Monster (or not?)
It was a normal day for the Justice League, nothing special had happened, but Batman seemed to have a bad feeling. So when the alarm went off, he was prepared for almost anything.
Unfortunately, not much can prepare you for a 10-foot ice-covered, invincible Eldritch in the middle of Gotham. As much as the League tried, they didn't seem to do any damage to it (Jason was the first to notice that the creature wasn't attacking, just defending itself; he frowned at the observation).
From there, many strange things began to happen. First: A group of people dressed in white (which, frankly, they had never seen before in their lives) fanned out around the League, giving them weapons capable of harming the "creature" and pointing out to them that it was a "ghost", giving information about it.
Second, a pair of colorful scientists stood at the center of all the agents in white, though they seemed to be arguing with each other. One looked murderous, while the other looked... tired, almost guilty.
Third and last, a group of students kept trying to get closer. Jason thought they were suicidal until he heard the girl in purple tell them to leave "Danny" alone. She seemed to be silenced quickly, but the detail stuck in his head.
With a bad feeling, Jason turned to the college kids. A red-haired girl stood in the center of them, holding a chunk of ice? and watching the creature at the center of it all. While the League dealt with the agents in white, Jason decided to listen to them.
"He's my brother," the redhead said as soon as she saw him, "he's not a monster, they broke his core, please, you need to understand"
Jason looked at the creature again, although its body was mostly black, he could see ice covering a crystal in the center, it looked broken, he suspected that was his "core". At the same moment, Bruce finished talking to the men in white and accepted the weapons.
Danny was frightened and panicked. His form changed when his core broke in the middle of a fight, the GIW had shot him, and he didn't know how to retreat to his original form. His words came out only in Ghost speak, and the heroes around him looked ready to kill him, which didn't help his ice control.

So the ring of rage and the crown of fire are sentient
In the episode “Reign Storm” Skulker gives us information on Pariah Dark
Notice the wording
“Control the entities contained within the Crown of Fire and the Ring of Rage”
There is something contained within them, not just a power boost, but in controlling the beings within the crown and ring Pariah gains power
So this implies the crown and ring each have a will of their own, some kind of consciousness. They are sentient (though perhaps not sapient)
So whatever happened to them?
Well, if we recall the end of Reign Storm, Pariah got locked away with just the ring, and Vlad flew off with the crown of Fire
So we have a corrupt Billionaire with many shady business dealings, with a sentient artifact in his possession that probably isn’t very happy about that fact, especially as Vlad attempts to control the crown
Enter one detective John Jones aka Martian Manhunter aka a gosh darn telepath
Now, there are probably legitimate reasons the police might investigate Vlad, but J’onn is probably going to get sidetracked when his mind connects to an ancient sentient artifact that’s very upset

I really really love being a ttrpg GM but I really really don't have the motivation or interest to write my own homebrew campaigns these days but I also really really don't enjoy playing pre-written modules because I have a hard time sticking to what's on the page

I bought a game system agnostic adventure when i was at gencon that was really interesting#and yes that's still a pre-written module but since it's not hard coded to run on any particular set of mechanics#it might be easier for me to play loosey goosey with#I'll see how I'm feeling after i wrap up my mini motw campaign I'm running for some irl friends#being in the motw one-shot group has helped a lot#no one's ever required to run a game-- we all swap around who's gm#so there's no pressure to run a tight operation#but everyone still gets to keep playing their characters instead of throwing them away at the end of each session like in other oneshots

okay in general I don't really get reading fic of media you don't know, like it's whatever but I just personally don't get it, BUT the only fic I've had people comment on of mine remarking that they read it on a recommendation even though they've never seen critical role and loved it is what luminous worlds await and yanno what, I'll give you that one. that's fair.
#that one's also probably the one I'd say operates most like its own independent novel for uh. obvious reasons if you've read it lol#but it's funny cuz like. the type of fic that tends to be read outside its fandom is the one where the serial numbers can be filed off#and like. I've tried it as a thought experiment and it would NOT work.#like straight up you'd have to rework some KEY elements of the lore and mechanics to do it that like. it would be a different story.#like it's very self-contained but the world is intrinsic to the concept#anyway I am at a point with that fic wherein hindsight has brought me to a point where I see some changes I'd make now#(prior I was like. this is not a Perfect piece of writing but it's one that i could not have written any better than i did)#and i maintain that for my writing skill at the time but now I'm like 'okay these are aspects I'd change'#which is kinda fun!
