it’s a bold claim but never has there been a more skippable season than medici season 1. literally zero impact on season 2 and terrible to boot

#even black sails which is also a MARKED difference in quality as we all know. s1 is simply not skippable it lays too much groundwork #also bs s1 is not as bad as medici season 1 which is really just atrocious

ngl it's laughable when lorenzo says "i tried to make peace." bitch what did you try? what lorenzo TRIED to do was make the pazzi convert. he never admits he'd give up his own power for the common man because he won't. if i was being real cynical i'd say his spouts about democracy were a ploy to pacify his allies, but i know the self righteous medici propaganda narrative wouldn't allow that.

i am LOVING this scalding medici tea in my inbox in the year 2024!!! you're right and you should say it! like yeah, obviously the pazzi are selfish oligarchic assholes, but at least they're upfront about it haha whereas the medici (and especially lorenzo) are such fake hoes. and from what i remember (been a while since my last rewatch), s1 was pretty good about interrogating this with cosimo, slash it actually did feel like cosimo cared about the common man (like when he tried to get a merchant elected to the signoria and all the nobles including contessina were like "ew wtf that's so cringe cosimo").

and it makes so much sense that lorenzo, two generations later, would inherit his grandfather's pro-populace rhetoric but not his genuine care for the people and that lorenzo would use the common people as a political tool rather than try to better their lives because he actually cares - cosimo remembers what it was like to be common himself and may genuinely want the others like his family to have more power, whereas lorenzo was raised in entrenched power and privilege and is sitting pretty comfortably with the current status quo. HOWEVER, it felt like the narrative didn't really interrogate that in s2 and just kinda wanted us to buy that lorenzo really was as good a dude as he claimed to be. and i say X Doubt to that!

Part 2

There's three girls in Jurai's dorm in Osiris Red in S1, yes, these are Judai's canon roommates, but genderbent.

Jaden Yuki/Yuki Judai ➡️ Yuki Jurai

Jurai is going to be more interested in her studies than canon Judai, purely because she doesn't want to let her mother down. that doesn't mean she tests well in class. I figure she's probably a more active learner than book learner, so she does well in lessons when she can do things, but the lectures bore her and she learns more outside class time. It drives Professors like Crowler/de Medici nuts, because she's awful in class, but keeps getting passing grades in exams which means he can't kick her out.

Syrus Truesdale/Marufuji Sho ➡️ Marufuji Shoko

Shoko is as nervous as canon to start with. Ryu isn't any softer with her than he is with Sho, but Jurai is patient with her and tries to help. She in exchange, helps Jurai with keeping up with classwork. She is SUPER nervous after she finds out Jurai is Yugi's daughter, because she doesn't think she's worthy of hanging out with Yugi's DAUGHTER, also Jurai is a little frustrated by her assumption that of course she's good at dueling, she was taught by her mother, when Jurai was good before she got adopted.

As she gains confidence, she's more solid in herself, more confident, and actually stands up to her brother, who's proud of her for finding her backbone. She also stops fritzing about the Yugi thing when Yugi comes to assist with the Shadow Rider/7 Star Assassin thing and Shoko learns she's a human like them.

Also instead of Aniki, older brother, Shoko calls Jurai, Anesan, older sister.

Chumley Huffington/Maeda Hayato ➡️ Maeda Hayami

A heavier set koala girl with space buns trying to persuade her overbearing mom to let her be an artist. Yes, there is a koala plush on her bed.

I like the idea of Hayami coming to Pegasus's attention because she draws something for Yugi after she learns who Jurai's mom is (she's being infinitely less weird about it than Shoko) and Yugi has it as her phone background and Pegasus harasses her for the name of the artist

That draws him towards Hayami, and then, when she wins the card competition, which isn't biased because he doesn't know she's applied, he decides he needs to have her for I2 because she's an amazing artist.

Also, everyone who likes the Ennead versions of the GX crew, please check out the incredible @gx-gameon whose version of Jaden lives with Yugi is absolutely awesome. I've been planning my version for a while and its quite different, but I very much recommend theirs, and look forward to seeing more.

Like...peak lo-fi hip-hop, and the animation for this anime was fresh, cool and slick, just like the soundtrack. I still listen to it when cooking to help me stay in the kitchen long enough to finish.

Psychopass Season 1 specifically

This soundtrack SLAPS. This season was the beginning of the end, they were basically animating on vibes, but I loved it. It really helped me focus at work when that beat dropped, and I'm sorry but Glassy Sky is my top tier cooking song. Can go all in with my soprano vocal range lmao.

that promo was really a mixed bag so who knows, but i hope we see a lot of catherine de medici’s youth in france because i think she basically was, at the same age, what tsp/starz tried to make cofa in s1 (not very convincingly).

#like not to be a bitch about it BUT #all the showing not telling that cofa was some sort of machiavellian mastermind and was 'totally gave her father in law' a run for his #money...#how much of a machiavellian mastermind was she at the ripe old age of 15/16 when it seems that in reality all she managed to do #was alienate / piss off her father in law #(anyone that's read of her widowhood years would be familiar with this)#like i do believe she was politically skilled but i think that developed and she started out very green #the stuff with fray diego did not help matters (so of course they omitted that)#(bcus a frank depiction of that would make her seem very naiive)#whereas we have catherine de medici who really fought/stood up for herself but managed to ingratiate herself with her father in law #who was ultimately very charmed by her and did offer her aid #it's like chalk and cheese
