeeing and such)

also apparently at some point someone did a group order (when a bunch of people pool money to buy multiple items to meet the threshold needed to order something basically) to have ritsuka and soubi heads custom sculpted which would've cost like. somewhere between 800-2000 You Ess Doll Hairs at that point in time and the only evidence i can find of these heads existing is very, uh........ Patterson–Gimlin-esque

BJDs made to look like real people are such a context-based thing for me. Like if someone makes a BJD based on, say Henry Cavill's likeness but styled him to look like Superman or Geralt, then I'm totally obsessed. If they style him to be Henry Cavill himself, and post as such, it's a turn-off. But I agree with this anon, I usually say "Ooh, nice... (reads description) oh, eww, okay..." then scroll on.

I myself own a few Minimee heads based on real actors but they're styled and shared as a character they portrayed in a movie or a show. I can't imagine owning a little version of a real person on my shelf, but for some people it's all the same thing, and that's fine, because life is too precious to try to change someone on the internet's opinion.

I repainted my 3D-artist-resin-cast 1:6 scale Leon S. Kennedy head sculpt, for the millionth time! DX I knew I was going to do so eventually; I was just hoping to not f-up again. Which, I kind of think I might have done, again! Fortunately, I feel like I have discovered a way to make him look more accurate, without being wasteful (of MSC, which is toxic, expensive and a pain in the gut to get). I always considered watching a tutorial or two, about how to paint realistic 1:6 action figures, since way back in the day when 1:6 started getting more realistic looking head sculpts and facial paint apps. I even attempted adding pigmented skin texture to some of my DIM Minimee. However, I was doing that with pastels, with small amounts of acrylic paint for just the line work. Which can be heavy and get really “make-up-like’ for my taste. That’s why I thought why not watch a tutorial now, since I was also looking for tutorials on how to gloss eyes properly. I found it’s pretty much what I’ve been doing (the glossing the eyes part), but my terrible shaky hands are huge handicap, that I’ll probably always mess that up.

The painting is so much easier than anything, but it does take a million watered down layers. I don’t know if should be getting model-grade paints, instead of using my artist-grade Liquitex, which might be too saturated and viscous for this kind of paint work? I don’t know, the artist whose tutorial I saw used only model-grade paints, so I am not certain. From the little bit I found on google searches, it seems any acrylic paint will work but the model-grade paints are more like water, than what Liquitex is like and going from the video, they are a lot less saturated/pigmented as well. Oh well, I’ll settle for what I have for now.

Regardless, I was able to get my Leon to look somewhat closer to what I always envisioned him looking like. I’m not a professional by any stretch of the imagination, and not even remotely good at this yet, but I hope that with the little bit I was able to learn, I’ll improve the next time I try repainting him again. I am kind of tempted to get more 1:6 action figures heads to attempt repainting, however, I am not into real people and those are the only heads that are popular in the 1:6 genre of figures. That or 3D printed unlicensed massed produced heads, which I am not okay with. It’s one thing to commission an individual to make a fan-art version for a small number of people, and another to mass produce every single character from a single brand’s licenses (squareenixfinalfantasycharacters), without even blinking. DX

I am fine with repainting this head as many times as it takes, as I have mentioned before, I just wish I didn’t suck as much at tiny miniature work. So that I could get to the point I will feel satisfied with him, sooner. I took a million photos, so I do believe I like him a lot better already! I can’t wait until I can feel like trying again! Which will probably be sooner than later, you never know when you’ll kick the bucket and that’ll be that! Lol! (: My cell phone that is older than dust, but takes “nicer” photos was dying, so I took most of these with my newer cell phone that takes sharper photos, but less pleasant to the eyes (IMHO). The last two were taken with my old-cell phone, I feel they show the texture a lot better. Although he’s not quite as tomato red, IRL.

He’s not wearing his black shirt that came with this set because I am planning on attempting to recreate the game’s version of the 5.11 tactical shirt that HT made. I am also not wanting to have to remove any stains on the body, as it is partially painted on the upper torso. This body is the Damtoys RE2R Leon’s body, so it’s pretty large, but the head is so big, it makes it look tiny....Lol! I am still angry that the head sculpt was made to be so large. From some angles, you can even see a huge gap at the nape of the neck, because the head is so freaking massive. T__T;;

Honestly I think I could cobble together an AP body that looked a lot like mine if I had the money. There’s a bigger tummy lower torso, there are saggy, small bust upper torsos, heavier thighs and calves.....

The coolest (or freakiest as my spouse has deemed it) thing has happened. Since stepping back into the hobby, I’ve been trying to track down where the spare of Trudie’s head ended up, even going so far as to make a marketplace post on DoA. Following my old feedback, I found the name of the person I originally sold it to, who was kind enough to look through her records for who she had subsequently sold the head to. That person turned out to be an old friend, but she had had to move the head on too and couldn’t remember to whom, only that she thought that person had likewise sold it onward. I’d kind of given up hope of discovering her whereabouts at that point, but in talking to Twigling about her 1:3 Artifex Kindred body (the self same body I really want to get for Trudie), it came to light that she has the duplicate head! I can’t think of a more perfect ending to my quest. It’s pretty unbelievable and really rather wonderful. It’s a nice mystery to have resolved. I’m really happy about it. 🥰 Damn it all, spoke too soon. Twigling was mistaken about which old minimee head she has.

In other news, I seem to have developed an obsession with getting the same pair of eyes (or at least the same brief) made by every urethane eye maker I come across who takes custom orders and can do glow in the dark. Once the dust settles and the winner emerges, I’ll have several pairs to sell. It’s one way of comparing makers. 😜

Some of them! My avatar doll, turquoise Meg doll and the baby are made entirely by me. The Dean and Cas dolls are bjd minimee, the heads are from the Modoll company and the bodies from other companies. I buy them blank and personalize them, I made the eyes, wigs, makeup and clothes.

(The Moors is a Doll in Mind/Minimee Elf event head in white resin, wearing Oscar Doll eyes and a gauze head wrap, with Hammer Horror inspired faceup by me. And now they are contained. Thank goodness. Eventually they'll get a proper specimen label, but for now, the cloche is enough. )

Okay, dollblr, I need your help

My friend's doll collection was stolen on May 19th by his shitty landlord. Charges have been filed, but the landlord and the moving company he used to transport the dolls and other stolen property have been uncooperative in giving the information needed to trace and recover the dolls.

I'm asking that this post be shared as far and wide as possible so he has some hope of getting his most beloved and distinctive dolls back.

If anyone sees a massive dump of Ringdolls and Dollfie Dreams on Mercari, eBay, or Facebook, especially in/around/from the Louisville, KY area, please contact me so I can let him know.

I will update as we assess the full extent of the loss, but the dolls we're asking people to keep an eye out for at the moment are

Ringdoll K fullset edition with attached hair, NS. No outfit. Distinctive features: One magnet fell out and was put back in back upside down, so his headcap doesn't stay closed.

DIM Minimee Ruki head, NS. Distinctive features: Vampire mod.

Custom House Mina (both Saint Mina and LE Sad Mina), NS

Bobobie Pixie. Distinctive features: sky blue skin that yellowed to a minty color. Probably wearing green pajamas with brown airplanes made by me.

1. Bruh, the problem wasn't being sexually attracted to random people, no one was shaming wanting to fuck. The problem was telling a bunch of random people for absolutely no reason that you wanna bang random people in some weird creepy way. Esp since it was a response to some creepy 30 yo wanting to bang her 20 yo student. Do ya legit think that the most logical thing to do is, to think it's normal to tell complete strangers on the internet, via a DOLL confession blog that you wanna fuck some random person? Also, there have been a considerable amount of people confessing about wanting to bang their dolls, or enjoying "Ahegao" dolls, and no one has a problem with that.

Some of you really need to relearn what a fucking filter is, not everyone wants to know what makes you gush. People really need to figure out that a bunch of random strangers might not actually be vividly invested in your fantasy sex-life. You can be sex positive without rubbing your weird sex fantasies into people's faces, especially when you see how many people have absolutely no shame, and will even send weird creepy sex tweets to the victims of their infatuation for everyone to see. (Like every female Twitch streamer ever)

It's like those creepy koreaboo posts where they talk about "UwU imagine K-pop star #31132 as a cow, and how he'd just start tearing up if you touched his little weewee." No one needs to see you being a weird incel online. (Yes this was based on a legit twitter post.)

Sex positive and not being a creep, are not mutually exclusive.

2. the way some of you are about attraction is nuts. you realize it's pretty common for teens to discuss what teacher's the hot one, right? i know my friends and i did. and now that i'm an adult, and i'm in college, if i meet one of them at a bar or something? they probably wouldn't be interested, but if we hook up, that's two consenting adults right there. fucking go live in the real world, you people are sincerely unwell. like oh my god you are fundamentally broken and it's so fucking concerning.

I'm not teacher anon I just think somewhere along the way people got so fucked in the head about finding ADULTS attractive that now a bunch of young people actually think thought crimes are real. Just to clarify, as the one who sent the question re "Is it ever ok to make a doll of someone you have a crush on in lieu of interacting with them", that was a genuine question and I've seen it come up with celebrity minimees etc., it was stupid of me to bring it up while the teacher who wants to f*ck their student shit was going on (and that IS creepy, power differences like that in relationships ARE very unhealthy I agree)- now y'all think we're the same person but I really was just curious.

6. I hate how the creepy 30y/o teacher issue has led to people outright denouncing having a sexual attraction towards somebody like THAT IN ITSELF is bad. There are things bad and downright creepy about that particular situation and others like it. Sexual attraction in and of itself is a natural physical reaction we were literally evolved to have as humans and is acceptable in society. Some people are asexual and that's fine but it's creepy how anti-sex some terminally online people have gotten.

I don’t remember if I ever posted photos of my DollZone Mo-Wen on Tumblr. I didn’t make one until much later in life, and stopped taking photos of him for a long time -- these are from around 2006-2007, I first received him in November 2006. I stopped having an interest in BJD for a long while after I got my last floating head, I would say around 2-3-years worth of time. Then, I was in the process of modifying my Mo, and much later when I was bored one day I went to look for BJD news....

I was super sad and a bit surprised to learn when it was already too late, that DZ had discontinued Mo! I always felt like he was one of their more popular first sculpts they released (and that was partly why I wanted to mod mine). Since then, I felt like it was the wrong move to stop looking for BJD related news, even if I have no interest in purchasing more. Otherwise, I would have known he was being discontinued and I would have been able to purchased another head, or not attempted modifying mine in the first place (although, I would have probably gone for the former).

I love my Mo so much, but since I learned about his sculpt being discontinued, he has stayed in limbo since then. I feel like I want to try to work on him, but then I feel ambiguity because i don’t know if I should try to make him look different, which was my original goal. Or try to restore whatever little I can, since I did do subtractive mods on his face already. DX

I don’t regret any of the other modification I’ve done on my other heads, because I knew they were limited like my Minimee, or I had already modified the heads and then much later they were discontinued and I wasn’t able to afford a whole doll just for the head, like with my Mano. However, with Mo, I could have afforded the head, but didn’t know. So, it’s a bit more of a deep wound this time, because I could have had an unmodified Mo, and a modified one as well, had I not been stupidly away from the news!!!

Anyone who read this whole essay about my feelings for my Mo-Wen who is in limbo now, thank you. I am kind of very stressed right now, because I can’t sleep (story of my insomniac life!), and I was browsing through old photos of my dolls. I am just venting now, but I’d like to think I’ll come to a decent solution about this soon, hopefully not one that doesn’t include begging DollZone to sell me a Mo-Wen head sculpt, because I don't think they will. T_T;;

I do have a PROBLEM, though, in that I’ve gotten a decent practice and improvement roll going and am running out of dolls to repaint...

I don’t want to undo what I’ve done recently, really.

I could crack Little Mint’s head open, yank her shitty acrylics, and repaint HER.

I have the other MiniMee which I did paint and will get to eventually.

Still need to do Bellamy.

Am RESISTING wiping 24′s absolutely lovely if minimalist and very skilled faceup and redoing it...

The only other older faceups are Constance who I don’t much want to change, and Mika who’s fine other than silly eyebrows but they’re hidden.

Could do Lusis again, I guess.

Selling these heads. Doll leaves Gabriel head in ns with open eye mod. No yellowing, coa went with the body. Some staining between the lips. $25 Impldoll Martin head in tan. Has some pastel stuck between the wrinkles in his lips, I'm not sure if it's staining or or just stuck, I don't have the materials to clean it out. I've priced it in case it's stained. $30 Minimee head, I can't remember specifically what minimee, I think it was a final fantasy character? It's heavily modded, and messily as well as I didn't finish it. $20 Missmonstermel harpy head, it's not stained since I did wipe off a good deal of the previous faceup, it's just a lot of work because of how many nooks and crannies are in it. It doesn't have magnets as it didn't come with it, and there is some apoxie repair on the nose that was already there when purchased from Missmonstermel. $40 I am happy to look at any trades for shorter sd clothes and shoes
