Melvin Feller Business Consultants Discusses Business Disclosure Statements and What to Avoid

Buying a business opportunity, franchise, licensee opportunity or distributorship is a big decision, one you should not take lightly. Thankfully, there are some serious regulations in place at the federal level as well as within many states that are designed to protect you from making a bad decision or being taken in by a fraudulent enterprise, starting with the critically important disclosure statement.
The disclosure statement is a document that any seller of a business opportunity, franchise or similar concern is required to provide to you as a potential buyer by law.  It details everything you need to and should know about the business in question and must be given to you if not during the first “personal meeting,” then within a specified timeframe.  Although the disclosure requirements as delineated by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) are considerable, those set forth by the 26+ states that also have them do not overrule them.  So be certain to check the regulations in your state in addition to those of the FTC before you sign on the dotted line or give the seller any money.
Remember, oral statements, exchanges or promises that are made to you by the seller or between the two of you are not legally binding!  This is precisely why knowing what comprises a comprehensive disclosure statement is so important.
So here it is, a brief overview of what a truly solid disclosure statement should contain as stipulated by the FTC:
Tumblr media
Name under which the seller is doing business, including such particulars as trademarks, trade names and service marks, et al.
Five-year or more retrospective of principal players’ business experience, as well as any parent firms
Seven-year retrospective re: any legal entanglements involving either the principals or the company, including such things as fraud, felonies, civil actions, et al.
Past seven-year fiscal profile to include bankruptcy, insolvency, etc.
Factual description of the enterprise being sold
Clear statement of total funds to be paid by the buyer and under what conditions, as well as any refund policy
Clear statement of any recurring funds to be paid, for what purpose, at what intervals and under what conditions
Required affiliations between the buyer and any other concerns as set forth by the seller
Required purchases, leases or rentals as set forth by the seller
Clear accounting of the financial implications for the seller as a result of buyer arrangements with identified suppliers or other concerns
Material terms and conditions of any financing arrangements between the seller and the buyer
Clear statement of facts re: goods and services for sale, potential customers and/or geographic parameters for the sale of allowed goods and services, as well as any agreement with regard to protected markets/territories
Clarity on expectations re: direct operation of the purchased enterprise and by whom
Tumblr media
Details re: duration of the arrangement between the seller and buyer, renewal, extension, termination, modification, sale, refusal to renew or extend, etc.
Total profile of affiliated concerns to date, with emphasis on those nearest to the potential buyer’s intended locale, including contact information for referrals
Role of the seller, if any, in site selection for the enterprise
In-depth review of initial and ongoing training program(s) and what can be expected
Tumblr media
Public figure affiliation (on the part of the seller) disclosure, if applicable
Most recent fiscal year financial statement (balance sheet), as well as other income-related documents as specified.
In addition, the FTC stipulates that a number of CAUTION notice be included in the disclosure statement, just to ensure there is no confusion as to what is being promised.  Where you see one, pay attention.  Finally, any seller of a business opportunity, franchise, licensee opportunity or distributorship that promises you a specific level of income is doing so at their own peril, unless the context in which they are providing the information meets with some specific requirements.  For a more in-depth look at what those are, as well as the overall disclosure statement content as prescribed by the FTC that is outlined here, please click on the Commission’s Disclosure Requirements and Prohibitions Concerning Franchising and Business Opportunity Ventures webpage now.

MVP Points
After completing various goals, you will get a message stating that you have earned MVP Points. Enter the “MVP Rewards Checklist” screen in “My MVP” to check how many points you have earned, and how many are needed to unlock the various bonuses. You will earn twice as many MVP Points on the Pro difficulty setting, three times as many on the All-Star difficulty setting, and four times as many on the MVP difficulty setting. Also, MVP points are not awarded when games are simulated. The classic players that are unlocked will begin at age 30 and will age and retire like other players.
Get Any Player
To get any player on your team in dynasty mode, create an outfielder with the best stats. Sign him as cheap as you can for one year. You can trade him for any player (for example A-Rod, Mark Prior, etc.)
Barry Bonds
Go to “Edit Player” and select Jon Dowd of the San Francisco Giants. Change his number and name to Barry Bonds #25. His name will be annoucned when he comes to the plate for San Francisco, and all of his statistics are already in the game as “Jon Dowd”.
Cheap Perfect Player
Create a player with all desired information. Leave his attributes exactly as is. Then, go to “Free Agents”. Sign that player to a long cheap contract. Then, go to create/edit again and change the player’s attributes to make him perfect.
Infinite MVP Points
Reach a desired level of MVP points to spend on a player, stadium, or throwback jersey. Use them to unlock a bonus, then save your roster. Do not save your profile. Instead, reload your profile. Your MVP points will be at their pre-purchase amount. Use them to continue buying as many other bonuses as desired.Select dynasty mode and choose the Yankees. Turn off injuries, trades, rain outs, and budget. Set the difficulty on MVP. Simulate to the last game of each month. On that game, choose to simulate it (not quick sim; choose "Play" then "Sim"). Stop the simulation at the top of the ninth inning and choose to manage the remainder of the game. Do this for every month for the rest of the season. When the season ends, and you see "Advance To Playoffs", save the dynasty. Then, choose "Advance To Playoffs". Each time it will show your points earned.(about 13,000 to 17,000). Do not save after this. Exit dynasty mode, then keep re-entering and choosing "Advance To Playoffs". Each time you do this, you will get that same MVP point amount put into your profile.Note: This trick requires multiple memory cards. Once you reach the desired amount of MVP points (5,000 recommend), save your profile to multiple memory cards. You may now choose an unlockable for each profile. You will have as many MVP points on each one as you did at the start. You can use these points to unlock whatever you desire. Note: If you unlock a player, immediately go to "Team Management" then to "Free Agents". The player should be on the list. Assign him to whatever team you want (you do not have to sign him). Do this with each profile. When you are done, you can start a dynasty and all players will be on the teams you assigned them to.Start a dynasty with a team that can make the playoffs (for example, the Yankees). Simulate all the way to the last series, then save the dynasty. Then, simulate to the playoffs then advance to the playoffs. Save your profile (not dynasty). Exit the dynasty and you should have between 5,000 to 10,000 MVP points. Do the same thing as many times as desired to unlock everything.
Legendary Players
Make a profile. Then get 5000 reward points. Save your profile. Go to the rewards, pick a player, then save your rosters. You can do this to get anything in the rewards. This will not get legendary teams. It’s just fun to play with Babe ruth or Nolan Ryan.
Cheats
Great Cheat
Create a player named Nick Roy and make sure to save the player and your profile to unlock all MVP Rewards.
Ultimate Player
Go to create a player. His first name Jacob and his last name Paterson. Make him a “Free Agent” and in Dynasty Mode get rid of one of your players. Look for him in “Free Agents” and select him. He has a huge bat and almost every time he’s up he nails a homer!
Bad Player
Create a player and enter “Erik Kiss” as a name. Every time he swings he will break his bat and send a little dribbler to the pitcher for a sure out. Also, you cannot bunt with him; it will just go foul.

Mel Feller MPA, MHR Looks at Improving Any Business Leadership Team
Mel Feller MPA, MHR Looks at Improving Any Business Leadership Team
According to Mel Feller, an entrepreneur and business specialist and investor, leadership is a proven and tried method for rediscovering your excellence in business and life. As Mel Feller explains, some days, you are drowning in an ocean of business decisions. Others, you are looking at the desert and hoping for an oasis. Therefore, since you are creative, your leadership skills need both practice and learning. Here are several methods for leadership ideas to get the idea river overflowing To be a great and effective leader, you need to be very clear on your vision, and what actions you need to take to turn your vision into a reality.
Tumblr media
Moreover, like an organization or a team, to be an effective leader, you need to focus on the few key areas that will have the highest impact on turning your vision and goals into a reality. Although this word is offensive to some, ultimately, we are talking about winning. In addition, as any good coach will tell you, to win, you need to be willing to learn and then practice what you learn. The more you are willing to learn and the harder you are willing to practice, the more successful you will become.
When you look at your company, you see leaders that can get things done and really motivate the people around them. Supervisors, forepersons, managers, and executives all have a major impact on your company. However, what if those leaders suddenly left? What happens when those stars go out? Do you have qualified employees that could fill the gap? Is your bench deep enough to play on and win the game? Have you prepared your top performers to be the leaders of tomorrow? One of the measures of healthy organizations is how comfortable they feel replacing key leadership positions with their own employees. Unfortunately, most of us only look at the people standing right in front of us, and when something happens we make a mad scramble to survive.
Leadership development should not be restricted to existing leaders. Having a healthy population of future leaders in the organization can be the biggest insurance for success.
You need to ask, “What about tomorrow?”
You could fill the spot with a new hire, but the difference in cost between promoting leaders from within and trying to find an external candidate can be amazingly high and comes with  many hidden problems, especially in these tough economic times. At the same time, hiring someone from outside of the organization does have benefits. It can offer new ideas and new perspectives on old issues, and it creates a healthy influx of productive energy, but should that be your first option? Here are some drawbacks to making outside hiring your number one option:
Tumblr media
  Recruiting Cost
Finding a qualified, knowledgeable leader takes time and money. Recruiting, interviewing, and testing, even if done in house, comes at a high price. The cost of recruiting a new hire and training them can reach multiples of the employee’s annual salary.
Recruiting internally cuts down on the cost and shows your employees that you value their skills at least as well as those of outsiders.
Tumblr media
A new candidate takes a number of weeks to learn the culture and work flow of a new organization. During that time, the individual is in a period of negative production.
If the person does not work out in the position, the cost of training and replacement can be as much as 3 times the annual salary of the position. By the time, employers learn that the employee might not work out, it’s past the probation period and damage is already done.
 Cultural Adjustment
All companies have a unique set of values, character, and culture. A new candidate comes from a completely different culture and may or may not fit into yours. Interviews and resumes will not show the adaptability of leaders, even if they come from the same line of business. A conflict of values can quickly become a drain on company resources and takes a long time to remedy. The result is most often a demoralized work group. So if hiring leaders externally is cost prohibitive, how do you get out of that cycle? What can you do to develop your most promising performers? You need to ask yourself, “Are there individuals internally that could do the same thing by being moved or promoted?”
If the answer is no, then you need to start developing. Now! The most effective way to create your leaders of the future is a professionally developed training plan; but
If you are not ready for that step and you need to make some moves quickly. Here are a few tips to start the process:
  Start a Mentoring Program
Identify your top performers, identify your top leaders, and get them together. A once-a-week meeting to discuss what the leader does and how he or she is dealing with issues that arise can expose your employees to what being a leader means - and give them an incentive to apply it to their own positions. It will also encourage them to take the initiative for self-development.
Tumblr media
Project Share
Let your top leaders identify some projects or portions of projects that they can delegate to your potential leaders. The idea is not only to develop the skills needed to complete the tasks, but it also gives them exposure to greater levels of responsibility and lets you evaluate their talents and skills.
  Keep People Moving
If it’s possible for you to shuffle people between departments, offer it. Give people the option to try a new area of the company. Not only will they be learning a new skill set, but also their understanding of the entire business will expand, which is a critical aspect of leadership. In the end, this will reduce your training cost for new leaders.
  Get to Know Your Employees
Do you know what your employees’ professional aspirations are? Do you know what they really want to do for the company? Do you even know their capabilities? A simple questionnaire can offer you incredibly valuable information on their past experience, skills, and performance desires. Aside from helping you to identify who might be a future leader, it can also help remedy the problem of the right person in the wrong position.
  Build Your Own Library
Invest in some personal development audio or video tapes, DVDs, books, or computer-based training tools. There are lots of titles and topics available. Offer these to your employees for check out. The real performers will take advantage of it. This is a cost effective way to train employees with minimal startup cost and no labor, as the training will take place on their own time.
You can also offer “Lunch Box Learning” and show one of the short programs during the lunch hour.
Tumblr media
These are just a few of the ways to motivate your top performers into becoming tomorrow’s leaders.
The benefit of having well developed leadership skills in your employees will far outweigh the cost of putting these programs in place.
If you do not develop your top performers, they will not be your top performers for long. Soon you will be stuck with a bench full of liabilities. The question you need to ask yourself is not, “What happens if I develop them and they leave?”
The question you need to ask is, “What happens if I don’t develop them and they stay?”
Leadership takes practice. Leadership is not something you practice once and become a master at. Nevertheless, how much practice does it take to become a great leader? Malcolm Gladwell, in his book Outliers, gives us the 10,000-hour rule. Based on Gladwell’s research of people who have reached an expert level so profound that others would describe them as great, it takes about 10,000 hours of studying and practicing the art or the task. That would be more than five years’ worth of full time work, with each hour dedicated to practicing leadership skills. Even the masters never stop practicing.

Tumblr media
Mel Feller MPA, MHR, Illustrates How to Start a Business in Texas
Mel is the President/Founder of Mel Feller Seminars with Coaching for Success 360, Inc. and Mel Feller Coaching. Mel Feller is an Innovator and Business Leader. Mel Feller currently maintains offices in Texas and in Utah. Mel is currently an MBA Candidate.
  The Steps:
Determine Your Business Structure
Pick a Business Name
Request an Employee Identification Number
Acquire Business Licenses and Permits
Check on Your Business Employer Requirements
Sign Up for Business Banking
Texas’ support for small business, in particular, is evident in its low business licensing fees, its lack of red tape, and an abundance of relatively cheap real estate. Few states can boast a similar lack of regulation that lets businesses be born almost as soon as they are conceived, with only a small out-of-pocket investment.
  First:  Determine Your Business Structure
You need to choose the type of legal, for-profit business entity you want your business to be, which depends on a few factors. This includes what kind of business you are starting, whether you’ll have employees and your comfort with liability. Some structures are free to register; others have a low fee and are subject to the state franchise tax.
Some of the most common choices include:
Sole proprietorship: The most common and simplest form of business structure, a sole proprietorship is perfect for one person who owns all the business assets. This person is 100% liable for the business. Their sole proprietorship assumes their name, unless they want to create a “DBA certificate” to give it another name, to be filed in all counties where business is conducted. These structures are not subject to the state franchise tax.
General partnership: Similar to a sole proprietorship, but it’s for two or more individuals. It’s a separate business entity from those people, but creditors can still hit up the partners’ personal assets to satisfy debts and liabilities. They are not subject to state franchise tax.
Tumblr media
Limited liability Company: An LLC is created by filing a certificate of formation with the Texas secretary of state. It is an unincorporated business entity with more flexibility, providing owners with limited liability and pass-through tax advantages. LLCs are subject to state franchise tax, and the certification of formation for an LLC is $300. This should not be confused with a limited liability partnership, which is a general partnership registered with the secretary of state and, in Texas, costs $200 for the certificate of formation per general partner.
For-profit corporation: “Corporations are people, too.” It is true: Corporations are people with limited liability, centralized management, perpetual duration, and ease of ownership transferability. Owners of corporations are shareholders, and managers of the business are directors. For-profit corporations must register with the Texas secretary of state, must pay a filing fee for the certificate of formation of $300, and are subject to a state franchise tax.
If your business was formed in a state or entity other than Texas but you want to “transact business” in the state, you need to file an application for registration with the Texas secretary of State as a foreign entity.
  Second:  Pick a Business Name
This may sound obvious, but you need to choose a business name. If you open a sole proprietorship, your name can be the business name—otherwise, you need an Assumed Name (which comes via the DBA certificate). If you’re struggling on how to come up with the right name, consider these steps:
  Do a Google Search
If that business name sounds too good to be true, it may be. First, do a preliminary search to find any conflicts with your Texas business name, especially in your local area. Consider a name that is easy to pronounce and spell as well as one that is very searchable.
  Do a Trademark Search
Before you pick a name, you will want to ensure it has not already been trademarked. To start, sift through the trademarks already registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. This database can show you which names have already been registered along with the classification of each one.
  Check Texas’s Business Name Database
Once you have picked a Google-able name and discovered it’s not trademarked, check the Texas Department of State: Division of Corporations database. This will ensure your business name is not the same (or too similar) to another corporation registered in Texas.
Tumblr media
Give your name a lot of thought: It is hard to change it up in the middle of your company’s lifespan.
Third:  Request an Employee Identification Number
An EIN, or business tax identification number, is the business equivalent of a social security number and is used to track your business dealings. It is useful for establishing business credit, opening business checking accounts, and, if you have employees, filing their tax withholdings. You can apply for your EIN with the IRS here.
An EIN is free to obtain; you can also contract a third party like LegalZoom to ensure you are 100% compliant with the law, including getting your EIN for you.
In addition to understanding your federal tax responsibilities, you also need to research your state and local taxes. The Comptroller of Public Accounts collects various state taxes and imposes and collects franchises taxes, though most small businesses are exempt.
Business inventory tax is assigned to businesses that own fixed assets, to be paid to your local county appraisal district. You will want a quality inventory and fixed asset management system to ensure you know exactly how much you invested (and thus, what you will have to pay taxes on) in your equipment and machinery, if applicable.
Fourth: Acquire Business Licenses and Permits
Texas does not require companies to buy a “general business” license. However, depending on the type of business you open, you might need a specific license or permit. Check out the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to see if your specific profession qualifies. If you’re unsure of what you need, contact your local county or city government to double check any additional requirements.
Varieties of small fees are associated with obtaining various business filings and trademarks, such as a change of registered agent or a limited partnership periodic report. The full list can be found here—it works as a good checklist when starting out.
Tumblr media
Fifth:  Check on Your Business Employer Requirements
This is specific to the type of business you are starting in Texas, including whether you have employees, but there are various labor, safety, and tax obligations to satisfy, too, such as federal and state mandates like the Americans with Disabilities Act, Equal Employment, and safety, wage, and labor requirements. You might want to hire a tax or business attorney to make sure you are following the law here.
You have a few other economic hurdles to clear as you start up and begin running your business in the state of Texas, particularly if you have employees. Here are a few of the most important—but be sure to refer to the full state handbook if you have further questions:
  Business Insurance
Texas does not require most private businesses to have workers’ compensation insurance, though those that do obtain helpful legal protections, such as immunity from lawsuits by injured employees. Those without workers’ comp must also file an annual notice with the Texas
 Department of Insurance.
Commercial property insurance, such as tenant coverage while renting or leasing a building, that will insure your on-premises property, is highly recommended.
Offering health insurance isn’t a requirement for small employers in Texas, but those that do offer it need to make it available to all employees working 30 hours or more a week, year-round. Insurance companies usually require 75% of eligible employees to participate in their health plan.
Note that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires all small employer group plans to cover essential health benefits like emergency services and prescription drugs.
  Texas Workforce Commission
The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and 28 local workforce development boards have teamed up to form Texas Workforce Solutions, to provide support services and administering unemployment benefits and tax programs. A few services to keep in mind:
Skills for Small Business provides training funds for businesses with fewer than 100 employees—$725 for full-time existing employees and double that amount for full-time, new employees to aid in upgrading skills, preparing new hires, and increasing competitiveness. Training is also available at local colleges.
Skills Development Funds are collaborative training programs customized to specific business needs. Companies can apply for this fund grant and customized curriculum.
The Work Opportunity Tax Credit Program offers a tax credit reducing the federal tax liability of employers if they hire someone from target groups, such as SNAP recipients, ex-felons, veterans, and residents of rural renewal counties.
Tumblr media
 Unemployment Tax
The Texas Unemployment Compensation Act requires “liable employers” to pay unemployment tax. Most of the business structures discussed above fall under this category; non-liable employers include those who hire only independent contractors rather than full-time employees, and those whose employees are paid through a professional employer organization.
Once wages are paid out, employers need to register with the TWC within 10 days of becoming liable for the state’s unemployment tax.
  Third-Party Resources, Programs, and Lenders
You do not have to go it alone in Texas. A number of state and federal resources, such as the U.S. Small Business Administration, offer business advice, low-interest loans, grants, and much more. Their programs are geared toward helping veteran-owned businesses, minority-owned businesses, and women-owned businesses, and they are worth exploring if you qualify.
Sixth:  Sign Up for Business Banking
If you are a new business owner, it is a very good idea to separate your personal and business banking accounts. First, sign up for a business checking account. If you do not want to be saddled with hefty fees, there are many free business-banking accounts out there. Before you settle on a bank, consider how often you plan to make transactions and how much a balance you can carry month to month.
Getting a business credit card is also a great way to start building business credit and provide a safety net if you need a bit of extra capital. If you qualify, a 0% introductory rate can act as an interest-free loan while you get up in running.
Tumblr media
If you are interested in starting a business in Texas, you are definitely in luck: The barrier for entry is low and the number of resources at your disposal is high.
It may be really, hot down there in the summer, but that is a small price to pay for getting your foot in the door of the small business world and keeping it there.
Texas appears to have a stake in helping you succeed—do not take that for granted. It is hard enough to stay afloat in today’s economy, and a state government that has your back is a benefit few should turn down.

Mel Feller MPA, MHR, Discusses Working from Home and Challenging Fears
Mel is the President/Founder of Mel Feller Seminars with Coaching for Success 360, Inc. and Mel Feller Coaching. Mel Feller is an Innovator and Business Leader. Mel Feller currently maintains an office in Texas. Mel is currently an MBA Candidate.
Have you been considering home-based business opportunities?
If so, you are certainly not alone, as there are an increasing number of people who are considering the idea of working from home very seriously. The trouble is that many people have silly assumptions regarding this method of working.
Many of the important issues, which need to be considered very carefully before making such a life change, are often not given much thought until the jump has been made.
In this discussion, let us have a look at some of the common fears or assumptions and those matters overlooked, or not considered seriously enough.
Fear 1: That you will need to take a massive pay cut and take weeks, months or even years to earn a decent income.
Tumblr media
Although this can easily be the case, it need not be. Those who claim that this happened to them, and perhaps quote it as the reason they gave up working at home, are probably those who underestimated the hard work entailed in leaving traditional jobs and staying at home instead.
You would not walk into a standard office job without having trained for it, prepared for it, and made sure that you are ready.
The same is true when considering work from home opportunities. It will be important to plan and prepare well in advance.
Some people spend weeks or months working in their own time after work to get things started, and then switch to working part time to allow them to push the homework more, before finally committing to it full time. It is unlikely that you will be able to walk out of a well-paid job on Friday evening and start heading up a successful and profitable home business opportunity on Monday morning.
Tumblr media
Fear 2: That you will no longer have any support if things go wrong.
Of course, there is a degree of truth here, but in all honesty, it need not be the case. If you are considering a work at home business, the chances are you have already started to investigate the possibilities.
One thing you may well have noticed is how many forums and discussion boards there are which those who have already started working from home, or have been doing so for years maintain.
Make sure you join these, and talk to people. Often they'll be great support, but they'll also help put you in touch with relevant organizations and institutions which could offer a great deal of support and advice, whether it's tax related, sorting out your accounting, or looking at marketing strategies.
Overlooked point 1: Too many people assume that if they give up the day job and start working from home, they will be able to relax a great deal more, with less pressure and more flexibility with hours.
Of course, this can be the case, but only if you plan for it very carefully. A huge mistake made by some people is to start their home business on a Monday morning by sleeping in a few extra hours, taking leisurely time to watch daytime television, and squeeze a bit of work in here and there.
It is only when they start to realize how little work has been completed and how little money they have earned, that the pressure builds. Work from home business arrangements or opportunities require an inordinate amount of self-discipline.
It requires that you plan carefully and rigidly, being aware of the work you need to do and planning your time off and breaks very carefully.
If you are not a very self-disciplined person, or would find it too tempting, this needs to be something you consider carefully. However, with good planning and sensible use of your time, working from home can really provide the ultimate flexibility, and give you much greater freedom.
Overlooked point 2: Pressure from home.
This might seem odd, since you are probably well aware of the pressures of office life, but your home is less stressful, and there is almost no pressure there - which is why you want to work from home in the first place, right?
The trouble is that too few people really appreciate the pressure, which their family can unwittingly bring to bear on their business plan. Seeing you at home all day, master of your own time, can easily give the impression that your time is now theirs.
Constant pressure to do little jobs around the house, play with the children, taxi them here and there, do some shopping, and a hundred and one other little daily tasks can eat into your concentration, eat into your precious time, and make you feel guilty for locking yourself away to work.
Bear this in mind, and discuss the whole business plan with your family to ensure they understand how you will need their support.
If you take all of these hindrances to your success into consideration when you work from home, and take steps to ensure that you don't make false assumptions, and that you overlook nothing, than you will have a better than average chance of success with your new home business.

Success is the progressive realization of a worthwhile goal. – Earl Nightingale
Tumblr media
The ability to set goals and to make plans to achieve them is the one essential skill of success. In fact, becoming a continuous goal setter will contribute to your success more than anything else you could ever do. An average person can achieve more than even the most brilliant genius, if that average person has clear written goals and the genius does not. Still, less than 3% have goals in writing and less than 1% review their goals regularly.
The very best way to predict the future is to create it. Goals allow you to decide how your life will change; making sure that the change is in the direction you want. The reason why people with goals succeed is that they know where they are going. It is as simple as that. When you create a vision of something, you want in your life you will suddenly begin to notice the distinctions between where you are and where you want to be. You will become aware and alert to opportunities in your environment that can be resources for you to achieve the goal and you will get creative ideas and inspiration to take action towards it.
Tumblr media
 Ambition
A high level of ambition is a hallmark of all successful people. This means that you should set goals that are beyond your current ability and skill, yet still believable. You grow as a person from the demands you place on yourself, so always demand more from yourself than anyone else does. What is possible for you today comes from your experiences, and if you limit yourself based on the past you will not go any further.
Tumblr media
Set ambitious goals and continually work to surpass them. Your goals only specify the minimum results you will accept, not the maximum. Ambitious goals push you into action and even if you do not achieve every one of them, you will still go farther than if you had settled for goals that were too easy. Find goals grand enough to challenge you. Goals that will push you forward and let you discover what you are capable of. There are no limits to what you can accomplish. The only limits are those that you place on yourself. Do not let the limitations of others be your limitations.
Big goals will motivate and inspire you far more than less challenging goals. Most people settle for far less than they are capable of and get stuck in a comfort zone. The way to get out of the comfort zone is through continuous goal setting – to continually stretch yourself, always striving for something more. The more ambitious your goals are and the stronger your desire for them is, the more motivated you will be to make yourself do what you need to do to get where you want to go.
How badly you want your goals will more than anything else determine whether you achieve them or not. You can have virtually anything you want in life if you know exactly what it is you want and you are prepared to do the tasks necessary to achieve it. The requirement is only that you do the tasks in advance and that you do all of them. To tell that the tasks have been completed is easy, because when they are the success will be there in front of you for all to see.
   Selecting your Goals
Brainstorm at least 10 goals that you personally want to accomplish and organize them by priority. Write them all down with at least one for each of these major life areas:
 Health, fitness and physical goals.
Emotional and spiritual goals.
Financial, business and career goals.
Family, social and contribution goals.
Material, leisure and experience goals.
Personal and professional development goals.
To clarify what you really want to be, have and do in life, you can project yourself forward 5 years into the future and imagine that all of your dreams have come true. What does it look like for each area? What kind of lifestyle do you have? Where do you live? Who are there with you? Another powerful way to find your goals is to consider how you would spend your time if you had only 6 months left to live. What if you only had 6 weeks, 6 days or 6 hours left? Finally, what would you do if you found out that you had only 60 minutes left to live?
Tumblr media
 The Steps to Goal Achievement
Define:  A real goal is specific, measurable, and time-bound and in writing. Once you have decided upon a goal the first step is to define it clearly, exactly, as you want it accomplished. The more specific and concrete you are, the better. The second step is to make sure your goal is measurable. How much do you want and by when? Set the criteria for achieving it so you can measure your progress towards it. The third step is to decide on the exact date when you will have the goal achieved. Give yourself a realistic, but challenging deadline. Without one, you will procrastinate and put things off. A deadline will motivate you to do the things necessary to make your goal come true. Commit yourself to the deadline and even try to beat it. If you for some reason do not achieve the goal by the deadline, set another deadline until you do achieve it.
Once you have done these three steps, the fourth and final step is to put the goal in writing. Just writing a goal down dramatically increases the likelihood that you will achieve it. A great method is to write your goals down in the present tense, as though they were already accomplished – for example: “I have acquired a certain amount of money”, “I have reached a certain percentage of body fat”, “I have overcome my fear of public speaking” or “I have developed the habit of reading one hour per day”, followed by the deadline date.
Tumblr media
Plan:  Write down a plan of action to achieve your goal and schedule it in a calendar. A goal is defined by the tasks you have to perform to accomplish it. If your goal is to form a positive habit, such as “I will learn a new skill every month”, the action plan is the same as the goal. On the other hand, if your goal contains many steps, write out a detailed list of everything you need to do. You can then organize the action steps by sequence and priority.
To determine the steps towards your goal, you can often visualize yourself having already achieved it and then work your way back to the present. You should also identify the obstacles in your way, the resources you will require and the people whose cooperation you will need. Write it all down. You can always add to your plan later as you discover more steps. If the goal is long-term, you should break it down into sub goals with deadlines every 30 days.
Once you have written your action plans for each of your major goals, it is time to make a detailed schedule.  In brief, you take a couple of minutes at the beginning of each week to schedule tasks from your action plans to the days of the week. During these minutes, you also review your plans, their progress, and set new goals.
Tumblr media
Action:  After you have planned your work, it is time to work your plan. Your goal setting must result in action, because even the best plan in the world will not work unless you do. Discipline yourself to perform the activities of your plan on schedule. Observe how effective your action steps are and adjust your plan accordingly to make sure that what you are doing is taking you towards your goals. A simple yet powerful success strategy to follow is to schedule and perform one activity for each goal every single day. If you do this, then no matter how big or distant your goals are, you will reach them eventually. It will also build a chain of habits that will put your progress on autopilot.
When you have set a goal, the question of whether it is possible is irrelevant. The only question you need to ask is how this goal can be accomplished. How do you get from where you are to where you want to go? Always be on the lookout for things you can do to contribute to the achievement of your goals and continually look for better ways to achieve them.
Tumblr media
Persistence:  Make the decision in advance that you will never give up. Never even, consider the possibility of failure. See defeat as just a temporary part of learning how to succeed. Know that as long as you refuse to quit you will eventually be successful. The ability to persist in the face of the inevitable obstacles and difficulties to your goals is essential. In fact, with enough persistence you cannot accomplish very few goals in life.
Your success in any area of life is largely determined by how well you deal with adversity. You can often tell how high and how far a person will go simply by looking at how they react to frustration and setbacks. Successful people are not those who do not have problems – they are the ones who refused to become discouraged by their defeats. Each time we face a challenge we have the choice to respond confidently, or to let it overwhelm us. If you choose deliberately to respond in a constructive way and to deal with the problem effectively, you will learn, grow and become better able to deal with future challenges.
Motivation:  It is up to you to make an absolute must out of every goal you set. The more you think about, visualize, review and rewrite your goals, the deeper you will drive them into your subconscious mind, the greater your motivation will be and the faster you will move towards them. Get a clear mental picture of you reaching each one of your goals. Make it so real in your mind that it feels like you already have achieved them. We see the images in our minds that drive us towards our goals. It is these images that we can call to mind for support when the going gets tough.
Tumblr media
You should surround yourself with symbols of your goals and plans to help keep them constantly in your mind. For example, find pictures of your goals or write them down on post-it notes that you place on your bathroom mirror or work desk where you can see or read them every day. Alternatively, carry your goals with you on cards in your wallet and review them regularly. You can even begin each day by rewriting all of your major goals, and visualizing yourself already in possession of them.
Tumblr media
  Summary:
Write your goals down clearly and set a deadline for their accomplishment.
Make plans to achieve your goals, schedule them and take action.
Do something every day that moves you towards your goals and never give up.
Review your goals often and visualize them as already achieved.

There are tons of financial assistance programs available to entrepreneurs and business owners in the United States. Eligibility varies, but there are enough opportunities for everyone to pursue. You just have to be diligent, persistent, and consistent in your quest. Below, you will find several suggestions on how to apply for and obtain small business grants.
Check with Your Local Government Agencies. Many cities, counties, and states give away money to local businesses. Why? Because they want you to create jobs and more tax revenue. Many times, they will not highly publicize these opportunities, but it is in your best interest to give them a call and/or search their web sites.
Check with Federal Government Agencies. The federal government does not give business grants directly to businesses, but they do give money to foundations who in turn can give money to small businesses. The federal agency in charge of this is the Grants Program Management Office, and all of their opportunities are listed publicly at www.grants.gov
Check with Major Corporations. Nearly every major corporation in this country has a foundation that gives away grants to enhance communities, and many of these are grants to start or expand a business. Start with the companies that are headquartered in your home state, and find out if they offer financial assistance for local businesses. If not, venture out and inquire about companies that are not in your state. Many times, they do not care where you live.
Tumblr media
Search The Internet. Use Google and Yahoo to conduct a search using the term "business grants". You can even throw in the name of your city, county, state, etc. Carefully review the results, and look for web sites that other web sites are linked to. Doing so, will help you to find opportunities that may be casually listed on a blog or some type of directory. You may even come across a recent news article about a new opportunity.
Ask Around. When attending professional networking functions and social mixers, never hesitate to ask people that you meet about new opportunities. Many times, small business grants are given away to people who happen to be in the right place at the right time. Never underestimate the importance of creating a relationship with a power player and his/her associates.
Visit Your Local Library. Contrary to popular belief, libraries are still an excellent resource and store a lot of information that is not accessible in other places. Go to your library as soon possible; look for grant books and directories and ask specific questions to your librarian. You will be surprised what you can find.
Tumblr media
Make Sure it is Legit. The Internet is full of many misleading opportunities. Be cautious, and make sure that the organization or company has a professionally developed web site. Also, make sure they have a phone number, email address, physical address - and are not requiring you to pay to apply. Some legit web sites, however, do sell access to their directory of opportunities for a monthly fee. Other legit web sites may sell e-books that list grant opportunities. This is okay, as long as you are not paying to submit an actual grant application.
Be Patient. Many entrepreneurs make the mistake of rushing through the process of finding and applying for a business grant. The reality is that looking for and qualifying for the right opportunity can take some time. In fact, it can take up to a year or more before you actually get the funds needed into your possession. In addition, you may not immediately find the opportunity that is best for you.
Be Thorough. When applying for small business grants, make sure to dot your "I's" and cross your "T's". In other words, be thorough and complete. Many opportunities will require lengthy applications that can seem endless. Stay the course, and remember that being inaccurate or skipping questions may disqualify you.
Be Optimistic. Many allow the process of applying for grants to intimidate them and scare them away. Yes, it can be time consuming and tedious - but in the end it is very well worth it. Remember, grants do not have to be repaid. This is free money. Do not give up, and stay positive. You will be glad you did!

Whether you have a traditional, local brick and mortar store or an exclusively online business, you will need a set of online tools to make setting up your online presence both simple and efficient.
Growth is usually considered positive and desirable. It is often regarded as a measure of success and something that should be pursued. While this is true in many cases, business growth can  present its own set of problems and challenges.
Those in business generally have limited resources and this can increase the risks associated with growth, especially when it occurs quickly or is unplanned. As the owner of a growing business, you need to learn to manage growth.
First, you should take time to consider what growing your business will really mean and the implications of operating a larger enterprise.
If you are ready to take the next step and grow your business, you can access the tools that I have listed below.  I have really tried to focus on the best and the free ones. After all, a penny saved is a penny earned!

They also can help you with patents and trademarks for your business, a necessity for the open frontier of the Internet.
 Freshbooks.com

Freshbooks has the best combination of ease of use and powerful features, requiring little time to keep your data safely stored in the cloud and focus on your business.

Mel Feller, MPA, MHR, Suggests 20 Small Business Tips for Success
President/Founder of Mel Feller Seminars with Coaching For Success 360, Inc.
Offices Located in Texas and in Utah.
You must understand how to be successful, if you are an ambitious entrepreneur. Of course, there is no single key to achievement in business but many, which is your job to find and apply them in your organization.
The foremost is to define your target since without that are you going to know where you stand proceeding and importantly whether you are staying on-course. While profits, though essential, may possibly not be the important driver for you if you are establishing a social company your goal can maybe be to maximize the amount of people you will help in your group.
However if you like to retire in five years your aim perhaps needs to be to develop your organization to the stage where it may be bought for a healthy return for the investment of money and time. You need to take some time and fix your organization’s compass to determine what you are planning and put your company on a distinct course.
Realizing where you are heading could be the key to achievement because just subsequently need to know and then you should share it along with your staff. They should realize your thoughts to be able to assist you reach your destination or outcome.
Therefore, I just felt that these general tips are things you need to keep in mind as you design/operate your small business:
 1. Take the time out to explore and understand whether you are compatible with running your own business. Some people are just plain happier and better off financially on the other end of the paycheck.
 2. Get your personal finances in order. Before you jump into the entrepreneurship world, get your own money matters squared away.
 3. Pick your niche. Many small business owners succeed in businesses that are not unique or innovative. Take stock of your skills, interests, and employment history to select the business that is best suited for you.
 4. Benefit from your business plan. The exercise of creating a business plan is what pays the dividends. Answer the tough questions now before the meter starts running.
 5. Do not think you need bankers and investors at the outset of your business. The vast majority of small businesses are bootstrapped.
 6. Acquire the proper background. In the early months and years of your business, you will have to acquire many skills. Gain the background you need to oversee all facets of your business well, but determine what tasks you should outsource or hire employees.
 7. Remember that nothing happens until a sale is made? How many good products go nowhere because they do not reach the shelves? Sales drive your business. You will need a good marketing plan to sell your product or service.
 8. You have to see a customer to know one. No matter how busy you are, spend at least 25% of your time with customers. You cannot make the proper business decision without understanding their viewpoint.
 9.  Solve your customer’s problems. The best way to satisfy your customers is not by selling them products but by giving solutions to their problems. There is a big difference.
 10. Quality takes minutes to lose but years to regain. Quality is not a destination; it is a never-ending journey. After you have strayed from quality’s path, your journey maybe sidetracked forever.
 11. Put profitability first, rewards seconds. In small businesses, profitability must come first. Find out how to measure your cash flow and understand key financial ratios.
 12. Hire supporters. If you intend to create a growing business, your number one duty is to assemble a great team of employees.
 13. Do not do it alone. Find such help from small business peers, a mentor, even trade associations. They can help take some of the trial and error of beginning your business.
14. Vendors are partners too! Treat your vendors like customers and watch your partnership grow.
 15. Make use of benefits. Understand how to provide insurance and other benefits for your employees and cut your tax bill at the same time.
 16. Ignore regulatory issues at your own peril. Federal, state, and local governments require licenses, registrations, and permits. Obey them or face losing your business.
 17. Know the tax laws. Invest in understanding tax issues that affect your small business.
 18.  It is the people! Whatever happens to a small business happens at the hands of the people who work for it. The evolution of the business is a result of their efforts.
 19. Fast, good, cheap. Pick any two. Serious trouble awaits those who attempt to be all three in the market place. Stick with what you do best.
 20. Develop a passion for learning. As your business grows, you need to change and grow along with it. One common denominator can be found in all successful business owners and that is a passion for learning.

One of conventional ideas for business in Texas is opening a sports goods store. For this business to kick off on a sound footing, it needs some investment in good quality products. You can always work as an affiliate for some manufacturers in order to get the right products; all you need is to have the skill to sell them.
Massage service: A massage therapist is someone who treats clients by using touch to manipulate the soft-tissue muscles of the body in order to relieve pain, rehabilitate injuries, and reduce stress, increase relaxation, and aid in the general wellness of people. Most people tend to overwork themselves especially in Texas where people tend to handle multiple jobs. You can set up this business to help them relieve their stress. You only need aggressive marketing to set the business on track.
Pet sitting service: People with the increase in disposable income, many people in Texas can afford to have pets. You can decide to take care of pets for people when they have reasons to leave their homes for some length of time. You get to walk, feed and bath the pets. Taking care of pets is quite easy as pets generally do their thing most of the day. You can even decide to open a day care where people can bring their pets and collect them at the end of the day.

Mel Feller, MPA, MHR, Asks About Your Passion
Tumblr media
Mel Feller, MPA, MHR, Asks About Your Passion.
Mel is the President/Founder of Mel Feller Seminars with Coaching for Success 360, Inc. and Mel Feller Coaching.  Mel Feller maintains offices in Texas and in Utah.
The dictionary definition of passion is, “a strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything.” Why do people start their own businesses? Is it for money, for freedom – from corporate structure or otherwise, power? What would you want to do it if you did not need to work? Some people might answer that they would want to lie on a beach or watch television, all day that might not pay you!   However, is it possible to do something you would want to do whether or not you were making money – and actually make money? Of course – but if it were that easy, everyone would be doing it.
I have always suggested you should do what you love, but I had not followed my own advice sometimes. Why is it so important to pursue what is important to you? Here is what I have learned since deciding to focus on my passion:
It comes naturally. When you have a passion for something – you enjoy it and it means something to you. That does not mean it will not be work, because as I said and as we know, everyone would do it in that case. However, creating a plan and following through on it will certainly be easier when you are passionate than going after something you have no interest in.
It keeps you motivated. It is easy to get an idea and be excited about it – and then move on the next one. When launching a business is not due to genuine interest, but necessity, it can be difficult to stay on track. While having new plans and dreams is great, how powerful is it when you can pick something up and finish it!
It is not about the money. Of course, money often does play a part in it, but that is not why you do it. Money should never be what drives you, if you can help it. Pursuing only for money can leave you feeling desperate and certainly not happy or secure when it does not pan out.
It teaches you discipline. When you stick to something, you can accomplish it and make a career out of it. Being committed is necessary and you have to train yourself to get to that mentality. Once you have developed a routine and a plan for what you need to do to succeed, you will be more dedicated to the ultimate goal.
You are proud of it. Sure, everyone is pleased when they are promoted, feels pride in a big accomplishment, or when they start and own a business. However, imagine the exponential increase you would feel when you do something you believe in.
You advocate for it. Not as the typical business promotion – but as “guess what I get to do for a living?” People can tell when you are truly excited, and if you feel good about your business, it will help others feel that very same way as well.
It makes you feel good about yourself. Maybe this is a given, but who does not need a boost of confidence now and then? Don’t you always feel better when you do something you believe in rather than something you do not? Alternatively, almost as bad, something you are apathetic about? At the end of the day, feeling good about yourself and being happy about what you do every day will lead to fulfillment that you likely couldn’t get otherwise.
  Now the Second Phase:
It has been said that nothing in the world has ever been created without a thought initiating the process.
Thomas Edison made hundreds of attempts at the light bulb before he found success. When asked why he kept persevering, he replied, "For each attempt that failed and was discarded, it put me one step closer to the one experiment that would succeed." For each thought, each belief that created a reality that was not quite right; a new thought took its place, creating a better reality.
We have all heard of these success-from-failure stories and they often help to motivate us to try our personal best, to keep persevering. However, how can we keep trying in the face of overwhelming odds? How do we get past the negative beliefs, the distractions, and the lack of support from our family and friends? What can we do when we are tired of trying?
Your thoughts do create your reality, and in learning to modify your old, entrenched thought patterns, you can modify your reality. There are three ways to modify our thoughts. First, changing your attitudes and beliefs about your current reality often shifts your focus and awareness so that you can begin to find peace in your life. Second, creating an image or thought of the new reality you want to create and keep that in focus as you go about your day. Third, through psychotherapy, gain insight into the birth of the thought and heal it.  Which in turn allows the passions to truly shine while making sure you have a plan to move forward with.
  Priorities are What Follow
The first step in creating your own reality is to determine which reality you are looking for. Often we do not reach our dreams because we never have a clear idea of what dreams are the most important to us. What is it you want most in this lifetime? Vital good health? A loving and supportive mate? Success in your business or career? A nice home? Freedom from emotional turmoil? An opportunity to start the dream business?
Whether your dreams are physical, emotional or spiritual, first write a list of what you want. You may find that you want something in each of those categories. In writing your list, be specific. Instead of writing "a good marriage," be specific: what specific actions and emotions are you looking for in your definition of a good marriage? In place of "good health," you might write "freedom from arthritic pain" or "more energy."
Do not feel pressured to write the list all in one sitting; take some time to allow things to bubble up from your soul. Organize the list in any way you would like, but make sure you determine which items are more important to you than the others are. You may want to write the list, and then take a few days to think about it. Finally, review it one last time; re-arrange priorities, or adding and subtracting items as needed.
Because your needs and life situation may change, your list will remain flexible and will change as time goes by. Try to remain open to these changes, even if it means rearranging your list of dreams. Perhaps a simple, mild change to an item is all that is necessary in order to keep up with the times.
Work the Plan and Plan the Work
Now that you have a list, the next step is to determine a means of visualizing or imagining that outcome, and putting that image out into a work plan.
Each of us must take personal responsibility for attaining our happiness. While I firmly believe the Universe can help us manifest our dreams, we must be ready and willing to do whatever is physically necessary to move us in the right direction. As Goethe said, "Until one is committed, there is hesitating, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative, there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: The moment one definitely commits oneself, Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would come his way." However, it is up to you to use those "incidents and meetings and materials" in order to complete the plan.
The purpose of a business plan, or your plan for passion, for a self-employed person who is financing their own business, is to have a central repository for all strategic thinking about the business for the coming year or two. Here is what should be included:
Your business idea in three sentences.
 Your target audience.
The challenges that your target audience faces.
The benefits of using your products and services to meet those challenges.
 Your company brand and image.
Your projected revenue and expenses for a year.
If you project more expenses than revenue for the first year, a statement about where the money will come from to pay for those expenses.
A list of your major competitors, and how you are different from them.
At least six marketing techniques you're planning to use over the coming year, when you plan to implement them, and what results do you expect from them.
A list of people who you will need to hire to implement your business plan or marketing plan (unless you have the business skills and time, yourself, to do all the work).
You should review your business plan, and update it, annually. I recommend reviewing the marketing section of your business plan quarterly, so that you can gauge the success of your marketing campaigns.
By following your passions, in writing, putting a plan together and finally executing that plan your love and passion for what your life will look at is now a map to arrive at your destination.

Money Saving Success Tips

Money Saving Success Tips
By Mel Feller, MPA, MHR

Just about, everyone agrees that they should be saving part of what they earn. However, many fail to do so. They feel that the cost of living is too high; there are too many bills to pay, too many things they need to buy.
All of which may be true. However, the simple fact remains that, no matter who you are or what your income is, you can save. First, you have to decide that you want to save some of your money more than you want to spend it. Next, you have to decide how much you can realistically put aside.
   THE MISTAKE MILLIONS MAKE
Many people make the mistake of believing that if they cannot save a lot of money, it is not worth doing. They overlook the fact that even small amounts saved regularly will add up over a period. Suppose you saved just five percent of your income. You would save a full year's salary in less than 20 years (actually quite a few years less because of the interest it would earn in a savings account). If that seems like a long time, remember we are talking about a full year's income! How much less time, would it take you to save $1,000 or $500?
By comparison, what will you have to show for the money you did not save? Look back over the last few years and ask yourself what you would have missed if you had saved five or ten percent of your income. Anything tangible or worthwhile? Anything that would give you as much satisfaction as having that money in a savings account right now? Probably not.
Breaking the habit of spending all you make takes will power. Nevertheless, as your savings grow, little by little, it becomes easier and easier. In fact, it becomes a pleasure. In addition, as you add to your savings, you will be receiving interest that will help your savings grow even faster.
Isn't it true that the things you really want most can only come through savings? Take a moment and make a mental list of the things worth saving for. Is there any sense in dreaming of a sudden windfall, an inheritance, or some other source of instant wealth? Of course not. You know what you have to do--start saving.
 A FORMULA FOR SAVING MONEY
The formula is just three words: "PAY YOURSELF FIRST." Before you pay the landlord or the grocer or anyone else, pay yourself--FIRST.
Today's money problems are real. So are our solutions. The theory is simple. If you try to save what is left after paying all of your bills and meeting your other expenses, you will wind up saving nothing for yourself. If, on the other hand, you pay yourself first, you will become a little wealthier every month, and you will still meet necessary expenses with the rest of your income (even if you have to manage your money better to do it.)
If you do not believe it is possible, consider the following. Suppose Congress increased everyone's income tax by ten percent. No one would like it, but everyone would find their paycheck reduced by the extra withholding. After a short period of adjustment, you would pare your expenses so that you were living on less take-home pay. You would have to because the extra money just would not be there anymore.
Paying yourself first works the same way. If you put a certain amount of each paycheck into a savings account before you spend a dime, you "withhold" for yourself. You will soon adjust your cost of living to what is available to spend. Try it with ten percent of your income--or just five percent. You will be surprised to find out that saving does not reduce your standard of living. On the contrary, it improves it. You just cannot go broke when you are saving money.
TRICKS TO BUILD YOUR SAVINGS ACCOUNT
Here are some ideas that will help you save. These tricks have worked for all kinds of people.
Save coins of a designated amount, such as dimes or quarters, from your daily change. Put all such coins into a piggy bank. You will not miss them and you will be surprised how they will add up.
Instead of saving just certain coins, save all of your loose change every day.
After you have paid the last installment on your car or other loan, add to your savings account the same amount you have been paying. You are already in the habit of setting aside that amount every month, so continue to pay it to yourself.
If you get an income tax refund, deposit it in your saving account.
If you receive a cash bonus, use it to open a saving account or to fatten an existing one.
Save your overtime pay instead of spending it.
When you get a raise, save it. You got along without it before. Even a small weekly increase will add up.
Put gifts of money received for birthdays, at Christmas, or for other special occasions into your savings account.
Be sure all your money is working for you. Deposit extra sums of cash immediately.
Adopt a short-term "austerity" program during which you save as much as possible. Buy nothing unless you really need it. Cut out movies, eating out, entertaining or other expenses and deposit what you save.
 YOU'LL GAIN IN EVERY WAY
Not only will saving make you wealthier, you will have a greater peace of mind because you will be more financially secure. You will have new respect for yourself. You will find that your entire living pattern becomes better organized. What's more, you will be on the road to becoming a financial success.
 WHAT IS FINANCIAL SUCCESS?
Financial success is simple. It is the ability to accumulate money and receive a return on what you save. It is not what you spend or how much you earn that determines your success with money. It is how much you keep!
HOW DO YOU ACHIEVE FINANCIAL SUCCESS?
First, take an inventory to learn where you stand financially. How much do you earn? Where does your money go? How much do you owe? How much have you saved? Only by doing this can you determine your true financial position.
Second, set a goal. Decide how much money you want and when you want to reach your goal. For example, let us say you want to have $5,000 saved in five years. Put this goal in writing. Now you have committed yourself to a definite objective.
Once you have created this goal, use every means in your power to achieve it. As you work toward it, you will receive the thrill and satisfaction of a job well done. You will be managing your own affairs. You will have earned a feeling of independence that nothing can take away from you.
Many people say they find it impossible to save any money because they have too many places where they must spend their income. Even these people can save if they really want to. The most important factory in saving is a burning desire to succeed with your money. You must decide you want to save more than you want to spend.
TO SAVE BETTER YOU ALSO HAVE TO SPEND BETTER
People who have learned the secret of saving usually have also learned to spend better. They work from a definite money management plan that keeps expenses under control that makes every dollar serve a purpose. If these ideas don't seem to work for you--if, after paying yourself first, you wind up in the hole and have to borrow back what you've saved--go back to the basics of a sound financial plan. You will find there are plenty of leaks in your budget that can be plugged so that you won't constantly be needing the money you've just saved.
 IT CAN BE DONE!
Others have done it. You can do it too! If you are really determined to succeed at saving money, you will do it.

Budget Finance Budgeting & Financial Tips

Budget Finance Budgeting & Financial Tips
By Mel Feller, MPA, MHR

In order to create a budget, also known as your cash-flow plan, you will first need to find out where all of your money is going. You will need to find any mortgage or rental statements along with any insurance, homeowners or renters, payments and utility bills. Have a car loan? The amount you are paying per month will be needed. Bank and credit card statements are usually available online with up to three months of transactions, so reviewing these will help remember and organize recent expenses – so they can be placed on the budget if appropriate. For those of you that have not been tracking expenses before – you may be surprised by what you find.
Remember, this is just a quick start budget – you may not have all the information so if you do not have exact numbers your best guess will do. Once we get some of the basics down, we will move onto a much more detailed cash-flow plan. However, for now…let us keep it simple.
As you move forward with the budgeting process, begin collecting and noting all expenditures and try to categorize them as best you can right away. Having this information as early as possible will be a huge help when it comes time to completing your much more detailed cash-flow plan.
Budget tip #1. Be realistic with your budget. Sure, we could all save a bundle if we did not have to eat or entertain ourselves. You can cut your grocery bill by up to 15% or so, but a 25% or more reduction in spending is just unrealistic. Plan on budgeting some money for entertainment, everybody needs some reward.
Budgeting tip #2. You are budgeting your money to save money. You are doing this for a reason - make it count. Try to save at least 5% of your income each month in your budget.
Budget tip #3. Track your actual spending. Do not fall into the trap of setting up a detailed budget and then forget to track against it. Track your spending daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, hourly, whatever - just make sure your budget is tracking what you actually spend!
Budgeting tip #4. Make a list of free things to do each month. A concert in the park, hiking on the weekend, volunteer time at a soup kitchen. Be creative.
Budget tip #5. Correcting bad spending habits. You have invested your hard-earned money, into a budget spreadsheet or budget software, now make it pay off. How do you correct bad spending habits? Discipline and learning from your past mistakes.
Budgeting tip #6. Plan for the unexpected. Make sure you budget for putting aside some emergency funds for unexpected events, medical bills, automobile repair, loss of employment, etc. I recommend at least $1,000.00
Budget tip #7. Do not panic. If you spend more than you make in a given month, treat it, as a lesson learned, not the end of the world.
Budgeting tip #8. Reward yourself. Try to reward yourself at the end of each month for a job well done. This will help you stick to your budgeting goals in the future.
Budget tip #9. Stick with simple budgeting tools. Do not get lost with the latest and greatest budget software that has the most bells and whistles. The more robust the budget program, the more confusing. Keep it simple.
Budgeting tip #10. Do not let your budget rule your life. The world is stressful enough today, it does not need any help from you. Stick to your budget as best you can, learn from your mistakes and try to improve every month.
I hope that these budgeting tips have given you the tip that will aid you in your budget goals!

Successful People Never Make the Same Mistakes Twice
Tumblr media
Successful People Never Make the Same Mistakes Twice
By Mel Feller, MPA, MHR
We all make mistakes but the people who thrive from their mistakes are the successful ones.
“Never go back.” What does that mean? From observations of successful people, clinical psychologist and author of Never Go Back: 10 Things You’ll Never Do Again (Howard Books,  June 2014), Dr. Henry Cloud has discovered certain “awakenings” that people have—in life and in business—that once they have them, they never go back to the old way of doing things. Moreover, when that happens, they are never the same. In short, they got it.
So, what do Successful people never do again?
Return to what has not worked.
Whether a job, or a broken relationship that was ended for a good reason, we should never go back to the same thing, expecting different results, without something being different.
Do anything that requires them to be someone they are not.
In everything, we do, we have to ask ourselves, “Why am I doing this? Am I suited for it? Does it fit me? Is it sustainable?” If the answer is no to any of these questions, you had better have a very good reason to proceed.
 Try to change another person.
When you realize that you cannot force someone into doing something, you give him or her freedom and allow them to experience the consequences. In doing so, you find your own freedom as well.
 Believe they can please everyone.
Once you get that it truly is impossible to please everyone, you begin to live purposefully, trying to please the right people.
Choose short-term comfort over long-term benefit.
Once successful people know they want something that requires a painful, time-limited step, they do not mind the painful step because it gets them to a long-term benefit. Living out this principle is one of the most fundamental differences between successful and unsuccessful people, both personally and professionally.
Trust someone or something that appears flawless.
It is natural for us to be drawn to things and people that appear “incredible.” We love excellence and should always be looking for it. We should pursue people who are great at what they do, employees who are high performers, dates who are exceptional people, friends who have stellar character, and companies that excel. Nevertheless, when someone or something looks too good to be true, he, she, or it is. The world is imperfect. Period. No one and no thing is without flaw, and if they appear that way, hit pause.
Take their eyes off the big picture.
We function better emotionally and perform better in our lives when we can see the big picture. For successful people, no one event is ever the whole story. Winners remember that—each day.
 Neglect to do due diligence.
No matter how good something looks on the outside, it is only by taking a deeper, diligent, and honest look that we will find out what we truly need to know: the reality that we owe ourselves.
Fail to ask why they are where they find themselves.
One of the biggest differences between successful people and others is that in love and in life, in relationships and in business, successful people always ask themselves, what part am I playing in this situation? Said another way, they do not see themselves only as victims, even when they are.
Forget that their inner life determines their outer success.
The good life sometimes has little to do with outside circumstances. We are happy and fulfilled mostly by who we are on the inside. Research validates that. In addition, our internal lives largely contribute to producing many of our external circumstances.
In addition, the converse is true: people who are still trying to find success in various areas of life can usually point to one or more of these patterns as a reason they are repeating the same mistakes.
Everyone makes mistakes…even the most successful people out there. Lord knows, that I have, however, what achievers do better than others is recognize the patterns that are causing those mistakes and never repeat them again. In short, they learn from pain—their own and the pain of others.
A good thing to remember is this: pain is unavoidable, but repeating the same pain twice, when we could choose to learn and do something different, is certainly avoidable. I like to say, “We don’t need new ways to fail….the old ones are working just fine!” Our task, in business and in life, is to observe what they are, and never go back to doing them again.
