Skulker/Ember - Hunter's Flame

(immediately after the events of "Girls' Night Out")

Suffering defeat at the hands of the dipstick was humiliating enough. Suffering defeat at the hands of the dipstick's loser humans was even worse.

Ember leaned back into the couch and rolled her neck. Being stuck in that stupid thermos always gave her a nasty crick in the neck. At least the girlfriend, the one with the killer fashion sense, had enough decency to let her and Kitty and Spectra out sooner rather than later. Now instead of excruciating pain, she was only in severe pain.

Physically, at least. Mentally, the pain was definitely excruciating.

Especially knowing she'd had to slink her way through the Badlands with her tail between her legs... back to Skulker's place. Who, the last time she'd seen him, had gotten into a huge fight with her.

Surprisingly though, Skulker wasn't in his home. Nor was he anywhere on his island.

Which was a shame, because if this humiliating defeat had done anything, it'd made her realize she needed to tell him a few things. Which... would also be majorly embarrassing.

Not to mention that the longer he didn't show, the more of her nerve she lost.

Something clattered loudly in the kitchen. Ember immediately sat up (and winced when her neck protested it).

"Ancients, I swear if another one of his stupid 'trophies' found its way in here again..." she grumbled as she stormed off to investigate.

What she found, though, was not one of the many animals roaming the island, but a little green blob ghost rooting around in a drawer.

"Hey! Get out of here!" Blob ghosts were commonplace enough that they usually staked out a claim around ghosts' lairs, but usually they knew to stay out of the lair proper, let alone dig around in private places within the lair.

She shot a little bolt of energy at it - nothing strong enough to harm it. The shot hit and the blob...

... squealed?

"waitwaitwait!"

Blob ghosts also didn't usually talk.

Still with energy called up, she approached where the blob had fallen out of the drawer after getting hit. "What the...?"

"it's me, it's me! don't shoot me!"

"Aaaand, I'm supposed to know you?"

The blob ghost finally righted itself and stood on tiny little legs she hadn't seen before. It zipped up to meet her at eye level.

"yes! it's me, skulker!"

"... Huh?"

The blob ghost - Skulker, apparently - rolled his eyes. "yes, okay? this..." He sagged, dejected. "look, this is me, alright? my true form..."

Ember's eyes narrowed. "Really, huh? That's awfully convenient, how am I supposed to know you're really Skulker?"

He sighed and crossed his teeny arms with a huff. "because... because i went out on a hunt for you. to... make up for the whole tv remote thing, alright?"

Her core stuttered. "Ancients, is that really you? And - whoa whoa, wait. You went on a hunt? But what happened to... everything?" She waved a hand around his body.

"it's my ecto-skeleton. it makes me more... formidable. helps me hunt." He wouldn't meet her eyes as he rubbed a hand up and down his arm. "i didn't want it to be a big deal. especially with..."

"With... me?" Static filled her brain. "But why?"

"why? what do you mean, why? because why would a powerful ghost like you even look twice at a whelp like me?" His cheeks darkened as he spoke. "i was embarrassed, alright? i didn't want you to laugh and throw me aside, because i l- uhh, i care about... what you think of me."

"Hey, hey, chill out metalhead," she said. The pet name finally made him look up at her, and she offered a tiny smile and an outstretched hand. Warily, Skulker settled into the palm of her hand and yes, now that she was in contact with him, she could feel that this really was him.

"you... you're not mad?" he asked, almost sounding like he couldn't even dare himself to ask.

"Mad?" She scoffed. "'Course I'm mad, I'm pissed! You've been lying to me this whole time!"

"... oh."

"But I don't hate you," she said, and this time, her smile widened. "Look, I realized some things over the weekend, and if you were serious about trying to make up for the remote, then... well, I can't exactly hate you after that, you know?"

He looked up again. "really? you're... okay with this?"

"Obviously." She rolled her eyes, but the smile remained. "And... as much as it pains me to say, I'm... sorry for calling you a bad hunter. I shouldn't have gotten so close to your core like that. Not when you're someone I, er, care about a lot too."

Carefully, she leaned down and planted a little kiss on the top of his blobby head. When she pulled away, she couldn't help but laugh at his stunned face.

"So," she said, mischief dancing in her voice. "Let me guess. You went after the kid, didn't you?"

"... oh, just help me find the key to my backup shed."

btw i finished designing all 16 of my planned dr ocs! these r still rough sketches obviously and i plan to clean them up and make ref sheets later but i imagine that will take me a while so... in the meantime..

Metal Lords was a p cute movie. and i got thoughts and idk who to tell

im a metalhead and i dont think even id like to hang with hunter as he is in the beginning. I know a lot about the bands i like but im excited about telling my friends about em, not trynna make em feel bad and like they gotta catch up

hunter is a shit head kid tho and defo is still learning to be a person and of course has totally grown a bunch by the end of the movie. (still got growing to do but that the journey of life all the way thru) Speaking of shit head and doing a full send into bad person territory; the number of slayer shits is totally a red flag but i was glad they didnt play any of their music. having the shirts does make sense for the character, hes been into metal for only a few years and they are huge and an intro for lots of people.

i feel like the vibe’s so different with different sub genres because i like power and folk mostly. so I like dumb funny bands and so do my buddies i talk metal with. even with death metal i only listen to the bands i know were a bunch of nerds having fun not taking themselves WAY too seriously (if you know who im talking about apparently he still hasnt chilled). i was stoked to see dnd in the movie because the overlap between those groups is a big one. more in the metal heads like drama and gravitas and pretend direction than the dnd peeps like metal way i think?

speaking genres. its a funny scene to say theyre a post death doom metal band but i dont think they are? they play too fast to be doom. the lyrics and tone could be doom there’s definitely despair and distortion but its doesnt distort in the way i think of doom. I’ll admit im not an expert, the closest i get to doom in my everyday listening is sludge metal so maybe im being to harsh in looking for a thicker sound

almost all the bands on the poster who clearly are influences on the band are heavy metal, thrash metal and NWOBHM. (the official netflix playlist on spotify also is these genres) hell he’s even got a Ghost BC poster and they’re rock, metalheads just like their spooky vibe. there is a Black dahlia and two other posters i couldnt read which probably means death metal. but the point is most of their influences are Heavy Metal and that comes thru. as Lordi would say ��Now this is heavy metal!”

the story itself is good too but i just got that much to say about it. got a good moral? its most metal to be confident in yourself and not just conform to what the stereotype of a metalhead is because that’s still basing yourself on others. be nice to people cause if your being a dick why do you think your any better than that jock whos also a dick. 

its a coming of age movie with a banging sound track. 

I want a traditional man but in an 80s skater slasher film stoner ghost hunter rock collector metalhead kind of way instead of a wifebeater kind of way

Not much of an ask, but I started listening to ghost because of you and I am so in love with Hunters Moon and Dance Macabre! They just speak to the angsty teenage metalhead I was and the glam 80s style that I love. They're like nostalgia for something I've never known.

The Moon

Moonlight Sonata 3rd movement – Mozart (Classical)

This is the last movement Mozart wrote for his Moonlight Sonata. This is actually my favorite of the movements and have been listening to this piece for years. This piece is very fast and exciting which in musical terms means presto agitato. This playlist of songs is all centered on the theme of the moon, but this song even without words one cannot relate this piece to the moon. After doing some research apparently the piece is about approaching death.

Hunter’s Moon – Ghost (Rock)

This is one of my favorite bands. I’m a huge metalhead, but I like listening to other genres such as rap, EDM, and classical. This song was actually part of the credits in the movie Halloween Kills which is about a serial killer named Michael Myers. A Hunter's moon is a name for the full moon in October hunters in the past knew that this was the perfect time to hunt due to the game being fat for the coming winter.

Aim For The Moon – Pop Smoke ft. Quavo (Rap)

Another song is about the moon, but this song is talking about the moon metaphorically. This song is all about “Aiming for the Moon” meaning trying to be successful like how people say “Aim for the stars” and so on. Just like most of the songs on this playlist It has a very fast tempo and the lyrics are very fast as well.

Fly Me To The Moon – Frank Sinatra (Jazz)

Just like “Aim For The Moon” this song also talks about the moon but in a metaphorical way. This song actually is about how being close to his lover makes him feel like he’s flying to the moon. Compared to the other songs this song is a lot slower in tempo and its dynamic is also a lot quieter. There are parts when the dynamic comes up but quickly goes down and stays in one level.

Moon Is Up – Rolling Stones (Folk)

Fun fact about this song the drummer Charlie Watts played the drums using a trash can which is completely different than what most people are used to listening to when thinking about drums. The only other band that I know that did something different is Slipknot which used kegs and trash cans. This song is completely focused on the trash cans the song is very mellow and quiet as well but the song is completely overshadowed by the drummer.

Moon Trance – Lindsey Stirling (Electronic)

Since middle school, I have loved listening to Lindsey Stirling. She is known for playing her violin with electronic. A classical instrument like a violin and electronic music have nothing in common, she makes her violin blend with the electronic music in almost perfect harmony. Since Electronic music is almost always upbeat and has a fast tempo she also steps up her violin playing by keeping up with the fast tempo and also uses the same rhythm the electronic beat is on.

relevant information that very few people will see but i am trying to get ahead of the storm: i still mean every single word in the old mulaney post. he was not a bad person for getting a divorce or meeting someone else and having a kid, and the people who tried to cancel him for it are weird wierdos. he is, however, a thoughtless piece of shit for platforming a transphobe and THAT is a perfectly fine reason to kick him to the curb and never look back.

it doesn’t matter that he doesn’t do transphobic jokes himself, he took a stand to endorse this type of material and in doing so showed exactly how much respect he has for his fans who are trans, which is none whatsoever. in his world it’s more important that possibly the richest comedian in the world gets to continue spouting 4chan punchlines from 2007 than his supporters in the lgbtq community feeling safe. and i don’t mean safe as in “not confronted with hurtful jokes”, i mean safe as in “not fearing for their actual physical safety”. john mulaney can choke, offically.

I'm back on this thing i guess (Question Mark), yay!

Ghost - Impera Ghost is one of the most polarizing and interesting bands in hard-rock and metal that’s cropped up in a very long time. Most people either love this band or absolutely hate them, there’s not much in between. I haven’t heard of a band that’s gotten so much polarization in a long time, but it could be due to the fact that there’s this stupid debate of whether or not they’re “metal.” They dabble in hard rock and metal akin to early Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motorhead, and bands like that, so there’s this back and forth with the “trve kvlt metalheads” on whether or not they belong in the genre. Personally, I don’t care, they’re metal, through and through, as not all metal needs to be death metal or black metal. Random tangent, but metalheads have this weird idea that metal can’t be accessible or catchy, aside from Iron Maiden or Judas Priest. Bands can’t have hooks, or not be an extreme metal band of some kind. Ghost don’t have a super “heavy” sound, but they remind me of that sweet spot of when hard-rock was blossoming into what would become heavy metal of the 1980s. That’s a sound I personally love, but they have been leaning more into the hard-rock side of their sound, but that doesn’t make them any less “metal.” The idea of what’s metal and what’s not metal is so dumb, but that’s the fanbase for you, right? Anyway, when Ghost announced their new album, Impera, after dropping the very good Prequelle in 2018, a lot of people were curious it, myself including. I’ve always liked Ghost, personally, especially their penchant for 70s hard-rock /  heavy metal sounds and ideas. They have this really cool aesthetic behind them, too, and they’re just a captivating band for me. Unfortunately, when Impera came out a few weeks ago, I heard a lot of mixed reactions on it. Some people really loved it, and go figure, some people didn’t like it, so I was apprehensive, hence why it’s taken me so long to listen to it. I’ve been spending the last week with it, give or take, so how I fall on this album. Impera, well, is a solid album, and I very much enjoy it, but it’s kind of a mixed bag. This album has mostly songs I love, and I don’t know if that’s in the minority there, but there are some prime cuts on this thing. “Call Me Little Sunshine” is a lot of fun, “Hunter’s Moon,” “A Watcher In The Sky,” “Spillways,” and many more tracks are awesome, but there are some songs that I just don’t care for. There are a couple of pointless interludes that do absolutely nothing to further the album, and songs like “Twenties” have painful lyrics that aren’t very good (kind of because they’re on the nose, and I don’t really come to Ghost for political commentary; there are plenty of other bands that I go to for that, but Ghost is more of an idea, they’re more theatrics, not a political force to be reckoned with), so the album just has this weird aura for me. The songs I like, or even love, definitely outnumber the ones I don’t, but no songs on this album are even “bad.” They’re just “meh.” Impera is one of those records that I listen to the whole way through, but I check out for a few minutes when a song plays that I don’t care for as much. When I do get to one I really like, I get very excited, and waiting through the “meh” is worth it. I don’t know if anyone else does that same thing, but I can get through the decent songs on here, especially when I get to the songs I really, really like. All in all, Ghost’s Impera is a strange little album, because when it’s good, it’s really good, but at worst, there are just some decent songs. Clocking in at 46 minutes, it really doesn’t need to be that long. You could have cut a few songs, especially those pointless interludes, and you wouldn’t have lost anything. If the album was around 38 to 40 minutes, it’d be a very strong release, but that’s also because the album is sort of all over the place. There’s no sense of cohesion here, even though the songs all fall under the same umbrella, being that 70s hard-rock / heavy metal sound, but the album has no real sense of flow. It just sounds like a bunch of singles in a compilation, which isn’t a bad thing in itself, but it’s such a strange album. I don’t know what the band were going for here, but if they just trimmed a few songs, this could have really been great. To be fair, I do think it’s an overall great album, I really enjoy it, but it’s not going to be very, very high on my AOTY list, which kind of sucks, only because Prequelle was honestly a lot better and I sung the praises out of that album when it came out.

Mutsuki jumped as, without so much as a sound of footsteps to warn him, the heavy wooden door swung open with a creak. He was met with a tiny, ghost-white stranger with straight black hair framing and obscuring their face, who stared right up at him with big, reddish eyes and a playful smile. Easily as it could be explained away with fatigue and tricks of the light, their grin looked just a little off, canines just a little too sharp to look perfectly natural. “Hello!” they said, drawing out the 'o' almost musically as they grinned at him. “What brings a sweet thing like you out into the sticks?” //

Mutsuki and his van of fellow vampire hunters break down in the middle of Nowhere, Texas during a thunderstorm and the only help for miles resides in a spooky old castle that calls a fun-loving leather metalhead vampire by the name of Suzuya Juuzou its master.
