Food-related Headcanons for Dammon

I like to think Dammon is an alright cook, but he's far better at baking, using a crock pot equivalent devise, or an oven in general. He likes anything with precise measurements, steady temperatures, and predictable outcomes. He follows recipes to the letter, but only once he has experimented with them a few times to perfect them. He prefers any method around food that requires little prep or hovering, so it gives him free time to do other things. Let's be real here, he's a meat and potato kind of guy. His food is rich and hearty. It needs to be given how hard he works.

According to the lore, tieflings require a higher protein diet than other races. But I can still see him making a variety of breads, scones, cookies, cakes, pies, tarts, and biscuits. Along with him roasting a variety of meats, making all kinds of casseroles and pizzas on the daily. (Yes, pizza exists in Faerûn.) Maybe on his day of rest, he on occasion goes into a baking frenzy. All so he can grab something pre-made on the fly later on during the week when he gets peckish. If not, he's roasting or baking something while busy with something else. This guy can multi-task.

If romanced, he more times than not, sends his love off with a treat he's made when they stop by. I can imagine him inviting his love over for a dinner date. He's so thrilled and nervous that he accidentally burns the pizza a little. It's happened before on occasion when he sometimes gets too deeply focused on a piece of armor or a weapon he's working on. However, today, it's who has captured his heart that's distracting him in the best way possible. But at least the pie is salvageable, and he serves it up with a nervous blush and an apology as he cracks open some cold local beer. And you bet he's got some kind of icebox gadget to keep his leftovers and drinks icy cold. He only relaxes when they take their first bite, give a happy moan, and reassure him genuinely it's the best slice they've had in a very long time despite it being a little overdone. The slight overbrowning of the cheese only helps enhance the flavors.

Half Rack of Ribs, Broccoli, Baked Sweet Potato. Corner Grub House. Sulphur Springs, Texas. 10.25.2023.

NOTE TO SELF: I also ate two rolls with honey butter. Because this is a stress-coping meal, 100%. But it hit the spot, even though the ribs on the outside were dry and oversauced, and the green had nearly been steamed out of the broccoli. I should eat more baked sweet pots. And I'll come back here, but manage expectations because this is mostly glorified bar food. But on the right day, with the right amount of stress...

I tried my hand at salmon with crispy skin.

T'was over cooked. I got overwhelmed with wanting the skin crispy, I let it fry for too long on both sides.

Aspagus with bacon and holladaise sauce. I should've added some lemon juic. This was good, but it needed a burst of acid.

Mashed potatoes. I used a potato masher for the first time, I'm never going back to forks.

Here's dinner!

Crockpot roast beef, lightly smashed oven-baked potatoes with skin on, corn on the cob, mixed salad with arugula, almonds and lemon dressing. Everything turned out amazing! Gravy (not pictured) was delicious on the potatoes.

And here is the aftermath:

Oh my gawd, will it ever end???

I have been prepping food and doing dishes ALL DAY. The drying rack is full of dishes again and so is the mini-dishwasher. It's almost as though I've done nothing since 7 hours ago 😩

(The mini-dishwasher has this funky blue light that comes on when you open the door! And the door has a window so you can watch your dishes bathing 😆).

Also dealt with trash and compost (garbage day tomorrow) and cleaned the litter.

This is as good as it's going to get, I'm so done!
