Y/n POV
Police had done their rounds of asking people in the store what had happened. I was one of the first few that got questioned. I was still shaken up about what just happened. Not only did I just almost die but also the fact that Spiderman knew my name. How did he know my name? As the police were finishing up their questions they asked if there was someone they could call to pick me up and I told them there is no need I am fine walking. I just didn’t want to worry my mom when there is nothing to worry about. Especially now that I am alive and well. After they said we could leave I had gotten the snacks I had purchased and headed to Peter’s place. I knew if I went home that I would be alone and right now I don’t want to be alone because I know the moment I am alone I am going to breakdown. So I continued to head to Peter’s apartment knowing he was going to be waiting for me. I looked at my phone and it was 8:10. Shoot I’m like 20 min out from his apartment. I started to fast walk down the street. As I fast walked down the street I couldn't stop thinking about Spiderman. Was he someone I know that’s been right under my nose with me not realizing it?
Peter POV
“Shit” he mumbled as he was sitting on top of a building.
“I can’t believe I said her name out loud” he got up and paced about the situation at hand. Talking out loud has always helped calm down and figure out solutions.
“I don’t think she realizes it’s me, I mean I don’t know if she recognized my voice? She was freaking out so her mind was probably not focused on my voice And it’s not like I said my name out loud. Oh okay I pretty sure my cover isn’t blown so I think I’m good” he started to take deep breaths. He was calm now and now he could concentrate. He looks down at the city and sees a woman walking faster then normal which he thought it was normal for New York City, people were always in a hurry. But then recognized the Y/h/l Y/h/c and the outfit that he just saw not too long ago.
“Is she heading to my apartment?” He says recognizing the route that he usually takes when he goes home. Once she takes a left he knew that she was heading to his place.
“What is she doing? She was just being held hostage and she is still coming over? She needs to get rest”. He came up with a quick idea that he thought at top of his head to text her that he wasn’t feeling well and that he can’t do it tonight. But then he realized that one, it would seem fishy that he was sending this message when they were supposed to meet 20 minutes ago and two, if she was really wanting to be alone right now she would have just gone home and texted him that she couldn’t make it.
“Well, I got to get there sooner than later” as he started to swing from building to building getting to his apartment as fast as he could.
Y/n POV
Once I finally found the right apartment (after knocking on some wrong doors because I have always been horrible at directions). I knock on the door and I hear a lady who seems to be in her late 20s to early 30s shout at the door.
“Did you forget you key again Peter?” Wait Peter isn’t here?
“Um sorry I’m not Peter…” I semi-shouted to make sure she heard me. I hear a silent “shit” as the woman makes her way to the door and opens it. I should be on the price is right because I was right about her age. She was this beautiful long hair brunette with great complexion and a smile that totally reminded me of Peter.
“Hi, I’m so sorry about that I thought you were my nephew”
“It’s okay, I’m Y/n I’m actually Peter’s friend. Does he lose his key all the time?” I say as I start to chuckle
“Nice to meet you Y/n I’m Peter’s Aunt May but you can just call me May and yes he does, all the time”
“Sounds like Peter” we both laughed.
“But um, is Peter not here? We were going to watch Star Wars and I’m actually late so I thought he would be here”
“Actually he is not-“
“I’M HERE!!” Peter comes out heavily panting. Why was he panting so hard?
“When did you get home? I didn’t see you come in” May had asked him.
“What do you mean I have been here since school got out”
“Was I sleeping or something because I don’t remember you coming in”
“Yeah um I pretty sure you were Aunt May”
“Oh well then sorry I missed you coming in, if I had known I would have made you dinner”
“It’s alright, I haven’t been too hungry. But anyway but is it okay if Y/n and I are going to watch Star Wars in my room?”
“Yeah just keep the door up!”
“Sweet thanks Aunt May” he says as he grabs my hand to lead me to what I assume is his room. I tried to hide my red face after entering his room.
“Are you okay? Your face is a little red” he asked as he was grabbing the snacks from my hand to set them down. “Oh Watermelon Sour Patch my favorite.” Spiderman made the right call on the snack.
“Oh yeah I’m good thanks for asking though” I said after a moment of realizing I haven’t answered him.
“Really are you sure? I mean you look a little shaken up is everything okay?” As he puts in the Phantom Menace. Even though it’s not my favorite one we got to start somewhere. It was weird though that Peter was pressing on if I was okay. Did he know something happened? Or can he just read me like a book?
“Well I uh mean I’m fine now but there was attempted robbery at the convenience store I was at.” trying to say it nonchalantly but there was a little bit of shakiness to my voice that sounded like it was quivering.
“Oh my god? Are you okay? Did you get injured? What happened?” He asked, I could hear the worriedness come out of his voice. He was on the edge of freaking out.
“Peter it’s okay” as I set my hands on top of his hands so that he could calm down. I had explained to him about how the robber had held me hostage and I thought I was going to die but Spiderman showed up and how he saved my life.
“Oh wow, I’m just Spiderman was there to save you”
“Yeah me too”
“But Y/n please don’t take any offense to this but, after all you have gone through, why are you here? Like I would have totally understood if you wanted to go home after that”.
I looked down real fast wondering if I should tell him why.
“Because I wanted to watch Star Wars! Now come on, let’s watch the movie”. I said changing the subject.
“Yeah, sounds great” he said with a little disappointment in his voice. I know he was upset that I didn’t say but I appreciate him not pressing it. I pulled out my Star Wars blanket out of my bag and had shared it with Peter.
“Woah, didn’t realize you like Star Wars this much” as he pointed out Chewy, Han, and the Millennial Falcon.
“Yep! I always have this blanket with me when I watch the Star Wars movies, my father gave it to me when I was about 10 years old”
“Well I think I have to have one now” as he yanks the blanket to have all by himself.
“Ya now wait a minute, that’s mine get your own” as I about tackle him. We wrestle for the blanket for a little bit till I gave up. I didn’t realize how strong he was.
“I’m waving my white flag, I surrender” I say as I lay on the ground breathing heavily.
“Ah I win! But since I like you I will share the blanket” I froze, realizing what he just said. I sit up to look at him in the eyes.
“You like me?”
“Uh well um I- I ah” he says as he is flustered. He coughs and takes a deep breath and looks at me in the eyes “Y-yes I do-o” he says as he is not sure what I am going to say.
“Well that’s good cause I like you too” I reassured him. He turned a worried look to a smile real fast.
“Well that great to hear as well” he states “Shall we continue the movie”
“We shall” I replied as we turned to the tv, leaning on the side of his bed as he wraps his arm around me.I leaned my head in his shoulders. In this moment, everything was almost right where we needed to be. Almost.
Peter POV
As we were watching the movie I couldn’t focus on the movie because I was so happy and anxious. I just admitted to liking her and she admitted to liking me to. I couldn’t stop thinking about where this could go. She has always been unpredictable in a fun way and I can’t wait to see what’s in store. I was also still wondering why she didn’t just go home but it seemed like there was more to the story then she let on so I just left it where it was. If she was ready she would tell me. Even though My Spidey senses could tell me her heart was pacing very fast.
Y/n POV
As much as I was trying to focus on the movie and focus on Peter, my mind kept going back to the convenience store, when the robber was holding the gun to my head. It just made me relive what I’m sure what my dad went through and all of my emotions towards that point in my life and what had happened today were starting to come back. My heart was racing and I just needed to talk about it. Even though before I said I wasn’t ready to tell Peter, I realized that Peter is someone who would just comfort me with what I’m going through.
“Do you know why I love Star Wars so much?” I asked him.
“Why?”
“It was one of my favorite things I did with my dad growing up. We would sit down and watched the movies together. He worked a lot but whenever we got to hangout boy would it be fun. Most of the time we would get in trouble with my mom because we would be close to breaking something or we did break something. But when we watched Star Wars together, it was the happiest moments that I had with my dad.”
“Had?”
“My dad died 4 years ago”
“If you don’t mind me asking, how did he die?”
“He died as a victim of a robbery, he was held hostage till the robber decided to put a bullet in his head”
“Oh y/n, oh my gosh. I can’t imagine what you are going through right now. Being in the same position as him”
“I thought I was going to die today. I thought I was going to die the same way that my father did. I wasn’t ready to die Peter, and I didn’t thank goodness for Spiderman but I was just thinking of all of the things I wanted to do and at the same time the memories of my father dying was too much for me to handle. You see, that is why I came over. I didn’t want to be alone because I knew if I was alone then I would break down and I wasn’t ready to break down yet, I wanted to be in your company to make sure someone was with me when I did. And I chose to be with you Peter because I knew if I do you would be able to comfort me.” As my final word came out I balled my eyes out. I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I cried into his shoulder. I tried to be quiet so May couldn’t hear me but it wasn’t much use. I couldn’t stop crying, my emotions have finally taken over. As I’m in my breakdown, Peter holds me into his chest as he says comforting things in my head like “it’s okay let it out, no need to keep it in”, “you are amazing and strong” and “I got you”. Eventually I stopped crying and look up at him with my red puffy eyes.
“You know, if I wasn’t a mess right now and I didn’t just cry out my eyes, I would totally kiss you right now” as I chuckle at my words. He laughs too.
“It’s okay. How about this, we will put a rain check on that kiss?”
“Sounds like a plan” as I chuckled some more.
“Hey” Peter puts his finger under my chin making me look at him, “if you ever see those robbers ever again, let me know because I will kick their ass”
All of a sudden it dawned on me.
“Um Peter, I only mentioned one robber…”

Review of You Are My Hero 你是我的城池营垒
I just completed it so I'll give my full review of it.
I'll just say it straight that I highly recommend it with most of the reason being the chemistry between the actors is amazing and I really enjoyed it.
Music
I really enjoy the music, it's definitely not as extensive as some of the dramas I know like Go Go Squid 2 but the 5 songs that are featured feels sufficient to me.
Plot
The plot itself is not bad for me. In summary is that a trainee doctor and swat team leader met during a robbery/hostage situation, 2 years later they meet again as the trainee is getting her certificate for emergency rescue(?) in a training camp, located in that swat team leader's base. Things happen with their relationship and career as the story goes on.
I do see a lot of effort put in to make this plot work, when you watch the behind the scenes, the director is very proactive, and all the actors went to respective places like hospitals and swat bases to learn more about their roles.
Relationships/Acting
I'll start off with that I did not know what to expect when I saw this drama, I had little idea on who the actors are etc.
1. Xing Ke Lei/Mi Ka
Bai Jing Ting and Ma Si Chun are the actors for this pair. Their chemistry as actors are really amazing, they really make me ship this pair a lot. Just look at the behind the scenes and they shine in their acting. The story for this couple also is not too cringy, like realistic for a couple that have important careers. Don't expect too much kiss scenes but there is one that I really like (the on where they were lying face each other on the sofa).
2. Shu Wen Bo/Ruan Qing Xia
Chen Hao and Jiang Pei Yao are the actors for this pair. Honestly, I do not like this pair just because I felt that Shu Wen Bo is very wishy-washy about his feelings. I know that they want to portray him as liking her but feels that Xiao Xia deserves Lu Feng more but I think it's like super obvious that Xiao Xia has no interest in Lu Feng so when he keeps pushing I felt that he is just not interested.
I do like how when they got together, Shu Wen Bo has questions to ask Xing Ke Lei and Mi Ka because of how innocent(?) he is in a relationship.
3. Shao Yu Han/Xing Ke Yao
Wayne Wang and Zhang Yao are the actors for this pair. Fun fact: Zhang Yao sang one of the OSTs. This is another pair that I really like because the scriptwriter + acting really shows that they were a pair but separated with things in life (career/family business) but still have feelings for each other, and are very mature/level-headed with their feelings. You can see that when they 'got back together' is not really explicitly said when they did on screen, is really feels like they have a mutual understanding of each other's feelings.
4. Xing Ke Yao/Xing Ke Lei
I usually do not mention sibling relationships but their acting as siblings here is amazing. You can see that Xing Ke Lei listens to Xing Ke Yao, with her acting very well as the older sister being strict on a younger brother feel. It's during Episode 14 (I think) when she asked him to fetch her and you can see how Xing Ke Lei is like unwillingish but listens to her etc.
5. Other mentions
The plot for Xu Yan Shan who is Mi Ka's friend who got jealous of her because she likes Shao Yu Han is one that I actually like a lot. Firstly, to a third party/someone who does not know of Shao Yu Han's past or his character, I would also honestly think that he likes Mi Ka because it does seem like he treats her differently. Like he asked Mi Ka to be added, going to the food shop with her, inviting her to the gathering of old friends etc. So yes he does treat Mi Ka differently but not because he likes her but because he sees more potential in Mi Ka than Xu Yan Shan in becoming a good doctor, which he actually did tell Xu Yan Shan in the end (when her deed got exposed), and he did not say like I don't like you explicitly/I like Xing Ke Yao. As a mentor/senior, he corrected Xu Yan Shan's assumption, gave her reasons for his actions, rejected her in a professional manner without mentioning that he likes someone/you are not for me etc. This part for me is the most commendable because it is extremely professional given the setting and shows the maturity of a senior.
Things I Don't Like/Meh About
1. Shu Wen Bo/Ruan Qing Xia
I'll just put it here to reiterate it.
2. Flashbacks
There has been like 3 flashbacks for the whole drama so that they think of the moments that they have been together. And it's not like a short 3 sec kind is like 2 mins each which I feel is unnecessary.
3. Ending
This might just be me who waited 4 days for the last 2 episodes to be released (if you didn't know for some reason in China when it should be 8 episodes a week which makes it 5 weeks and should end on 11 Apr, they released 38 episodes in 4 weeks and 2 episodes on 8 Apr), and thus kept rewatching it. I felt that the ending was too bland, like not as romantic/sweet as I hoped the ending would be. Maybe I would change my mind once I rewatch it as a whole again but yeah for now anticlimactic.

Everything Wrong With The Umbrella Academy. Episode 2, Run Boy Run.
Link to the first episode!
Same disclaimer as last episode: This is all in good fun! I wanted to do a really nitpicky re-watch of the series and found some really cool and interesting things I didn’t notice before. This is meant to have a Cinema Sins-esque tone. However, I did take off a lot more sins than Cinema Sins would have because I do genuinely like the series and the people that made it possible. So all of the good things got one sin off and all the bad things got one sin added. This is a really long post, so grab some popcorn. If there’s anything that I missed, feel free to add it!
Run Boy Run
Grace started the Herr Carlson record before the kids even arrived. How are they supposed to learn if they miss the first few seconds of it?  What is the point of the record if they’re not even around to hear all of it?+1
The kids all have their hands on the chairs except for Five, showing that he will do something out of the ordinary. -1
Diego is causing property damage to Reggie’s chairs and Reggie allows this. Be consistent, show! Is Reggie lenient or strict? You could make the argument that Reggie doesn’t care about the chair because he’s rich. In that case, sinning for capitalism.+1
Klaus is already into drugs at the age of 13. We can see him rolling a blunt, and doing it quite well, presumably. +1
Ben is straight up allowed to read at the table. So then what is the point of the record if the kids don’t have to pay attention to it? +1
The kids expressions when Five stabs the table. The ones that we see are pure gold. Especially Klaus’s. Well done Dante Albidone. -1
Diego’s side eye when Five starts arguing with Reggie. This is the perfect expression for “my sibling is about to get in trouble”, so props to Blake Talabis. -1
Vanya’s side eye is also good. TJ McGibbon did well. -1
We see Five jump faster than a bullet, but he’s significantly slower when jumping across the table. +1
Reggie is a dick to Five, who just wants to explore his powers. We know that it’s dangerous because we see Five getting stuck, but Five doesn’t think that that is really a possibility. Reggie only talks in confusing ice and acorn metaphors. +1
Five’s face when Reggie presents the ice and acorn metaphor. -1
Vanya and Allison both give Five a look in this scene. This is what makes Five hesitate. Two of his siblings tell him it’s a bad idea, but he does it anyway because he’s a stubborn bastard. +1
Grace’s face drops when Five starts running out the door. Allison and Vanya also look absolutely horrified. -1
“Run Boy Run” is a little on the nose. Especially once you remember that The Boy is Five’s hero name in the comics. +1
No one cares that a 13 year old popped into existence out of nowhere when Five starts traveling into the future. +1
Easter egg! There is an ice cream cart outside the academy. If you’ve read Dallas, you know why I think that’s significant. Also, it happens to be my icon. -1
Five’s look of complete disbelief and horror when he is faced with the apocalypse for the first time. -1
“Vanya! Ben!” This has created a lot of curiosity in the fandom. In the comics he left before they were named, but in the show it looks like he chose to keep Number Five. Why? +1
The apocalypse looks very believable. -1
Title screen umbrella! -1
The awesome scene with Ellen Page and Aidan Gallagher continues in the next episode. -1
Where would Five have heard that rumor about Twinkies having an endless shelf life? It’s not like he was very exposed to pop culture as a kid. +1
Vanya doesn’t keep her Violin in the case. She leaves it proped on a chair, which is basically begging gravity to come and fuck up your instrument. +1
Five plays the pronoun game and doesn’t tell Vanya about Dolores. +1
The last thing Five heard for 40 years was Reggie’s stupid metaphor. That’s a sin for the metaphor and a sin for Five’s pain and suffering. +2
Vanya gives someone with a thirteen-year-old’s liver a few shots worth of hard liquor in a tall glass. +1
“You think I didn’t try everything to get back to my family?” This quote is Five at his core. It shows his exact motivation. Aidan Gallagher really could have screwed up with this line because it’s so raw, but the delivery doesn’t suck. Well done. -1
Is that liquor real? Aidan Gallagher’s face suggests that it is and he only takes two sips of it. Also, Five takes a sip when it’s just a bit, pours more, then takes another sip, and doesn’t drink any more of it. Sin for showmakers possibly giving a kid real alcohol and sin for Five only taking a sip after pouring a lot out. +1
However, if the alcohol is fake, which I really hope it is, sin off for Aidan Gallagher’s acting. -1
Five expects Vanya to believe his crazy apocalypse story. I had a hard time believing it when we were shown flashbacks as the audience. It wasn’t until they brought in the Commission that I actually believed it. If Five had explained the Commission, just like he did to Luther, then Vanya would have had an easier time believing him. +1
Vanya calls Five crazy and then expects him to not be hurt and want to stay in her apartment. +1
Vanya takes the pills after an emotionally charged scene. Pills-foreshadowing. -1
Five’s hands are shaking when he’s looking at the eyeball. This shows both his uncertainty, with this being his only clue, and shows that he is unwilling to leave his sister again even after she called him insane. -1
Mary J. Bilge. -1
The Lunar Motor Lodge has rates by the week, day, and hour. The Commission is super sleazy for putting Hazel and Cha Cha in a place that also rents by the hour. +1
Hazel and Cha Cha are an underrated duo. The “It smells like cat piss” dialogue is honestly really funny. -1
Obvious villains are obvious. I know they’re meant to be obvious, but it doesn’t change the fact that a show with a lot of subtlety just kind of thrust Hazel and Cha Cha in there with no subtlety at all. +1
Hazel stores the briefcase away and throws a screw, foreshadowing that this will be an important detail later. -1
No one, including police, notices the blinking and beeping, neon green tracker. +1
Patch is sort of right. Five made a jump in the middle of two of the local hires, which caused them to shoot each other. -1
“The guy had an eclair and the kid had coffee”. Patch’s side eye says that she thinks Agnes is getting her story mixed up. If we didn’t see what happened, then the audience wouldn’t believe Agnes either. Great acting Ashley Madekwe. -1
Agnes doesn’t stay in the back room. She crawls out so her head can dramatically pop up over the counter after Five leaves. This is a stupid decision on Agnes’s part.+1
Agnes is seen handling American money. Somehow we as a fandom didn’t notice this. Klaus also uses American money to buy drugs later in this episode. Sinning the showmakers not specifying which state at the very least, but reluctantly because I know that’s a reference to the comics. +1
“What other detective”. Camera cuts to Diego exiting Griddys. -1
Diego is a vigilante. What he is doing impedes the law. In this instance, we want him to stop Patch’s investigation because we know that the answer leads back to Five, which would be bad for the plot. However, Patch’s annoyance suggests Diego has done this to her before. How many murderers have gone free because Diego intervenes in Patch’s cases? +1
Diego did not consent to being searched and having his personal belongings taken. +1
Ebay exists but there is no internet or smartphones. What? +1
Diego thinks that this looks like a botched robbery. No way in hell does this look like a robbery of a doughnut shop in any universe. A bank robbery, yeah sure, but not a doughnut shop. What kind of doughnut shop has the kind of money that requires multiple guys with very large weapons, Diego? +1
The way Patch is described to Five by Diego in a later episode does not match the personality she actually has. +1
A whole crowd of people had nothing better to do than to watch the cops investigate a murder scene in a densely populated city. +1
Is Luther hitting his head after he wakes up a character choice? He does it again with the model airplane. After the low ceilings on the moon for four years, you would think that he would learn to duck. +1
Emmy Raver-Lampman gives an amazing performance when talking to Luther about Claire. -1
Allison has multiple posters of herself in her room. I am sinning for her younger self’s narcissism. +1
However, this narcissism goes hand in hand with Allison as a character. Props to the set designers for making these posters and hanging them up. It adds detail to Allison’s room and really shows who she was as a character. -1
“When Claire was little I used to read her books about the moon. I’d tell her her Uncle was living up there” Allison doesn’t remember that Luther was on the moon and therefore shouldn’t know about her divorce in the first episode, but says this in the second episode. +1
Luther looks so genuinely happy at being Claire’s personal superhero. -1
The ghosts torturing Klaus. +1
That fucking animal print thing Klaus is wearing. +1
Robert Sheehan is very, very attractive. This makes up for the monstrosity Klaus is wearing. -1
“You know you talk in your sleep.” “Oh there’s no point. You’re out of drugs” I love Ben as a character so much. -1
“Shut your piehole, Ben. Said with love” smooch. I love this line. -1
“I’ve got a crazy idea. Why not try starting your day with… a glass of orange juice or some eggs”. Justin Min’s delivery of this line kills me every time. -1
Pogo is really vague about why the papers in Reggie’s box are important. If he said something about the papers detailing the Academy’s powers in explicit detail, Klaus would have tried harder to get them back. +1
We don’t see Klaus pull out the Red Journal in episode one. +1
“Liar” “Drop dead” “Low blow”. This is an iconic interaction for a reason. -1
Pogo knows that Klaus can talk to ghosts, but remains offended when Klaus tells a ghost to shut up. +1
“Really awful, terrible, depressing times” Reggie is a dick to his children. +7
Vanya sleeps with the door to her bedroom open, even though we saw her close it. So she must have gotten up to open the door and didn’t notice Five was gone. +1
Where did Five go all night? Did he sleep back in the Academy? It couldn’t have taken him this long to get to the MeriTech building, so what happened to him? He changed to a clean uniform, so presumably he went to the Academy, but why did the show vague this? Did he walk into a department store and buy/steal a clean shirt?+1
Only the plot relevant person notices Five. The front desk girl doesn’t question why he’s there. And that is her literal job. I would know, I run the front desk at a medical office. If you don’t greet the patients then you’re not doing your job, front desk girl.+1
“Must have just [click] popped out.” iconic.-1
Five decides that violence is the best course of action to get the information he needs, directly contradicting “I know how to do everything” +1
The 1938 fingerprints may be Five’s. However, police usually discard this kind of evidence because there is a very reasonable doubt. Not to mention that anyone could have touched the knife. It’s a public place. Forensic evidence is not as reliable as it is portrayed in the media. +1
Diego is an asshole to everyone, but especially to Patch. She’s right, Diego is obstructing justice. How many murderers have gone free because Diego interfered in an investigation? +1
Diego’s boiler room is way too big to be a boiler room. +1
Luther’s reflection in Diego’s mask shows that Luther wants to know what it would be like to be number two instead of number one. Luther can’t lead for shit and subconsciously wishes that he didn’t have to. -1
With an aerial shot of the Academy from the outside, we can see that Reggie never bothered to take the laundromat sign off the mansion or that Reggie sold ad space on the mansion exterior. +1
Reggie is a dick to animals. See: the animal skeletons and the taxidermy. +1
Part of the mansion is painted an ugly neon green for no reason. +1
“Sorry I left without saying goodbye”. The “both times” is unspoken. -1
Vanya apologises for calling him crazy and being dismissive, but still suggests he needs mental help. He does, but maybe suggest it later when he isn’t convinced you think he’s insane? +1
Five lies to Vanya about something stupid. If he said that he was having Klaus help him with the apocalypse, I don’t think she would have minded. +1
Why does Five have so many toys in his room? Including a baseball? +1
Klaus comes out of the wardrobe as loudly as possible. The mansion does not have sound proofing (see: I Think We’re Alone Now dance party). There is no way in hell Vanya didn’t hear him. +1
This is the last time Vanya and Five interact. +1
Five’s room is more childish than a thirteen-year-old’s room should be. It honestly looks like he was the favorite because his room has so many toys in it. Like Reggie wanted to win his favor or something. Sinning for the weird set design choice and for Reggie being an asshole. +1
The fake circumstances in which Five was born in their cover story gives me immense joy. -1
In one camera angle, if you look carefully they cut two takes of “what a disturbing glimpse into that thing you call a brain”. In the one where we can’t see his face properly, Aidan Gallagher is openly smiling. Corpsing. +1
Robert Sheehan is funny. -1
Syd the tow truck guy doesn’t really look like Sean Sullivan (actor that plays adult Five) enough for Cha Cha, a trained assassin, to not see that he isn’t their mark. +1
Hazel eating a sandwich in this scene. Also the “Italian for dinner line”. -1
And Cha Cha sees the differences between Syd and Five later! +1
“Time travel’s a bitch” “Especially without a briefcase” There's other time travel methods than briefcase or being Five? Elaborate. +1
Patrick is a dick to Allison. We understand why later, but really Patrick, you’re going to be an asshole when her father just died? Don’t get me wrong, Reggie abused the hell out of her, but still! Patrick should have let Allison talk to Claire. +1
Vanya tries to comfort Allison even though she knows nothing about the situation other than that it happened. She’s never even met Patrick! +1
Allison is clearly trying to get away from this conversation with Vanya, but Vanya presses on. +1
“Well if I wanted advice, Vanya, no offence, it wouldn’t be from you”. This is why Vanya doesn’t take Allison’s advice about Leonard. Also, Allison is a dick to Vanya. +1
This scene with Allison and Vanya is interesting. Allison is projecting her pain and taking it out on Vanya, who really should have seen and heard what happened enough to leave her alone. Both of them are the bad guy here regardless of how you slice it. I am sinning the show for this moment because they really tried to villainize Allison for this scene, but she does have some well thought out points and is in an emotionally compromised state. Or in other words, the fight between Allison and Vanya is stupid. +1
Grant/Lance/whatever gave Klaus and Five valuable office time. Doctors do not have time for this sort of crap. Shouldn’t this guy have patients? +1
Aidan Gallagher looks to the actor playing Grant/Lance/whatever as if he’s waiting for him to say his line. I see this all the time with younger kids in theatre, but they can get away with it if their character has a reason to look at that character. That being said, Five would have no reason to do this.+1
The sound effect that plays when Klaus slaps Five is really out of place. +1
Seeing Robert Sheehan slap Aidan Gallagher. -1
Klaus pauses as if he’s listening to Ben before he picks up the snowglobe. -1
The snowglobe. Robert Sheehan pretending to be Klaus pretending to be Five’s crazy dad. Acting. -1
Five looks like a proud grandfather when Klaus gets Lance to show them the records. -1
Five doesn’t pay Klaus for that brilliant acting. Also, how was Five planning to give Klaus $20. He doesn’t have any money nor do we ever see him with money. Five is a cheapskate. +1
Klaus calls Five “old man”. I thought that was just a fandom thing lmao. -1
“You must be horny as hell”. Great Klaus line, but super weird that he’s saying it to someone that looks thirteen. +1
Klaus is wearing the shirt that goes with his nicest outfit underneath Reggie’s pinstripe suit. -1
“Goodbye Dolores”, a song from the soundtrack, starts playing when Five starts talking about Dolores. This is good placement of that song because we later learn that he left her in the apocalypse when he left to work for the Commission. -1
Five is a dick to Klaus. Klaus is really trying to connect with his long lost brother, but Five jumps away. +1
That taxi driver doesn’t freak out and cause a car accident when a random kid appears in his car. +1
Also, how did Five pay for that taxi? Did he jump out of the moving vehicle too? +1
Leonard is so obvious from the start. So charming that he’s slimy. +1
Vanya can’t see this and is actually attracted to him. This may go back to that conversation with Allison when she asks if Vanya has ever been in a relationship. For all we know, the answer is no. +1
Leonard took three years of German in prison. I don't think American jails are that nice. +1
Leonard picks up another person’s instrument without their consent. As a musician, this is very, very painful. +2
Diego is paranoid, but also observant as fuck. -1
But how did he get his weapons back from the police? Are knives open carry in whatever state this is in? There are some states where Diego’s harness would be legal so it’s possible. I’ll have to look into this. Sinning the show for being vauge as fuck. +1
Luther didn’t notice the boiler room door open. +1
Diego throws weapons on his siblings. +1
Reginald Hargreeves died March 21st. The funeral is on March 24th. This is way too soon. It should have been a week or two not two days between the date of death and the funeral. Especially considering Luther suspects Reggie was murdered. And if you say that Reggie, Pogo, or Grace bribed them, then I’m sinning for bribery.+1
Diego eats a raw egg. Salmonella headass. +2
David Castaneda eats a raw egg. Why did you make him do this? It adds nothing to the character other than making Diego look dumb as hell. +1
Vanya interrupts her student while he’s playing and doing well. Whenever my teacher does that I get a minor heart attack. +1
Leonard is already lying to Vanya. He manipulates her by saying his Dad was into music and that's why he’s taking violin lessons. +1
An actual place named “Bricktown” in a place called “The City.” Sigh. +1
It is four o’clock when Leonard takes his lesson, but then after the lesson we cut to night time. What happened in those couple hours, show? Are you really saying that these characters did nothing interesting for all that time? +1
Emmy Raver-Lampman clearly isn’t smoking. Which is fine because she’s a Broadway actress and needs her voice/lungs for that part of her career. It’s weird because it shows that Allison isn't smoking. +1
Pogo scolds Allison for her language. Allison is an adult, Pogo. +1
Klaus made a drink at a young age and Reggie didn’t stop him. Or talk to him. He recorded Klaus drinking, but didn’t care. +1
The showmakers show us Allison’s face for dramatic tension instead of showing us the tape. This was a good choice and I feel it helped the narative.-1
They show a sign “Gimbel Brothers Seniors Tuesdays 10% Off.” after Five walks by. -1
The most awkward and dopey smile in existence when Five finds Dolores. -1
They play “Goodbye Dolores” after he finds her. That could have worked if they transposed it to the major key. Hello Dolores. +1
“Goodbye Dolores” transitioning into “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen. -1
This action sequence is great. -1
Hazel’s wrist splint. -1
Five cuts Cha Cha with a trowel. -1
The dual screen thing is cool. -1
Five literally jumps over a stand and somehow doesn’t get shot. Hazel and Cha Cha have Stormtrooper aim. +1
How did Hazel and Cha Cha leave? You would think the police would notice someone leaving through the back. +1
Similarly, how did Five and Dolores get out of this? Did he wait until he could jump and teleport outside the store? Can he teleport that far? +1
How did Diego get another police scanner so quickly? Unless that’s the scanner Patch confiscated? +1
“I gotta show you something” +1
Once again, Five should be a lot sweatier. What are these magic, sweat absorbing things you can buy in a department store and where can I buy them? +1
Five sees an eyeball and immediately picks it up for no reason. He doesn’t even know that’s Luther’s body yet. He just picked up an eye for no reason. +1
Five as a thirteen-year-old boy saw his siblings' dead bodies. Sinning for trauma. +1
Aidan Gallagher portrays this trauma well. -1
Overall Review:
I love this episode and had a hard time finding things wrong with it. I genuinely like this episode and I think that it could have stood alone as the pilot.
Some acting things I noticed, David Castaneda, John Magaro (Leonard), and Ashley Madekwe were the standouts this episode. All three brought something interesting to the table this episode and I look forward to re-watching their scenes. I wish Madekwe and Magaro all the best as I know that they probably won’t be returning for season two.
The plot thickens! Hazel and Cha Cha were introduced in a very obvious way compared to the subtle way they introduced Leonard. There is a reason I adore this episode, and it’s not just for Klaus slapping Five (though that is part of it).
Total: 52
Sentence: We saw Diego eat a raw egg. That’s punishment enough for this episode.

Congratulations, DOM! You’ve been accepted for the role of HELENUS. Admin Jen: You have no idea how overjoyed we were to finally receive an application for Helenus, and Dom, you completely blew our expectations out of the water! I thoroughly enjoyed reading about what drew you towards Hugo; your passion really shone through and to see that it wasn’t directed solely towards him but towards so many other characters, it left me so thrilled to see all that your portrayal has to offer -- and it surely didn’t disappoint. The interview was fantastic, but I have to admit, it was the plots that had me sold on your Hugo. They were so intricate and well thought-out and I was living for the duality you explored in Hugo’s relationships with Roman and Halcyon. Trust me when I say that I cannot wait to see it all come to life on the dash! Please read over the checklist and send in your blog within 24 hours.
WELCOME TO THE MOB.

Character | Helenus / Hugo Kim
What drew you to this character? | Honestly it was the relationship between him and Halcyon, who I know is Hippolyta from a Midsummer’s Night Dream, but struck me - within the context of Troilus and Cressida - reminded me the Greek’s relationship with Helen. This kind of fascination by people towards another person they confuse with the sublime is kind of incredible, and always misunderstanding, and generally tragic. Like Pierre, with Natasha, in War & Peace. I think Anne Carson does the most justice towards characters like Helen by acknowledging them as a characters that cannot be acknowledged - she is too large for those around her, and too large for the text itself (and its author) to understand her completely. For all her brightness, she is shrouded by accidental but inevitable misreading. I’d like to work with that misreading, and I think it would be fun to play with being confused like that.
That being said, I’m also interested in his relationship with Roman Montague. Who if Hippolyta is a sun to Helenus, then Romeo must be a warm spot at home. There exists a potential for a type of softness between them that I think could catalyze a really interesting stronghold for both of them.
I’ve read Troilus and Cressida of course, and all I remember of Helenus was his dual occupation as a priest in a soldier’s camp. He’s barely mentioned or active in the text - He has one line I think, against Troilus in their debate about returning Helen or not, and one off-hand description of him by Panderus in a line-up of men Cressida asks about. He’s not a soldier, and is not expected to fight, nor does Paris (?) arm him I think. The text is never kind to him. It reminds us time and time again that Helenus is not a soldier, and because of that, a coward. I don’t think anyone was supposed to be sympathetic to him until I read your adaptation of him. The line Troilus snipes at him with: “You are but dreams and slumbers, Brother Priest” takes on a much more poignant meaning with Diverona’s new addition of gentleness. It’s not so much an insult, but a reason why Helenus probably won’t last long in this war, the kind person he is now he’ll wake up from someday, him not much more than dream.
Also don’t get me started on debt, and brothers, and goodliness in the face of extreme acts of violence by your own hands.
Excited to work with Easton - Edmund is one of my favorite characters from Shakespeare’s list, and seems like another fun personality to work with. Damned brothers. Maybe Easton’s got some points.
What is a future plot idea you have in mind for the character? |
Where do you see this character developing, and what kind of actions would you have them take to get there? 3 future plot ideas would be preferable.
IT WILL COME BACK:
Even since his brother’s death, he’s been spinning the story. It wasn’t him who pulled the trigger, but the thug. His father, the only other person alive who knows, has retreated into himself. And the Capulets’ are more than ready to help their pastor keep his secret - assigning Albert’s death to a nameless criminal, and keeping the theft of Hugo’s store an uncomplicated,  and more importantly, anonymous tragedy. This way Hugo accumulates pathos and stays out of jail. But one day, his father drinking, a slip of the tongue from one of the higher ups - and all of Verona knows the pastor they’ve trusted is guilty of fratricide. It suddenly comes to light that Hugo is Cain, not Abel, and if Hugo can’t even be his brother’s keeper, how can he possibly hope to keep the faith of his congregation?
HACYLON AND ON AND ON:
Hugo admits to himself he has feelings for Roman, the Montague. But with every favor Hacylon asks of him, it cleaves him further and further from his fair-hearted love. If Halcyon is a woman written large, something centric, around which people can’t help but rotate around like she’s the North Star, then though what she asks feels immoral, she’s what must redeem Hugo. She’s what reminds him he belongs in the shadows, not lit by the sweet torch of Roman’s look. Hugo had stumbled what must be miracles, Roman and Halcyon independently,  and finds himself too impure in the aftermath. However, when Halcyon asks him to do something that will bring Hugo to the brink of a life already full of wickedness, will he stay his hand?
GO WITH GOD:
Hugo has become comfortable in his dual role as pastor and soldier. Days he can openly denounce what he does in secret at night. Sure, a few people know his secret, like his brothers in arms, and most of the upper forces of the Capulets, but he is working off his debt and soon he’ll be free to try a true repentance. All he’s doing now he can tip the scales back from again, with hard work and prayer for the rest of his life not spent in the Capulet’s debt. He is working off his brother’s labor, and what’s more biblical than that? Then one day the Capulets strongly urge Hugo to start writing into his sermons a Capulet bent, turning his services from neutral arguments for peace to a more propagandistic tint. If preaching and helping others is all that Hugo has left, then what will he offer to not sacrifice that respite?
Some other plot ideas include him getting addicted to Measure by Measure fighting, him overhearing some plot at To Tame a Soup, and Hugo maybe starting his own web of debts, starting with Lawrence.
Are you comfortable with killing off your character? | Of course. If it makes sense.
In Depth
Please choose between the interview or the para sample (or both, if you like!)
In-Character Interview: The following questions must be answered in-character, and in para form (quotations, actions written out if applicable, etc). There is no minimum or maximum limit for your response - simply answer as you would if you were playing the character.
What is your favorite place in Verona? |
If this weren’t a Capulet interview, if this weren’t the first of many an annual interview gauging his psychological state as a soldier, Hugo would have grinned, leaned in close, and joked ‘Measure by Measure.’ He’d only be half-joking of course, and the uncertainty of whether he was telling the truth or not would add the perfect amount of charming deviance to make his conversational partner - probably from his congregation - chuckle nervously and then louder. They’d hit his arm with the same coquettish flavor, and say something about youth pastors being too agreeable nowadays, and they remember when priests were people to be scared of. Not him. God turns the other cheek. And so do the guys getting knocked out in the ring. Haha, joking.
No, but this wasn’t a question from a parishioner, and was an official Capulet interview, so Hugo unfolded his hands with a nervous, you-got-me shrug. “To Tame A Soup. Well - maybe that comes as a surprise. I could’ve said the church.”
He could’ve said the restaurant. A few years ago he would’ve. He loved the wall the lights splattered onto the floor in little bushels of pale, creamy yellow like somewhere to fall asleep in. They’d let cats come in and sleep in the sun pockets, to the shock of some customers. Splattered like his mother onto the floor. He’d scrubbed out the blood, not his father, not the Capulets. He’d seen the white turn pink when the light hit in the morning.
“But what can I say? I love my church as well. I’m as predictable as I seem. I like helping people. Maybe To Tame A Soup was the wrong thing to say. I know it’s in Montague territory, but it’s a good place set up to help the good people of Verona in need. That’s something above territory. It’s esteemed.”
What does your typical day look like?
Hugo nods his head back and forth, like the day’s hypotheticals are rolling out in front of him so he can best read it off. “Well first I have to open the restaurant, which means counting the safe to figure out how much money is in the restaurant before first shifts, filling the register, making first deposit…prep work for breakfast and lunch, all the heavy-duty cleaning, setting up tables — Dad’s still the owner, of course, but after the robbery it’s just easier for me to open, as long as I’m home from school anyways.
“Unless it’s Sunday, which means I’m at church by six to prepare for a seven thirty service and I’ll be there the whole day.
“Otherwise the restaurant keeps me pretty busy… Inventory, cash control, food cost analysis, etc. And in the minutes I can squirrel away to myself, I’m still usually drafting sermons for the next week.” Hugo wonders if his interviewer can hear the envy drifting into his voice. His life sounds boring, normal. He finds himself salivating over what he’s invented for himself, wants to continue listing things that don’t involve blood, or debts, debts paid off by blood. None of what he’s saying is untrue, it’s just separate, distinct. Good, honest work. He takes a breath back to composure.
“I donate whatever time I can but —” Hugo bites his lip. “My day isn’t really my own. I’m mostly where I’m sent.” Nights he doesn’t sleep well. He paces. He cracks his knuckles in a distracted, painful way. Goes out and wanders the streets, watches people silhouette their windows. Catalogues the city into dangers.
“Which is a blessing in and of its own, I suppose. Routine is just another word for complacency. Or so I’ve been told. And in a grander sense, the day is a duty I’m happy to serve.”
What has been your biggest mistake thus far?
Oh religion and its capacities for accountability. Guilt. On a more realistic, fundamental level, maybe the mistake had been going away to seminary school. Straying his eye away from his brother. Letting one, two, three years go by with not a single word traded between them. The egotism, the pride of turning to God by turning his back on his family. If he wasn’t being punished, then…maybe it had been thinking any of them, even his family, could escape the conflict that had consumed even the best hidden corners of Verona like air. More literally, if he hadn’t fallen asleep that night, lulled into a demonstrably false sense of safety. He doesn’t blame Albert, victim of a system —
Hugo blinks out of it, shifting in his seat. He looks over his interviewer again. “Biggest mistake. Yes. Hm. I find myself failing on the pulpit. People are scared. And unforgiving. Without remorse, this city’s come to gorging on itself. I think I’ve slipped into preaching — I don’t mean to lecture you — but there’s no room for forgiveness when there’s no impetus to feel remorse for the enemy blood that’s been spilled. I’m not sure how to help Verona see itself as a city of brothers and sisters again. I feel —even worse, I see — the consequences of that failure every day.”
What has been the most difficult task asked of you?
Hugo catches himself, faltered and recovered in an instant. He should know better. The questions seem routine, and he knows he knows how to keep it together.
“I guess it would depend on what we define as something capable of asking. Who asked what of me? God? My brother? The gun, that had the trigger? My mother? Did she ask of me, in heaven? You of course know what happened. I’m not trying to make you uncomfortable, I’m just trying to understand the question.” Halcyon?
Keep it general. Keep it a parable. Lessons of moral inequality are never unexpected from him, and seem to put people at ease.
“Verona asks me to walk a difficult path every day. And Verona asks we go nowhere for help. The city has built itself so that no one leaves the same way they came in. I don’t know if that’s the most difficult thing asked of me - or of you - but it’s the most prominent.”
What are your thoughts on the war between the Capulets and the Montagues?
A soft smile. Hugo thinks about Halcyon, and from her lips sweet as antifreeze, new marching orders. “Of course any endorsement of war would be immoral. Blood waters tragedy. That’s not saying anything new.” It hits him that a smile might not have been appropriate.
“But I don’t think it’s traitorous to admit either. I’m loyal to the Capulets, that’s never been in question. Leaders who discourage complicated emotion towards violence in their name should employ animals, loyal only to violence, not men. The Capulets have given me the gift of loyalty by accepting me into their ranks ..no matter the reason.. and that alone cements my allegiance, even if I don’t always agree with…all this.”
“War, more than anything, is a set of volatile conditions.” Hugo focuses on his hands, moving them in a haphazard pattern, an airplane crash. “I’m realistic enough, neutral enough — and I guess some might mistake that for ambivalence, but — I’m realistic enough to question who of us will survive it, especially those of us small enough our stepping on will go unnoticed. Little ants in the atomic blast. I’m trying to say, the flock, especially, is who I’m worried about, not so much the lions laying down with them. Even me.” He smiles again.
