I’m curious on how you would rank Buffy throughout the 7 seasons. Are there some seasons you think she’s better in than others? Also I’m curious about your character ranking in general for all the characters because seeing you think Xander is ok shocked me lol. Please and thank you in advance!
Oh, I didn't say Xander is fine. I meant that that's how the show treats it. All teenage boys, except Xander, are evil.
So, I'll preface any rankings with the fact that, I don't necessarily believe there was anything wrong with Buffy as a character and everything wrong with the writing. My issuses are almost exclusively with the writing of the show and how it makes characters behave ooc, not the characters themselves behaving within the world of the show.
I'll always say seasons 1-3 for all characters as the top tier. They're the the most cohesive. Then season 4,6,5 and then 7 last because 7 was terrible for so many reasons.
My character ranking from best to least liked for me is:
Buffy
Cordelia
Giles
Willow
Spike (s1-3 exclusively)
Angel
Oz
Xander
Riley
Anya
Tara
Dawn
Tbh, I feel like this character ranking doesn't really need any explaining, lol. Dawn is terrible, Anya is a poor man's Cordelia and annoying with no real growth, Tara is nobody, Riley is...himself, unfortunately. The rest are likeable for the most part, Xander I'm ambivalent about.

The way the camera cuts on the off beat to Angel and Willow both feeling hurt and jealous, then Xander being confused, to realizing what's happening? Perfect.
